Background diseases and the number of previous intravitreal aflibercept injections on immediate intraocular pressure increase and vitreous reflux rate in phakic eyes

●AIM:To evaluate the effect of background diseases and number of previous intravitreal aflibercept injections(IVAIs)on immediate intraocular pressure(IOP)increase and vitreous reflux(VR)rate and to evaluate the correlation of both age and axial length with immediate IOP increase and VR rate.●METHODS:This study included 105 patients with cystoid macular edema secondary to retinal vein occlusion,35 patients with diabetic macular edema,69 patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration(nAMD),and 12 patients with myopic choroidal neovascularization,which underwent first-time *** correlation of immediate IOP increase and VR rates with the four background diseases was ***,the correlation of age with immediate IOP increase and VR rate as well as correlation of axial length with immediate IOP increase and VR rate were ***,54 patients with nAMD were treated with IVAI>10 times(multiple IVAIs).Moreover,the correlation of immediate IOP increase and VR rates with first-time and multiple IVAIs in nAMD was determined.●RESULTS:The immediate IOP increase(P=0.16)and VR rates(P=0.50)were almost similar among the four background *** immediate postinjection IOP and age,VR rate and age,immediate postinjection IOP and axial length,or VR rate and axial length were not correlated in the four background *** immediate IOP increase(P=0.66)and VR rates(P=0.28)did not significantly differ between first-time and multiple IVAIs in nAMD.●CONCLUSION:Background diseases and number of previous IVAIs have no effect on immediate IOP increase and VR ***,age and axial length have no correlation on immediate IOP increase and VR rate.

在海平面升降、构造活动、沉积物供给等外部驱动作用下,沉积地层的叠置受自成因和他成因两种机制的控制。近年的认识表明,自成因机制可发生在沉积过程的各个时空尺度。不同于小尺度自成因机制仅发生在沉积系统的局部,大尺度自成因机制可在盆地范围内系统性地控制地层的发育,能够修饰甚至改变他成因过程。要想准确地探究地层的叠置样式与外部驱动条件之间的关系,必须有效地鉴别大尺度自成因与他成因过程。基于对大尺度自成因过程的认识,逐渐建立与发展了自成因地层学。它提出的自成因与他成因观、平衡响应与非平衡响应观为解析地层叠置样式与外部驱动条件之间的关系提供了新的视角。自成因地层学一方面对外部驱动条件分为稳定的(速率等作用方式保持不变)与不稳定的(速率等作用方式发生改变),由前者形成的地层叠加样式(或过程)称为自成因的,后者形成的地层叠加样式(或过程)称为他成因的。另一方面也将地层叠置样式分为稳定的(加积速率与进积速率的比值R_(agg)/R_(pro)保持不变)与不稳定的(R_(agg)/R_(pro)发生改变)。若稳定的外部驱动条件形成稳定的地层叠加样式,称为平衡响应,是自成因过程;稳定的外部驱动条件形成不稳定的地层叠加样式称为自成因的非平衡响应。此外,不稳定的外部驱动条件也可能形成稳定的地层叠加样式,称为他成因的非平衡响应。自成因地层学认为,由于自成因非平衡响应机制的普遍存在,地层的叠加过程通常表现得不稳定。相比而言,稳定的地层叠加样式仅在特殊情况下才能发生。传统成因地层学应当重视大尺度的自成因机制。

Matrix metalloproteinase-2 as a superior biomarker for peritoneal deterioration in peritoneal dialysis

AIM: To investigate the efficacy of effluent biomarkers for peritoneal deterioration with functional decline in peritoneal dialysis(PD). METHODS: From January 2005 to March 2013, the subjects included 218 PD patients with end-stage renal disease at 18 centers. Matrix metalloproteinase-2(MMP-2), interleukin-6(IL-6), hyaluronan, and cancer antigen 125(CA125) in peritoneal effluent were quantified with enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Peritoneal solute transport rate was assessed by peritoneal equilibration test(PET) to estimate peritoneal deterioration. RESULTS: The ratio of the effluent level of creatinine(Cr) obtained 4 h after injection(D) to that of plasma was correlated with the effluent levels of MMP-2(ρ = 0.74, P < 0.001), IL-6(ρ = 0.46, P < 0.001), and hyaluronan(ρ = 0.27, P < 0.001), but not CA125(ρ = 0.13, P = 0.051). The area under receiver operating characteristic curve for the effluent levels of MMP-2, IL-6, and hyaluronan against high PET category were 0.90, 0.78, 0.62, and 0.51, respectively. No patient developed new-onset encapsulating peritoneal sclerosis for at least 1.5 years after peritoneal effluent ***: The effluent MMP-2 level most closely reflected peritoneal solute transport rate. MMP-2 can be a reliable indicator of peritoneal deterioration with functional decline.

Fabrication of a model specimen for understanding micro-galvanic corrosion at the boundary ofα-Mg andβ-Mg17Al12

A model specimen with a single boundary of theα/βphase simulating Mg-Al alloys was successfully fabricated by spark plasma sintering.A small electrode area ofαphase orβphase was prepared using the model specimen,and the OCPs(open-circuit potentials)of each phase and a small electrode area containing theα/βphase boundary in 0.1 M NaCl at pH 8.0 were compared:theβphase exhibited a higher potential,and theαphase showed a lower *** OCP of the small area containing theα/βphase boundary was the intermediate value of these *** a small area containingα/βphase boundary,discoloration and gas bubbles were observed on theαphase,but no bubble generation was detected on theβ*** gas bubbles were initially generated on theαphase near theβphase,but as the discoloration(corrosion)of theαphase approached theβphase,the bubbles were generated on theβ*** micro-galvanic corrosion of theαandβphases,theβphase did not always function as the preferred ***αphase partially corroded(or discolored)and became the anodes,so that the surrounding areas were most likely to be the *** corroded areas(anodes)in theαphase approached theβphase,theβphase would become *** addition to the micro-galvanic corrosion mechanism,the role of Al in corrosion resistance at theα/βphase boundary was determined by surface analysis.

