Enhanced hydrolytic removal of tylosin in wastewater using polymer-based solid acid catalysts converted from polystyrene

Antibiotic production wastewater usually contains high concentrations of antibiotic residues,which can cause instability and deterioration of biological wastewater treatment units and also domestication and proliferation of antibiotic-resistance bacteria.An effective pretreatment on antibiotics production wastewater is expected to selectively reduce the concentration of antibiotics and decrease the toxicity,rather than mitigate organic and other contaminants before further treatments.In this work,two polymer-based solid acids,PS-S and CPS-S bearing high concentrations of-SOH_(3)groups (up to 4.57 mmol/g),were prepared and successfully used for hydrolytic mitigation of 100 mg/L tylosin within 20 min.The co-existence of high concentrations of COD and humic substances did not affect the mitigation of tylosin obviously,while more than 500 mg/L of nitrogenous compounds suppressed the hydrolytic efficiency.Recycle and reuse experiments showed that the solid acids performed well in five cycles after regeneration.Three transformation products (P1,P2 and P3)were identified using UPLC-QTOF-MS/MS.Sugar moieties including mycarse,mycaminose,and mycinose detached and released simultaneously or in order from the 16-member lactone ring through desugarization,which led to a dramatic decrease in antibacterial activity as revealed by cytotoxicity evaluations using S.aureus.Ecotoxicity estimation indicated the acute toxicities of the hydrolyzed products to model species (e.g.,fish,daphnid and green algae) were classified as“not harmful”.This work suggested an effective and selective method to pretreat tylosin-contained production wastewater by using polymer-based solid acids.These results will shed light on effective elimination of antibiotics pollution from pharmaceutical industries through strengthening the pretreatments.

Nash equilibrium computation of two-network zero-sum games with event-triggered communication

In this paper,a zero-sum game Nash equilibrium computation problem with event-triggered communication is investigated under an undirected weight-balanced multi-agent network.A novel distributed event-triggered projection subgradient algorithm is developed to reduce the communication burden within the subnetworks.In the proposed algorithm,when the difference between the current state of the agent and the state of the last trigger time exceeds a given threshold,the agent will be triggered to communicate with its neighbours.Moreover,we prove that all agents converge to Nash equilibrium by the proposed algorithm.Finally,two simulation examples verify that our algorithm not only reduces the communication burden but also ensures that the convergence speed and accuracy are close to that of the time-triggered method under the appropriate threshold.

Pitavastatin attenuates AGEs-induced mitophagy via inhibition of ROS generation in the mitochondria of cardiomyocytes

This study aimed to investigate whether pitavastatin protected against injury induced by advanced glycation end products products（AGEs） in neonatal rat cardiomyocytes,and to examine the underlying mechanisms.Cardiomyocytes of neonatal rats were incubated for 48 hours with AGEs（100 μg/mL）,receptor for advanced glycation end products（RAGE）,antibody（1 μg/mL） and pitavastatin（600 ng/mL）.The levels of p62 and beclinl were determined by Western blotting.Mitochondrial membrane potential（△Ψm） and the generation of reactive oxygen species（ROS） were measured through the JC-1 and DCFH-DA.In the AGEs group,the expression of beclinl was remarkably increased compared to the control group,while the expression of p62 was significantly decreased.AGEs also markedly decreased △Ψm and significantly increased ROS compared with the control group.After treatment with RAGE antibody or pitavastatin,the level of beclinl was markedly decreased compared with the AGEs group,but the level of p62 was remarkably increased.In the AGEs ＋ RAGE antibody group and AGEs＋ pitavastatin group,△Ψm was significantly increased and ROS was remarkably decreased compared with the AGEs group.In conclusion,AGEs-RAGE may induce autophagy of cardiomyocytes by generation of ROS and pitavastatin could protect against AGEs-induced injury against cardiomyocytes.

Distributed projection subgradient algorithm for two-network zero-sum game with random sleep scheme

In this paper,a zero-sum game Nash equilibrium computation problem with a common constraint set is investigated under two time-varying multi-agent subnetworks,where the two subnetworks have opposite payoff function.A novel distributed projection subgradient algorithm with random sleep scheme is developed to reduce the calculation amount of agents in the process of computing Nash equilibrium.In our algorithm,each agent is determined by an independent identically distributed Bernoulli decision to compute the subgradient and perform the projection operation or to keep the previous consensus estimate,it effectively reduces the amount of computation and calculation time.Moreover,the traditional assumption of stepsize adopted in the existing methods is removed,and the stepsizes in our algorithm are randomized diminishing.Besides,we prove that all agents converge to Nash equilibrium with probability 1 by our algorithm.Finally,a simulation example verifies the validity of our algorithm.

Cell polarization in ischemic stroke: molecular mechanisms and advances

Ischemic stroke is a cerebrovascular disease associated with high mortality and disability rates. Since the inflammation and immune response play a central role in driving ischemic damage, it becomes essential to modulate excessive inflammatory reactions to promote cell survival and facilitate tissue repair around the injury site. Various cell types are involved in the inflammatory response, including microglia, astrocytes, and neutrophils, each exhibiting distinct phenotypic profiles upon stimulation. They display either proinflammatory or anti-inflammatory states, a phenomenon known as ‘cell polarization.’ There are two cell polarization therapy strategies. The first involves inducing cells into a neuroprotective phenotype in vitro, then reintroducing them autologously. The second approach utilizes small molecular substances to directly affect cells in vivo. In this review, we elucidate the polarization dynamics of the three reactive cell populations(microglia, astrocytes, and neutrophils) in the context of ischemic stroke, and provide a comprehensive summary of the molecular mechanisms involved in their phenotypic switching. By unraveling the complexity of cell polarization, we hope to offer insights for future research on neuroinflammation and novel therapeutic strategies for ischemic stroke.

