Leaf Positioning of Arabidopsis in Response to Blue Light

Appropriate leaf positioning is essential for optimizing photosynthesis and plant growth. However, it has not been elucidated how green leaves reach and maintain their position for capturing light. We show here the regulation of leaf positioning under blue light stimuli. When 1-week-old Arabidopsis seedlings grown under white light were transferred to red light （25 i, mol m^-2 s^-1） for 5 d, new petioles that appeared were almost horizontal and their leaves were curled and slanted downward. However, when a weak blue light from above （0.1 i, mol m^-2 s^-1） was superimposed on red light, the new petioles grew obliquely upward and the leaves were flat and horizontal. The leaf positioning required both phototropinl （photl） and nonphototropic hypocotyl 3 （NPH3）, and resulted in enhanced plant growth. In an nph3 mutant, neither optimal leaf positioning nor leaf flattening by blue light was found, and blue light-induced growth enhancement was drastically reduced. When blue light was increased from 0.1 to 5 i, mol m^-2 s^-1, normal leaf positioning and leaf flattening were induced in both photl and nph3 mutants, suggesting that phot2 signaling became functional and that the signaling was independent of photl and NPH3 in these responses. When plants were irradiated with blue light （0.1 i, mol m^-2 s^- 1） from the side and red light from above, the new leaves became oriented toward the source of blue light. When we transferred these plants to both blue light and red light from above, the leaf surface changed its orientation to the new blue light source within a few hours, whereas the petioles initially were unchanged but then gradually rotated, suggesting the plasticity of leaf positioning in response to blue light. We showed the tissue expression of NPH3 and its plasma membrane localization via the coiled-coil domain and the C-terminal region. Blue-light-induced rapid chloroplast de-anchoring in Vallisneria epidermal cells

In the outer periclinal cytoplasm of leaf epidermal cells of an aquatic angiosperm Vallisneria, blue light induces ＂chloroplast de-anchoring＂, a rapid decline in the resistance of chloroplasts against centrifugal force. Chloroplast de- anchoring is known induced within lmin of irradiation with high-fluence-rate blue light specifically, preceding the com- mencement of chloroplasts migration toward the anticlinal cytoplasm. However, its regulatory mechanism has remained elusive, although pharmacological analysis suggested that a calcium release from intracellular calcium stores is necessary for the response, in search of the responsible photoreceptors, immunoblotting analysis using antibodies against phototropins demonstrated that cross-reactive polypeptides of 120-kDa exist in the plasma-membrane fraction prepared from the leaves. In vitro phosphorylation analysis revealed that 120-kDa polypeptides were phosphorylated by exposure to blue light in a fluence-dependent manner. The blue-light-induced phosphorylation activity was sensitive to a Ser/Thr kinase inhibitor, staurosporine, and unusually was retained at a high level for a long time in darkness. Furthermore, phototropin gene homologs （Vallisneria PHOTOTROPINI and PHOTOTROPIN2） expressed in leaves were isolated. We propose that calcium- regulated chloroplast de-anchoring, possibly mediated by phototropins, is an initial process of the blue-light-induced avoidance response of chloroplasts in Vallisneria.

Mg-Y-Zn-Al alloys processed by rapidly solidified ribbon consolidation(RSRC)technique exhibit an exceptional mechanical performance indicating promising application *** material has a bimodal microstructure consisting of fine recrystallized and coarse non-recrystallized grains with solute-rich stacking faults forming cluster arranged layers(CALs)and nanoplates(CANaPs),or complete long period stacking ordered(LPSO)*** order to reveal the deformation mechanisms,in-situ synchrotron X-ray diffraction line profile analysis was employed for a detailed study of the dislocation arrangement created during tension in Mg-0.9%Zn-2.05%Y-0.15%Al(at%)*** uncovering the effect of the initial microstructure on the mechanical performance,additional samples were obtained by annealing of the as-consolidated specimen at 300 and 400℃ for 2 *** heat treatment at 300℃ had no significant effect on the initial microstructure,its evolution during tension and,thus,the overall deformation behavior under tensile *** the other hand,annealing at 400℃ resulted in a significant increase of the recrystallized grains fraction and a decrease of the dislocation density,leading to only minor degradation of the mechanical *** maximum dislocation density at the failure of the samples corresponding to the plastic strain of 10-25% was estimated to be about 16-20×10^(14)m^(-2).The diffraction profile analysis indicated that most dislocations formed during tension were of non-basal and pyramidal types,what was also in agreement with the Schmid factor values revealed independently from orientation *** was also shown that the dislocation-induced Taylor hardening was much lower below the plastic strain of 3% than above this value,which was explained by a model of the interaction between prismatic dislocations and CANaPs/LPSO plates.

