Buried water pipelines are vulnerable to fail or break due to excessive loading or ground *** evaluation of pipe performance and serviceability relies on the proper understanding of pipe-soil interactions(PSI).Analytical methods are important approaches to studying ***,a systematic and thorough literature review to analyze the existing research trends,technological achievements and future research opportunities is not *** work investigates analytical methods that analyze the stress and deformation of pipes in terms of cross-sectional,transverse and longitudinal PSI ***,scientometric analysis is performed to acquire relevant research works from online databases and analyze the existing data of influential authors,productive research sources and frequent key word occurrence in the fields of ***,a qualitative discussion is performed in the three categories of PSI:(1)cross-sectional,including ovalization and circumferential behaviours;(2)transverse,including seismic fault crossing,weak soil zones,ground settlement and pipe uplift;and(3)***,six research opportunities are discussed,including the role of friction in cross-sectional deformation,combined effects of bending and compression,choice of soil reaction models and calibration of key parameters,effect of pipe flaws,soil spatial variability and behaviours of curved *** study helps beginners familiarize themselves with PSI analytical methods and provides experienced researchers with ideas for future research directions.

Gamma ray shielding is essential to ensure the safety of personnel and equipment in facilities and environments where radiation *** Monte Carlo technique is vital for analyzing the gamma-ray shielding capabilities of *** this study,a simple Monte Carlo code,EJUSTCO,is developed to cd simulate gamma radiation transport in shielding materials for academic *** code considers the photoelectric effect,Compton(incoherent)scattering,pair production,and photon annihilation as the dominant interaction mechanisms in the gamma radiation shielding *** reduction techniques,such as the Russian roulette,survival weighting,and exponential transformation,are incorporated into the code to improve computational *** the exponential transformation parameter typically requires trial and error as well as ***,a deep learning neural network is proposed as a viable method for predicting this parameter for the first *** model achieves an MSE of 0.00076752 and an R-value of *** exposure buildup factors and radiation dose rates due to the passage of gamma radiation with different source energies and varying thicknesses of lead,water,iron,concrete,and aluminum in single-,double-,and triple-layer material systems are validated by comparing the results with those of MCNP,ESG,ANS-6.4.3,MCBLD,MONTEREY MARK(M),PENELOPE,and *** errors of 5.6%,2.75%,and 10%are achieved for the exposure buildup factor in single-,double-,and triple-layer materials,respectively.A significant parameter that is not considered in similar studies is the gamma ray *** the EJUSTCO code,the total number and energy albedos have been *** results are compared with those of MCNP,FOTELP,and *** general,the EJUSTCO-developed code can be employed to assess the performance of radiation shielding materials because the validation results are consistent with theoretical,experimental,and literary results.

Tailoring nanocomposite membranes of cellulose acetate/silica nanoparticles for desalination

Herein, the fabrication of cellulose acetate (CA) silica-based nanocomposite membranes via the dry-wetphase inversion procedure for water desalination was investigated. The modified and unmodified silicananoparticles (MSNPs and SNPs) were prepared by the sol-gel technique. The effect of the SNPs andMSNPs was investigated on the CA membrane's properties and their performance for water *** CA nanocomposite membranes were characterized to study their structure, hydrophilicity, andmorphology. The fabricated nanocomposite membranes showed hydrophilic surface properties. Theperformance of reverse osmosis (RO) membranes was measured using a crossflow RO unit at 10 bar(1 bar = 0.1 MPa). The membrane with 10 mg of SNPs enhanced permeate water flux compared to thepristine CA membrane by 1.6 L/(m2·h). The effect of MSNPs on the nanocomposites' performance waslower than their counterpart in the case of adding SNPs. The membrane with 30 mg of MSNPs showedthe highest permeate water flux among other nanocomposite membranes with a value oAQSf 35.7 L/(m2·h)at 24 bar.

Inter-Observer Reliability of Fused Time-of-Flight MR Angiography and 3D Steady State Sequence versus 3D Contrast Enhanced Images in Evaluation of Neurovascular Compression

