Comparison of the Roles of Lymphatic Vessels and Blood Vessels in the Recurrence of Pterygia: A Retrospective Study

Purpose: Increased conjunctival arteries and lymphangions accelerate the cellular immune response in recurrent pterygium, however, which plays a more important role warrants further investigation. The aim of the study is to compare the roles of lymphatic and blood vessels in pterygium recurrence. Methods: Histological sections from 48 excised recurrent pterygia (including 14 Grade 1, 20 Grade 2, and 14 Grade 3 tissues) were examined. Histological sections from seven nasal epibulbar conjunctival segments served as normal controls. Blood and lymphatic vessels were evaluated and compared according to blood microvessel density (BMD), blood vascular area (BVA), lymphatic microvessel density (LMD), and lymph-vascular area (LVA). Furthermore, the following relationships were analyzed: LMD and pterygium recurrence time (RT), LVA and RT, BMD and RT, BVA and RT. Results: Compared to LVA, LMD, BVA, and BVD values in normal control tissues, these values were markedly enhanced in recurrent pterygia tissues. The LMD/BMD and LVA/BVA ratios were significant increased in Grade 2 and 3 recurrent pterygia, suggesting that development of conjunctival lymphangions was not proportional to blood vessel growth. LMD, LVA and BVA were significantly correlated with RT for all grades of pterygia, while BMD was the only factor correlated with RT in Grade 1 pterygia. Moreover, no significant correlation was found between BMD and RT in Grade 2 and 3 pterygia. Conclusion: Compared to blood vessels, lymphangions might have a greater impact on pterygium recurrence.

The Fabrication and Detection Performance of High Sensitivity Au-Ag Alloy Nanostar/Paper Flexible Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopy Sensors

Au-Ag alloy nanostars based flexible paper surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy sensors were fabricated through simple nanostar coating on regular office paper,and the surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy detection performances were investigated using crystal violet dye ***-Ag nanostars with sharp tips were synthesized via metal ions reduction *** electron microscope images,X-Ray diffraction pattern and energy dispersive spectroscopy elemental mapping confirmed the nanostar geometry and Au/Ag components of the ***-Vis-NIR absorption spectrum shows wide local surface plasmon resonance induced optical *** addition,finite-difference time-domain simulation shows much stronger electromagnetic field from nanostars than from sphere *** effect of coating layer on Raman signal intensities was discussed,and optimized 5-layer coating with best Raman signal was *** Au-Ag nanostatrs homogeneously distribute on paper fiber *** detection limit is 10-10 M,and the relationship between analyte concentrations and Raman signal intensities shows well linear,for potential quantitative *** calculated enhancement factor is 4.795×10^(6).The flexible paper surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy sensors could be applied for trace chemical and biology molecule detection.

Innovation,financial permeation,and income inequality:From a dynamicperspective in China

Innovation is a driving force of wealth *** explore its time-varying effect on income inequality,we propose a nonparametric model using the local linear dummy variable estimation(LLDVE)*** on province-level panel data from China spanning from 2006 to 2020,we find that innovation initially reduces income disparity until 2009,then exacerbates it from 2013 to 2016,and alleviates inequality again over *** further verify that financial permeation serves as a catalyst in the inequitable income distribution driven by ***,this moderating effect reverses the relationship between green innovation and income *** suggests that we should enhance the financial service towards all aspects of innovation beyond its support of green innovation.

High-Speed Rubbing Behavior of Abrasive Coating Coated on Titanium Alloy Blade Tips

In aero-engines, abrasive coatings are typically utilized to protect the blade tip from excessive wear caused by the harder abradable sealing coating and thereby improve the sealing performance of engines. Therefore, a Ni/cBN abrasive coating was prepared on titanium alloy using electrodeposition. The high-speed rubbing tests with a linear velocity of 350 m/s and different incursion rates were performed to investigate the effect of the Ni/cBN abrasive coating on the wear behavior against NiCrAl/diatomite seal coating. Results showed that melting wear and adhesive transfer occurred on the bare blades, causing the bare blade to suffer excessive wear. While the Ni/cBN abrasive coating exhibited superior wear resistance and cutting performance. The cBN grits pullout, the abrasion of Ni matrix and transfer of seal coating to the cBN grits were the main wear mechanism of the Ni/cBN abrasive coating. Additionally, it was found that the relationship between the incursion rate and high-speed rubbing behavior is quite different for the bare blade and Ni/cBN coating. The reason for the difference in wear behavior of bare blade and Ni/cBN coating at different incursion rates was discussed in detail.

