Characteristic Study of the Boundary Layer Parameters over the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal Using the QuikSCAT Dataset

The marine atmospheric boundary layer （MABL） plays a vital role in the transport of momentum and heat from the surface of the ocean into the atmosphere. A detailed study on the MABL characteristics was carried out using high-resolution surface-wind data as measured by the QuikSCAT （Quick scatterometer） satellite. Spatial variations in the surface wind, frictional velocity, roughness parameter and drag coefficient for the different seasons were studied. The surface wind was strong during the southwest monsoon season due to the modulation induced by the Low Level Jetstream. The drag coefficient was larger during this season, due to the strong winds and was lower during the winter months. The spatial variations in the frictional velocity over the seas was small during the post-monsoon season （-0.2 m s^-1）. The maximum spatial variation in the frictional velocity was found over the south Arabian Sea （0.3 to 0.5 m s^-1） during the southwest monsoon period, followed by the pre-monsoon over the Bay of Bengal （0.1 to 0.25 m s^-1）. The mean wind-stress curl during the winter was positive over the equatorial region, with a maximum value of 1.5×10^-7 N m^-3, but on either side of the equatorial belt, a negative wind-stress curl dominated. The area average of the frictional velocity and drag coefficient over the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal were also studied. The values of frictional velocity shows a variability that is similar to the intraseasonal oscillation （ISO） and this was confirmed via wavelet analysis. In the case of the drag coefficient, the prominent oscillations were ISO and quasi-biweekly mode （QBM）. The interrelationship between the drag coefficient and the frictional velocity with wind speed in both the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal was also studied.

An overview on AIEgen-decorated porphyrins:Current status and applications

One of the major obstacles of porphyrins is the aggregation-caused quenching(ACQ)of photoluminescence due to the strong intermolecularπ–πinteraction of the planar porphyrin core in the solid ***,ACQ leads to the nonradiative deactivation of the photoexcited states which results in short-lived charge-separated states and thus low photoluminescence and singlet quantum *** phenomenon would limit the utilization of porphyrins in near-infrared fluorescent bioimaging,photodynamic therapy,photocatalytic hydrogen evolution,electrochemiluminescence,and chiroptical ***,to address the ACQ property of porphyrins and enhance the performance of the above applications,a limited number of AIEgen-decorated porphyrins have been designed,synthesized,and tested for their *** has been found that the introduction of AIEgens,such as tetraphenylethylene,diphenylacrylonitrile,(3,6-bis-(1-methyl-4-vinylpyridinium)-carbazole diiodide,and iridium motif into the porphyrin core,transformed the porphyrins from ACQ to aggregation-induced emission(AIE)in their solid state due to the reduced strong intermolecularπ–πstacking of ***,such porphyrins containing AIE features are employed as potential candidates in the above-mentioned *** this review,we summarize the AIEgen-decorated porphyrins which have been published to date,and also discuss the benefits of converting porphyrins from ACQ to AIE for enhanced performance within each *** far as we know,there is no review that summarizes the structures and applications of AIEgen-decorated porphyrins to ***,we presume that this review would be helpful to design more efficient AIEgen-decorated porphyrins for a wide range of applications in the future.

Continuous segregation of binary heterogeneous solids in fluidized beds

Continuous segregation of a binary mixture of heterogeneous （different density） solids is carried out in a gas-solid fluidized bed. We investigate how gas velocity, solids feed rate, flotsam feed composition, bottom discharge pipe diameter, and minimum fluidization velocity ratio of the flotsam to jetsam parti- cles influence the solids holdup, separation factor, and product quality （flotsam purity at the top outlet）. The results are interpreted in terms of solids holdup information. The results indicate that the separation factor decreases when the gas velocity, bottom discharge pipe diameter, flotsam feed composition, or the minimum fluidization velocity ratio increase, while the separation factor increases as the solids feed rate increases. The product quality decreases when the gas velocity, solids feed rate, or minimum fluidization velocity ratio increase, while the product quality increases as the bottom discharge pipe diameter or flot- sam feed composition increase. Correlations for predicting the separation factor and product quality are proposed using a logistic model for individual flotsam feed compositions, which satisfactorily compares with the present experimental data.

