Utilize small size of bolti and sardine fish in preparing fish based weaning foods rich in protein, essential amino acids, fat high in omega 3 fatty acids, minerals and vitamins was investigated. The proximate composition, nutritional value, physical and sensorial properties were evaluated, The results of the chemical composition showed that the moisture content of fish based weaning food purees ranged from 67.73% to 72.05%. On dry weight basis, the five prepared formulations considered rich in protein (37.39% - 44.86%), fat (26.55% - 30.43%), ash (6.53% - 12.23%) and low in carbohydrates (20.70% - 22.18%). Using fish bones with muscles in preparing weaning food puree caused a marked rise in its content of Ca, P, Fe, and Zn levels especially in purees formulated from bolti. Weaning food purees containing sardine fish rich, in fat, were higher in vitamin A and D than those formulated from bolti one. Palmitic acid (C16:0), stearic acid (C18:0), and myristic acid (C14:0) represented the major saturated fatty acids in the prepared formulations. Weaning food purees containing sardine fish had relatively higher levels of sulfur-containing amino acids and slight lower values of lysine, alanine and glycine than these including bolti fish. Kuwait fish market is one of the richest markets of native marine fish species. Sea catfishes are not very important in economic point of view, and only few of them (four species) are present and mistakenly, they all named (Chem). Using DNA barcode technique, the common sea catfish present in the East major fish market (Sharq) was analyzed. Based on the most common species ID databases (Barcoding of life database, BOLD and NCBI database), the most proposal identification that is compatible with major survey in 1997, the sea catfish is Plicofollis tenuispinis, the thin-spin sea catfish with similarity 100% and phylogenetic support of 78% bootstrap value. This is the first application of DNA barcode technique to thin-spine sea catfish of Kuwait.

Background: Diagnosis of iron deficiency anemia with currently available tests is rendered difficult in hemodialysis patients. The aim: To investigate the role of reticulocyte Hemoglobin Content (CHr) in the diagnosis of iron deficiency anemia in hemodialysis children in comparison to the used traditional markers and assess the impressiveness and the utility of Neutrophil Gelatinase Associated Lipocalin (NGAL) as a novel biomarker of iron status in those patients. Methods: This study investigated CHr in addition to NGAL serum level in the same line with traditional markers for anemia, including: CBC, serum iron, ferritin, total iron-binding capacity (TIBC), and transferrin saturation (TSAT%). Results: It is more significant that CHr content in hemodialysis children is lower than their controls as they are (27.06 ± 2.90) pg and (32.86 ± 3.59) pg, respectively, p = 0.01. There is no significant difference regarding NGAL between the study groups. Significant negative correlation between CHr with ferritin, urea, creatinine, and positively correlated with iron and RBCS. CHr showed a sensitivity of 90% and specificity of 86.67% to detect iron-deficiency anemia with a cut-off value of 27 pg. Conclusion: CHr is superior to ferritin and TSAT % for the early diagnosis of iron deficiency anemia in hemodialysis children;our results do not support NGAL as a marker of anemia in hemodialysis patients.

This paper reports the kinetics of the oxidation of 2,6-dimethylphenol (DMP) to get 3,3’,5,5’-tetra- methyl-4,4’-diphenoquinone (DPQ) using novel oxidative coupling complexes [(Pip)4nCu4X4-(CO3)2] (n = 1 or 2, X = Cl or Br, Pip = piperidine). The new prepared tetranuclear complexes were characterized using cryoscopic measurements, electronic spectra, FTIR, EPR and cyclic voltammetry techniques. These complexes are catalytically active. The proposed mechanism of the catalytic oxidative coupling can be illustrated as a pre-equilibrium, K, between the catalyst and DMP to form a complex intermediate which is converted to activated complex through the rate determining step, k2, to form the final product. The inverse of the observed rate constants kobsd versus 1/[DMP]2 gives a straight line with intercept. From the slope and the intercept, both K and k2 are obtained. At different temperatures, thermodynamic and kinetic parameters are evaluated. It is worth to mention that, the dependence of kobsd on [DMP]2 indicates that the coordination number for every copper center in both n = 1 or 2 in [(Pip)4nCu4X4(CO3)2] is equal to six. Therefore, carbonato bridging centers in n = 1 acts as a tridentate ligand, while for n = 2 acts as a bidentate ligand.

Synthesis and Characterization of Novel μ-Carbonato Tetranuclear Copper Complexes [(Pip)_4nCu₄X₄(CO₃)₂] in Aprotic Media

In this work, novel oxidative coupling complexes, [(Pip)4nCu4X4(CO3)2] (n = 1 or 2, X = Cl or Br, Pip = piperidine), are synthesized from the reaction of well characterized Lewis base [(Pip)4nCu4X4O2] with carbon dioxide as a Lewis acid in CH2Cl2. These carbonato-derivatives are isolated as stable solids. They are easily soluble in aprotic solvents as CH2Cl2or phNO2. Cryoscopic measurements support tetranuclear structure for all of them. Electronic spectra in the near infrared with high molecular absorptivity may be explained for tetranuclear cuban structure to fulfil 3 halo-ligands for each copper centre in [(Pip)4nCu4X4(CO3)2]. The EPR spectra for [(Pip)4nCu4X4(CO3)2] complexes are axial type of spectra (dx2-y2 G.S) suggesting elongated tetragonal distortion for all of them. Cyclic voltammograms for [(Pip)4nCu4X4(CO3)2] are irreversible in character. These tetranuclear carbonato complexes show catalytical activity. They initiate the oxidation of 2,6-dimethylphenol (DMP) to 3,3’,5,5’-tetramethyl-4,4’-diphenoquinone (DPQ).

