Temporal trends in 6-minute walking distance for older Japanese adults between 1998 and 2017

Significance of functional hepatic resection rate calculated using 3D CT/^(99m)Tc-galactosyl human serum albumin singlephoton emission computed tomography fusion imaging

AIm: To evaluate the usefulness of the functional hepatic resection rate (FHRR) calculated using 3D computed tomography (CT)/99mTc-galactosyl-human serum albumin (GSA) single-photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) fusion imaging for surgical decision ***: We enrolled 57 patients who underwent bi- or trisectionectomy at our institution between October 2013 and march 2015. Of these, 26 patients presented with hepatocellular carcinoma, 12 with hilar cholangiocarcinoma, six with intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma, four with liver metastasis, and nine with other diseases. All patients preoperatively underwent three-phase dynamic multidetector CT and 99mTc-GSA scintigraphy. We compared the parenchymal hepatic resection rate (PHRR) with the FHRR, which was defined as the resection volume counts per total liver volume counts on 3D CT/99mTc-GSA SPECT fusion ***: In total, 50 patients underwent bisectionectomy and seven underwent trisectionectomy. Biliary reconstruction was performed in 15 patients, including hepatopancreatoduodenectomy in two. FHRR and PHRR were 38.6 ± 19.9 and 44.5 ± 16.0, respectively; FHRR was strongly correlated with PHRR. There are many underground quarries for Oya tuff or the rhyolitic brecciate tuff, in Oya area, Utsunomiya City, Tochighi Prefecture, Japan. It is one of the most famous decorative rock materials for the buildings and the fences in Japan. The plan area of an example quarry has about 20,000m. Recently, the structural stability for these underground quarries should have been considered to redevelop the Oya area. It is one of the main vitalize sightseeing resources as underground space to be active this area again. Almost of them are abandoned quarries. Only some decades of underground quarries have been worked as Oya tuff quarry. It is difficult to decide the mechanical properties of Oya tuff because Oya tuff has the undecided characteristics. Because the main stratum structure randomly includes a lot of clay mineral grains. It is assumed that the undecided randomness follows the normal distribution. To consider the mechanical stability of an underground quarry, the authors are adopted at the linear stochastic finite element method in plane strain state. This stochastic finite element method is based on the asymptotic expansion method. It separates the empirical value into the expectation and the probability value. In this study, the authors assume that the elastic modulus, the cohesion and the internal friction angle of Oya tuff are probability values. It is assumed that the results of numerical analysis make sure the mechanical stability of the underground quarry, roughly. This study will become base information to secure the short term stability of underground quarry just after quarrying

Feasibility Study on Lifting of Seabed materials Using a Bubble-Jet-Type Air-Lift Pump

The present study is concerned with the lifting of seabed materials by a BJT （bubble-jet-type） air-lift pump patented by Sadatomi. The targets are methane-hydrate rich muds on the bed about 200 m in depth around Japan islands and rare-earth rich muds on the bed deeper than 4,000 m around minami-Torishima islands in the Pacific Ocean. Feasibility studies were conducted using 50 mm I. D. （inner diameter） and 5.0 m long vertical pipe as the pump upriser, VC （vinyl chloride） particles and natural sands mixture in the methane-hydrate case, and ceramics particles with 3,761 kg/m^3 in density in the rare-earth case as the deposits. From the methane-hydrate simulation experiments, an efficient operation condition with high VC particles to sands lifting ratio has been clarified. In the rare-earth case, the air supplies from two different midways in the upriser pipe have been tested together with the bottom supply because the air supply from the upriser bottom is very hard in deep sea. The effects of the air supply position on the pump performance have been clarified by the experiments and the simulations with a revised model applicable to the midway air supply type.
