The rapid expansion of renewable energies asks for great progress of energy-storage technologies for sustainable energy supplies,which raises the compelling demand of high-performance rechargeable batteries.To satisfy the huge demand from the coming energy-storage market,the resource and cost-effectiveness of rechargeable batteries become more and more important.Manganese(Mn)as a key transition element with advantages including high abundance,low cost,and low toxicity derives various kinds(spinels,layered oxides,polyanions,Prussian blue analogs,etc.)of high-performance Mn-based electrode materials,especially cathodes,for rechargeable batteries ranging from Li-ion batteries,Na-ion batteries,aqueous batteries,to multivalent metal-ion batteries.It is anticipated that Mn-based materials with Mn as the major transition-metal element will constitute a flourishing family of Mn-based rechargeable batteries(Mn RBs)for large-scale and differentiated energy-storage applications.On the other hand,several critical issues including Jahn-Teller effect,Mn dissolution,and O release greatly hinder the pace of Mn RBs,which require extensive material optimizations and battery/system improvements.This review aims to provide an investigation about Mn-based materials and batteries for the coming energy-storage demands,with compelling issues and challenges that must be overcome.

Regulation of different light conditions for efficient biomass production and protein accumulation of Spirulina platensis

Light plays an important role in the photosynthesis and metabolic process of microalgae.However,how different light conditions regulate the biomass production and protein accumulation of microalgae is mostly unknown.In this study,the influence of different light conditions,including light colors,densities,and light:dark cycles on the cell growth and biochemical composition of Spirulina platensis was symmetrically characterized.Under different colored lights,S.platensis all shows an increase trend within the increased light intensity ranges;however,each showing different optimal light intensities.At the same light intensity,different colored lights show different growth rate of S.platensis following the sequence of red>white>green>yellow>blue.The maximum growth rate and protein accumulation were determined as 21.88 and 5.10 mg/(L·d)when illuminated under red LED.The energy efficiency of different light sources was calculated and ranked as red>white>blue≈green>yellow.Transcriptomic analysis suggests that red light can promote cell growth and protein accumulation by upregulating genes related to photosynthesis,carbon fixation,and C-N metabolism pathways.This study provides a conducive and efficient way to promote biomass production and protein accumulation of S.platensis by regulating light conditions.

Research on Multi-Scale Feature Fusion Network Algorithm Based on Brain Tumor Medical Image Classification

Gliomas have the highest mortality rate of all brain tumors.Correctly classifying the glioma risk period can help doctors make reasonable treatment plans and improve patients’survival rates.This paper proposes a hierarchical multi-scale attention feature fusion medical image classification network(HMAC-Net),which effectively combines global features and local features.The network framework consists of three parallel layers:The global feature extraction layer,the local feature extraction layer,and the multi-scale feature fusion layer.A linear sparse attention mechanism is designed in the global feature extraction layer to reduce information redundancy.In the local feature extraction layer,a bilateral local attention mechanism is introduced to improve the extraction of relevant information between adjacent slices.In the multi-scale feature fusion layer,a channel fusion block combining convolutional attention mechanism and residual inverse multi-layer perceptron is proposed to prevent gradient disappearance and network degradation and improve feature representation capability.The double-branch iterative multi-scale classification block is used to improve the classification performance.On the brain glioma risk grading dataset,the results of the ablation experiment and comparison experiment show that the proposed HMAC-Net has the best performance in both qualitative analysis of heat maps and quantitative analysis of evaluation indicators.On the dataset of skin cancer classification,the generalization experiment results show that the proposed HMAC-Net has a good generalization effect.

Production of linear alkylbenzene over Ce containing Beta zeolites

Ce-encapsulated Beta zeolite was synthesized by a one-pot hydrothermal method with citric acid complexing Ce in the absence of Na species.Additional citric acid can effectively prevent the deposition of Ce species during the hydrothermal synthesis of zeolites,leading to uniform distribution of Ce cluster in the framework of Beta zeolites.Moreover,the sodium-free synthesis system resulted that the Brønsted acid sites were mainly located on the straight channels and external surface of Beta zeolites,improving the utilization of Brønsted acid sites.In addition,Ce encapsulated Beta zeolites showed enhanced activity and robust stability in the alkylation of benzene with 1-dodecene based on the synergistic effect between Ce species and Brønsted acid sites,which pave the way for its practical application in the production of alkylbenzene.

