Effectiveness of Music-Based Therapeutic Intervention on People with Dementia: A Rapid Review

Background: Dementia is a condition with progressive cognitive dysfunction and manifestation of both behavioral and psychosocial symptoms. Non-pharmacological measures such as music therapy are gaining importance since efficacy and safety of people with dementia have been questionable for pharmacological measures. Patient’s response to music is persistent even in the later stage of dementia. Aim: This rapid review aims to identify, analyze, evaluate, and summarize the best available evidence on the effectiveness of music-based therapeutic interventions among people with dementia. Method: CINAHL Cochrane Library, internet websites of rapid review producers, and reference lists were searched to identify articles for inclusion. Two reviewers independently screened the literature search results. Effectiveness, music-based therapeutic intervention, dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, systematic review and systematic review with meta-analysis terms were used to abstract data from included studies. Main Findings: 11 sRs and sRs with meta-analysis were reviewed which revealed positive effect of music therapy on five major outcomes with 9 studies effect on behavioral outcome, 6 studies with positive effect on psychosocial outcome reducing anxiety, 6 with improved cognition, 1 study revealed with improved quality of life and 1 study revealed effect on physiological outcomes. Conclusion: Music therapy has positive effect on treatment of dementia but further studies with larger sample size and specified to single intervention should be conducted to provide generalisable and precise results on this topic.

Integrated Analysis of Water Quality in Artificial Fishponds Using WQI and GIs in south-East sierra Leone

Artificial fishponds play a pivotal role in global aquaculture, serving as a source of livelihood and nourishment for many communities. Ensuring the sustained health and productivity of Fishes in these environments relies heavily on water quality management. This assessment was done to determine the water quality of ten artificial fishponds in the south-eastern part of sierra Leone using twelve physicochemical factors (pH, BOD, EC, TDs, turbidity, COD, Fesup>2+sup>, Mgsup>2+sup>, Casup>2+sup>, NHsub>3sub>, , and alkalinity) to find out the Water Quality Index (WQI) and spatial distribution of respective parameters. The assessment of artificial fishponds using WQI and Inverse Distant Weighting (IDW) integration represents a relatively underexplored area within the domain of environmental water resources. The WQI was determined using the “Weighted Arithmetic Water Quality Index’’ method. The results of WQI in the study area range from 65.05 to 147.26. several locations have water quality deemed unsuitable for consumption, while others range from good to very poor. It is essential to address and improve water quality in locations categorized as unsuitable for consumption and very poor to ensure safe and healthy water sources. It was also clear from the calculation that the smaller the mean concentration value of the pH as compared to the ideal value (7), the smaller the WQI value and the better the water quality. To keep the artificial fishpond water in good condition, mass domestic use should be controlled, and draining of surrounding organic matter should be stopped in ponds Bo_001, Kenema_001, and Kenema_002.

Owing to the high demand, swertia chirayita populations in the wild are being depleted beyond its regeneration capacity. s. chirayita is one of the most valuable medicinal plants of Nepal in trade. Present Molecular investigation was undertaken to understand the level of genetic diversity in five s. chirayita populations of Nepal using Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)-based Random amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) technique. Thirty four accessions of s. chirayita along with six outlier accessions were analyzed using 26 arbitrary primers. Of the total 285 amplified bands scored for s. chirayita, 263 bands (92.28%) were polymorphic. Two major clusters were revealed in the phenogram generated from cluster analysis using NTsYs-PC software (version 2.21i) for the geographic populations under study. Principal Coordinate Analysis further substantiated the results of the phenograms. swertia chirayita populations from sankhuwasabha and Terathum were found to be genetically closest (68%, similar) whilst Nagarjun and Terathum were found to be most distant (33%, similar).The high genetic polymorphism reflected in s. chirayita populations indicates the good survival potentiality and adaptability in changing environmental scenario. The results thus produced might be helpful to plant breeders for elite cultivar development. The RAPD-PCR technique is found to be the rapid and effective tool for genetic diversity assessment in s. chirayita populations and generated insights for the formulation of conservation strategy of this vulnerable species together with its phytochemical distinctiveness.

