To optimize the leek peeling performance, a new nozzle has been developed in which the nozzle has a design Mach number of 1.68, an inner diameter of 2.0 mm at the throat, and an inner diameter of 2.3 mm at the exit. Experiments have been conducted over a range of nozzle pressure ratios from 3.0 to 6.0. Flow field issued from the new nozzle is quantitatively visualized by the rainbow schlieren deflectometry and compared with that from a conventional nozzle. Density fields in the free jets are reconstructed by the Abel inversion method for the schlieren images with the horizontal rainbow filter. The density values at the exit of the conventional nozzle obtained by the rainbow schlieren are compared with the analytical results by the flow model proposed in the past. In addition, Pitot probe surveys along the jet centerline were made to obtain the impact pressure distributions. The Mach number and velocity distributions along the jet centerline are obtained from a combination of the density and Pitot pressure data to clarify the fundamental flow structure of leek peeler nozzle jets.

An extremely rare case of pancreatic metastasis of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma

We report a rare case of a 68-year-old male with metachronous pancreatic metastasis that was resected2 years after salvage esophagectomy for local recurrence of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma(ESCC).Two years and 8 mo ago,he had undergone definitive chemoradiotherapy for the lower thoracic ESCC and achieved a complete *** used the protocol of the Japan Clinical Oncology Group trial *** 8 mo later,he developed a local recurrence of the ESCC and underwent thoracoscopic salvage esophagectomy followed by reconstruction with a conduit colon graft via a subcutaneous ***,a tumor of the pancreatic body was found on routine follow-up computed tomography(CT).The tumor diameter was 15 mm on CT,and the maximum standardized uptake value of the lesion was 5.49at 18F-2-fluoro-2-deoxy-D-glucose positron-emission tomography,strongly suggesting pancreatic *** addition,all tumor markers were within the reference ***,distal pancreatectomy was performed with the resultant histological diagnosis being confirmed as pancreatic metastasis of the *** was treated with adjuvant chemotherapy,and there has been no evidence of recurrence 9 mo after the *** of pancreatic metastasis offers a good prognosis and should be considered for solitary ESCC metastasis.

Membrane trafficking to the protein storage vacuole （PSV） is a specialized process in seed plants. However, this trafficking mechanism to PSV is poorly understood. Here, we show that three types of Beige and Chediak-Higashi （BEACH）-domain proteins contribute to both vacuolar protein transport and effector- triggered immunity （ETI）. We screened a green fluorescent seed （GFS） library of Arabidopsis mutants with defects in vesicle trafficking and isolated two allelic mutants gfs3 and gfs12 with a defect in seed pro- tein transport to PSV. The gene responsible for the mutant phenotype was found to encode a putative pro- tein belonging to group D of BEACH-domain proteins, which possess kinase domains. Disruption of other BEACH-encoding loci in the gfs12 mutant showed that BEACH homologs acted in a cascading manner for PSV trafficking. The epistatic genetic interactions observed among BEACH homologs were also found in the ETI responses of the gfs12 and gfs12 bchb-1 mutants, which showed elevated avirulent bacterial growth. The GFS12 kinase domain interacted specifically with the pleckstrin homology domain of BchCl. These results suggest that a cascade of multiple BEACH-domain proteins contributes to vacuolar protein transport and plant defense.

Epidemiological studies have indicated airborne particulate matter(PM) have significantly negative effects on human health, furthermore, toxicological studies were reported that DNA damage such as DNA strand break and oxidation of DNA base were induced by PM. It is widely accepted the method of Plasmid Scission Assay(PSA) to detect potential damage for cell-free DNA caused by PM suspension. The PSA is the in vitro method to evaluate strength of DNA damage caused by PM as index of TD20 or TD50(Toxic dosage of PM causing 20 or 50 % plasmid DNA damage) estimated by Dosage(concentration of PM suspension) – Response(DNA damage ratio) relationship. However, the index is not a convenient index because of its limitation of comparisons between different PM samples which were tested with different PM suspension concentrations and reaction time, furthermore, TD20 or TD50 can estimated as far as Dose-Response relationship. In this study, a new index based on the PSA method and the DoseResponse model in the field of radiobiology wad tested for the evaluation to the PM collected at southwestern Japan in March 2014. In this model, the potential of PM to damage DNA was decided by a parameter r, which was the damage ratio of DNA per unit Dose per time. Results showed the effectiveness of the index in evaluating the potential of PM to damage DNA and the convenience for comparison.

AIM To identify the clinical features of gastric mucosaassociated lymphoid tissue(MALT) lymphoma with extra copies of *** This is a multi-centered,retrospective study. We reviewed 146 patients with MALT lymphoma in the stomach who underwent fluorescence in situ hybridization analysis for t(11;18) translocation. Patients were subdivided into patients without t(11;18) translocation or extra copies of MALT1(Group A,n = 88),patients with t(11;18) translocation(Group B,n = 27),and patients with extra copies of MALT1(Group C,n = 31). The clinical background,treatment,and outcomes of each group were *** Groups A and C showed slight female predominance,whereas Group B showed slight male predominance. Mean ages and clinical stages at lymphoma diagnosis were not different between groups. Complete response was obtained in 61 patients in Group A(69.3%),22 in Group B(81.5%),and 21 in Group C(67.7%). Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) eradication alone resulted in complete remission in 44 patients in Group A and 13 in Group C. In Group B,14 patients underwent radiotherapy alone,which resulted in lymphoma disappearance. Although the difference was not statistically significant,event-free survival in Group C tended to be inferior to that in Group A(P = 0.10).CONCLUSION Patients with t(11;18) translocation should be treated differently from others. Patients with extra copies of MALT1 could be initially treated with H. pylori eradication,similar to patients without t(11;18) translocation or extra copies of MALT1.

Combined effects of centrifugal and coriolis instability of the flow through a rotating curved duct with rectangular cross section have been studied numerically by using a spectral method, and covering a wide range of the Taylor number ?for a constant Dean number. The rotation of the duct about the center of curvature is imposed in the positive direction, and the effects of rotation (Coriolis force) on the flow characteristics are investigated. As a result, multiple branches of asymmetric steady solutions with two-, three-and multi-vortex solutions are obtained. To investigate the non-linear behavior of the unsteady solutions, time evolution calculations as well as power spectrum of the unsteady solutions are performed, and it is found that the unsteady flow undergoes through various flow instabilities in the scenario “chaotic?→ multi-periodic?→ periodic?→ steady-state”, if Tr is increased in the positive direction. The present results show the characteristics of both the secondary flow and axial flow distribution in the flow.
