The effects of C/N ratio of a nitrate-containing wastewater on nitrate removal performed by autohydrogenotrophic bacteria as well as on the morphological parameters of floc such as floc morphology, floc number distribution, mean particle size（MPS）, aspect ratio and transparency were examined in this study. The results showed that the nitrate reduction rate increased with increasing C/N ratio from 0.5 to 10 and that the nitrogen removal of up to 95% was found at the C/N ratios of higher than 5（between 0.5–10）. Besides, high C/N ratio values reflected a corresponding high nitrite accumulation after 12-hr operation, and a fast decreasing rate of nitrite in the rest of operational time. The final p H values increased with the C/N ratio increasing from 0.5 to 2.5, but decreased with the C/N ratio increasing from2.5 to 10. There were no significant changes in floc morphology with the MPSs ranging from35 to 40 μm. Small and medium-sized flocs were dominant in the sludge suspension, and the number of flocs increased with the increasing C/N ratios. Furthermore, the highest apparent frequency of 10% was observed at aspect ratios of 0.5 and 0.6, while the transparency of flocs changed from 0.1 to 0.7.

To determine the invasiveness of invasive plants,many studies have compared photosynthetic traits or strategies between invasive and native ***,few studies have compared the photosynthetic dynamics between invasive and native species during light *** compared photosynthetic induction,relaxation dynamics and leaf traits between the invasive species,Tithonia diversifolia and two native species,Clerodendrum bungei and Blumea balsamifera,in full-sun and shady *** photosynthetic dynamics and leaf traits differed among *** showed a slower induction speed and stomatal opening response but had higher average intrinsic water-use efficiency than the two native species in full-sun ***,the slow induction response may be attributed to the longer stomatal length in *** had a significant effect on photosynthetic dynamics in *** and *** but not in *** shady habitat,*** had a faster photosynthetic induction response than in full-sun habitat,leading to a higher average stomatal conductance during photosynthetic induction in *** than in the two native *** contrast,*** had a larger stomatal length and slower photosynthetic induction and relaxation response in shady habitat than in full-sun habitat,resulting in higher carbon gain during photosynthetic ***,in both habitats,*** had an overall higher carbon gain during light fluctuations than the two native *** results indicated that *** can adopt more effective response strategies under fluctuating light environments to maximize carbon gain,which may contribute to its successful invasion.

Ecosystem services(ESs)refer to the continuous provisioning of ecosystem goods and services that benefit human *** recent decades,rapid urbanization has exerted significant pressure on coastal ecosystems,resulting in biodiversity and habitat loss,environmental pollution,and the depletion of natural *** response to these environmental challenges,the Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs)were *** the pressing need to address these issues,understanding the changes in ESs under the SDGs is crucial for formulating specific ecological *** this study,we first analyzed land use and cover change in the Zhejiang coasts of China during 2000–***,we investigated the spatiotemporal configuration of ESs by integrating carbon storage(CS),soil retention(SR),habitat quality(HQ)and water yield(WY)using the Integrated Valuation of Ecosystem Services and Tradeoffs(InVEST)*** driving mechanisms of ESs,which varied by space and time,were also explored using the Geo-detector *** results revealed that,over the past two decades:1)the Zhejiang coasts have experienced a significant increase of 2783.72 km^(2) in built-up land areas and a continuous decrease in farmland areas due to rapid urbanization;2)owing to higher precipitation,extensive vegetation cover,and reduced anthropogenic disturbances,forests emerge as a crucial land use type for maintaining ecosystem services such as HQ,CS,WY,and SR;3)ESs have generally declined across the entire Zhejiang coasts,with a significant decrease observed in the northern areas and an increase in the southern areas spatially;4)the expansion of built-up land areas emerged as the primary factor affecting ecosystem services,while the vegetation factor has been increasingly significant and is expected to become predominant in the near *** study provides insights of understanding of ecosystem service theory and emphasizing the importance of preserving biodiversity for long-term sustainable development

The hybrid manifold micro-pin-fin(MMPF)heat sink combined nozzle jets is an option for large-scale integrated circuits(LSI).The demond for uniform and ultra-high heat flux removal by MMPF heat sink has not been adequately *** work aims to solve the problem of fluid *** proposed basic tiling topologies,including square,regular hexagon,30°rhombus,and 60°rhombus topologies,provide different organized fluid flows and heat transfer *** present study focuses on comparing these topologies according to independent porous medium parameters,such as nozzle pore size D_(Z),flow pore size D_(X,Y),and porosityε.The results show that the square topology achieves the smallest total thermal resistance R_(tot)value of0.0975×10^(-4)K m^2/W,while the hexagon topology achieved the highest value of COP/?T,which was 2033.9 K^(-1).According to the sensitivity analysis results,the optimal total thermal resistance can be obtained by balancing the influences of nozzle pore size,flow pore size,and *** optimal pressure drop can be obtained by maximizing the porosity.