Role of macrophages in aortic dissection pathogenesis: insights from preclinical studies to translational prospective

Aortic dissection is a critical vascular disease that is characterized by a high mortality rate and inflammation significantly influences its onset and progression. Recent studies highlight the integral role of macrophages, key players in the immune system, in the pathological landscape of aortic dissection. These cells are involved in crucial processes, such as the remodeling of the extracellular matrix, immunocyte infiltration, and phenotypic switching of smooth muscle cells, which are essential for the structural integrity and functional dynamics of the aortic wall. Despite these insights, the specific contributions of macrophages to the development and progression of aortic dissection remains unclear. This review explores the pathogenesis of aortic dissection with a focus on macrophages and describes their origins,phenotypic variations, and potential roles based on the most recent research findings. Furthermore, we discuss key molecules related to macrophages during aortic dissection, their interactions with other cellular components within the aorta, and the implications of these interactions for future therapeutic strategies. This comprehensive analysis aimed to improve our understanding of macrophages in aortic dissection and promote the development of targeted interventions.

Relationships between blood chromium exposure and liver injury:Exploring the mediating role of systemic inflammation in a chromate-exposed population

Hexavalent chromium and its compounds are prevalent pollutants,especially in the work environment,pose a significant risk for multisystem toxicity and *** it is known that chromium accumulation in the liver can cause damage,the dose-response relationship between blood chromium(Cr)and liver injury,as well as the possible potential toxic mechanisms involved,remains poorly *** address this,we conducted a follow-up study of 590 visits from 305 participants to investigate the associations of blood Cr with biomarkers for liver injury,including serum alanine aminotransferase(ALT),aspartate aminotransferase(AST),total bilirubin(TBIL),and direct bilirubin(DBIL),and to evaluate the mediating effects of systemic ***(PLT)and the platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio(PLR)were utilized as biomarkers of systemic *** the linear mixed-effects analyses,each 1-unit increase in blood Cr level was associated with estimated effect percentage increases of 0.82%(0.11%,1.53%)in TBIL,1.67%(0.06%,3.28%)in DBIL,0.73%(0.04%,1.43%)in ALT and 2.08%(0.29%,3.87%)in AST,***,PLT mediated 10.04%,11.35%,and 10.77%increases in TBIL,DBIL,and ALT levels induced by chromate,*** addition,PLR mediated 8.26%and 15.58%of the association between blood Cr and TBIL or *** findings shed light on the mechanisms underlying blood Cr-induced liver injury,which is partly due to worsening systemic inflammation.

Antibody Levels and Infection Status of Pertussis in the Population under Pertussis Resurgence in Guangxi in 2018:A Cross-Sectional Survey

Objective Pertussis cases have increased markedly since 2018 in *** aim of this study was to evaluate antibody levels and the infection status of pertussis in the resident *** A total of 10,215 serum samples from residents were collected from August-November 2018 and tested for anti-pertussis IgG and toxin IgG using the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).Results Of the collected samples,1,833(17.94%)tested positive for anti-pertussis IgG,with the median concentration of 16.06 IU/*** level<10 IU/mL accounted for more than 60%in children under 4 years of age,but declined with age,whereas the percentages of the other three levels(10-40,40-50,and≥50 IU/mL)increased almost with age(P<0.001).Moreover,7,924 samples were selected for anti-pertussis toxin IgG,of which 653(8.24%)tested positive(≥40 IU/mL)with the median concentration of 5.89 IU/mL,and 204 participants(2.56%)had recent pertussis infection(≥100 IU/mL).Among the different age groups,the highest rates of positivity and recent infection were observed at 11-20 years of age,the lowest positivity rate at 5 years of age,and the lowest recent infection rate at 4 years of age(P<0.001,P=0.005,respectively).Conclusion The survey results showed that all age groups in Guangxi lacked immunity against pertussis,which was one of the main factors contributing to the resurgence of pertussis in *** addition,the prevalence of pertussis is relatively high in Guangxi,and its incidence is seriously underestimated,especially in adolescents and adults.

Skeletal muscle has a robust regeneration ability that is impaired by severe injury,disease,and *** in a decline in skeletal muscle ***,improving skeletal muscle regeneration is a key challenge in treating skeletal muscle-related *** to their significant role in tissue regeneration,implantation of M2 macrophages(M2MФ)has great potential for improving skeletal muscle ***,we present a short-wave infrared(SWIR)fluorescence imaging technique to obtain more in vivo information for an in-depth evaluation of the skeletal muscle regeneration effect after M2MФ*** fluorescence imaging was employed to track implanted M2MФin the injured skeletal muscle of mouse *** is found that the implanted M2MФaccumulated at the injury site for two ***,SWIR fluorescence imaging of blood vessels showed that M2MФimplantation could improve the relative perfusion ratio on day 5(1.09±0.09 vs 0.85±0.05;p=0.01)and day 9(1.38±0.16 vs 0.95±0.03;p=0.01)post-injury,as well as augment the degree of skeletal muscle regencration on day 13 ***,multiple linear regression analyses determined that post-injury time and relative perfusion ratio could be used as predictive indicators to evaluate skeletal muscle *** results provide more in vivo details about M2MФin skeletal muscle regeneration and confirm that M2MФcould promote angiogenesis and improve the degree of skeletal muscle repair,which will guide the research and development of M2MФimplantation to improve skeletal muscle regeneration.
