Hydro-alcoholic extract of the Indian traditional crude drug ’karanja’,the pods of Pongamia pinnata reduced the blood sugar level in Wistar albino ***-guided fractionation of the extract furnished a difuranoflavonol,pongamiaflavonol,which elicited prominent hypoglycemic effects in normal and streptozotocin-induced hyperglycemic rats.

Objective:To investigate the interaction of p53 with docetaxel and berberine and their anticancer activities against oral squamous cell ***:The interaction between p53 with docetaxel and berberine was investigated and their mechanisms of action against oral squamous cell carcinoma were *** studies were performed to determine any toxic impact of the drugs on the vital organs of tested ***:In silico results revealed the molecular interaction of docetaxel and berberine with p53 and the molecules were found to be potential p53 *** and berberine inhibited the proliferation of cancer cells in a concentration-dependent *** cytometry analysis revealed that docetaxel and berberine at IC50 concentrations upregulated the expression of p53 in oral squamous cell carcinoma cells,thus triggering apoptotic cell *** addition,no toxicity was observed in the liver and kidney tissues of mice after docetaxel and berberine ***:Docetaxel and berberine significantly suppressed the proliferation of oral cancer cells by activating p53 expression and causing apoptotic cell *** compounds can be potential agents for the treatment of oral cancer,with little to no toxicity at the tissue level.

Effect of shifting cultivation on soil physical and chemical properties in Bandarban hill district, Bangladesh

This study reports the effects of shifting cultivation at slashing stage on soil physicochemical properties at Bandarban Sadar Upazila in Chittagong Hill Tracts of Bangladesh. At this initial stage of shifting cultivation no general trend was found for moisture content, maximum water holding capacity, field capacity, dry and moist bulk density, parti- cle density for some chemical properties between shifting cultivated land and forest having similar soil texture. Organic matter was significantly 0.05） lower in 1-year and 3-year shifting cultivated lands and higher in 2-year shifting cultivation than in adjacent natural forest. Significant differences were also found for total N, exchangeable Ca, Mg and K and in CEC as well as for available P. Slashed area showed higher soil pH. Deterioration in land quality starts from burning of slashing materials and continues through subsequent stages of shifting cultivation.

BACKGrOUND: To evaluate the outcome of cardiopulmonary resuscitation(CPr) in out-ofhospital cardiac arrests(OHCA) in India and factors infl uencing the ***: The outcome and related factors like demographics, aspects of the OHCA event, return of spontaneous circulation(rOSC) and survival to discharge, among the 80 adult patients presenting to emergency department experiencing OHCA considered for resuscitation between January 2014 to April 2015, were analyzed, according to the guidelines of the Utstein consensus ***: The survival rate to hospital admission was 32.5%, the survival rate to hospital discharge was 8.8% and with good cerebral performance category(CPC1) neurological status was 3.8%. Majority of OHCA was seen in elderly individuals between 51 to 60 years, predominately in males. Majority of OHCA were witnessed arrests(56.5%) with 1.3% bystander CPr rate, 92.5% arrests occurred at home, 96% presented with initial non-shockable rhythm and 92.5% with presumed cardiac etiology but survival was better in those who experienced OHCA at public place, in witnessed arrests, in patients who had shockable presenting rhythm and in those where CPr duration was ≤20 ***: Witnessed arrests, early initiation of CPr by bystanders, CPr duration ≤20 minutes, initial presenting shockable rhythm, OHCA with non-cardiac etiology are associated with a good outcome. To improve the outcome of CPr and the low survival rates after an OHCA event in India, focused strategies should be designed to set up an emergency medical system(EMS), to boost the rates of bystander CPr and education of the lay public in basic CPr.