Molecular cloning,characterization and promoter analysis of LbgCWIN1 and its expression profiles in response to exogenous sucrose during in vitro bulblet initiation in lily

Lily(Lilium spp.) is an important ornamental flower, which is mainly propagated by bulbs. Cell wall invertases(CWINs), which catalyze the irreversibly conversion of sucrose into glucose and fructose in the extracellular space, are key enzymes participating in sucrose allocation in higher plants. Previous studies have shown that CWINs play an essential role in bulblet initiation process in bulbous crops, but the underlying molecular mechanism remains unclear. Here, a CWIN gene of Lilium brownii var. giganteum(Lbg) was identified and amplified from genomic DNA. Quantitative RT-PCR assays revealed that the expression level of LbgCWIN1 was highly upregulated exactly when the endogenous starch degraded in non-sucrose medium during in vitro bulblet initiation in Lbg. Phylogenetic relationship, motif, and domain analysis of LbgCWIN1 protein and CWINs in other plant species showed that all sequences of these CWIN proteins were highly conserved. The promoter sequence of LbgCWIN1 possessed a number of alpha-amylase-, phytohormone-, light-and stress-responsive cis-elements. Meanwhile, β-glucuronidase(GUS) assay showed that the 459 bp upstream fragment from the translational start site displayed maximal promoter activity. These results revealed that LbgCWIN1 might function in the process of in vitro bulblet initiation and be in the response to degradation of endogenous starch.

Network pharmacology and experimental validation to reveal the pharmacological mechanisms of Sini decoction(四逆汤)against renal fibrosis

OBJECTIVE:To investigate the mechanism by which Sini decoction(四逆汤,SND)improves renal fibrosis(Rf)in rats based on transforming growth factor β1/Smad(TGF-β1/Smad)signaling pathway.METHODS:Network pharmacology was applied to obtain potentially involved signaling pathways in SND's improving effects on Rf.The targets of SND drug components and the targets of Rf were obtained by searching databases,such as the Traditional Chinese Medicine Systems Pharmacology Database and Analysis Platform(TCSMP)and GeenCard.The intersection targets of two searches were obtained and underwent signaling pathway analysis using a Venn diagram.Then experimental pharmacology was utilized to prove and investigate the effects of SND on target proteins in the TGF-β1/Smad signaling pathway.The Rf rat model was established by unilateral ureteral occlusion(UUO).The expression levels of transforming growth factor,matrix metalloproteinase-9(MMP-9),matrix metal protease-2(MMP-2),connective tissue growth factor(CTGF),and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-1(TIMP-1)were determined by Masson staining of rat renal tissue,and immunohistochemical methods.The expression levels of Smad3,Smad2,and Smad7 in renal tissue were determined by Western blotting(WB).The mechanism of the improving effects of SND on Rf was investigated based on TGF-β1/Smad signaling pathway.RESULTS:A total of 12 drug components of Fuzi(Radix Aconiti Lateralis Preparata),5 drug components of Ganjiang(Rhizoma Zingiber),and 9 drug components of Gancao(Radix Glycy et Rhizoma)were obtained from the database search,and 207 shared targets were found.A total of 1063 Rf targets were found in the database search.According to the Venn diagram,in total,96 intersection targets were found in two database searches.The metabolic pathways involved included TGF-β signaling pathway,phosphatidylinositol-3-kinase/serine-threonine protein kinase signaling(PI3K/Akt)pathway,and hypoxia-inducible factor-1(HIF-1)signaling pathway.Masson staining analysis showed that compared with the model group,the renal

Hydrothermally stable metal oxide-zeolite composite catalysts for low-temperature NO_(x) reduction with improved N_(2) selectivity

