His-Purkinje conduction system pacing combined with atrioventricular node ablation improves quality of life in older patients with persistent atrial fibrillation refractory to multiple ablation procedures

BACKGROUND Recurrence of atrial fibrillation(AF)is common in patients with persistent AF even after multiple ablation procedures.His-Purkinje conduction system pacing(HPCSP)combined with atrioventricular node ablation(AVNA)is effective in managing patients with AF and heart failure.This study aimed to determine whether HPCSP combined with AVNA can improve quality of life and alleviate symptoms in older patients with symptomatic persistent AF refractory to multiple ablation procedures,as well as evaluate the feasibility and safety of this therapy.METHODS Older patients(≥65 years)with symptomatic persistent AF refractory to at least two ablation procedures were treated with combined HPCSP and AVNA.The success rates and complications were recorded.Pacing parameters,European Heart Rhythm Association(EHRA)scores,and Atrial Fibrillation Effect on Quality-of-life(AFEQT)scores obtained perioperatively were compared with those recorded at the 6-month follow-up examination.RESULTS Thirty-one patients were enrolled;of those,only thirty patients were eventually treated with AVNA because one patient developed a complete atrioventricular block following the withdrawal of the His bundle pacing lead.The success rates were 100%for HPCSP(22 cases with His bundle pacing,and 9 cases with left bundle branch pacing)and 93.3%(28/30)for AVNA,respectively.By the 6-month follow-up examination,EHRA scores improved significantly(3.00±0.73 vs.2.44±0.63,P=0.014)and AFEQT scores increased markedly(49.6±20.6 vs.70.9±14.0,P=0.001).No severe complications developed.CONCLUSIONS When used in older patients with symptomatic persistent AF refractory to multiple ablation procedures,HPCSP combined with AVNA significantly alleviated symptoms and improved quality of life during short-term follow-up.This therapy was proved to be safe and effective in this patient population.

Cardioprotective effects of anesthetic preconditioning in rats with ischemia-reperfusion injury: propofol versus isoflurane

Objective: We compare the cardioprotective effects of anesthetic preconditioning by propofol and/or isoflurane in rats with ischemia-reperfusion injury. Methods: Male adult Wistar rats were subjected to 60 min of anterior descending coronary artery occlusion followed by 120 min of reperfusion. Before the long ischemia, anesthetics were administered twice for 10 min followed by 5 min washout. Isoflurane was inhaled at 1 MAC (0.016) in I group, whereas propofol was inhaled intravenously at 37.5 mg/(kg·h) in P group. A combination of isoflurane and propofol was administered simultaneously in I+P group. Results: In control (without anesthetic preconditioning, C group), remarkable myocardial infarction and apoptosis accompanied by an increased level of cardiac troponin T were noted 120 min after ischemia-reperfusion. As compared to those of control group, I and P groups had comparable cardioprotection. In addition, I+P group shares with I and P groups the comparable cardioprotective effects in terms of myocardial infarction and cardiac troponin T elevation. Conclusion: A combination of isoflurane and propofol produced no ad-ditional cardioprotection.

Evolution of inclusions in vacuum induction melting of superalloys containing 70%return material

The variation law of inclusions type and size in the vacuum induction melting process and ingot of Ni-based superalloy containing 70%return material was studied by industrial test sampling,and the mechanism of inclusions formation was analyzed with thermodynamic calculations.The results show that there are mainly two types of composite inclusions in the vacuum induction melting of Ni-based superalloys,which are nitride-and oxide-based composite inclusions,like Al_(2)O_(3)-SiO_(2)-Cr_(2)O_(3),TiN-(Mo,Nb)C,etc.The type and proportion of inclusions from the center to the edge of the vacuum induction ingot did not change significantly.The number density of inclusions from the center to the edge of the ingot varied less,and the size of inclusions became smaller from the center to the edge.In addition,thermodynamic calculations show that oxides(M_(2)O_(3))are present in the liquid phase and mainly contain Al,Ti,Cr,Fe and O elements.The nitride consists mainly of Ti and N and contains small amounts of Cr,C,Nb,and Mo elements.This is consistent with the results of industrial tests.As the temperature decreases,the precipitation phases such as M_(2)O_(3),MN,γ,MC,δ,γ'andμphases are gradually precipitated,where oxides and nitrides are present in the liquid phase.The contents of O and N elements are the main influencing factors for the inclusions content and precipitation temperature;when the nitrogen content is reduced to below 0.0015%,it can make MN precipitate below the liquid-phase line.

