Two-dimensional （2D） layered materials, transition-metal dichalcogenides, and black phosphorus have attracted considerable interest from the viewpoints of fundamental physics and device applications. The establishment of new functionalities in anisotropic layered 2D materials is a challenging but rewarding frontier, owing to the remarkable optical properties of these materials and their prospects for new devices. Herein, we report the anisotropic and thickness- dependent optical properties of a 2D layered monochalcogenide of germanium sulfide （GeS）. Three Raman-scattering peaks corresponding to the B3g,, A1g, and A2g modes with a strong polarization dependence are demonstrated in the GeS flakes, which validates polarized Raman spectroscopy as an effective method for identifying the crystal orientation of anisotropic layered GeS. Photoluminescence （PL） is observed with a peak at -1.66 eV that originates from the direct optical transition in GeS at room temperature. The polarization-dependent characteristics of the PL, which are revealed for the first time, along with the demonstration of anisotropic absorption, indicate an obvious anisotropic optical transition near the band edge of GeS, which is supported by density functional theory calculations. The significantly thickness-dependent PL is observed and discussed. This anisotropic layered GeS presents opportunities for the discovery of new physical phenomena and will find applications that exploit its anisotropic properties, such as polarization-sensitive photodetectors.

Colon cancer arising from colonic diverticulum:A case report

BACkGROUND Colonic diverticulosis is a common disease, and the coexistence of colonic diverticulosis and colorectal cancer is often seen clinically. It is very rare that colon cancer arises from the mucosa of a colonic diverticulum. When colon cancer arises in a diverticulum and then tends to develop outside the wall, without developing within the lumen, the differential diagnosis from complicating lesions due to colonic diverticulitis is difficult. CASE SUMMARY A 76-year-old man was admitted to a nearby clinic with a chief complaint of discomfort and urinary frequency. Since a vesicosigmoidal fistula was seen on abdominal computed tomography, he was referred to our hospital. Laparoscopic sigmoidectomy was performed because the various diagnostic findings were diagnosed as a vesicosigmoidal fistula with diverticulitis of the sigmoid colon. However, on histopathological examination, it was diagnosed as a vesicosigmoidal fistula due to colon cancer arising in the diverticulum. Laparoscopic partial resection of the bladder was performed because local recurrence was observed in the bladder wall one and a half years after surgery. It is currently one year after reoperation, but there has been no recurrence or metastasis. CONCLUSION Colon cancer arising in a diverticulum of the colon should be considered when diverticulitis with complications is observed.

Efficacy of ripasudil in reducing intraocular pressure and medication score for ocular hypertension with inflammation and corticosteroid

·AIM:To investigate the efficacy of ripasudil,a Rho kinase inhibitor,in reducing intraocular pressure(IOP)and medication scores of anti-glaucoma drugs in patients with ocular hypertension with inflammation and corticosteroid.·METHODS:The study included 11 patients diagnosed with ocular hypertension with inflammation and corticosteroid,all of whom were prescribed ripasudil eye drops and followed up for at least 2y after the initiation of *** was measured using a non-contact tonometer before enrollment and at each follow-up *** medication score of glaucoma eye drops was calculated for each patient.·RESULTS:The mean IOP(26.4±2.9 mm Hg before treatment)significantly decreased after ripasudil therapy(13.7±3.3 mm Hg at 3mo)and remained stable in the low-teens during the 2-year follow-up period(P<0.0001).A significant decrease in the medication score was observed at 12mo or later after the initiation of ripasudil therapy(P<0.05).Both baseline medication scores and glaucomatous optic disc change rates were significantly higher in the five eyes that required glaucoma surgery during the 2-year observation period than the 10 eyes that did not require surgery.·CONCLUSION:Our results demonstrate the efficacy of ripasudil,in reducing IOP and the medication score over a 2-year treatment period in patients with ocular hypertension with inflammation and *** findings also suggest that ripasudil could reduce the IOP in uveitic glaucoma patients with both lower baseline medication score and lower glaucomatous optic disc change rate.