Objective:To evaluate in vitro antioxidant and antibacterial activity of methanolic extract of Arnebia benthamii（***） whole ***:Plasmid damage was analyzed by agarose gell *** thymus DNA was monitored by TBArS ***, reducing power and lipid peroxidation was evaluated by using standard *** assay was monitored by disc diffusion ***:DPPH radical scavenging and hydroxyl radical scavenging potential of the plant revealed that the extract to be active radical ***(Fe3+-Fe2+) power and lipid peroxidation inhibition efficiency（TBArS assay） of the extract was also evaluated and the extract showed promising activity in preventing lipid peroxidation and might prevent oxidative damages to *** extract offered a significant protection against plasmid and calf thymus UNA damage induced by hydroxyl radicals. The extract was also evaluated on different bacterial strains and the maximum antibacterial activity was exhibited against Escherichia coli（***） when compared with standard drug. Conclusions:These findings demonstrate that the methanol extract of *** has excellent anti-oxidant activities and could be considered as a potential source of lead molecules for pharmaceutical industries.

Etiology and Management of Small Bowel Obstruction with Special reference to role of Laparoscopy—A Single Centre Experience

Background: Small bowel obstruction (SBO) is the commonly diagnosed disease in the emergency department. The diagnosis and management of small bowel obstruction varies among institutions. The role of laparoscopy in the management of small bowel obstruction is debatable. Aim: To study the profile, clinical features and management options of patients of small bowel obstruction with special emphasis on role of laparoscopy. Material and Methods: 51 consecutive patients with documented small bowel obstruction admitted in our department were studied from June 2016 to December 2018. All the patients above 12 years of age with small bowel obstruction were included. The diagnosis of small bowel obstruction (SBO) was made in these cases by detailed history, clinical examination and investigations. All these patients were received and adequately resuscitated. Non-operative (conservative) treatment was confirmed to those who met the standard parameters for such treatment and early surgical treatment was carried out whenever indicated. The operative procedure done was laparoscopy or open depending on the clinical features and condition of patient. results: In our study, 51 patients mean age was 44.7 years with 27 Males and 24 females. 28 (54.9%) patients of our study presented with continuous abdominal pain followed by colicky pain in 23 (45.1%) patients. 34 (66.7%) patients on admission gave history of effortless vomiting. Distension of abdomen was present in 30 (58.8%) patients and constipation was present in 40 (78.4%) of our studied patients. On CT scan interloop fluid was present in 23 (45.1%) patients while transition point was present in 31 (60.8%) patients. Adhesion obstruction was found to be most common cause of obstruction 27 (52.9%) patients, followed by malignancy in 8 (15.7). 25 (49.0%) patients were managed conservatively and 26 (51%) were operated. 11 (21.6%) patients underwent laparoscopic adhesiolysis and 15 (29.4%) underwent exploratory laparotomy. remarkable progress has been made during recent years on the development of gravitational wave detectors. The review describes the present status and future prospectus of the gravitational wave astronomy. The main theme is to review the prominent long baseline detectors in operation around the world and proposed baseline and space-borne interferometers. Looking to the future, the major upgrades to the ground based detectors and new planned detectors will be completed over the coming years, which will create a network of detectors with the significantly improved sensitivity required to detect gravitational waves. Beyond this, the concept and design of possible future “third generation” gravitational-wave detectors will be discussed. Sources such as coalescing compact binary systems, neutron stars in low-mass X-ray binaries, stellar collapses and pulsars are all possible candidates for detection.

Pneumorrhachis(Pr), or epidural emphysema, denotes the presence of air in the spinal epidural space. It can be associated with a variety of etiologies, including trauma; recent iatrogenic manipulations during surgical, anesthesiological and diagnostic interventions;malignancy and its associated therapy. It usually represents an asymptomatic epiphenomenon but also can be symptomatic by itself, as well as by its underlying pathology, and rarely can be fatal. The pathogenesis and etiology of Pr are varied and can sometimes be a diagnostic challenge. As such, there are no standard guidelines for the management of symptomatic Pr and its treatment is often individualized. Here, we present a case of a 14-year-old boy treated for leukemia who developed this complication and whether chemotherapy related or not, it proved to be fatal for him. To our knowledge, this is the first case in the literature of this complication with acute lymphoblastic leukemia.
