Trisomy 3 may predict a poor response of gastric MALT lymphoma to Helicobacter pylori eradication therapy

AIM: To investigate the relation of the response to Helicobacter pylori eradication therapy to the depth of tumor invasion and chromosome abnormalities in patients with mucosaassociated lymphoid tissue (MALT) lymphoma and to determine the clinical value of ***: We studied 13 patients with localized gastric MALT lymphoma of stage E1. Before eradication therapy,the depth of tumor invasion was assessed by endoscopic ultrasonography in 8 patients and by endoscopic examination and gastrointestinal series in the remaining patients. To detect chromosomal abnormalities, paraffin-embedded tissue sections of diagnostic biopsy specimens underwent tissuefluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH), using chromosomespecific α-satellite DNA probes for chromosomes 3,7,12,and 18 and YAC clones for t(11;18)(q21;q21).RESULTS: Seven of the 13 patients had complete regression(CR) in response to H pylori eradication therapy. No patient with CR had submucosal tumor invasion. Trisomy 18 was seen in 1 patient with CR, and both trisomies 12 and 18 were present in another patient with CR. All patients with no response or progressive disease had deep submucosal tumor invasion and showed t(11;18)(q21;q21) or trisomy 3. Trisomy 7 was not detected in this series of ***: The depth of tumor invasion is an accurate predictor of the response of stage E1 MALT lymphoma to H pylori eradication therapy and is closely associated with the presence of chromosomal abnormalities. Trisomy 3 may predict the aggressive development of MALT lymphoma.

＜正＞ Adsorption behaviors were investigated for 2-chlorophenol, one of the precursors of dioxin, on charcoal （CB） and activated carbon （ACB） prepared from bamboo, and activated carbon （AC） prepared from coconut shell. The adsorption percent on all adsorbents showed more than 90% in the region of pH 2-7. CB showed decrease of adsorption percentage in the region of more than pH 7, indicating that the electrostatic repulsion causes between carboxylate ion on surface of CB and 2-chlorophenol dissociated in the region of high pH. The adsorptions of 2-chlorophenol on CB, ACB and AC were represented by the Langmuir adsorption isotherm and their adsorption capacities were 0. 30, 1. 53 and 3. 66 mmol/g, respectively. This result was the same as the order of their specific surface areas. 2-Chlorophenol adsorbed on adsorbents was easily desorbed by methanol.

Effect of a Natural Inulin-Containing Product, “Kikuimo Extract” on Intestinal Microbes and Gene Expression in the Liver and Adipose Tissue of Menopausal Monkeys

Inulin is a soluble and indigestible fiber derived from natural plants such as Jerusalem artichoke (Helianthus tuberosus), “Kikuimo”. In the current study, a nutrigenomics approach was utilized to evaluate the in vivo function of “Kikuimo Extract” (KE) in ovariectomized cynomolgus macaque, a post-menopausal non-human primate model. KE was administered orally before feeding, for 3 months for the following examinations: 1) the effect of KE on intestinal microbes was examined by quantitative analyses of the intestinal bacteria using real-time PCR with DNA extracted from monkey feces;2) the effect of KE on gene expression was investigated by real-time RT-PCR using RNA extracted from both the liver and adipose tissue of the monkeys. KE administration modulated menopause-mediated altered microbes to increase Lactobacilli, Veillonella, and Bacteroides in all monkeys. KE administration regulated the altered expression of functional genes, SCAP, LDLR, and LXRA (lipid metabolism);GLUT-4 (glucose transport);CYP1A1 and CYP1A2 (drug metabolism);and CYP-17-2 and CYP-19-2 (E2 synthesis) in the menopausal monkeys. In menopausal monkeys, KE showed potent prebiotic effect on beneficial microflora and regulating effect on altered expression of functional genes associated with metabolism and E2 production. Thus, KE appears to be a practical functional food that alleviates the altered conditions of intestinal microbes and gene expression in the liver and adipose tissue in a menopausal state.

Simultaneous measurements of aeroacoustic sounds and wall vibration for exploring the contribution of tooth vibration in the production of sibilant sounds/s/

In order to understand the contribution of teeth vibration to the production of sibilant/s/, the pre-sent study was designed to develop a method of simultaneously measuring aeroacoustic sounds and the vibration of an obstacle. To measure the vibration without disturbing flow, the Michelson interferometer was employed. The flow channel, which had an obstacle wall inside of it, was fabricated such that it morphologically mimicked the simplified geometry of the oral cavity. Given airflows at a flow rate of 7.5 × 10–4 m3/s from the inlet, aeroacoustic sounds were generated. A spectrum analy-sis of the data demonstrated two prominent peaks in the sound at 1,300 and 3,500 Hz and one peak in the wall vibration at 3,500 Hz. The correlation in peak frequencies between the sound and wall vibration suggests that the sound at 3,500 Hz was induced by the wall vibration. In fact, the sound amplitude at 3,500 Hz decreased when the obstacle wall was thickened, which increased its rigidity (p < 0.05, t-test). The experimental results demonstrate that the developed techniques are capable of measuring aeroacoustic sound and obstacle wall vibration simultaneously, and suggest the potential to pave the way for detailed analysis of the production of sibilant sounds /s/.
