Reduced levels of retinal dopamine,a key regulator of eye development,are associated with experimental myopia in various species,but are not seen in the myopic eyes of C57BL/6 mice,which are deficient in melatonin,a neurohormone having extensive interactions with dopamine.Here,we examined the relationship between form-deprivation myopia(FDM)and retinal dopamine levels in melatonin-proficient CBA/CaJ mice.We found that these mice exhibited a myopic refractive shift in form-deprived eyes,which was accompanied by altered retinal dopamine levels.When melatonin receptors were pharmacologically blocked,FDM could still be induced,but its magnitude was reduced,and retinal dopamine levels were no longer altered in FDM animals,indicating that melatonin-related changes in retinal dopamine levels contribute to FDM.Thus,FDM is mediated by both dopamine level-independent and melatonin-related dopamine level-dependent mechanisms in CBA/CaJ mice.The previously reported unaltered retinal dopamine levels in myopic C57BL/6 mice may be attributed to melatonin deficiency.

In order to increase efficiency and avoid NH^(4+)-N pollution in the leaching process of weathered crust elution-deposited rare earth ores,the mass transfer in heap leaching with Al_(2)(SO_(4))_(3) solution was simulated with column elution and experimentally optimized.The results indicate that the leaching yield is also up to 99%for leaching with aluminum sulfate instead of ammonium sulfate.The optimal flow rate is 60 mL/h,the height equivalent to a theoretical plate(HETP)is 1.29 mm correspondingly.The peak value position of RE^(3+)is 60 mL/h,Fe^(3+)is 100 mL/h,however,Al^(3+)is 150 mL/h,and the heap leaching process has kinetic separation effect.

To restore dam-blocked natural fish migratory passages,a growing number of artificial fishways have been built in water conservancy and hydropower projects in China.The Angu hydropower station involved diverse important fish habitats in the lower reaches of the Daduhe River in Southwest China.Therefore,a vertical slot fishway(VSF)and a nature-like fishway(NLF)were built near the backwater area of the reservoir to connect the upstream and downstream habitats.Hydrodynamic and aquatic ecological surveys were conducted after the completion of the project to estimate the fish passing effect of the two fishways.The results indicated that both fishways were in effective operation and could maintain the desired hydrodynamic conditions and be used by several local fish species.During the survey,149 fish from 15 species and 111 fish from 17 species were captured by the traps in the VSF and NLF,respectively,while 1263 fish from 27 species were found in the downstream area.Some species captured in the VSF were not found in the NLF,and vice versa,which implied the different preferences of fish.Meanwhile,3789 signals including 2099 upward ones and 1690 downward ones were monitored with an ultrasonic fish detector at the inlet of the VSF.These findings revealed the characteristics of fish species observed in and near the fishways and provided valuable insights into the different fish passing capabilities of VSFandNLF.

Dopamine is known as a key molecule in retinal signaling pathways regulating visually guided eye growth, as evidenced by reduced retinal dopamine levels in various species when experimental myopia is generated. However, in C57BL/6 mice our recent work demonstrated that neither retinal dopamine levels, retinal tyrosine hydroxylase (rate-limiting enzyme in dopamine synthesis) levels, nor dopaminergic amacrine cell density/morphology, were altered during the development of form-deprivation myopia (FDM). These results suggest that retinal dopamine is unlikely associated with FDM development in this mouse strain. The role of dopamine in refractive development was further explored in this mouse strain when retinal dopamine levels were reduced by intravitreal injections of 6-OHDA, a neurotoxin that specifically destroys dopaminergic neurons. The dose was so chosen that retinal dopamine levels were reduced, but no significant changes in electroretinographic responses were detected. 6-OHDA induced significant myopic shifts in refraction in a dose-dependent manner, suggesting the involvement of dopamine in normal refractive development. Biometric measurements of ocular dimensions revealed that 6-OHDA resulted in a shorter axial length and a steeper cornea, while form-deprivation led to a longer axial length without changing the corneal radius of curvature. These results strongly suggest that in addition to the dopamine-independent mechanism, a dopamine-dependent mechanism works for refractive development. We have obtained evidence, suggesting that the dopamine-independent mechanism might be related to intrinsically photosensitive retinal ganglion cells (ipRGCs). Firstly, selective ablation of ipRGCs with an immunotoxin resulted in myopic shifts in refraction. Secondly, form-deprivation induced less myopic shifts in animals with ipRGC ablation.

Dear Editor,This letter explores optimal formation control for a network of unmanned surface vessels(USVs).By designing an individual objective function for each USV,the optimal formation problem is transformed into a noncooperative game.Under this game theoretic framework,the optimal formation is achieved by seeking the Nash equilibrium of the regularized game.A modular structure consisting of a distributed Nash equilibrium seeker and a regulator is proposed.

