The main objective of this paper is to study the mineralogical composition and the environmental conditions of the Subiyah clay to be used for crafting pottery and technological behaviour that allows the evaluation of the applicability of the clay deposits in manufacturing new ceramic products at Kuwait. This research could help artists, crafters of potters, and ceramic manufactures in Kuwait to depend on inland clay and this makes it easier for more production in ceramic and pottery in the future. All this could enhance the cultural of ceramic in teaching or producing it in Kuwaitfor the first time. For that purpose, six stations were selected at North-eastern part (Subiyah area) of Kuwait for clay investigation. X-ray Diffraction method (XRD) was led to identify mineralogical composition of samples;S1, S2, S3, S4A, S4B, and S6 were quartz, Calcite (Caco3), Dolomite, Illite and Clinochlore. Whereas;Quartz, Calcite Dolomite, Palygorskite, Nontronite and Clinochlore were recorded at S5 and S7. Clay mineralogical and environmental studies at our study area proved that, crafter can depend on Subiyah clay better than importing it from abroad.

Objective:To evaluate vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF)levels in hepatocellular carcinoma patients before and after transcatheter arterial chemoembolization(TACE)and percutaneous ethanol injection(PEI)and its relation to treatment ***:A total of 40 patients with unrespectable hepatocelluar carcinoma were assessed *** patients were suitable to be treated by TACE,while other 20patients were treated with *** VEGF levels were measured before and 1 month after each procedure by *** was assessed after 1 month according to Union Internationale Contre le Cancer evaluation criteria based on change in tumor size as measured by ***:There was no significant difference between TACE and PEI groups with regard to age,sex,tumor size,response to local therapy,or VEGF and alpha-fetoprotein before and after *** levels after TACE were significantly higher than before TACE[(298.1±123.6)pg/m L vs.(205.8±307.3)pg/m L;P=0.001].Also,VEGF levels were significantly higher after PEI than before PEI[(333.8±365.6)pg/m L vs.(245.3±301.8)pg/m L;P=0.000].Non-responders of both groups had significantly high VEGF levels than responder's,both before[(985.0±113.2)pg/m L vs.(117.1±75.3)pg/m L;P<0.001]and after therapy[(1 330.6±495.7)pg/m L vs.(171.0±94.7)pg/m L;P=0.000)].Conclusions:Both TACE and PEI were associated with an increase in serum VEGF in hepatocelluar carcinoma *** levels of VEGF before and after therapy were found in non-responders,suggesting that VEGF is a useful marker in predicting treatment response.

Background: Psoriasis is considered a common skin disease, marked by the production and elevation of inflammatory plaques that regularly shed scales resulting from extensive skin epithelial cell proliferation. T lymphocytes, neutrophils, and other leukocytes enter the irritated skin, resulting in epidermal keratinocyte hyperplasia, vascular hyperplasia, ectasia, and T lymphocyte, neutrophil other forms of leukocyte infiltration. Aim of the Work: the study aimed to investigate the role of IL-37 and VEGF gene expression in the pathogenesis of psoriasis in Egyptian patients. Methodology: Polymerase chain reaction techniques (PCR) were applied to detect VEGF in the skin homogenates of psoriasis patients. In addition, the ELIZA technique was applied to investigate IL-37 in skin homogenates. One hundred cases have been divided into two groups: 50 healthy volunteers as the group I healthy control;50 psoriasis patients as group II. PCR real-time technology was assessed through extracted DNA samples for VEGF amplification in skin homogenate. Result: Our results revealed that psoriasis patients significantly had a substantial reduction in IL-37 compared to the control group (p Conclusion: There is a significant inverse association between IL-37 and VEGF in psoriasis patients. Study findings revealed that IL-37 gene expression decreases while VEGF gene expression increases in psoriatic individuals. Such a measurement may be beneficial in determining the severity of the condition, as well as taking into consideration of the disease’s diagnosis.

The cancer incidence has risen dramatically over the last decades. About 8 million people died globally according to latest reports, which represented almost 40% more than it was 20 years ago. Risk factors for the development of cancer have been found to include smoking, alcohol, drugs, obesity and diet. Fiber intake has shown to exhibit chemoprotective effects on cancer proliferation and metastasis that may seem to be very promising. This article will review the role of different types of fiber such as, cellulose, lignin, pectin and inulin in development and prevention of different types of cancers. This article would also discuss the effectiveness of both types of fiber in cancer prevention.

Writing learning has a vital role in learning a foreign *** a result,the way teaching writing is approached is also of great ***,the role of context in teaching writing is of significance when it comes to public and private ***,the present study carried out to investigate the differences between second language(L2)writing teaching self-perceived beliefs(SPB)and self-perceived practices(SPP)of public and private English as a Foreign Language(EFL)***,a questionnaire about EFL teachers’beliefs and practices of teaching writing and type of university was launched on Google using Google ***,a group of universities teachers were sent the link of the questionnaire to fill it *** results indicated that there was no significant difference between the total scores of beliefs and practices of teachers in terms of L2 writing ***,there were significant differences between the majority of item scores of SPB and *** results also revealed that public and private teachers did not differ significantly in terms of their SPP and SPB total and item *** important implications of the findings for EFL teachers’beliefs and practices research and writing pedagogy are discussed.