The aim of the present study was to investigate the status of oxidative stress in the serum of patients affected with cancer breast. Changes in the levels of total antioxidant capacity (TAC), uric acid, malondialdehyde (MDA), nitric oxide (nitrite/nitrate), cupper and iron were measured in serum of patients affected by non-metastatic as well as metastatic cancer breast. Significant decrease in TAC (32.7-37.5%), uric acid (28.1%-49.2), MDA (20.7%-25.2%) and nitric oxide (50.4%-61.9) were found in both groups of cancer breast patients compared to the control group. Serum Cu++ concentrations were significantly lower in metastatic cancer patient group compared with both control and non-metastatic cancer groups. Fe++ in serum was significantly lower in patients with non-metastatic cancer compared to normal subjects and patients with metastatic cancer. Significant differences were also observed between patients with non-metastatic and metastatic cancer breast as regards serum uric acid, nitric oxide were higher were observed in non-metastatic compared with metastatic cancer breast.

The kinetics of the periodate oxidation of chromium(III)-complex, [CrIII(NTA)(Ala)(H2O)]-(NTA = Nitrilotriacetate and Ala = ß-alanine) to Cr(VI) have been carried out for the temperature range 15°C - 35°C under pseudo-first order conditions, >>?[complex]. Reaction obeyed first order dependence with respect to and [Cr(III)], and the rate of reaction increases with increasing of pH for the range 3.40 - 4.45. Experimentally, the mechanism of this reaction is found to be consistent with the rate law in which the hydroxo species, [CrIII(NTA)(Ala)(OH)]2- is considerably much more reactive than their conjugate acid. ΔH* and ΔS* have been calculated. It is proposed that electron transfer occurs through an inner-sphere mechanism via coordination of to chromium(III).

Irrigation of fish farms with agricultural drainage water may affect cultured fish species. So, the present study utilizes antioxidants supplemented diet to overcome deterioration of drainage water and its negative effect on fish. The studied groups are fish cultured in dechlorinated tap water as control group or drainage water and fed commercial basal diet. While, the other studied groups represented by Oreochromis niloticus fish cultured in drainage water and fed either commercial diet supplemented with vitamin C (5 g/kg diet) or fennel (5 g/kg diet) for 12 weeks. Results of the water physico-chemical parameters of all studied treatments revealed deterioration of the drainage water with a decrease in dissolved oxygen and an increase in pH, total hardness, total alkalinity, salinity, ammonia, nitrite and heavy metals (Cu, Pb and Cd) with significant differences (P ≤ 0.01) in comparison to that of the control dechlorinated tap water group. Data clarified also that Oreochromis niloticus cultured in drainage water showed a decrease in growth rate accompanied by deterioration of fish meat quality. However, fish reared in the same drainage water for the same exposure period and fed vitamin C or fennel supplemented basal diet (5 g/kg diet) recorded values of the studied parameters more or less similar to that of control group fish. Data of the present study, empowered aquaculturist to supplement fish rations with fennel or vitamin C as antioxidants to improve fish growth rate, meat quality as well as protect fish against heavy metals toxicity that could threat Human Being.

This paper represents the interaction of well characterized Lewis base [（Pyr）nCuX]4O2, n = 1 or 2, X = Cl, Br or I, Pyr = pyrrolidine with CO2 as a Lewis acid to produce new series of oxidative coupling and catechol oxidase initiators [（Pyr）nCuX]4（CO3）2. These carbonato derivatives are isolated as stable solids. They are easily soluble in aprotic solvents as CH2Cl2 or PhNO2. Cryoscopic measurements support tetranuclear core structure for all of them. Infrared spectra show differences from their oxo analogous in the carbonato domains but those differences did not distinguish between tridentate bridging carbonato and bidentate one. Rate of oxidation of 2,6-dimethylphenol （DMP） by [（Pyr）CuCl]4（CO3）2, supports coordination number six for Cu（Ⅱ） centers in [（Pyr）CuCl]4（CO3）2. In order to fulfill coordination number six, for n = 1, carbonate will act as tridentate while for n = 2, it will act as bidentate, as shown in Scheme 4. Near infrared spectra indicate a [（3 halo） Cu（Ⅱ） charge transfer] for [（Pyr）nCuX]4（CO3）2, n = 1 or 2, X = Cl or Br. Low molecular absorptivities of the maxima at 825 nm and 730 nm for [（Pyr）nCuI]4（CO3）2, n = 1 or 2 with a minimum of high molecular absorptivities at 600 nm, comparing to X= CI or Br analogous, support a step structure for [（Pyr）,Cul]4（CO3）2, as shown in Scheme 5. Cyclic voltammograms for [（Pyr）nCuX]4（CO3）2; n = 1 or 2, X = CI or Br, are irreversible in characters.

Synthesis of silver nanoparticles using seeds of Nigella sativa as a capping agent was evaluated in this study. Different concentrations of the aqueous extract of N. sativa with silver nitrate solution were exposed to sunlight;as a force for acceleration of the formulation. Then the silver nanoparticles were characterized by UV-Vis, scanning electron microscope (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) techniques. Antibacterial activity of the nanoparticles was investigated against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli by the disc diffusion method. The characterization of nanoparticles was detected by the change in color to yellow-brown which indicated the formulation of silver nanoparticles. Irregular shapes within range of nanoscale were detected using SEM and XRD techniques. The finding suggests that silver nanoparticles may be effectively used as antibacterial agent.
