Effect of Intertidal Elevation at Tsuyazaki Cove,Fukuoka,Japan on Survival Rate of Horseshoe Crab Tachypleus tridentatus Eggs

Physical factors affecting the survival of Tachypleus tridentatus eggs were investigated by translocating their eggs between the high intertidal zone and the low intertidal zone of a known spawning *** mean egg survival rates per day were highest in the mid intertidal zone(45.1%±25.4%)and the lowest in the low intertidal zone(13.3%±27.6%).Differences in the elevation,air exposure time,and water content of the spawning ground were significant factors determining the egg survival *** or insufficient air exposure time resulted in inadequate water content at higher and lower intertidal zones and could reduce egg *** the other hand,moderate saturation and dehydration were repeated with each tidal movement in the mid intertidal *** dynamic is considered as one of the crucial factors for the survival of eggs and is considered optimal for ***,the protection of the mid intertidal zone is imperative for maximizing the egg survival rate in Tsuyazaki Cove where almost all suitable nesting sites have disappeared due to coastal *** protecting these optimal sites for spawning and recovering other optimal sites on suitable beaches,a positive contribution can be made to future management and *** study also suggests that translocating eggs from marginal to optimal spawning sites might be a recovery strategy for this globally endangered species.

Displacement monitoring in open-pit mines is one of the important tasks for safe management of mining *** interferometric synthetic aperture radar(DInSAR),mounted on an artificial satellite,has the potential to be a cost-effective method for monitoring surface displacements over extensive areas,such as open-pit *** requires the ground surface elevation data in the process of its analysis as a digital elevation model(DEM).However,since the topography of the ground surface in open-pit mines changes largely due to excavations,measurement errors can occur due to insufficient information on the elevation of mining *** this paper,effect of different elevation models on the accuracy of the displacement monitoring results by DInSAR is investigated at a limestone *** addition,validity of the DInSAR results using an appropriate DEM is examined by comparing them with the results obtained by global positioning system(GPS)monitoring conducted for three years at the same limestone *** is found that the uncertainty of DEMs induces large errors in the displacement monitoring results if the baseline length of the satellites between the master and the slave data is longer than a few hundred *** the monitoring results of DInSAR and GPS,the root mean square error(RMSE)of the discrepancy between the two sets of results is less than 10 mm if an appropriate DEM,considering the excavation processes,is *** is proven that DInSAR can be applied for monitoring the displacements of mine slopes with centimeter-level accuracy.

Diagnostics of Rovibrational Distribution of H_2 in Low Temperature Plasmas by Fulcher-α band Spectroscopy - on the Reaction Rates and Transition Probabilities

A novel fitting procedure is proposed for a better determination of H2 rovibrational distribution from the Fulcher-α band spectroscopy. We have recalculated the transition probabilities and the results show that they deviate from Franck-Condon approximation especially for the non-diagonal transitions. We also calculated the complete sets of vibrationally resolved cross sections for electron impact d3Ⅱu-X3Σg transition based on the semi-classical Gryzinski theory. An example of experimental study confirms that current approach provides a tool for a better diagnostics of H2 rovibrational distribution in electronic ground state.

Three-Dimensional Rainbow Schlieren Measurements in Underexpanded Sonic Jets from Axisymmetric Convergent Nozzles

The rainbow schlieren deflectometry has been combined with the computed tomography to obtain three-dimensional density fields of shock containing free jets and we call the method the schlieren CT. Experiments on the schlieren CT have been performed at a nozzle pressure ratio of 4.0 by using an axisymmetric convergent nozzle with an inner diameter of 10 mm at the exit where the nozzle was operated at an underexpanded condition. Multidirectional rainbow schlieren pictures of an underexpanded sonic jet can be acquired by rotating the nozzle about its longitudinal axis in equal angular intervals and the three-dimensional density fields are reconstructed by the schlieren CT. The validity of the schlieren CT is verified by a comparison with the density fields reconstructed by the Abel inversion method. As a result, it is found that excellent quantitative agreement is reached between the three-dimensional jet density fields reconstructed from both methods.

Ice accretion is the phenomenon that super-cooled water droplets impinge and accrete on a body. It is well known that ice accretion on blades and airfoils leads to performance degradation and severe accidents. For this reason, experimental investigations have been carried out using flight tests or icing tunnels. However, it is too expensive, dangerous, and difficult to set actual icing conditions. Hence, computational fluid dynamics is useful to predict ice accretion. A rotor blade is one of jet engine components where ice accretes. Therefore, the authors focus on the ice accretion on a rotor blade in this study. Three-dimensional icing phenomena on the rotor blade of a commercial axial blower are computed here, and ice accretion on the rotor blade is numerically investigated.

