Optimal Number of Relays in Cooperative Communication in Wireless Sensor Networks

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN) typically consist of resource constrained micro sensors that organize itself into multihop wireless network. Sensors collect data and send it directly, or through intermediate hops in cooperative communication system, to the collection point. These sensors are powered up by batteries, for which the replacement or recharging is very difficult. With finite energy, we can transmit a finite amount of information. Therefore, minimizing the power consumption for data transmission becomes a most important design consideration for wireless sensor networks. In this paper, we discuss the optimal power consumption in cooperative wireless sensor network that are placed on a grid. We study different cases for the optimal power consumption in such grids by varying the grid distance and number of nodes in the grid. We assume the cases of grids from 2 × 2 up to 5 × 5 in increasing complexity of calculations. The results show that the optimal path that consumes the least power is the path along the diagonal using of the grid when the source and the destination and the furthest two nodes in the grid. This path takes intermediate nodes (relays) along it based on some threshold distances. For example, in 5 × 5 cases;the first threshold between the direct distance and between using one relay in the middle is 31.6 m the second threshold distance is 63.3 m after which using three relays is the best in power consumption between the source and the destination.

Automated Pavement Crack Detection Using Deep Feature Selection and Whale Optimization algorithm

Pavement crack detection plays a crucial role in ensuring road safety and reducing maintenance *** advancements in deep learning(DL)techniques have shown promising results in detecting pavement cracks;however,the selection of relevant features for classification remains *** this study,we propose a new approach for pavement crack detection that integrates deep learning for feature extraction,the whale optimization algorithm(WOA)for feature selection,and random forest(RF)for *** performance of the models was evaluated using accuracy,recall,precision,F1 score,and area under the receiver operating characteristic curve(AUC).Our findings reveal that Model 2,which incorporates RF into the ResNet-18 architecture,outperforms baseline Model 1 across all evaluation ***,our proposed model,which combines ResNet-18 with both WOA and RF,achieves significantly higher accuracy,recall,precision,and F1 score compared to the other two *** results underscore the effectiveness of integrating RF and WOA into ResNet-18 for pavement crack detection *** applied the proposed approach to a dataset of pavement images,achieving an accuracy of 97.16%and an AUC of *** results demonstrate that the proposed approach surpasses existing methods for pavement crack detection,offering a promising solution for the automatic identification of pavement *** leveraging this approach,potential safety hazards can be identified more effectively,enabling timely repairs and maintenance ***,the findings of this study also emphasize the potential of integrating RF and WOA with deep learning for pavement crack detection,providing road authorities with the necessary tools to make informed decisions regarding road infrastructure maintenance.

Acid leaching of heavy metals from contaminated soil collected from Jeddah,Saudi Arabia:kinetic and thermodynamics studies

Urban soils polluted with heavy metals are of increasing concern because it is greatly affecting human health and the ecological ***,it is mandatory to understand the reasons behind this pollution and remediate the contaminated *** removal of heavy metals from contaminated soil samples collected from the vicinity of the sewage lake in Jeddah,Saudi Arabia,was *** leaching process was studied kinetically and thermodynamically for better understanding of the remediation *** results showed that the soil samples were slightly basic in nature,and tend to be more neutral away from the main contaminated sewage lake *** total metal content in the soil samples was measured using the aqua regia extractions by ICPOES and the results showed that many of the heavy metals present have significant concentrations above the tolerable *** general,the metal concentrations at different sites indicated that the heavy metal pollution is mainly due to the sewage discharge to the *** results showed excellent correlation between the concentrations of Co,As,and Hg with the distance from the main contaminated *** leaching of Co,As,and Hg using 1.0 M hydrochloric acid from the soil was studied kinetically at different temperatures and the experimental results were fitted using different kinetics *** experimental data were best described with two-constant rate and Elovich equation kinetic ***,the thermodynamic study showed that the leaching process was spontaneous,endothermic and accompanied with increase in the *** general,the polluted soil could be remediated successfully from the heavy metals using the acid leaching procedure in a short period of time.