Testing the first law of black hole mechanics with gravitational waves

The successful observation of gravitational waves has provided humanity with an additional method to explore the universe,particularly black *** this study,we utilize data from LIGO and Virgo gravitational wave observations to test the first law of black hole mechanics,employing two different *** consider the secondary compact object as a perturbation to the primary black hole before the merger,and the remnant black hole as a stationary black hole after the *** the pre-merger and post-merger analysis,our results demonstrate consistency with the first law,with an error level of approximate 25%at a68%credibility level for *** the full inspiral-merger-ringdown analysis,our results show consistency with the first law of black hole mechanics,with an error level of about 6%at a 68%credibility level and 10%at a 95%credibility level for ***,we observe that the higher the mass ratio of the gravitational wave source,the more consistent our results are with the first law of black hole ***,our study sheds light on the nature of compact binary coalescence and their implications for black hole mechanics.

Cloud base height(CBH) is a crucial parameter for cloud radiative effect estimates, climate change simulations, and aviation guidance. However, due to the limited information on cloud vertical structures included in passive satellite radiometer observations, few operational satellite CBH products are currently available. This study presents a new method for retrieving CBH from satellite radiometers. The method first uses the combined measurements of satellite radiometers and ground-based cloud radars to develop a lookup table(LUT) of effective cloud water content(ECWC), representing the vertically varying cloud water content. This LUT allows for the conversion of cloud water path to cloud geometric thickness(CGT), enabling the estimation of CBH as the difference between cloud top height and CGT. Detailed comparative analysis of CBH estimates from the state-of-the-art ECWC LUT are conducted against four ground-based millimeter-wave cloud radar(MMCR) measurements, and results show that the mean bias(correlation coefficient) is0.18±1.79 km(0.73), which is lower(higher) than 0.23±2.11 km(0.67) as derived from the combined measurements of satellite radiometers and satellite radar-lidar(i.e., Cloud Sat and CALIPSO). Furthermore, the percentages of the CBH biases within 250 m increase by 5% to 10%, which varies by location. This indicates that the CBH estimates from our algorithm are more consistent with ground-based MMCR measurements. Therefore, this algorithm shows great potential for further improvement of the CBH retrievals as ground-based MMCR are being increasingly included in global surface meteorological observing networks, and the improved CBH retrievals will contribute to better cloud radiative effect estimates.

Cooked rice and the vegetables like lettuce are common kitchen waste,which are carbonaceous materials and have the potential as feedstock for the production of activated *** is similar to hydrothermal treatment(HTC),which might impact the subsequent activation of kitchen *** this study,the HTC of lettuce,rice,or their mixture and the activation of the resulting hydrochars were *** results indicated that cross-polymerization between the N-containing organics from lettuce and the sugar derivatives from rice took place in their co-HTC,which significantly increased the hydrochar *** of the hydrochar from the coHTC generated the AC with a yield of 2 times that from direct activation of mixed lettuce/***,the coHTC facilitated aromatization,reducing reactivity with K2C2O4in activation and producing the AC with main micropores and low specific surface *** of the hydrochar from HTC of rice followed the above trend,while that from lettuce was the *** organics in lettuce were thermally unstable and could not undergo sufficient *** activation of hydrochar from HTC of lettuce thus generated the AC with the lowest yield,but the highest specific surface area(1684.9 m2/g),abundant mesopores,and superior capability for adsorption of ***,the environmental impacts and energy consumption for the production of AC from the hydrochar of lettuce were higher than that from hydrochar of co-HTC.

IHMP:an improved hierarchical motion planner for mobile manipulator in static environment

Mobile manipulators are used in a variety of fields because of their flexibility and *** path planning capability of the mobile manipulator is one of the important indicators to evaluate the performance of the manipulator,but it is greatly challenged in the face of maps with narrow *** address the problem,an improved hierarchical motion planner(IHMP)is proposed,which consists of a two-dimensional(2D)path planner for the mobile base,and a three-dimensional(3D)trajectory planner for the on-board ***,a hybrid sampling strategy is proposed,which can reduce invalid nodes of the generated probabilistic *** test is used to locate the narrow channel areas,and a Gaussian sampler is deployed in these areas and the ***,a random sampler is deployed in the rest *** planner for on-board manipulator is to generate a collision-free and safe trajectory in the narrow channel with collaboration of the 2D path *** experimental results show that IHMP is effective for mobile manipulator motion planning in complex static environments,especially in narrow channel.
