Near-Earth object(NEO)impact is one of the examples of high impact and low probability(HILP)event,same as the Covid-19 pandemic the world faces since the beginning of *** 7 th Planetary Defense Conference held by the International Academy of Astronautics(IAA)in April 2021 included an exercise on a hypothetical NEO impact event,allowing the planetary defense community to discuss potential *** the span of the 4-day conference this exercise connected disaster response and management professionals to participate in a series of panels,providing feedback and perspective on the unfolding crisis *** hypothetical but realistic asteroid threat scenario illustrated how such a short-warning threat might *** scenario utilized during the conference indicates a need to prepare now for what might come in the future,because even with advance notice,preparation time might be *** scenario chose Europe for the impact,which may likely cope with such a disaster,through the Union Civil Protection Mechanism(UCPM)and other solidarity and support mechanisms within the European Union(EU),as well as with potential support from international *** short article raises concern about other areas in the world on how they may access NEO impact information and cope with such *** also provides an idea on vast scale of such disaster vis-a-vis the current capacity of response systems to cope with a larger event in Europe or *** scenario showed that planetary defense is a global *** engagement of the planetary defense and disaster response communities is essential in order to keep the world safe from potential disasters caused by NEO impacts.

Low-salinity-based enhanced oil recovery literature review and associated screening criteria

A thorough literature review is conducted that pertains to low-salinity-based enhanced oil recovery(EOR).This is meant to be a comprehensive review of all the refereed published papers,conference papers,master’s theses and other reports in this *** review is specifically focused on establishing various relations/characteristics or"screening criteria"such as:(1)classification/grouping of clays that have shown or are amenable to low-salinity benefits;(2)clay types *** of residual oil saturations;(3)API gravity and down hole oil viscosity range that is amenable for low salinity;(4)salinity range for EOR benefits;(5)pore sizes,porosity,absolute permeability and wettability range for low-salinity EOR;(6)continuous low-salinity injection ***-wise injection;(7)grouping of possible low-salinity mechanisms;(8)contradictions or similarities between laboratory experiments and field evidence;and(9)compositional variations in tested low-salinity waters.A proposed screening criterion for low-salinity waterflooding is *** can be concluded that either one or more of these mechanisms,or a combination thereof,may be the case-specific mechanism,i.e.,depending on the particular oil–brine–rock(OBR)system rather than something that is"universal"or universally ***,every OBR system that is unique or specific ought to be individually investigated to determine the benefits(if any)of low-salinity water injection;however,the proposed screening criteria may help in narrowing down some of the dominant responsible *** this review primarily focuses on sandstones,given the prominence of carbonates containing^60%of the world’s oil reserves,a summary of possible mechanisms and screening criteria,pertaining to low-salinity waterflooding,for carbonates is also ***,the enhancement of polymer flooding by using low-salinity water as a makeup water to further decrease the residual oil saturation is also discussed.

Release rate kinetics of corrosion inhibitor loaded halloysite nanotube-based anticorrosion coatings on magnesium alloy AZ91D

Halloysite nanotubes were used as nanocontainers to hold corrosion inhibitors such as Ce^(3+)-Zr^(4+),2-mercaptobenzothiazole and 8-hydroxyquinoline in their *** acid assisted etching of the nanotubes was carried out with a view to increase the lumen diameter and thereby,increase the amount of loading of the corrosion *** morphology of as-received and etched halloysite nanotubes was ob-served using TEM *** loading of corrosion inhibitors was confirmed using SEM-EDS and BET *** microcapsules were used as capping agents for the ends of the loaded HNTs following which,they were dispersed into a hybrid sol-gel silica *** coating method was used to generate coatings on AZ91D substrates followed by heat treatment at 130℃ for 1 *** release rate kinetics of corrosion inhibitors from as-received and etched nanotubes was investigated in buffer solutions of 3.5 wt%NaCl at different *** release mechanism of corrosion inhibitors from the HNT lumen was validated using various semi-empirical *** were also evaluated for their corrosion protection ability using electrochemical techniques after exposure to 3.5 wt%NaCl solution for 120 *** generated using Ce^(3+)-Zr^(4+)loaded into as-received halloysite nanotubes have shown more effective corrosion protection when compared to other corrosion inhibitors after 120 h exposure to the corrosive medium.

Bell’s palsy workup:Does audiometry add value?

