Analysis of Friction and Heat Transfer Characteristics of Tubes with Trapezoidal Cut Twisted Tape Inserts

The thermo-hydraulic properties of circular tubes with a twisted tape inside(used accordingly to induce turbulence and enhance heat transfer through the tube wall)are described for Reynolds Numbers ranging from 830 to *** twisted with the three distinct twist ratios are considered,namely,6,4.4 and *** is used as the working fluid in several *** the sake of comparison,the standard tube with no insert is also *** is shown that in the presence of the twisted tape,the‘frictional factor’,‘Nusselt Number’and the‘thermal performance factor’are much higher than those obtained for the plain ***,the tapes having the lowest twist ratio,i.e.,3,are more effective than the others in terms of heat transfer ***‘thermal performance factor’is greater than one for all the twisted tapes used in the experiments,which confirms the enhanced performances of the heat exchanger and the related savings in terms of total energy.

The thermal behavior of pipes with a twisted tape inside(used to enhance heat transfer through the tube wall)is studied in the laminar flow *** is used as the work fluid with the corresponding Reynolds Number spanning the interval 200–*** is found that in such conditions the‘Nusselt Number’(Nu)gradually increases with reducing the tape twist ratio,whereas the friction factor is detrimentally affected by the presence of the tape(as witnessed by the comparison with the companion case where a plain tube is considered).In particular,it is shown that the heat transfer efficiency can be improved by nearly 69%if tape inserts with a relatively low twist ratio are *** the basis of these findings,it is concluded that loose fit tape inserts are superior to tight fit tapes in terms of heat transfer and ease of replacement.

Effect of Inclined Tension Crack on Rock Slope Stability by SSR Technique

The tension cracks and joints in rock or soil slopes affect their failure *** of rock or soil slope failure is one of the most challenging tasks in the earth *** actual slopes consist of inhomogeneous materials,complex morphology,and erratic *** studies concerning the failure of rock slopes primarily focused on determining Factor of Safety(FoS)and Critical Slip Surface(CSS).In this article,the effect of inclined tension crack on a rock slope failure is studied numerically with Shear Strength Reduction Factor(SRF)*** inclined Tension Crack(TC)inﬂuences the magnitude and location of the rock slope’s Critical Shear Strength Reduction Factor(CSRF).Certainly,inclined cracks are more prone to cause the failure of the slope than the vertical ***,all tension cracks do not lead to failure of the slope *** effect of the crest distance of the tension crack is also *** numerical results do not show any signiﬁcant change in the magnitude of CSRF unless the tip of the TC is very near to the crest of the *** is also replaced with a joint,and the results differ from the corresponding *** results are discussed regarding shear stress and Critical Slip Surface(CSS).

N-doped mesoporous alumina for adsorption of carbon dioxide

N-doped mesoporous alumina has been synthesized using chitosan as the biopolymer template. The adsorbent has been thoroughly investigated for the adsorption of Co2 from a simulated flue gas stream （15% Co2 balanced with N2） and compared with commercially available mesoporous alumina procured from SASoL, Germany. Co2 adsorption was studied under different conditions of pre- treatment and adsorption temperature, inlet Co2 concentration and in the presence of oxygen and moisture. The adsorption capacity was determined to be 29.4 nag Co2/g of adsorbent at 55℃. This value was observed to be 4 times higher in comparison to that of commercial mesoporous alumina at a temperature of 55℃. Basicity of alumina surface coupled with the presence of nitrogen in template in synthesized sample is responsible for this enhanced Co2 adsorption. Adsorption capacity for Co2 was retained in the presence of oxygen; however moisture had a deteriorating effect on the adsorption capacity reducing it to nearly half the value.