Development of hydrothermally stable,low-temperature catalysts for controlling nitrogen oxides emissions from mobile sources remains an urgent challenge.We have prepared a metal oxide-zeolite composite catalyst by depositing Mn active species on a mixture support of CeO_(2)/Al_(2)O_(3) and ZSM-5.This composite catalyst is hydrothermally stable and shows improved low-temperature SCR activity and significantly reduced N_(2)O formation than the corresponding metal oxide catalyst.Comparing with a Cu-CHA catalyst,the composite catalyst has a faster response to NH_(3) injection and less NH_(3) slip.Our characterization results reveal that such an oxide-zeolite composite catalyst contains more acidic sites and Mn^(3+)species as a result of oxide-zeolite interaction,and this interaction leads to the generation of more NH_(4)^(+)species bound to the Br?nsted acid sites and more reactive NOxspecies absorbed on the Mn sites.Herein,we report our mechanistic understanding of the oxide-zeolite composite catalyst and its molecular pathway for improving the low-temperature activity and N_(2) selectivity for NH_(3)-SCR reaction.Practically,this work may provide an alternative methodology for low-temperature NO_(x) control from diesel vehicles.

Combining biological denitrification and electricity generation in methane-powered microbial fuel cells

Methane has been demonstrated to be a feasible substrate for electricity generation in microbial fuel cells(MFCs)and denitrifying anaerobic methane oxidation(DAMO).However,these two processes were evaluated separately in previous studies and it has remained unknown whether methane is able to simultaneously drive these processes.Here we investigated the co-occurrence and performance of these two processes in the anodic chamber of MFCs.The results showed that methane successfully fueled both electrogenesis and denitrification.Importantly,the maximum nitrate removal rate was significantly enhanced from(1.4±0.8)to(18.4±1.2)mg N/(L·day)by an electrogenic process.In the presence of DAMO,the MFCs achieved a maximum voltage of 610 mV and a maximum power density of 143±12 mW/m^(2).Electrochemical analyses demonstrated that some redox substances(e.***.riboflavin)were likely involved in electrogenesis and also in the denitrification process.High-throughput sequencing indicated that the methanogen Methanobacterium,a close relative of Methanobacterium espanolae,catalyzed methane oxidation and cooperated with both exoelectrogens and denitrifiers(e.g.,Azoarcus).This work provides an effective strategy for improving DAMO in methane-powered MFCs,and suggests that methanogens and denitrifiers may jointly be able to provide an alternative to archaeal DAMO for methane-dependent denitrification.

Overexpression of low-density lipoprotein receptor prevents neurotoxic polarization of astrocytes via inhibiting NLRP3 inflammasome activation in experimental ischemic stroke

Neurotoxic astrocytes are a promising therapeutic target for the attenuation of cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury.Low-density lipoprotein receptor,a classic cholesterol regulatory receptor,has been found to inhibit NLR family pyrin domain containing protein 3(NLRP3)inflammasome activation in neurons following ischemic stroke and to suppress the activation of microglia and astrocytes in individuals with Alzheimer’s disease.However,little is known about the effects of low-density lipoprotein receptor on astrocytic activation in ischemic stroke.To address this issue in the present study,we examined the mechanisms by which low-density lipoprotein receptor regulates astrocytic polarization in ischemic stroke models.First,we examined low-density lipoprotein receptor expression in astrocytes via immunofluorescence staining and western blotting analysis.We observed significant downregulation of low-density lipoprotein receptor following middle cerebral artery occlusion reperfusion and oxygen-glucose deprivation/reoxygenation.Second,we induced the astrocyte-specific overexpression of low-density lipoprotein receptor using astrocyte-specific adeno-associated virus.Low-density lipoprotein receptor overexpression in astrocytes improved neurological outcomes in middle cerebral artery occlusion mice and reversed neurotoxic astrocytes to create a neuroprotective phenotype.Finally,we found that the overexpression of low-density lipoprotein receptor inhibited NLRP3 inflammasome activation in oxygen-glucose deprivation/reoxygenation injured astrocytes and that the addition of nigericin,an NLRP3 agonist,restored the neurotoxic astrocyte phenotype.These findings suggest that low-density lipoprotein receptor could inhibit the NLRP3-meidiated neurotoxic polarization of astrocytes and that increasing low-density lipoprotein receptor in astrocytes might represent a novel strategy for treating cerebral ischemic stroke.