Relationship between Female Sexual Function and Depression or Anxiety in Japan

Background: Sexual dysfunction is sexual complaints or disorders. There are various causes, but the onset leads to deterioration of relationships and quality of life with partners. There is still a deep-rooted awareness that sexuality is a secret in Japan. Aim: This study aims to clarify the relationship between female sexual function and depression or anxiety. Method: Four hundred and fifty-eight Japanese healthy women who worked in four randomly selected medical institutions in Okinawa Prefecture in Japan from March to May 2012 were asked to agree to a consent form of their own free will and participate in self-reported questionnaires. For their evaluation, the Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI;Rosen et al. 2000, which includes the six domains of desire, arousal, lubrication, orgasm, pain, and satisfaction) and the kessler Psychological Distress Scale (k6;kessler, 2002, which includes the following six items: felt nervous, hopeless, restless or fidgety, worthless, depressed, and felt that everything was an effort) was used. Moreover, participants’ characteristics showed age, marriage, menopause, annual income, and drinking. In addition, JMP16.2 and R 4.2.0 was used to perform Pearson’s chi-square test, Fisher’s exact test, Mann-Whitney U test, kruskal-Wallis test, Steel-Dwass test, Spearman’s Rank-Order Correlation, and Cronbach’s alpha. This study was approved by the university and the medical institutional review board (IRB). Results: 178 women were included in the final analysis, and the median (IQR, interquartile range) was 39 (32 - 48) years old, and the mean ± SD (standard deviation) was 40.2 ± 10.4 years old. The median (IQR) and mean ± SD of FSFI Total Score were 22.0 (9.3 - 26.6) and 19.2 ± 9.6. The median (IQR) and the mean ± SD of k6 Total Score were 3 (0 - 7) and 4.2 ± 4.5. 16% of all women with a k6 Total Score of 10 and more, and 5% of all women with a k6 Total Score of 13 and more considered a serious mental illness. The present study was initiated to make an urban rural comparison of the prevalence of cases positive to hepatitis B and C virus (HBV and HCV, respectively) infection markers in densely populated eastern half of China. For this purpose, 10 survey sites were selected, i.e., six sites in urban areas (the city group; Beijing, Shanghai and four provincial capitals) and four sites in rural areas (the village group ; one village each in Jilin and Shandong Provinces, and two villages in Shaanxi Province). About 50 adult women per site volunteered to participate, from whom 494 valid blood samples were collected. Positivities to HBsAg (HBsAg +), anti HBs (anti HBs +) and anti HBc (anti HBc +) were examined by RIA methods, and that to anti HCV (anti HCV +) by either EIA or RIA. Those positive to any one of the three HBV infection markers were taken as HBV infection positive (HBV +). The prevalence of HBsAg +, HBV + and anti HBc + was 8%, 70% and 2.7% in the city group, and 8%, 65% and 2.0% in the village group, and no significant difference was found between the two groups. The overall prevalence was 8% for HBsAg +, 68% for HBV +, and 2.4% for anti HCV +. The results were discussed in reference to some 20 papers each on HBV + and anti HCV + prevalence in China published since 1991. The reviewing of these papers confirmed that the prevalence of HBV was high (i.e., in excess of 50%), whereas the prevalence of anti HCV was low (well below 5%), and that no substantial difference was found between the rural and urban populations.

AIM： To determine factors predictive for esophagea varices in severe alcoholic disease （SAD）. METHODS： Abdominal ultrasonography （US） was performed on 444 patients suffering from alcoholism. Forty-four patients found to have splenomegaly and/ or withering of the right liver lobe were defined as those with SAD. SAD patients were examined by upper gastrointestinal （UGI） endoscopy for the presence of esophageal varices. The existence of esophageal varices was then related to clinical variables. RESULTS： Twenty-five patients （56.8%） had esophageal varices. A univariate analysis revealed a significant difference in age and type Ⅳ collagen levels between patients with and without esophageal varices. A logistic regression analysis identified type Ⅳ collagen as the only independent variable predictive for esophageal varices （P = 0.017）. The area under the curve （AUC） for type Ⅳ collagen as determined by the receiver operating characteristic （ROC） for predicting esophageal varices was 0.78. CONCLUSION： This study suggests that the level of type Ⅳ collagen has a high diagnostic accuracy for the detection of esophageal varices in SAD.

The surface topography of a material can influence osteoclast ***,the surface structural factors that promote osteoclast activity have not yet been investigated in ***,we investigated osteoclastogenesis by testing various defined patterns with different dimensions and *** systematic patterns,made of a cyclo-olefin polymer,were prepared at a micron-,submicron-,and nano-scale with a groove,hole,or pillar shape with a 1:1 pitch ***264.7 cells were cultured on these patterns in the presence of the receptor activator of NF-κB ligand(RANkL).Osteoclast formation was induced in the order:pillar>groove≥*** two-dimensional factors also indicated that submicron-sized patterns strongly induced osteoclast *** optimal pillar dimension for osteoclast formation was 500 nm in diameter and 2μm in ***,we observed two types of characteristic actin structure,i.e.,belt-like structures with small hollow circles and isolated ring-like structures,which formed on or around the pillars depending on size and ***,resorption pits were observed mainly on the top of calcium phosphate-coated ***,osteoclasts prefer convex shapes,such as pillars for differentiation and *** results indicate that osteoclastogenesis can be controlled by designing surfaces with specific morphologies.
