Evapotranspiration from citrus trees growing in sandy soil under drip irrigation with saline water

An experiment on evapotranspiration from citrus trees under irrigation with saline waterwas carried out for 4 months. Two lysimeters planted with a citrus tree in the green house wereused. One lysimeter was irrigated with saline water (NaCl and CaCl2 of 2000 mg/L equivalence,EC = 3.8 dS/m, SAR = 5.9) and the other was irrigated with freshwater using drip irrigation. Theapplied irrigation water was 1.2 times that of the evapotranspiration on the previous *** was calculated as the change in lysimeter weight recorded every 30 *** lysimeters were filled with soil with 95.8% sand. The results of the experiment were as follows.(i) The evapotranspiration from citrus tree was reduced after irrigation with saline water. Theevapotranspiration returns to normal after leaching. However it takes months to exhaust the saltfrom the tree. ( ii ) To estimate the impact of irrigation with saline water on the evapotranspirationfrom citrus trees, the reduction coefficient due to salt stress (Ks) was used in this *** under irrigation with saline water (ETs) can be calculated from evapotranspira-tion under irrigation with freshwater (ET) by the equation ETs = Ks× ET. Ks can be expressed as afunction of ECsw. (iii) The critical soil-water electrical conductivity (ECsw) is 9.5 dS/m, beyondwhich adverse effects on evapotranspiration begin to appear. If ECsw can be controlled at below9.5 dS/m, saline water can be safely used for irrigation.

Modelling the preventive treatment under media impact on tuberculosis:A comparison in four regions of China

Preventive treatment for people with latent Tuberculosis infection(LTBI)has aroused our great *** this paper,we propose and analyze a novel mathematical model of TB considering preventive treatment with media *** basic reproduction number R_(0)is defined by the next generation matrix *** the case without media impact,we prove that the disease-free equilibrium is globally asymptotically stable(unstable)if R_(0)1).Furthermore,we obtain that a unique endemic equilibrium exists when R_(0)>1,which is globally asymptotically stable in the case of permanent immunity and no media *** fit the model to the newly reported TB cases data from 2009 to 2019 of four regions in China and estimate the *** we estimatedR_(0)=0.50131 in Henan,R_(0)=1.282>1 in Jiangxi andR_(0)=1.930>1 in Xinjiang imply that TB will continue to persist in these three regions without further prevention and control ***,sensitivity analysis is carried out to illustrate the role of model parameters for TB *** finding reveals that appropriately improving the rate of timely treatment for actively infected people and increasing the rate of individuals with LTBI seeking preventive treatment could achieve the goal of TB *** addition,another interesting finding shows that media impact can only reduce the number of active infections to a limited extent,but cannot change the prevalence of TB.

Enhancement of the thermoelectric performance of half-metallic full-Heusler Mn_(2)VAl alloys via antisite defect engineering and Si partial substitution

A half-metallic full-Heusler Mn_(2)VAl alloy is a potential p-type thermoelectric material that can directly generate electricity from waste heat via the Seebeck *** practical use,the Seebeck coefficient S of Mn_(2)VAl should be increased while maintaining a high electrical conductivity s from its half-metallic ***,we achieved this objective through antisite defect ***,it was predicted that the S was maximized by regulating partial density of states of majority-spin sp-electrons through the control of the fraction of antisite defect,f_(AD),between V and Al atoms in Mn_(2)***-mentally,a significant increase in S and a slight decrease in s were observed for an Mn_(2)VAl sample with an optimal fAD=33%,enhancing the thermoelectric power factor PF by 2.7 times from an Mn_(2)VAl sample with fAD=14%.Furthermore,we combined the antisite defect engineering with a partial substitution *** Mn_(2)V(Al_(0.96)Si_(0.04))sample with fAD=33%exhibited the highest PF=4.5×10^(-4)W·m^(-1)·K^(-2)at 767 K among the *** maximum dimensionless figure-of-merit zT of the Mn_(2)V(Al_(0.96)Si_(0.04))sample with f_(AD)=33%was measured to be 3.4×10^(-2)at 767 K,which is the highest among the p-type half-metallic full-Heusler alloys.