Objective:To investigate if routine audiometry in Bell’s palsy patients has prognostic ***:Retrospective case review was conducted on all Bell’s palsy patients(n紏191)seen at the tertiary otolaryngology specialist outpatient clinic from 2015 to *** of ipsilesional audiometric thresholds with patients’time-to-recovery and initial clinical severity(measured by House-Brackmann(HB)scoring)were used for the prognostic outcome *** results were analyzed using three contiguous frequency pure-tone average(1kHz,2kHz,4kHz).Statistical analysis was done via Stata(v13.1),significance tests were 2-sided at 5%significance ***:There was no significant difference between audiometric thresholds between the ipsilesional ear and the contralateral ear(p=0.87).Time-to-recovery was significantly longer for patients with severe initial presentation as compared to mild and moderate severity(p<0.01).There was no correlation found between the audiometry results and HB score at presentation(p=0.39).There was no correlation found between ipsilesional audiometric thresholds and time-to-recovery(p=0.58).Conclusion:Our study suggests that routine audiometry has limited prognostic value in Bell’s palsy patients.

A cross-sectional study on coronary artery disease diagnosis in patients with peripheral artery disease

Pt-CeO_2/SiO_2 catalyst for CO oxidation in humid air at ambient temperature

CO self-poisoning and slow surface kinetics pose major challenges to a CO oxidation catalyst that should work at ambient ***,the presence of moisture would cause passivation of the catalyst A highly active ceria promoted Pt catalyst（4%Pt-12%CeO_2/SiO_2;conversion≥99%at low（ 500 ppm） and high（ 2500 ppm） CO concentrations was developed for CO oxidation at ambient temperature in humid *** preparation variables such as Pt and CeO_2 loading,ceria deposition method,drying and calcination conditions for the ceria and Pt precursors were optimized *** activity was correlated with surface properties using CO/H_2 chemisorption,O_2-H_2 titration,X-ray diffraction and BET surface area *** method of CeO_2 deposition had a significant impact on the catalytic ***_2 deposition by impregnation resulted in a catalyst that was three times more active than that prepared by deposition precipitation or CeO_2grafting.O_2-H_2 titration results revealed that the close association of ceria and Pt in the case of CeO_2deposition by impregnation resulted in higher *** catalyst support used was also crucial as a silica supported catalyst was five times more active than an alumina supported *** particle size and pore structure of the catalyst support were also crucial as the reaction was diffusion *** drying and calcination conditions of the ceria and Pt precursors also played a crucial role in determining the catalytic *** Pt-CeO_2/SiO_2 catalysts with Pt 2.5 wt%and CeO_2 15 wt%were highly active（TOF 0.02 s^（-1）） and stable（conversion 99%after 15 h） at ambient conditions.

The properties of oil and gas formation could be significantly damaged during drilling and completion operations as a result of mud invasion,fluid incompatibility and interaction with rock *** paper presents a systematic method for evaluating formation damage during filter cake deposition(primary damage)and removal process(secondary damage).The role of primary damage in the evolution of secondary damage was also *** interaction of the filter cake solvent(chelating agent solution)with the rock samples was implemented through core flooding *** Magnetic Resonance(NMR)was used to evaluate the properties of the rock sample,pre and post filter cake deposition and removal *** results show that secondary damaged is a strong function of the location and the intensity of the primary *** rock type and its pore structure also play important roles in both primary and secondary *** extent of secondary damage depends on the amount of barium sulphate deposited during primary *** chelating agent used to dissolve the barites in sandstones,deposited the barite in the small pores while it enlarges the bigger *** contrast,the chelating agent in the carbonate samples had multiple barite deposition points.

Ultrasound Assisted Synthesis of Starch Nanocrystals and It’s Applications with Polyurethane for Packaging Film

Starch nanocrystals(SNC)were prepared from maize starch using ultrasound assisted acid *** process takes less time for the generation of SNC,which is advantageous over conventional acid *** synthesized SNC were characterized using X-ray diffraction,dynamic light scattering,zeta potential and transmission electron microscopy(TEM).Particle size and TEM data show that the particles were near to 150 nm,with oval *** SNC with higher surface charge are obtained with this innovative approach as compared to conventional acid *** of high surface charge and oval like morphology,the SNC performed well in reinforcing a polyurethane *** rise in crystallinity by 16%was observed due to ultrasound *** the lower concentration of SNC in nanocomposite film,dynamic mechanical analysis demonstrated meaningful increment in mechanical properties of polyurethane nanocomposite *** decrease in chain slippage over the glass transition temperature was observed because of the SNC reinforcement in polyurethane *** to the conventional acid hydrolysis,the present approach for the synthesis of starch nanocrystals is much faster and easier.
