This study investigated the level of natural radioactivity and radiological risks of 40 different ceramic tiles through gamma-ray spectroscopy using a high-purity germanium detector. The calculated activity concentrations were evaluated to determine their potential radiological risks to human health. Furthermore, the activity concentrations were subjected to the RESRAD-BUILD computer code to assess the effect of ventilation rate, dweller position, and room size and direction on the total effective dose(TED). The simulated TED received by a receptor when changing the ventilation rate in a room ranged from0.26 ± 0.01 to 0.61 ± 0.01 mSv/y; however,the percentage variations in the TED due to dweller position and room size are 34, 31,and 35% and 33, 27, and 40% for the x-,y-,and z-directions, respectively. The overall TED received by the dweller based on room size and direction is 0.75 mSv/y. The calculated radiological risk parameters were all below the recommended maximum limit. However, the TED received by the dweller is significantly affected by the directions of the measurement, position,room size,and ventilation. Therefore,estimating the TED from one direction would underestimate the total dose received by the dweller.

Unlike fresh farm produce,processed fruits and vegetables such as sun dried tomatoes can be categorized as ambient temperature shelf stable ***,large quantities of these products yet easily go bad most especially when the appropriate conditions for their storage are not *** minimize these losses,it is important to know and exploit the optimum environmental conditions and moisture content range for the storage of the *** present study through systematic theoretical assertions employed by other researchers on other crops seeks to establish the storage stability of dried tomato slice at three probable temperatures of 10,30 and 45°*** showed that in this temperature range,upper limit moisture content varied between 6%-7.5%and 6.5%-8.3%*** adsorption and desorption,*** corresponding lower limit moisture contents varied between 4.29%-5.52%and 5.15%-6.29%*** order to minimize moisture migration into or out of dried tomato slice during storage,the study revealed that the product should be stored within 29%-62%relative humidity.

Ethylene is an important feedstock for various industrial processes, particularly in the polymer industry. Unfortunately, during naphtha cracking to produce ethylene, there are instances of acetylene presence in the product stream, which poisons the Ziegler–Natta polymerization catalysts. Thus, appropriate process modification, optimization, and in particular, catalyst design are essential to ensure the production of highly pure ethylene that is suitable as a feedstock in polymerization reactions. Accordingly, carefully selected process parameters and the application of various catalyst systems have been optimized for this purpose. This review provides a holistic view of the recent reports on the selective hydrogenation of acetylene. Previously published reviews were limited to Pd catalysts. However, effective new metal and non-metal catalysts have been explored for selective acetylene hydrogenation. Updates on this recent progress and more comprehensive computational studies that are now available for the reaction are described herein. In addition to the favored Pd catalysts, other catalyst systems including mono, bimetallic, trimetallic, and ionic catalysts are presented. The specific role(s) that each process parameter plays to achieve high acetylene conversion and ethylene selectivity is discussed. Attempts have been made to elucidate the possible catalyst deactivation mechanisms involved in the reaction. Extensive reports suggest that acetylene adsorption occurs through an active single-site mechanism rather than via dual active sites. An increase in the reaction temperature affords high acetylene conversion and ethylene selectivity to obtain reactant streams free of ethylene. Conflicting findings to this trend have reported the presence of ethylene in the feed stream. This review will serve as a useful resource of condensed information for researchers in the field of acetylene-selective hydrogenation.

