Objective:To analyze the effects of feeding Helianthus tuberosus(HT) tubers on glucose tolerance and lipid profile in rats fed a high-fat diet(HFD). Methods:A normal HFD or HFD including 10 w/w% HT tubers(HFD + HT) was fed to F334/Jcl rats. After 10 weeks,organ weights,glucose tolerance,and lipid profile were analyzed. Results:The body weight,liver weight,and epidermal fat content in the HFD group were higher than those of the normal group,and similar to those of the HFD + HT group. The oral glucose tolerance test at 10 weeks revealed that the blood glucose level 30 minutes after beginning the test in the HFD + HT group was significantly lower than that in the HFD group. Liver triglyceride and total cholesterol levels in the HFD + HT group were significantly lower than those in the HFD group. Fecal triglyceride and total cholesterol levels in the HFD + HT group were higher than those in the HFD group. Histological analyses revealed that fat and glycogen accumulation increased in the HFD group,but decreased in the HFD + HT group. Conclusions:These results indicate that HT tubers have anti-fatty liver effects based on improvements in glucose tolerance and the hepatic lipid profile.

For several years now, electric vehicles (EVs) have been expected to become widely available in the micro-mobility field. However, the insufficiency of such vehicles’ battery-charging and discharging performance has limited their practical use. A hybrid energy storage system, which comprises a capacitor and battery, is a promising solution to this problem;however, to apply model-based designs, which are indispensable to embedded systems, such as the electronic control units used in EVs, a simple and accurate capacitor model is required. Within this framework, a lithium-ion capacitor (LIC) model is proposed, and its charging and discharging performances are evaluated against an actual LIC. The model corresponds accurately to the actual LIC, and the results indicate that the proposed LIC model will work well when used with Model-Based Design (MBD).

目的调查个旧地区居室内氡（^222Rn）、钍射气（^220Rn）及其子体水平，明确钍射气的剂量贡献。方法考虑住宅类型和地理分布因素，从个旧市郊某村选取建筑结构有代表性的50户住宅的主卧室，采用氡-钍射气鉴别探测器测量氡、钍射气浓度，用沉积率装置测量钍射气子体浓度。其中14间居室采用连续性氡测量探测器和α谱氡、钍射气鉴别探测器测量氡、钍射气浓度，空气采样滤膜结合CR-39探测器测量钍射气衰变产物浓度，碘化钠闪烁计数器测量地表γ剂量率。结果50间居室的氡浓度为32～498Bq／m^3，平均136Bq／m^3；钍射气浓度为39～7908Bq／m^3，平均3297Bq／m^3；钍射气子体浓度为2．0～23．9Bq／m^3，平均10．2Bq／m^3。钍射气子体衰变产物致居民年平均有效剂量大于氡子体衰变产物的平均年有效剂量（2．9mSv vs 1．6mSv）。结论个旧市郊部分居室室内钍射气及其子体浓度高，钍射气子体的剂量贡献要高于氡子体的剂量贡献。在个旧开展氡致肺癌危险评价研究应当考虑钍射气子体的剂量贡献。

AIM:To evaluate the association between genetic polymorphisms and angiotensin converting enzyme in-hibitor (ACEI)-related cough,and the race-or ethnicity-related difference in the prevalence of cough attributed to ACEI ***:We conducted a search in PubMed,EM-BASE,Cinahl,and the Cochrane Database without language limitation.A database of 11 studies on ACEI-related cough,with detailed information regarding ACE I/D or bradykinin B 2 receptor polymorphisms,was *** studies were synthesized using meta-analysis methods,including cumulative meta-analysis.A subgroup analysis was also performed using ***:Six studies were included on ACE I/D poly-morphism (398 Caucasians,723 East Asians),and three studies were included on bradykinin B 2 receptor poly-morphism (300 East Asians).The distribution of ACE genotypes showed significant differences in the entire population (P=0.004) and in East Asians (P=0.005)but not in Caucasians (P=0.23).Allelic frequencies of ACE showed significant differences in East Asians [odds ratio (OR)=1.49 (1.11-2.02)].The meta-analysis with a random effects model showed a significant associa-tion between ACE allele I/D and ACEI-related cough [random effects (RE) OR=1.49 (1.11-2.02),P=0.009] in East Asians,but not in Caucasians [RE OR=0.90 (0.60-1.35)].The allelic frequencies of the bradykinin B 2 receptor gene were significantly different [OR=2.25 (1.42-3.57)].The distributions of the T/C genotypes of the bradykinin B 2 receptor gene were significantly dif-ferent (χ 2=8.366,P=0.015).The meta-analyses re-vealed that there was a significant association between the bradykinin B 2 receptor allele and ACEI-related cough in East Asians [RE OR=2.29 (1.42-3.69),P=0.001].CONCLUSION:ACE I/D and Bradykinin B 2 receptor polymorphisms contributed to the risk of ACEI-related cough in East Asians,but a negative association be-tween ACE I/D polymorphism and ACEI-related cough was observed in Caucasians.

AIM: To examine the long term survival of geriatric patients treated with percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) in Japan. METHODS: We retrospectively included 46 Japanese community and tertiary hospitals to investigate 931 consecutive geriatric patients (≥ 65 years old) with swallowing difficulty and newly performed PEG between Jan 1st 2005 and Dec 31st 2008. We set death as an outcome and explored the associations among patient’s characteristics at PEG using log-rank tests and Cox proportional hazard models. RESULTS: Nine hundred and thirty one patients were followed up for a median of 468 d. A total of 502 deaths were observed (mortality 53%). However, 99%, 95%, 88%, 75% and 66% of 931 patients survived more than 7, 30, 60 d, a half year and one year, respectively. In addition, 50% and 25% of the patients survived 753 and 1647 d, respectively. Eight deaths were considered as PEG-related, and were associated with lower serum albumin levels (P = 0.002). On the other hand, among 28 surviving patients (6.5%), PEG was removed. In a multivariate hazard model, older age [hazard ratio (HR), 1.02; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.00-1.03; P = 0.009], higher C-reactive protein (HR, 1.04; 95% CI: 1.01-1.07; P = 0.005), and higher blood urea nitrogen (HR, 1.01; 95% CI: 1.00-1.02; P = 0.003) were significant poor prognostic factors, whereas higher albumin (HR, 0.67; 95% CI: 0.52-0.85; P = 0.001), female gender (HR, 0.60; 95% CI: 0.48-0.75; P < 0.001) and no previous history of ischemic heart disease (HR, 0.69; 95% CI: 0.54-0.88, P = 0.003) were markedly better prognostic factors. CONCLUSION: These results suggest that more than half of geriatric patients with PEG may survive longer than 2 years. The analysis elucidated prognostic factors.