Development of D_α band symmetrical visible optical diagnostic for boundary reconstruction on EAST tokamak

To investigate the potential of utilizing visible spectral imaging for controlling the plasma boundary shape during stable operation of plasma in future tokamak, a D_α band symmetric visible light diagnostic system was designed and implemented on the Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak(EAST). This system leverages two symmetric optics for joint plasma imaging. The optical system exhibits a spatial resolution less than 2 mm at the poloidal cross-section, distortion within the field of view below 10%, and relative illumination of 91%.The high-quality images obtained enable clear observation of both the plasma boundary position and the characteristics of components within the vacuum vessel. Following system calibration and coordinate transformation, the image coordinate boundary features are mapped to the tokamak coordinate system. Utilizing this system, the plasma boundary was reconstructed, and the resulting representation showed alignment with the EFIT(Equilibrium Fitting) results. This underscores the system's superior performance in boundary reconstruction applications and provides a diagnostic foundation for boundary shape control based on visible spectral imaging.

Coated boron layers by boronization and a real-time boron coating using an impurity powder dropper in the LHD

In the Large Helical Device(LHD),diborane(B2H6)is used as a standard boron source for boronization,which is assisted by helium glow *** 2019,a new Impurity Powder Dropper(IPD)system was installed and is under evaluation as a real-time wall conditioning *** the LHD,which is a large-sized heliotron device,an additional helium(He)glow discharge cleaning(GDC)after boronization was operated for a reduction in hydrogen recycling from the coated boron *** operational time of 3 h was determined by spectroscopic data during glow discharges.A flat hydrogen profile is obtained on the top surface of the coated boron on the specimen exposed to *** results suggest a reduction in hydrogen at the top surface by *** oxygen in coated boron was obtained by boronization,and the coated boron,which has boron-oxide,on the first wall by B-IPD was also *** the difference in coating areas between B2H6 boronization and B-IPD operation,it would be most effective to use the IPD and B2H6 boronization coating together for optimized wall conditioning.

BACKGROUND Interleukin-17(IL-17)inhibitors are known to cause exacerbation or new onset of inflammatory bowel disease upon ***,few reports have described characteristic endoscopic and histopathologic findings,and no small intestinal lesions have been reported so *** SUMMARY A woman in her 60s with psoriasis was administered ixekizumab(IXE),an anti-IL-17A antibody,for the treatment of *** months after commencing treatment,the patient visited our hospital because of persistent *** tests performed at the time of the visit revealed severe inflammation,and colonoscopy revealed multiple round ulcers throughout the colon.A tissue biopsy of the ulcer revealed infiltration of inflammatory cells and granuloma-like findings in the submucosal *** endoscopy revealed multiple jejunal *** the withdrawal of IXE,the symptoms gradually improved,and ulcer reduction and scarring of the colon were endoscopically *** To the best of our knowledge,17 reports have documented IL-17 inhibitorinduced entero-colitis with endoscopic images,endoscopic findings,and pathological characteristics,including the present *** of these cases showed diffuse loss of vascular pattern,coarse mucosa/ulcer formation in the left colon,and endoscopic findings similar to those of ulcerative *** the remaining eight cases,discontinuous erosions and ulcerations from the terminal ileum to the rectum were seen,with endoscopic findings similar to those of Crohn’s *** this case,the findings were confirmed by capsule endoscopy,which has not been previously reported.

Seed exudates influence the behavior of soil organisms,but howthis occurs remains unclear,particularly for multicellular *** we show that compounds associated with Arabidopsis seed-coat mucilage regulate the behavior of soil-borne animals,specifically root-knot nematodes (RKNs).Infective RKN J2 larvae actively travel toward Arabidopsis seeds through *** of Arabidopsis mucilage mutants demonstrated that the attraction of RKNs toArabidopsis seeds requires the synthesis and extrusion ***-coat *** mucilage alone is not sufficient to attract RKNs,but seed-surface carbohydrates and proteins are required for this *** findings suggest that the RKN chemoattractant is synthesized de novo upon mucilage extrusion but may be highly *** attracted by thismucilage-dependent mechanism can infect the emerging ***,the attraction signal from seedling roots likely acts independently of the seed-coat signal and may mask the attraction to seed-coat mucilage after *** RKN species are attracted byArabidopsis seeds,suggesting that this mechanism is conserved in *** findings indicate that seed exudate can regulate the behavior of multicellular animals and highlight the potential roles of seed-coat mucilage in biotic interactions with soil microorganisms.