The biomass of agricultural wastes as a source of fermentable sugars for biofuels production will address the food security and environmental preservation *** wastes are rich in lignocellulosic materials which can be hydrolyzed into fermentable ***,low sugar yield and high energy consumption are some of the challenges faced in the process of *** study investigated the low-cost corncob substrate for glucose production by dilute sulphuric acid hydrolysis in the presence of ZnCl_(2) at temperatures below 100℃after pretreatment with 10%*** dependent hydrolysis data were analyzed by Saeman model,thermodynamic parameters were obtained using Erying and Arrhenius equations while Box-Behnken model(Design Expert 6.0 version)was used for experimental *** the substrate concentration increased from 50 mg/L to 150 mg/L,glucose yield increased from 10.4 mg/g to 14.6 mg/g for pretreated corncob while an increase from 3.4 mg/g to 8.6 mg/g was noted for untreated *** hydrolysis rate constant was two orders of magnitude higher than the degradation rate *** parameters revealed endothermic process with positive Gibb’s free energy of hydrolysis having average values of 84.76 kJ/mol and 79.87 kJ/mol for pretreated and untreated samples *** optimum yield from the model was found to be 177.44 mg/g with 3.94%H_(2)SO_(4) and 0.43 mol/L ZnCl_(2) for 200 g/L compared with optimum yield of 46.37 mg/g obtainable without ZnCl_(2).The results of this study showed that the alkaline pretreatment of corncob increased the accessibility of cellulose from the solid fraction and increase glucose production.

Background： Improving the unsaturated fatty acid content of ruminant meat is essential due to the generally saturated nature of fatty acids in ruminant meat and the negative effects this can have on human health. Nonetheless, enhancing the unsaturated fatty acid content of ruminant meat can have adverse effects on the shelf life and quality attributes of the meat. This study assessed the effects of dietary 80 % canola oil and 20 % palm oil blend（CPOB） on fatty acid composition, antioxidants, oxidative spoilage, cholesterol and physicochemical properties of semimembranosus（SM）muscle from goats. Twenty four Boer bucks were randomly assigned to diets containing on dry matter basis 0, 4 and8 % CPOB, fed for 100 d and slaughtered. The carcasses were subjected to a 7 d postmortem refrigerated storage. Al analyses were conducted on the SM ***： Diet had no effect（P 〉 0.05） on the concentration of free thiol and carbonyl and the band intensity of myosin heavy chain, actin and troponin T. The muscle glycogen, p H, water holding capacity, tenderness, glutathione peroxidase（GPX） activity, total carotenoid, δ-tocopherol, cholesterol and proximate composition did not differ（P 〉 0.05） between diets. The SM muscle from goats fed 4 and 8 % CPOB had lower（P 〈 0.05） concentration of C14：0 and C16：0 and higher（P 〈 0.05） concentration of C18：1 trans-11, C18：1ω-9, C18：3ω-3, C20：5ω-3 and C22：5ω-3 than the SM muscle from the control goats. Dietary CPOB increased（P 〈 0.05） the concentration of α and γ tocopherol and meat redness（a＊） on d1 and 4 postmortem. Regardless of diet, antioxidant vitamins, and shear force decreased（P 〈 0.05） while drip loss, lipid and protein oxidation increased（P 〈 0.05） as postmortem storage ***： Results evince that dietary CPOB can be used as a management tool to enhance the beneficial fatty acids and antioxidant contents of chevon without deleterious effects on its physicochemical properties and shelf life.

Crude oil transportation through pipelines presents danger to communities along its path. In the Niger Delta region of Nigeria for instance, pipeline vandalism occurs indiscriminately and regularly, such that every segment of a pipeline network becomes a potential target and possibly source of oil spill hazard. In terms of pipeline hazard and risk distribution, the oil plume’s ability to migrate freely in wetlands and encroachment on pipeline right of ways by people increases chances of wider contact and exposure opportunities to inhabitants and the environment. Despite several efforts to mitigate pipeline hazards in the oil and gas sector, none has been effective in Nigeria partly due to paucity of data in public domain and poor public participation. Therefore considering the environmental and human health challenges associated with oil spills, an alternative method was developed using multi-criteria decision analysis to model 1) pipeline hazard zones, 2) potential pipeline impact radius, and 3) high consequence areas with four attribute layers, i.e. land cover, population, river and pipeline to encourage public participation. The model identified land use areas, communities and rivers likely to be susceptible to pipeline hazards and areas requiring regular monitoring and possible intervention. Meanwhile the model sensitivity test indicated that the river layer was most sensitive, while transferability was limited to similar criteria variables. The model can stimulate public participation in pipeline hazard management while policy makers and regulators would find it relevant in oil spill impact mitigation.