The use of feld programmable gate array(FPGA)in direct torque control of induction motor

In this paper, the feasibility of embedding the direct torque control （DTC） of an induction machine into field programmable gate arrays （FPGA） is investigated. DTC of an induction machine is simulated in a MATLAB/Simulink environment using a Xilinx system generator. The resulting design has a flexible and modular structure where the designer can customize the hardware blocks by changing the number of inputs, outputs, and algorithm when it is compared to the designs implemented using classical microcontrollers and digital signal processors. With its flexibility, other control algorithms can easily be programmed and embedded into the FPGA. The above system has been implemented on Xilinx Spartan 3A DSP FPGA controller. Simulation and experimentation have been performed to prove the validity of the proposed methodology.

Relief from vascular occlusion using photothermal ablation of tlhrombus with a multimodal perspective

Fibrinolytic therapy for arterial or venous thrombotic disorders involves the systemic administration of thrombolytics such as streptokinase, which is associated with serious bleeding complications. With this study, we provide a proof-of-concept of photothermal thrombus ablation with gold nanorods exposed to near-infrared irradiation, both in vitro using materials generated from purified fibrinogen or plasma and in vivo in murine blood vessels. This is the first report of the application of photothermal therapy as an anti-thrombotic measure. Remarkably, the addition of streptokinase had a multimodal additive effect with regard to acceleration of photothermal lysis of thrombi even at a dose significantly below the therapeutic concentration, thus minimizing the life- threatening side effects and adverse complications. This combinatorial approach exhibits great promise for lysing pathological clots while effectively overcoming the drawbacks of existing therapies.

Electrodeposition of aluminium and aluminium-copper alloys from a room temperature ionic liquid electrolyte containing aluminium chloride and triethylamine hydrochloride

The electrodeposition of A1 and A1-Cu binary alloys on to gold substrates from a room temperature ionic liquid electrolyte containing A1C13-EtaNHC1 was studied. The electrochemical behavior of the electrolyte and the mechanism of deposition were investigated through cyclic voltammetry （CV）, and the properties of deposits obtained were assessed by scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy （SEM-EDS） and X-ray diffraction （XRD）. A1 of 70μm in thickness and an A1-Cu alloy of 30μm in thickness with 8at% copper were deposited from the electrolyte. SEM images of the deposits indicate that the A1 deposit was smooth and uniform, whereas the Al-Cu deposit was nodular. The average crystalline size, as determined by XRD patterns, was found to be （30±5） and （29±5） nm, respectively, for A1 and A1-Cu alloys. Potentiodynamic polarization （Tafel plots） and electrochemical impedance spectroscopic （EIS） measurements showed that Al-Cu alloys are more corrosion resistant than Al.

Synthesis and characterization of high ceramic yield polycarbosilane precursor for SiC

The polycarbosilane(PCS)precursor for SiC with high molecular weight and medium molecular weight distribution was synthesized from polydimethylsilane at normal *** chemical formula,the number average molecular weight,and the polydispersivity index of the synthesized PCS are SiC_(1.94)H_(5.01)O_(0.028),1135,and 1.66,respectively,which can be attributed to the higher reaction temperature used for *** polymer to ceramic conversion of PCS was completed at 900℃with a ceramic yield of 85%.The crystallization started at 1100℃,and at 1200℃,well resolved peaks ofβ-SiC were formed with small amount ofα-*** X-ray diffraction(XRD)and transmission electron microscopy(TEM)studies indicated the presence of nanocrystallineβ-SiC.

Green synthesis of biocompatible gold nanoparticles using Fagopyrum esculentum leaf extract

This report describes the use of ethnolic extract of Fagopyrum esculentum leaves for the synthesis of gold nanoparticles. UV-visible spectroscopy analysis indicated the successful formation of gold nanoparticles. The synthesized nanoparticles were characterized by transmission electron microscopy （TEM）, high resolution TEM （HRTEM） and were found to be spherical, hexagonal and triangular in shape with an average size of 8.3 nm. The crystalline nature of the gold nanoparticles was confirmed from *** diffraction （XRD） and selected-area electron diffraction （SAED） patterns. Fourier transform infrared （FT-IR） and *** X-ray analysis （EDX） suggested the presence of organic biomolecules on the surface of the gold nanoparticles. Cytotoxicity tests against human HeLa, MCF-7 and IMR-32 cancer cell lines revealed that the gold nanoparticles were non-toxic and thus have potential for use in various biomedical applications.
