Change in valency of Nb-oxide in MnO-SiO_2-Nb_2O_5 system was studied with the electrochemical method using ZrO_2 as the solid *** analysis has shown that the only possible reaction that could take place at the working elec- trode is:2(Nb_2O_5)=2(Nb_2O_4)+O_2 with the a_0 values experimentally evaluated,values of a Nb_2O:/a Nb_2O:were calculated and isoactivity-ratio curves drawn in MnO-SiO_2-Nb_2O_5 triangles at 1418 and *** simultaneous existence of tetra-and penta-valent Nb mineral constituents in industrial Nb-bearing slags was thus verified experimentally.

The so-called Goto's model was modified by introducing a parameter of the oxygen efficiency from industrial trials, as well as the selected and newly re-assessed thermodynamic data. The application of the model to copper converters in Guixi Smelter has been carried out by the combination of thermodynamic calculations with the mass and heat balance using the plant data obtained in industrial trials for many heats. For the slag-making stage, good agreements have been reached betWeen the calculated and measured temperature, blowing time as well as the contents for main elements in the matte and the slag. Relativel}'' large deviations for contents of Zn and Pb in the slag may be caused by the complex chemical composition of the real molten slag, which ma}; result in a large difference of γzn. and γPb,adopted with their real values. It is noted that the model can simulate the slag-making stage of copper converting process in industrial Pierce-Smith converters well.

Theoretical calculations were based on thermodynamic equilibrium in the multi-component and multi-phase system with heat and mass balance as well as the oxygen efficiency to take account for the effects of process kinetics. The variations of temperature, mass fractions of dissolved oxygen and sulfur in blister copper, partial pressures for O2, S2, SO2 in gas phase for the copper-making stage were calculated. The model predicted temperature, time of blowing as well as mass of the blister copper at end points for 6 heats showed a fairly good agreements with corresponding plant data. The calculated content of 0.065% and content of 0.87% in blister copper were both at reasonable levels. Compared with the so called Goto model, the present model has very much improved process description of copper-making stage as well as the prediction of end points for a copper converter by introducing the oxygen efficiency.

The copper contents and its existing forms in the slags during the slag-making stage of Peirce-Smith converters in Guixi Smelter, Jiangxi Province, China have been investigated. The investigation was based on plant trials with the corresponding thermodynamic calculations and kinetic considerations. From the plant data, the total copper content in the slags was in the range of 2% to 8% (mass fraction). The mechanical entrainment of matte drops has been found to be the main cause of the copper loss. The suspension index, defined as the ratio of the mass fraction of copper in suspended matte drops in the slag to that in bulk of the matte phase, has been adopted to quantify the matte entrainment. The values of this parameter estimated in this work have been found mainly within a range of 2.5%-8.0%. The Fe3O4 content in the slag has been estimated to be the most important factor, among others, influencing the separation of slag with matte and, consequently, the copper loss from the slag.

Three soybean cultivars, Hefeng25 （HF25）, Suinongl4 （SN14） and Longxuanl （LX1） were used as materials and the accumulation features of carbohydrates were studied in leaves and stems. The results showed that the soluble sugar content in leaves and stems appeared the same trend of higher-lower-higher in three varieties. The changes of sucrose content in leaves appeared the same rule with that of soluble sugar, that is higher-lower-higher, while presented a rising trend in stems. The content of starch in leaves varied as a change of double apexes. The content of starch in stems appeared a change of single apex. In the same stage, there were some differences among carbohydrates. The content of soluble sugar and sucrose in SN14 was higher, and the starch content was lower.

By X-ray powder diffraction technique and oxygen content analysis, a solid solution Sm1+xBa2-xCu3Oy has been determined in the range 0≤x≤0.4. When x<0.25. the Sm1+xBa2-xCu3Oy presents orthorhombic symmetry, and the orthorhombic-tetragonaJ transition ocCurs at x = 0.25. With the increase of x, TC decreases and finally breaks. The correlation between ox ygen content and phase structure at different quench temperatures related to Sm Ba2Cu3Oy has been investigated as well

Equilibrium between liquid iron containing Nb with Nb_2O5-MnO-SiO_2 slag was investigated at 1828 K,the solid electrolyte oxygen concentration cell being used to measure the activity of oxygen in the metal *** activity of Nb_O_5 and MnO in the slag was evaluated, accompanied with an iso-activity diagram of a_(Nb_2O_5) and a_(MoO) in Nb_2O_5-MnO-SiO_2 slay.