遗传参数是设计动物育种规划和预测选择进展的重要参数,且是群体特异的。本研究使用贝叶斯相关方法对华东地区45,517荷斯坦奶牛的23个体型性状进行了遗传参数估计。并对这些性状进行了综合评价,方法包括:1)使用中国奶牛协会（Dairy Association of China,DAC）提供的综合指数;2)使用主成分分析（PCA）和因子分析（FA）探索这些体型性状之间的关系。综合指数的估计遗传力属于低（肢蹄性状为0.04）到中遗传力（体容量性状为0.23）。单个体型性状（IBCT）之间的遗传相关较高。特征向量大于1的第一至第七主成分和潜在因子都解释了60.37%的变异。第一主成分和第一因子所包含的性状主要是与产奶量相关的性状。使用多性状模型估计的主成分的遗传力（0.07~0.21）及潜在因子的遗传力（0.07~0.23）为低到中等遗传力。多变量之间的遗传相关明显低于单个性状之间的遗传相关。本研究结果表明PCA及FA将体型性状简化为新的变量可用于提高中国荷斯坦牛的遗传进展。另外,PCA和FA可以用于减少估计性状的数量从而提高大数据及复杂性状的分析准确性及降低计算负担。我们对621头具有简化基因组测定（GGRS）基因型的个体开展了全基因组关联分析（GWAS）,并找到了三个相关联的单核苷酸多态性（single nucleotide polymorphism,SNP）位点。其中,10号染色体上的一个SNP被发现与PC1相关,15及24号染色体上的两个SNP与PC3相关。我们研究了位于这三个SNP附近的基因,发现了可能的候选基因。例如,ACOT4-like（acyl-CoA硫脂酶4样）和STIM1（机制相互作用分子1）以及U6（U6剪接体RNA）。这些基因之前都没有被报道与体型性状关联。ACOT4基因在家畜中还没有被定义其特性。STIM1被发现主要在牛主动脉内皮细胞（BAECs）中表达,在钙池操纵钙离子通道（SOCE）和肌醇1,4,5三磷酸受体（IP3R）依赖钙离子释放中都有正向效应。而U6基因之前被证实在内洛尔牛种与繁殖性状相关。下一步计划是开展验证试验来找出这些基因在奶牛体型性状中的角色。

Post-consumer polymeric wastes in form of low-density polyethylene (LDPE) can now be considered suitable as a precursor for the synthesis of low-cost activated carbon (AC). This study produced AC from LDPE using sulphuric acid (H2SO4) and potassium hydroxide (KOH) as the activating agent. The reaction conditions for pyrolysis were varied in the range of 0.50 - 2.00 M, 400°C - 500°C, and 45 - 60 minutes. Physico-chemical investigations reveal that AC yield is significantly dependent on both carbonization temperatures and time. The obtained optimum values of 446.50°C and 51.09 mins gave a yield of 24% for the base-activated carbon. The high iodine numbers obtained strongly indicate the presence of large surface area and pore volumes is further confirmed using the Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) analysis which reveals the presence of pores on the external surface of the carbons. Fourier Transform Infrared Technique (FTIR) analysis further shows that the synthesized compounds are purely carbon with rich oxy-gen-surface complexes on the surface which is as a result of the introduction of the chemical oxidizing agents. The produced carbons were found to have high adsorption affinity for selected inorganic ions which are: Mn7+, Co2+, and Cr6+. Adsorption isotherm results show the adsorption process to be favourable with the Langmuir isotherm parameter RL having values of <1, while the Freudlich adsorption model was found to perfectly fit the data at selected adsorbent dosages and adsorbate concentrations.