Accelerating lithium-sulfur battery reaction kinetics and inducing 3D deposition of li2S using interactions between Fe3Se4 and lithium polysulfides

Although lithium-sulfur batteries（LSBs） exhibit high theoretical energy density,their practical application is hindered by poor conductivity of the sulfur cathode,the shuttle effect,and the irreversible deposition of li2S.To address these issues,a novel composite,using electrospinning technology,consisting of Fe3Se4and porous nitrogen-doped carbon nanofibers was designed for the interlayer of LSBs.The porous carbon nanofiber structure facilitates the transport of ions and electrons,while the Fe3Se4material adsorbs lithium polysulfides（liPSs） and accelerates its catalytic conversion process.Furthermore,the Fe3Se4material interacts with soluble liPSs to generate a new polysulfide intermediate,lixFeSycomplex,which changes the electrochemical reaction pathway and facilitates the three-dimensional deposition of li2S,enhancing the reversibility of LSBs.The designed LSB demonstrates a high specific capacity of1529.6 mA h g-1in the first cycle at 0.2 C.The rate performance is also excellent,maintaining an ultra-high specific capacity of 779.7 mA h g-1at a high rate of 8 C.This investigation explores the mechanism of the interaction between the interlayer and liPSs,and provides a new strategy to regulate the reaction kinetics and li2S deposition in LSBs.

A high li-ion diffusion kinetics in multidimensional and compact-structured electrodes via vacuum filtration casting

Manufacturing process,diffusion co-efficient and areal capacity are the three main criteria for regulating thick electrodes for lithium-ion batteries(liBs).However,simultaneously regulating these criteria for liBs is desirable but remains a significant challenge.In this work,niobium pentoxide(Nb_(2)O_(5))anode and lithium iron phosphate(liFePO_(4))cathode materials were chosen as the model materials and demonstrate that these three parameters can be simultaneously modulated by incorporation of micro-carbon fibers(MCF)and carbon nanotubes(CNT)with both Nb_(2)O_(5) and LFP via vacuum filtration approach.Both as-prepared MNC-20 anode and MLC-20 cathode achieves high reversible areal capacity of≈5.4 m A h cm^(-2)@0.1 C and outstanding li-ion diffusion coefficients of≈10~(-8)cm~2 s~(-1)in the half-cell configuration.The assembled MNC-20‖MLC-20 full cell liB delivers maximum energy and power densities of244.04 W h kg^(-1)and 108.86 W kg^(-1),respectively.The excellent electrochemical properties of the asprepared thick electrodes can be attributed to the highly conductive,mechanical compactness and multidimensional mutual effects of the MCF,CNT and active materials that facilitates rapid li-ion diffusion kinetics.Furthermore,electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(EIS),symmetric cells analysis,and insitu Raman techniques clearly validates the enhanced li-ion diffusion kinetics in the present architecture.

Photosynthetic response dynamics in the invasive species Tithonia diversifolia and two co-occurring native shrub species under fluctuating light conditions

To determine the invasiveness of invasive plants,many studies have compared photosynthetic traits or strategies between invasive and native species.However,few studies have compared the photosynthetic dynamics between invasive and native species during light fluctuations.We compared photosynthetic induction,relaxation dynamics and leaf traits between the invasive species,Tithonia diversifolia and two native species,Clerodendrum bungei and Blumea balsamifera,in full-sun and shady habitats.The photosynthetic dynamics and leaf traits differed among species.T.diversifolia showed a slower induction speed and stomatal opening response but had higher average intrinsic water-use efficiency than the two native species in full-sun habitats.Thus,the slow induction response may be attributed to the longer stomatal length in T.diversifolia.Habitat had a significant effect on photosynthetic dynamics in T.diversifolia and B.balsamifera but not in C.bungei.In shady habitat,T.diversifolia had a faster photosynthetic induction response than in full-sun habitat,leading to a higher average stomatal conductance during photosynthetic induction in T.diversifolia than in the two native species.In contrast,B.balsamifera had a larger stomatal length and slower photosynthetic induction and relaxation response in shady habitat than in full-sun habitat,resulting in higher carbon gain during photosynthetic relaxation.Nevertheless,in both habitats,T.diversifolia had an overall higher carbon gain during light fluctuations than the two native species.Our results indicated that T.diversifolia can adopt more effective response strategies under fluctuating light environments to maximize carbon gain,which may contribute to its successful invasion.

