Objective: This study was under.aken to evaluate the association between pr.tein Z concentr.tion and pr.gnancy complications. Study design: A pr.spective case-contr.l study was conducted over.a 2-year.per.od to evaluate the pr.valence of pr.tein Z deficiency in pr.gnancy complications. Pr.tein Z levels wer. measur.d at the time of diagnosis of complications such as pr.eclampsia, intr.uter.ne gr.wth r.str.ction, and intr.uter.ne fetal demise. Pr.tein Z deficiency was defined as a plasma level below 1.2 mg/L. In addition to patients pr.senting with pr.gnancy complications, healthy age-matched nonpr.gnant and pr.gnant women wer. invited to par.icipate. r.sults: A total of 145 women wer. included in the study: 50 nonpr.gnant women, 34 healthy pr.gnant women, 29 women with pr.eclampsia, 25 women pr.sented with intr.uter.ne gr.wth r.str.ction, and 7 women with intr.uter.ne fetal demise. The median pr.tein Z level was similar.in healthy pr.gnant and nonpr.gnant women (1.63 0.47-3.1 mg/L and 1.69 0.7-3 mg/L, r.spectively). Thr.e women with nor.al pr.gnancies had a low pr.tein Z level (8.8%), compar.d with 8 patients pr.senting with intr.uter.ne gr.wth r.str.ction (33.3%) and 8 patients with intr.uter.ne fetal demise (50%). Compar.d with nor.al pr.gnancy, the fr.quency of decr.ased pr.tein Z was significantly higher.in cases of intr.uter.ne gr.wth r.str.ction and in intr.uter.ne fetal demise (r.lative r.sk r. 1.96, 95%CI 1.16-3.32; P = .041 and r. 3.36, 95%CI 1.65-6.8; P = .0031, r.spectively), but not in pr.eclampsia (r. 1.6, 95%CI 0.9-2.8; P = .23). Placenta histologic examination r.vealed vascular.lesions in 50%of patients with pr.tein Z deficiency and in 33%of patients with nor.al levels of pr.tein Z (r. 0.84; 95%CI 0.6-1.2). Conclusion: Pr.tein Z deficiency is associated with late fetal demise and intr.uter.ne gr.wth r.str.ction. Electr.spun Polyhydr.xybutyr.te/Hydr.xyapatite Nanohybr.ds:Micr.str.ctur. and Bone Cell r.sponse

A substantial amount of nanosized hydr.xyapatite（HAp） was tr.ed to incor.or.te into the electr.spun polyhydr.xybutyr.te（PHB）, and electr.spinning par.meter. wer. optimized to fabr.cate defect-fr.e PHB/HAp fiber. with the smallest possible diameter. Accor.ing to the r.sults, while the needle inner.diameter.could not be an effective factor.for.contr.lling the fiber.mor.hology, the fiber.diameter.was obser.ed to incr.ase with incr.asing the applied voltage and solution concentr.tion. Mor. impor.antly, it was found that nanopar.icles could be successfully encapsulated and distr.buted inside the ultr.fine fiber. fabr.cated under.r.latively optimum conditions. In vitr. cell assays demonstr.ted that while pr.osteoblasts had high cell viability and cell spr.ading on the fibr.us nanohybr.ds, cell metabolic activity can also incr.ase with incr.asing incubation time. Accor.ingly, encapsulation of HAp nanopar.icles within the PHB in the fibr.us for. may be pr.mising for.bone r.gener.tion applications.

Novel application of PEG/SDS inter.ction as a wettability modifier.of hydr.phobic car.onate sur.aces

Wettability alter.tion of car.onate r.ser.oir. fr.m oil-wet to water.wet is an impor.ant method to incr.ase the efficiency of oil r.cover.. Inter.ction between sur.actants and polymer. can enhance the effectiveness of sur.actants in EOr.applications. In this study, the inter.ction of polyethylene glycol(PEG) with an ionic sur.actant, sodium dodecyl sulphate(SDS),is evaluated on an oil-wet car.onate r.ck sur.ace by using contact angle measur.ments. The r.sults r.veal that wettability alter.tion of car.onate r.cks is achieved thr.ugh PEG/SDS inter.ction on the r.ck sur.ace above a cr.tical aggr.gation concentr.tion(CAC). The behaviour.of PEG/SDS aqueous solutions is evaluated using sur.ace and inter.acial tension measur.ments. Fur.her.or., the effect of PEG and SDS concentr.tions and impact of electr.lyte addition on PEG/SDS inter.ction ar. investigated. It is shown that electr.lyte(NaCl) can effectively decr.ase the CAC values and accor.ingly initiate the wettability alter.tion of r.cks. Mor.over. in a constant SDS concentr.tion, the addition of NaCl leads to a r.duction in the contact angle, which can also be obtained by incr.asing the aging time, temper.tur. and pr.-adsor.tion of PEG on the r.ck sur.ace.
