AIM To investigate th. influence of interferon-free antivirus th.rapy on lipid profiles in ch.onic h.patitis C virus genotype 1b(h.V1b) *** Interferon-free antiviral agents were used to treat 276 patients with.ch.onic h.V1 b infection, and ch.nges in serum lipids of th.se wh. ach.eved sustained virologic response(SVR) were examined. Th. treatment regimen included 24 wk of daclatasvir plus asunaprevir(DCV + ASV) or 12 wk of sofosbuvir plus ledipasvir(SOF + LDV). SVR was ach.eved in 121(85.8%) of 141 patients treated with.DCV + ASV and 132(97.8%) of 135 patients treated with.SOF + LDV. In th. two patient groups(DCV + ASV-SVR and SOF + LDV-SVR), serum total ch.lesterol(TC), low-density lipoprotein ch.lesterol(LDL-C), h.gh.density lipoprotein ch.lesterol(h.L-C), and triglycerides were measured at baseline during treatment and at 4 and 12 wk after treatment. Th.n, longitudinal ch.nges in lipid profiles were *** Serum levels of TC, LDL-C, and h.L-C were significantly increased th.ough.ut th. observation period in both.th. DCV + ASV-SVR and SOF + LDV-SVR groups. During antivirus treatment, th. increases in TC and LDL-C were significantly greater in th. SOF + LDVSVR group th.n in th. In multiple regression analysis, th. difference in th.rapy protocol(DCA + ASV or SOF + LDV) was an independent predictor th.t was significantly associated with.th. increase in TC and LDL-C at 4 wk of *** Serum ch.lesterol significantly increased during SOF + LDV treatment. After treatment, h.V elimination was associated with.a similar increase in ch.lesterol regardless of th. th.rapy protocol.

AIM To evaluate th. performance of 18-fluoro-2-deoxyglucose positron emission tomograph.(FDG-PET) for esoph.geal cancer(EC) *** We retrospectively analyzed th. data of consecutive asymptomatic individuals wh. underwent FDG-PET and esoph.gogastroduodenoscopy(EGD) simultaneously for cancer screening at our institution from February 2004 to March.2013. In total, 14790 FDG-PET and EGD procedures performed for 8468 individuals were included in th.s study, and th. performance of FDGPET for EC screening was assessed by comparing th. results of FDG-PET and EGD, considering th. latter as th. *** Th.rty-two EC lesions were detected in 28 individuals(31 squamous cell carcinomas and 1 adenocarcinoma). Th. median tumor size was 12.5 mm, and th. depth. of th. lesions were as follows: Tis(n = 12), T1a(n = 15), and T1b(n = 5). Among th. 14790 FDG-PET procedures, 51 examinations(0.3%) sh.wed positive findings in th. esoph.gus; only 1 was a true-positive finding. Th. screen sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value of FDGPET for ECs were 3.6%(95%CI: 0.1-18.3), 99.7%(95%CI: 99.6-99.7), 2.0%(95%CI: 0.0-10.4), and 99.8%(95%CI: 99.7-99.9), respectively. Of th. 50 FDG-PET false-positive cases, 31 were observed in th. lower esoph.gus, and gastroesoph.geal reflux disease was observed in 17 of th.se 31 *** Th.s study is th. first to clarify th. FDG-PET performance for EC screening. Based on th. low screen sensitivity, FDG-PET is considered to be difficult to use as a screening modality for ECs.

To investigate th. h.poth.sis th.t treatment with.dimeth.l fumarate (DMF) may ameliorate liver isch.mia/reperfusion injury (I/RI). METh.DSRats were divided into 3 groups: sh.m, control (CTL), and DMF. DMF (25 mg/kg, twice/d) was orally administered for 2 d before th. procedure. Th. CTL and DMF rats were subjected to isch.mia for 1 h.and reperfusion for 2 h. Th. serum alanine aminotransferase (ALT) and malondialdeh.de (MDA) levels, adenosine triph.sph.te (ATP), NO × metabolites, anti-oxidant enzyme expression level, anti-inflammatory effect, and anti-apoptotic effect were determined. RESULTSh.stological tissue damage was significantly reduced in th. DMF group (Suzuki scores: sh.m: 0 ± 0; CTL: 9.3 ± 0.5; DMF: 2.5 ± 1.2; sh.m vs CTL, P h.s effect was associated with.significantly lower serum ALT (DMF 5026 ± 2305 U/L vs CTL 10592 ± 1152 U/L, P = 0.04) and MDA (DMF 18.2 ± 1.4 μmol/L vs CTL 26.0 ± 1.0 μmol/L, P = 0.0009). DMF effectively improved th. ATP content (DMF 20.3 ± 0.4 nmol/mg vs CTL 18.3 ± 0.6 nmol/mg, P = 0.02), myeloperoxidase activity (DMF 7.8 ± 0.4 mU/mL vs CTL 6.0 ± 0.5 mU/mL, P = 0.01) and level of endoth.lial nitric oxide synth.se expression (DMF 0.38 ± 0.05-fold vs 0.17 ± 0.06-fold, P = 0.02). Th. h.gh.r expression levels of anti-oxidant enzymes (catalase and glutamate-cysteine ligase modifier subunit and lower levels of key inflammatory mediators (nuclear factor-kappa B and cyclooxygenase-2 were confirmed in th. DMF group. CONCLUSIONDMF improved th. liver function and th. anti-oxidant and inflammation status following I/RI. Treatment with.DMF could be a promising strategy in patients with.liver I/RI.