Seismic data of earthquakes recorded during the last 40 years in southern Calabria have been compared with geological data in order to obtain a seismotectonic picture of the area. We sought for any possible correlation between the main regional tectonic structures, the distribution of earthquake hypocentres and the focal mechanism of earthquakes with magnitude(Ml)≥*** of historical and recent seismicity and analysis of geological structures allowed to define the main shear strips on a regional scale. More than 2600 earthquakes with 1.5 ≤ Ml ≤ 4.5 have been considered. The focal mechanisms of earthquakes with Ml≥3 have been compared with the kinematics of known faults and used to give insight on the current active stress field. From the analysis carried out it was possible to expand the cognitive framework regarding the activity of the main tectonic structures present in the area. This study also served to identify areas of high seismicity which do not correspond to any evidence of tectonic structures on the surface, and areas where recognized tectonic structures have not shown any seismicity during the last decades. These cases could be the subject of future investigation in order to correctly assess the seismic hazard in *** task is important in the context of seismic hazard evaluation and mitigation.

Objective: To evaluate transperineal laser ablation (TPLA) with Echolaser® (Echolaser® TPLA, Elesta S.p.A., Calenzano, Italy) as a treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and prostate cancer (PCa) using the Delphi consensus ***: Italian and international experts on BPH and PCa participated in a collaborative consensus project. During two rounds, they expressed their opinions on Echolaser® TPLA for the treatment of BPH and PCa answering online questionnaires on indications, methodology, and potential complications of this technology. Level of agreement or disagreement to reach consensus was set at 75%. If the consensus was not achieved, questions were modified after each round. A final round was performed during an online meeting, in which results were discussed and ***: Thirty-two out of forty invited experts participated and consensus was reached on all topics. Agreement was achieved on recommending Echolaser® TPLA as a treatment of BPH in patients with ample range of prostate volume, from 80 mL (80%), comorbidities (100%), antiplatelet or anticoagulant treatment (96%), indwelling catheter (77%), and strong will of preserving ejaculatory function (100%). Majority of respondents agreed that Echolaser® TPLA is a potential option for the treatment of localized PCa (78%) and recommended it for low-risk PCa (90%). During the final round, experts concluded that it can be used for intermediate-risk PCa and it should be proposed as an effective alternative to radical prostatectomy for patients with strong will of avoiding urinary incontinence and sexual dysfunction. Almost all participants agreed that the transperineal approach of this organ-sparing technique is safer than transrectal and transurethral approaches typical of other techniques (97% of agreement among experts). Fluorinated electrolytes possess good antioxidant capacity that provides high compatibility to high-voltage cathode and flame retardance;thus,they are considered as a promising solution for advanced lithium-ion batteries carrying both high-energy density and high ***,the fluorinated electrolytes are widely used to form stable electrolyte interphase,due to their chemical reactivity with lithiated graphite or ***,the influence of this reactivity on the thermal safety of batteries is seldom ***,we demonstrate that the flame-retardant fluorinated electrolytes help to reduce the flammability,while the lithium-ion batteries with flame-retardant fluorinated electrolytes still undergo thermal runaway and disclose their different thermal runaway pathway from that of battery with conventional *** reduction in fluorinated components(e.g.,LiPF 6 and fluoroethylene carbonate(FEC))by fully lithiated graphite accounts for a significant heat release during battery thermal *** 13%of total heat is sufficient to trigger the chain reactions during battery thermal *** study deepens the understanding of the thermal runaway mechanism of lithium-ion batteries employing flame-retardant fluorinated electrolytes,providing guidance on the concept of electrolyte design for safer lithium-ion batteries.

In order to investigate the design method for a micro centrifugal compressor,which is the most important component of an ultra micro gas turbine,two types of centrifugal impeller with 2-dimensional blade were designed,manufactured and *** impellers have different shapes of hub on the meridional plane with each ***,these types of impeller were made for the 5 times and the 6 times size of the final target centrifugal impeller with the outer diameter of 4mm in order to assess the similitude for the *** comparison among the performance characteristics of the impellers revealed the influence of the meridional configuration on the performance and the similitude of the compressors.

Identification of CO_2 disposal locations in an ocean general circulation model of the North Pacific

A basin-wide ocean general circulation model of the North Pacific is used to identify which location is more efficient for ocean CO2 sequestration in the North *** injection depths at each one of fifteen locations are *** terms of effectiveness index（EI） and escape factor（EF）,it is clear that the effectiveness increases with increasing latitude at the end of the 50 a injection ***-by-site differences in the EI can be over 9% for the 1 000 m injection depth in the western North Pacific at the end of 50 a of continuous *** difference is much larger for the 500 m *** difference decreases with increasing injection ***,the site-by-site difference is small for the injection in the eastern North *** sequestration is more efficient for the injection in the east than in the *** the 500 m injection depth,the difference in effectiveness between the west and the east is over 10% at the end of 50 a injection *** largest concentration of sequestered CO2 increases with increasing injection *** the injection in both the western and central North Pacific,the largest exchange flux always appears to be at about 42°N,150°E,whereas for the injection in the eastern area the large flux appears to be in the equatorial region（120°W）.