Polyethylene oxide(PEO)-based solid polymer electrolytes(SPEs)with good electrochemical stability and excellent li salt solubility are considered as one of the most promising SPEs for solid-state lithium metal batteries(SSLMBs).However,PEO-based SPEs suffer from low ionic conductivity at room temperature and high interfacial resistance with the electrodes due to poor interfacial contact,seriously hindering their practical applications.As an emerging technology,in-situ polymerization process has been widely used in PEO-based SPEs because it can effectively increase li-ion transport at the interface and improve the interfacial contact between the electrolyte and electrodes.Herein,we review recent advances in design and fabrication of in-situ polymerized PEO-based SPEs to realize enhanced performance in LMBs.The merits and current challenges of various SPEs,as well as their stabilizing strategies are presented.Furthermore,various in-situ polymerization methods(such as free radical polymerization,cationic polymerization,anionic polymerization)for the preparation of PEO-based SPEs are summarized.In addition,the application of in-situ polymerization technology in PEO-based SPEs for adjustment of the functional units and addition of different functional filler materials was systematically discussed to explore the design concepts,methods and working mechanisms.Finally,the challenges and future prospects of in-situ polymerized PEO-based SPEs for SSLMBs are also proposed.

BACKGROUND Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is a global popular malignant tumor,which is difficult to cure,and the current treatment is limited.AIM To analyze the impacts of stress granule(SG)genes on overall survival(OS),survival time,and prognosis in HCC.METHODS The combined The Cancer Genome Atlas-liver Hepatocellular Carcinoma(TCGA-liHC),GSE25097,and GSE36376 datasets were utilized to obtain genetic and clinical information.Optimal hub gene numbers and corresponding coefficients were determined using the Least absolute shrinkage and selection operator model approach,and genes for constructing risk scores and corresponding correlation coefficients were calculated according to multivariate Cox regression,respectively.The prognostic model’s receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curve was produced and plotted utilizing the time ROC software package.Nomogram models were constructed to predict the outcomes at 1,3,and 5-year OS prognostications with good prediction accuracy.RESULTS We identified seven SG genes(DDX1,DKC1,BICC1,HNRNPUL1,CNOT6,DYRK3,CCDC124)having a prognostic significance and developed a risk score model.The findings of Kaplan-Meier analysis indicated that the group with a high risk exhibited significantly reduced OS in comparison with those of the low-risk group(P<0.001).The nomogram model’s findings indicate a significant enhancement in the accuracy of OS prediction for individuals with HCC in the TCGA-HCC cohort.Gene Ontology and Gene Set Enrichment Analysis suggested that these SGs might be involved in the cell cycle,RNA editing,and other biological processes.CONCLUSION Based on the impact of SG genes on HCC prognosis,in the future,it will be used as a biomarker as well as a unique therapeutic target for the identification and treatment of HCC.

OSMR is a potential driver of inflammation in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is a neurodegenerative disease,and the molecular mechanism underlying its pathology remains poorly understood.However,inflammation is known to play an important role in the development of this condition.To identify driver genes that affect the inflammatory response in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis,as well as potential treatment targets,it is crucial to analyze brain tissue samples from patients with both sporadic amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and C9orf72-related amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.Therefore,in this study we used a network-driven gene analysis tool,NetBID2.0,which is based on SJARACNe,a scalable algorithm for the reconstruction of accurate cellular networks,to experimentally analyze sequencing data from patients with sporadic amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.The results showed that the OSMR gene is pathogenic in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and participates in the progression of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis by mediating the neuroinflammatory response.Furthermore,there were differences in OSMR activity and expression between patients with sporadic amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and those with C9orf72-related amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.These findings suggest that OSMR may be a diagnostic and prognostic marker for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

Experimental Study on Vortex-Induced Vibration of Rough Risers with Coupling Interference Effect Under Side-by-Side Arrangement

A vortex-induced vibration(VIV)experiment of rough risers with coupling interference effect under a side-by-side arrangement was carried out in a wave-current combined flume.The roughness of the riser was characterized by arranging different specifications of surface attachments on the surface of the riser.Rough risers with three different roughnesses were arranged side by side with smooth risers to explore the VIV response of the riser under the combined action of roughness and interference effect,and to reveal the coupling mechanism between roughness and interference effect.The experimental results show that,compared with that of a smooth riser,the VIV of a rough riser under the coupling interference effect has a wider"lock-in"region,and the displacement decreases more significantly at a high reduced velocity,which is more likely to excite higher-order modes and frequency responses.In addition,the displacement response and frequency response of the smooth riser are not significantly affected by wake interference from the rough riser,which is caused by the decrease of the wake region due to the delay of the boundary layer separation point of the rough riser.