BACKGROUND Anterior cutaneous nerve entrapment syndrome(ACNES)is a condition mani-festing with pain caused by strangulation of the anterior cutaneous branch of the lower intercostal *** case report aims to provide new insight into the selection of peripheral nerve blocks for the ACNES *** SUMMARY A 66-year-old woman manifested ACNES after a robot-assisted distal *** ultrasound-guided rectal sheath block was effective for pain triggered by the port ***,the sudden severe pain,which radiated laterally from the previous site,remained.A transversus abdominis plane block was performed for the remaining pain and effectively relieved *** In this case,the trocar port was inserted between the rectus and transverse abdominis *** intercostal nerves might have been entrapped on both sides of the rectus and transversus abdominis ***,rectus sheath and transverse abdominis plane blocks were required to achieve complete pain *** the best of our knowledge,this is the first report on use of a combination of rectus sheath and transverse abdominis plane blocks for pain relief in ACNES.

Dependence of Lower Molding Temperature Limit and Molding Time on Molding Mechanism in Dental Thermoforming

Effectiveness and safety of a sports mouthguard depend on its thickness and material, and the thermoforming process affects these. The purpose of this study was to clarify the effects of differences in molding mechanisms on the lower molding temperature limit and molding time in dental thermoforming. Ethylene vinyl acetate resin mouthguard sheet and two thermoforming machines;vacuum blower molding machine and vacuum ejector/pressure molding machine were used. The molding pressures for suction molding were −0.018 MPa for vacuum blower molding and −0.090 MPa for vacuum ejector molding, and for pressure molding was set to 0.090 MPa or 0.450 MPa. Based on the manufacturer’s standard molding temperature of 95˚C, the molding temperature was lowered in 2.5˚C increments to determine the lower molding temperature limit at which no molding defects occurred. In order to investigate the difference in molding time depending on the molding mechanism, the duration of molding pressure was adjusted in each molding machine, and the molding time required to obtain a sample without molding defects was measured. The molding time of each molding machine were compared using one-way analysis of variance. The lower molding temperature limit was 90.0˚C for the vacuum blower machine, 77.5˚C for the vacuum ejector machine, 77.5˚C for the pressure molding machine at 0.090 MPa, and 67.5˚C for the pressure molding machine at 0.45 MPa. The lower molding temperature limit was higher for lower absolute values of molding pressure. The molding time was shorter for pressure molding than for suction molding. Significant differences were observed between all conditions except between the pressure molding machine at 0.090 MPa and 0.45 MPa (P < 0.01). A comparison of the differences in lower molding temperature limit and molding time due to molding mechanisms in dental thermoforming revealed that the lower molding temperature limit depends on the molding pressure and that the molding time is longer for suc

Clinical studies have shown that Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans(***)is associated with aggressive periodontitis and can potentially trigger or exacerbate rheumatoid arthritis(RA).However,the mechanism is poorly ***,we show that systemic infection with *** triggers the progression of arthritis in mice anti-collagen antibody-induced arthritis(CAIA)model following IL-1βsecretion and cell infiltration in paws in a manner that is dependent on caspase-11-mediated inflammasome activation in *** administration of polymyxin B(PMB),chloroquine,and anti-CD11b antibody suppressed inflammasome activation in macrophages and arthritis in mice,suggesting that the recognition of lipopolysaccharide(LPS)in the cytosol after bacterial degradation by lysosomes and invasion via CD11b are needed to trigger arthritis following inflammasome activation in *** data reveal that the inhibition of caspase-11-mediated inflammasome activation potentiates aggravation of RA induced by infection with *** work highlights how RA can be progressed by inflammasome activation as a result of periodontitis-associated bacterial infection and discusses the mechanism of inflammasome activation in response to infection with ***.

Management of gastric and duodenal neuroendocrine tumors

Gastrointestinal neuroendocrine tumors (GI-NETs) are rare neoplasms, like all NETs. However, the incidence of GI-NETS has been increasing in recent years. Gastric NETs (G-NETs) and duodenal NETs (D-NETs) are the common types of upper GI-NETs based on tumor location. G-NETs are classified into three distinct subgroups: type I, II, and III. Type I G-NETs, which are the most common subtype (70%-80% of all G-NETs), are associated with chronic atrophic gastritis, including autoimmune gastritis and Helicobacter pylori associated atrophic gastritis. Type II G-NETs (5%-6%) are associated with multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome (MEN1-ZES). Both type I and II G-NETs are related to hypergastrinemia, are small in size, occur in multiple numbers, and are generally benign. In contrast, type III G-NETs (10%-15%) are not associated with hypergastrinemia, are large-sized single tumors, and are usually malignant. Therefore, surgical resection and chemotherapy are generally necessary for type III G-NETs, while endoscopic resection and follow-up, which are acceptable for the treatment of most type I and II G-NETs, are only acceptable for small and well differentiated type III G-NETs. D-NETs include gastrinomas (50%-60%), somatostatin-producing tumors (15%), nonfunctional serotonin-containing tumors (20%), poorly differentiated neuroendocrine carcinomas (< 3%), and gangliocytic paragangliomas (< 2%). Most D-NETs are located in the first or second part of the duodenum, with 20% occurring in the periampullary region. Therapy for D-NETs is based on tumor size, location, histological grade, stage, and tumor type. While endoscopic resection may be considered for small nonfunctional D-NETs (G1) located in the higher papilla region, surgical resection is necessary for most other D-NETs. However, there is no consensus regarding the ideal treatment of D-NETs.