Potential significance of CX3CR1 dynamics in stress resilience against neuronal disorders

Recent findings have implicated inflammatory responses in the central nervous system in a variety of neuropsychiatric and neurodegenerative diseases,and the understanding and control of immunological responses could be a major factor of future therapeutic strategies for neurological ***,derived from myelogenous cells,respond to a number of stimuli and make immune responses,resulting in a prominent role as cells that act on inflammation in the central nervous ***(FKN or CX3CL1)signaling is an important factor that influences the inflammatory response of *** receptor for FKN,CX3CR1,is usually expressed in microglia in the brain,and therefore the inflammatory response of microglia is modified by ***,FKN often suppresses inflammatory responses in microglia and activation of its receptor may be effective in the treatment of inflammatory neurological ***,it has also been suggested that inflammatory responses facilitated by FKN signaling aggravate neurological ***,further studies are still required to resolve the conflicting interpretation of the protective or deleterious contribution of microglial FKN *** notably,regulation of FKN signaling has recently been shown to be beneficial in the treatment of human diseases,although not neurological *** addition,a CX3CR1 inhibitor has been developed and successfully tested in animal models,and it is expected to be in human clinical trials in the *** this review,I describe the potential therapeutic consideration of microglial CX3CR1 dynamics through altered FKN signaling.

Effects of indole-3-butyric acid and age of stem cuttings on root morphology,growth,and survival of Cornus sericea

Red osier dogwood(Cornus sericea L.),widely distributed throughout North America,is essential for wildlife,thus *** is recommended for reclamation or revegetation of sites disturbed by oil and gas extraction because it tolerates a wide range of soil types and high pH *** germination of this species is extremely difficult with long stratification requirements and poor germination,cuttings facilitate *** this study,to develop techniques to propagate the species from stem cuttings,four concentrations of indole-3-butyric acid(IBA)and two cutting ages previous year’s growth(PYG)and current year’s growth(CYG)were investigated for survival and *** 4 months,survival rate,height growth,and shoot biomass from PYG cuttings were enhanced with IB *** contrast,IB A did not affect these parameters in CYG *** morphology was significantly affected by IB A concentration and cutting ***,at higher concentrations,increased root surface and *** root surface area and length of PYG cuttings were increased,which may facilitate the absorption of essential resources and consequently increase *** results indicate that increasing the concentration of IB A may be an effective way to have better plant survival and growth of previous year’s cuttings in red osier dogwood.

本文从经济视角考察日本的方言景观。方言景观指的是对方言的景观利用,可以分为“可购方言”和“不可购方言”。前者包括方言纪念品,如标注方言的明信片、毛巾、手机链和徽章;后者包括方言命名和方言信息,自20世纪末以来通过商业区、购物中心和公共设施等的命名得到推广,并具有营造亲切感的功能。随着方言的逐步衰退,方言的社会形象也发生了变化,从原来的“根除”转变为现在的“描述”以及娱乐性利用等。进入21世纪20年代以后,方言景观出现了减少的倾向,这可能源于2011年的东日本大地震和2019年开始的新冠疫情。本文基于过去几十年收集的多元化方言景观数据,分析方言活力的持续性问题并在理论上进行总结。