Comparative transcriptomic insights into the mechanisms of electron transfer in Geobacter co-cultures with activated carbon and magnetite

Both activated carbon and magnetite have been reported to promote the syntrophic growth of Geobacter metallireducens and Geobacter sulfurreducens co-cultures, the first model to show direct interspecies electron transfer (DIET); however, differential transcriptomics of the promotion on co-cultures with these two conductive materials are unknown. Here, the comparative transcriptomic analysis of G. metallireducens and G. sulfurreducens co-cultures with granular activated carbon (GAC) and magnetite was reported. More than 2.6-fold reduced transcript abundances were determined for the uptake hydrogenase genes of G. sulfurreducens as well as other hydrogenases in those co-cultures to which conductive materials had been added. This is consistent with electron transfer in G. metallireducens-G. sulfurreducens co-cultures as evinced by direct interspecies electron transfer (DIET). Transcript abundance for the structural component of electrically conductive pili (e-pili), PilA, was 2.2-fold higher in G. metallireducens, and, in contrast, was 14.9-fold lower in G. sulfurreducens in co-cultures with GAC than in Geobacters co-cultures without GAC. However, it was 9.3-fold higher in G. sulfurreducens in co-cultures with magnetite than in Geobacters co-cultures. Mutation results showed that GAC can be substituted for the e-pili of both strains but magnetite can only compensate for that of G. sulfurreducens, indicating that the e-pili is a more important electron acceptor for the electron donor strain of G. metallireducens than for G. sulfurreducens. Transcript abundance for G. metallireducens c-type cytochrome gene GMET_RS14535, a homologue to c-type cytochrome gene omcE of G. sulfurreducens was 9.8-fold lower in co-cultures with GAC addition, while that for OmcS of G. sulfurreducens was 25.1-fold higher in co-cultures with magnetite, than in that without magnetite. C_(4)F_(7)N is considered to be the most potential alternative gas for SF_(6).However,harmful decomposition by-products generated by the discharge or overheating faults will pose threat to safe operation and service life of gas insulated equipment(GIE).Herein,we investigated the adsorption performance ofγ-Al_(2)O_(3)on C_(4)F_(7)N and its decomposition products to evaluate the possibility of using it as by-products adsorbent or exhaust treatment material.It is found thatγ-Al_(2)O_(3)demonstrates superior adsorption capacity for CF_(4),C_(2)F_(6),C_(3)F_(8),C_(3)F_(6),C_(2)F_(4),and keeps stable after the interaction.The first-principles calculation infers thatγ-Al_(2)O_(3)has stronger interaction with C_(4)F_(7)N,C_(3)F_(6)and C_(3)F_(8)than that of C_(2)F_(4),C_(2)F_(6)and CF_(4).There exists obvious charge transfer between C_(4)F_(7)N andγ-Al_(2)O_(3),which belongs to chemisorption.The interaction between F 2p orbital and C=Cπorbital determines the gas-solid adsorption performance.The desorption properties were also explored and the recovery time was in order of CF_(4)

Four Methods to Estimate Minimum Miscibility Pressure of CO2-Oil Based on Machine Learning

Summary of main observation and conclusion CO2 flooding accounts for a considerable proportion in gas flooding.Using CO2 as a gas displacement agent is benefit for enhanced oil recovery(EOR),and the alleviation of the greenhouse effect by the permanent storage of CO2 in the crust.Minimum miscibility pressure(MMP)of CO2-oil is a key factor affecting EOR,which determines the yield and economic benefit of crude oil recovery.Therefore,it is of great importance to use fast,accurate and cheap prediction methods for MMP estimation.In the present study,to evaluate the reliability of four recently developed prediction models based on machine learning(i.e.,neural network analysis(NNA),genetic function approximation(GFA),multiple linear regression(MLR),partial least squares(PLS)),136 sets of data are selected for calculation via outlier analysis from 147 sets of data.Afterwards,we compared the four models with existing prediction models from the literature.The analysis of correlation coefficients and multiple error functions shows that the four models can solve the MMP prediction problem well,and the model using intelligent algorithm has a higher prediction accuracy than the simple linear model.Besides,intelligent methods based on similarity algorithm have little difference from each other.Finally,a sensitivity analysis was conducted.

In this paper, the distributed optimization problem of continuous-time second-order nonlinear multi-agent systems with communication delays under undirected graphs is studied. First, we show that the equilibrium point of the multi-agent systems with time delays is corresponding to the optimal solution of the problem. Next, based on gradient descent, we propose a distributed optimization algorithm. Besides, we analyze the global convergence of the algorithm by constructing a suitable Lyapunov function and linear matrix inequality. Finally, an example is presented to illustrate the effectiveness of our result.

The abundancy of defect sinks in the microstructure of laser powder bed fusion(LPBF) processed austenitic stainless steels was found to be beneficial for helium resistance.In the current study,the influence of the novel microstructure in LPBF processed 304 L on the helium bubble growth behaviour was investigated using transmission electron microscopy in samples implanted with He^(+) ion and post-irradiation annealing treated at 600℃ for 1 h.Two variants of LPBF processed 304 L samples were used,one in as-built condition and the other solution-annealed.The comparison between the two samples indicated that the helium bubble growth was inhibited and remained stable in the as-built sample but coarsened significantly in the solution-annealed sample.The sub-grain boundaries and oxide nano-inclusions acted as defect sinks to trap helium atoms and inhibited the growth of helium bubble in the as-built sample under the post-irradiation annealing conditions used.