This research aimed to examine the diagnostic accuracy and clinical significance of endoscopic ultrasonography(EUS)in the context of small rectal neuroendocrine neoplasms(NENs).A total of 108 patients with rectal subepithelial lesions(SELs)with a diameter of<20 mm were included in the analysis.The diagnosis and depth assessment of EUS was compared to the histology findings.The prevalence of NENs in rectal SELs was 78.7%(85/108).The sensitivity of EUS in detecting rectal NENs was 98.9%(84/85),while the specificity was 52.2%(12/23).Overall,the diagnostic accuracy of EUS in identifying rectal NENs was 88.9%(96/108).The overall accuracy rate for EUS in assessing the depth of invasion in rectal NENs was 92.9%(78/84).Therefore,EUS demonstrates reasonable diagnostic accuracy in detecting small rectal NENs,with good sensitivity but inferior specificity.EUS may also assist physicians in assessing the depth of invasion in small rectal NENs before endoscopic excision.

BACKGROUND Brain metastases(BM)are very rare in gastric adenocarcinoma(GaC),and patients with BMs have a higher mortality rate due to stronger tumor aggressiveness.However,its pathogenesis remains unclear.Genetic testing revealed cellular-mesenchymal epithelial transition factor receptor(MET)amplification.Therefore,treatment with savolitinib,a small molecule inhibitor of c-Met,was selected.CASE SUMMARY A 66-year-old woman was diagnosed with advanced GaC 6 months prior to presentation due to back pain.Cerebellar and meningeal metastases were observed during candonilimab combined with oxaliplatin and capecitabine therapy.The patient experienced frequent generalized seizures and persistent drowsiness in the emergency department.Genetic testing of cerebrospinal fluid and peripheral blood revealed increased MET amplification.After discussing treatment options with the patient,savolitinib tablets were administered.After a month of treatment,the intracranial lesions shrank considerably.CONCLUSION BM is very rare in advanced GaC,especially in meningeal cancer,that is characterized by rapid disease deterioration.There are very few effective treatment options available;however,technological breakthroughs in genomics have provided a basis for personalized treatment.Furthermore,MET amplification may be a key driver of BM in gastric cancer;however,this conclusion requires further investigation.

Oil-paper insulation material is an essential component for oil-filled transformers,and polyimide(PI)insulation paper is a novel material in the field of electricity.The improvement of insulation class for insulation paper has gained significant attention in recent years.In this study,SiO_(2)nanoparticles were modified with a silane coupling agent(KH550),and the KH550-SiO_(2)was added to the fibre membrane through in situ poly-merisation.The chemical composition and microcosmic characteristics of the PI porous fibre membrane were characterised using FT-IR and SEM FT-IR and SEM.Conse-quently,the dielectric constant of the composite paper was reduced to 2.3 upon adding 3 wt%of KH550-SiO_(2),and the dielectric strength reached its maximum value of 85 kV/mm.The results demonstrate that the insulation performance of the KH550-SiO_(2)/PI composite was significantly improved due to the incorporation of nano-SiO_(2).This establishes an efficient approach for achieving excellent electrical and thermal properties in practical applications using the KH550-SiO_(2)/PI fibre membrane.

BACKGROUND Vestibular dysfunction(VH)is a common concomitant symptom of late peri-pheral vestibular lesions,which can be trauma,poisoning,infection,heredity,and neurodegeneration,but about 50%of the causes are unknown.The study uses the information-motivation-behavioral skills(IMB)model for health education,effectively improve the quality of life,increase their self-confidence,reduce anxiety and depression,and effectively improve the psychological state of patients.AIM To explore the effect of health education based on the IMB model on the degree of vertigo,disability,anxiety and depression in patients with unilateral vestibular hypofunction.METHODS The clinical data of 80 patients with unilateral vestibular hypofunction from January 2019 to December 2021 were selected as the retrospective research objects,and they were divided into the control group and the observation group with 40 cases in each group according to different nursing methods.Among them,the control group was given routine nursing health education and guidance,and the observation group was given health education and guidance based on the IMB model.The changes in self-efficacy,anxiety and depression,and quality of life of patients with unilateral VH were compared between the two groups.RESULTS There was no significant difference in General Self-Efficacy Scale(GSES)scale scores between the two groups of patients before nursing(P>0.05),which was comparable;after nursing,the GSES scale scores of the two groups were higher than those before nursing.The nursing group was higher than the control group,and the difference was statistically significant(P0.05).After nursing,the HADS score,anxiety,and depression subscale scores of the two groups of patients were lower than those before nursing,and the nursing group was lower than the control group,and the difference was statistically