The Geothermal Regime in Sirt Basin, Libya: The Geological Role and Heat Flow Studies

Bottom hole temperatures (BHTs) and static formation temperatures (DSTs) of 70 deep exploratory wells are used to evaluate the geothermal regime in the northeastern part of Sirt Basin. A linear regression was derived between the BHT’s and the DST’s, for correcting the bottom hole temperatures from the drilling factors that lower them from the true formation temperatures. The geothermal gradients were calculated using the corrected BHT’s and the heat flow has been estimated. Interpretation of the geothermal data, utilizing subsurface maps and isothermal geologic cross section, revealed a shallow, local semi-thermal reservoir of Oligo-Miocene age (at depths 1000 m). The geothermal gradients and heat flow values of this reservoir are ranging from 40 - >60°C/Km and from 80 up to >130 mW/m2, respectively. At deeper depths (>1000 m until the maximum depth of investigation), the area has more or less moderate to low geothermal gradients that range from 40 to 2. The study indicates that the vertical and the lateral variations of the formation temperatures, geothermal gradients and the heat flow values are controlled by the structural, groundwater movements as well as lithological and thermal characteristics of the subsurface sequence.

Objective:To study the chemical profile,antimicrobial properties,and synergistic effect with known antibiotics of essential oil extracted from the marine red macroalgae Centroceras clavulatum(***)Montagne,collected in ***:The chemical composition of the oil was analyzed by gas chromatography-mass *** oil was evaluated for antibacterial(Pseudomonas aeruginosa,Escherichia coli,Bacillus subtilis,Micrococcus luteus,Staphylococcus aureus,and Klebsiella pneumoniae),and antifungal activity(Candida albicans,Candida glabrata,Candida krusei,and Candida parapsilosis),by the disc diffusion *** minimum inhibitory and minimum microbicidal concentrations of the oil were determined,as well as the synergistic effects of its application combined with the antibiotics ciprofloxacin and fluconazole,by the checkerboard ***:Thirty molecules were identified in the essential oil,comprising 96.27%of the total oil *** such as carvacrol(36.06%)were the most abundant compounds,followed by caryophyllene(14.67%),endo-borneol(9.04%),pyroterebic acid(3.23%)and caryophyllene oxide(3.13%).The oil exhibited a moderate antimicrobial activity with inhibition zone diameters ranging from 9.0 to 15.0 *** minimum inhibitory concentration values varied between 0.9 and 14.7 mg/mL,and Bacillus subtilis and Escherichia coli were the more sensitive bacteria with 0.9 and 1.9 mg/mL,*** minimum microbicidal concentration values ranged from 0.4 to 14.7 mg/mL.A significant synergic action was observed when the oil was applied in combination with ciprofloxacin and fluconazole,with fractional inhibitory concentration index values ranging from 0.31 to *** was found in 80%of the combinations and a 2 to 16-fold reduction of antibiotics MIC was ***:Our findings suggest that the essential oil of Centroceras clavulatum should be further appraised for its potential use in the management of multi-drug resistant microo

Aim： To assess heine oxygenase-1 （HO-1） activity in the cavemous tissue of sildenafil citrate-treated rats. Methods： One hundred and ninety-two Sprague-Dawley male rats, divided into four equal groups, were investigated. Group 1, the control group, received regular animal chow; group 2 received sildenafil citrate by intragastric tube; group 3 received sildenafil and HO inhibitor （zinc protoporphyrin, ZnPP）; and group 4 received sildenafil and nitric oxide synthase （NOS） inhibitor L-nitroarginine methyl ester （L-NAME）. Twelve rats from each group were killed after 0.5 h, 1 h, 2 h and 3 h of drug administration. Then HO-1 activity, cGMP levels and NOS enzymatic activity in the cavernous tissues were estimated. Results： In cavemous tissue, HO-1 activity, NOS enzymatic activity and cGMP concentration increased significantly in sildenafil-treated rats compared to other groups throughout the experiment. Rats receiving either HO or NOS inhibitors showed a significant decrease in these parameters. HO- 1 cavemous tissue activity and NOS enzymatic activity demonstrated a positive significant correlation with cGMP levels （r = 0.646, r = 0.612 respectively; P 〈 0.001）. Conclusion： The actions of PDE5 inhibitor sildenafil citrate in the cavernous tissue are partly mediated through the interdependent relationship between both HO-1 and NOS activities.

Assessment of Insulin Resistance and Insulin Growth Factor-1 in Egyptian Patients with Chronic Hepatitis C

Introduction: Insulin resistance (IR) is documented in patients with chronic hepatitis C(CHC), plays an important factor in disease progression and predicting poor response to treatment. In chronic liver disease, levels of insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) were correlated with IR. Aim: To evaluate IR and serum levels of IGF-1 in Egyptian patients with CHC after anti-viral therapy. Patients and Methods: Forty biopsy-proven, non-diabetic, CHC patients, who received combined IFN/ribavirin therapy, in addition to 10 healthy controls were studied. Serum levels of IGF-1, growth hormone (GH) were measured and HOMA-IR(homeostasis model assessment of IR), body mass index (BMI) were calculated. Baseline data, retrieved from patients’ files before initiation of therapy, together with response to antiviral therapy were analyzed with respect to the measured variables. Results: All patients possessed a significant higher HOMA-IR score (p = 0.02), GH levels (p < 0.001) and blood glucose levels (p < 0.001) than controls while significantly lower levels of IGF-1 were found in patients (p = 0.008)with no significant difference between responders and non-responders as regards the previously mentioned variables. HOMA-IR score was significantly correlated with GH levels, p = 0.003 and with IGF-1 levels in both responders and non responders. Low IGF-1 levels were associated with increase in fibrosis stages and were significantly correlated with insulin(r = –0.499, p = 0.001). Conclusion: CHC patients exhibit an increased HOMA-IR score reflecting the existence of IR irrespective of treatment response. Low IGF-1 levels were associated with advanced stages of fibrosis and thus could contribute to the progression of hepatic fibrosis in CHC.