The identification of jets originating from quarks and gluons,often referred to as quark/gluon tagging,plays an important role in various analyses performed at the Large Hadron Collider,as standard Model measurements and searches for new particles decaying to quarks often rely on suppressing a large gluon-induced *** paper describes the measurement of the efficiencies of quark/gluon taggers developed within the ATLAs Collaboration,using √s=13 TeV proton–proton collision data with an integrated luminosity of 140 fb^(-1) collected by the ATLAs *** taggers with high performances in rejecting jets from gluon over jets from quarks are studied:one tagger is based on requirements on the number of inner-detector tracks associated with the jet,and the other combines several jet substructure observables using a boosted decision tree.A method is established to determine the quark/gluon fraction in data,by using quark/gluon-enriched subsamples defined by the jet *** in tagging efficiency between data and simulation are provided for jets with transverse momentum between 500 GeV and 2 TeV and for multiple tagger working points.

successful Treatment of a Child with Ruptured Arteriovenous Malformation Using Onyx Embolization: A Case Report

Introduction: Arteriovenous Malformations (AVMs) arising deep in the basal ganglia and thalamus encompass a very small fraction of total cerebral AVMs and are rarely encountered in neurosurgery. The rate of rupture of these AVMs is very uncommon making our case more thought-provoking. Case presentation: We present a case of 8-year-old boy with 3 days’ history of an intermittent headache with nausea and vomiting. Computer tomographic angiography (CTA) confirmed right basal ganglia and dorsal thalamic hematoma with numerous tortuous blood vessels around the hematoma. Conclusion: We successfully treated this child with ruptured deep seated cerebral AVMs using Onyx embolization with no further neurological deficits.

The Prevalence and Clinical Manifestations of Co-Infection in Pediatric Infectious Mononucleosis: A single-Centered, Retrospective study

Background: Recent studies indicate that the incidence of infectious mononucleosis (IM) has increased in China. Furthermore, it has been shown that children diagnosed with IM are prone to acquiring other pathogens. However, there is limited research on the prevalence of these co-infections in children with IM. Thus, we conducted this study to determine the prevalence of coinfections and common pathogens, as well as to compare clinical manifestations in children with and without coinfections. Methods: This retrospective observational study was conducted at the Department of Pediatrics Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University, Wuhan, China, with data from January 2018 to January 2023. Data, including demographics, symptoms, lab results, and complications, were collected from the hospital’s electronic database and analyzed. The statistical analysis included descriptive statistics, independent samples t-tests and Mann-Whitney tests to compare the means of continuous variables. statistical significance was determined by p-values less than 0.05. Results: The study involved 216 participants diagnosed with IM, predominantly males (61.6%) aged 0 - 4 years (50.9%). Coinfection was detected in 39.8% of children, with multiple pathogens present in 33.72% of these cases. Among coinfection cases, 40% occurred in children under 5 years old, and females made up 54.2% of these cases. Mycoplasma pneumoniae (MP) was the most prevalent pathogen, accounting for 18.1% of cases. Influenza B (IFB) and Influenza A (IFA) viruses were found in 16.7% and 13.9% of participants, respectively, indicating a notable occurrence of respiratory pathogen coinfections. Male gender, fever, tonsillopharyngitis, lower HGB levels, higher EsR, CRP, and AsT levels were correlated with coinfections. Conclusion: In summary, the study revealed a high prevalence of coinfections among children diagnosed with IM, particularly involving Mycoplasma pneumoniae and influenza viruses. 目的分析直肠少见占位性病变的临床资料,探讨诊治经验.方法回顾性分析2014年1月至2016年6月期间收治的14例直肠少见占位性疾病患者的临床资料,分析临床诊治过程.结果 14例患者中直肠胃肠间质瘤4例、直肠神经内分泌肿瘤3例、直肠子宫内膜异位症2例、直肠髓外浆细胞瘤、直肠深在性囊性结肠炎、直肠血管瘤、直肠尖锐湿疣及梅毒各1例.所有患者均行结肠镜检查,其中3例行超声内镜,9例患者行盆腔CT检查,4例患者行盆腔或直肠MRI检查.2例行根治术,3例行肠部分切除术,6例行经肛门局部切除术,3例行活检术.结论一些直肠占位性病变临床少见,误诊率高,提高对此类疾病诊治水平十分必要.