Esophageal diverticulum: New perspectives in the era of minimally invasive endoscopic treatment

Esophageal diverticula are rare conditions that cause esophageal symptoms, such as dysphagia, regurgitation, and chest pain. They are classified according to their location and characteristic pathophysiology into three types: epiphrenic diverticulum, Zenker's diverticulum, and Rokitansky diverticulum. The former two disorders take the form of protrusions, and symptomatic cases require interventional treatment. However, the esophageal anatomy presents distinct challenges to surgical resection of the diverticulum, particularly when it is located closer to the oral orifice. Since the condition itself is not malignant,minimally invasive endoscopic approaches have been developed with a focus on alleviation of symptoms. Several types of endoscopic devices and techniques are currently employed, including peroral endoscopic myotomy(POEM). However,the use of minimally invasive endoscopic approaches, like POEM, has allowed the development of new disorder called iatrogenic esophageal diverticula. In this paper, we review the pathophysiology of each type of diverticulum and the current state-of-the-art treatment based on our experience.

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)is a major cause of liver disease around the *** includes a spectrum of conditions from simple steatosis to non-alcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH)and can lead to fibrosis,cirrhosis,liver failure,and/or hepatocellular *** is also associated with other medical conditions such as obesity,diabetes mellitus(DM),metabolic syn-drome,hypertension,insulin resistance,hyperlipidemia,and cardiovascular disease(CVD).In diabetes,chronic hyperglycemia contributes to the development of both macro-and microvascular conditions through a variety of metabolic ***,it can cause a variety of metabolic and hemodynamic conditions,including upregulated advanced glycation end-products(AGEs)*** our previous study,the most abundant type of toxic AGEs(TAGE);i.e.,glyceraldehyde-derived AGEs,were found to make a significant contribution to the pathogenesis of DM-induced ***,accumulating evidence suggests that the binding of TAGE with their receptor(RAGE)induces oxidative damage,promotes inflammation,and causes changes in intracellular signaling and the expression levels of certain genes in various cell populations including hepatocytes and hepatic stellate *** of these effects could facilitate the pathogenesis of hypertension,cancer,diabetic vascular complications,CVD,dementia,and ***,inhibiting TAGE synthesis,preventing TAGE from binding to RAGE,and downregulating RAGE expression and/or the expression of associated effector molecules all have potential as therapeutic strategies against ***,we examine the contributions of RAGE and TAGE to various conditions and novel treatments that target them in order to prevent the development and/or progression of NASH.

Biology and treatment of cervical adenocarcinoma

Uterine cervical adenocarcinoma （ADC） has been increasing in its prevalence world widely despite the decrease of squamous cell carcinoma （SCC）. It comprises nearly 20-25% of the all cervical malignancy in developed countries. The worse biological behavior had been reported in patients with intermediateand high risk factors after surgery, and in advanced stage over III, radiotherapy （RT） alone and concurrent chemo-radiotherapy （CCRT） with cisplatin was not always effective. As for chemotherapy （CT）, the iaduction CT has not established, as well. Further molecular targeted therapy （MTT） has been studied. The targets of oncogenic driver mutations were vascular endothelial growth factor （VEGF） in SCC, or tyrosine kinase （TK） of endothelial growth factor receptor 2 （EGFR2, Her2/neu）-Ras-MAPK-ERK pathway. Bevacizumab （Bey, anti-VEGF monoclonal antibody） is considered as one of key agent with paclitaxel and carboplatin in SCC, but not for ADC. This article focuses on up-to-date knowledge of biology and possible specific therapeutic directions to explore in the management of cervical ADC.