Purpose: Is to evaluate the accuracy of fused 3D time-of-flight (TOF) MR angiography and 3D Steady-State sequence (FIESTA) versus 3D contrast-enhanced T1 weighted images in evaluation of neurovascular compression via an inter-observer agreement protocol. Methods: Patients presented with trigeminal neuralgia, tinnitus, or facial hemispasm were examined using 3D-TOF-MRA, 3D-FIESTA, and 3D contrast-enhanced T1WI of the cerebellopontine angle to assess neurovascular compression. Two independent readers assessed the location, signal alteration, offending vascular structure, and grade of neurovascular compression using fused 3D-TOF-MRA and 3D-FIESTA versus contrast-enhanced T1 weighted images. The Kappa test for interobserver agreement was done. Results: The final study cohort consisted of 56 patients (42 females and 14 males) with a mean age of 38.25 ± 1.94. AICA was the offending vessel for 32 (57.1%) patients. The most common offending nerve was the trigeminal nerve in 26 patients, followed by facial/vestibulocochlear complex in 18 patients, and solely the 8th nerve in 12 patients. All three grades of compression were encountered in this study with percentages of 48.2% (27/56), 30.3% (17/56), and 21.4% (12/56) for grades I, II, III respectively. Fused TOF and steady-state images, and contrast-enhanced images showed perfect agreement for detection of the side of compression, the relation between nerve and vascular loop, offended neural segment, and offending vessel, while showing good agreement regarding the degree of compression. Conclusion: Fused TOF and steady-state images provide sufficient data to diagnose and grade microvascular compression syndromes comparable to contrast-enhanced images.

The coastal plain aquifer down gradient of Wad Essaquia Elhamra(WEE),is the main source of groundwater in the arid region of Laayoune Essaquia El Hamra located in south of *** over-exploitation of this aquifer over the last decade for water supply,agriculture and industry led to deterioration of groundwater quality,including seawater *** objective of this study is to investigate the spatial variation of groundwater quality,and to assess the influence of sea water intrusion on the groundwater quality using hydro-chemical *** measurement campaigns of physico-chemical parameters of the groundwater were performed,which shows a very high mineralization ratios versus chloride,confirming the double influence of mixing mechanisms of fresh and saline waters and the water-rock *** seawater fraction for sampled water shows that the average mixing rate of seawater intrusion reached 10.5%,confirming the marine intrusion in the *** highest values were registered in coastal *** the upstream around Laayoune and the spreading area,nitrate concentrations exceed 50 mg/L which is the threshold set by the World Health Organization,revealing a high level of contamination by domestic *** combination of ionic ratios and seawater fraction is a useful tool to assess marine *** study reveals that the phenomenon of marine intrusion is not the only process that dominates hydrochemistry of ground *** high groundwater mineralization is also due to rockwater interaction associated with reverse ion exchange with clay material and anthropogenic pollutants.

Internal fixator vs external fixator in the management of unstable pelvic ring injuries:A prospective comparative cohort study

BACKGROUND Reconstruction of the pelvic ring anatomy in unstable anterior pelvic ring injuries is a significant step to reduce the mortality rate associated with these injuries *** is a debate on using either an anterior subcutaneous pelvis internal fixator(INFIX)or an anterior supra-acetabular external fixator(EXFIX)to manage an unstable anterior pelvic ring *** To compare the functional and radiological outcomes and complications of INFIX vs EXFIX in managing unstable pelvic ring *** A prospective cohort study included 54 patients with unstable pelvic ring *** patients were divided into two groups;the INFIX group,in which 30 cases were fixed by INFIX,and the EXFIX group,in which 24 patients were treated by *** average age in the EXFIX group was 31.17 years(16-57 years),while in the INFIX group,it was 34.5 years(17-53 years).The study included 20(66.7%)males and 10(33.3%)females in the INFIX group and 10(41.7%)males and 14(58.3%)females in the EXFIX *** radiological outcomes were evaluated using Matta and Tornetta's score,and the functional outcomes using the Majeed *** The results revealed a statistically significant difference between both groups(P=0.013)regarding radiological outcomes,according to Matta and Tornetta's score in favor of the INFIX ***,standing,and walking abilities were measured at a 3-mo follow-up visit using Majeed score *** was significantly better among the INFIX group than the EXFIX group in all three *** the final follow-up,both groups had no statistically significant difference according to the Majeed score;92.35 in the INFIX group and 90.99 in the EXFIX group(P=0.513).A lower surgical site infection rate was noticed in the INFIX group(P=0.007).CONCLUSION Anterior subcutaneous pelvis INFIX is associated with better radiological outcomes and a lower infection rate than anterior supra-acetabular EXFIX in managing patients with unstable anterior pelvic

Classification of electroencephalogram(EEG)signals for humans can be achieved via artificial intelligence(AI)***,the EEG signals associated with seizure epilepsy can be detected to distinguish between epileptic and non-epileptic *** this perspective,an automated AI technique with a digital processing method can be used to improve these *** paper proposes two classifiers:long short-term memory(LSTM)and support vector machine(SVM)for the classification of seizure and non-seizure EEG *** classifiers are applied to a public dataset,namely the University of Bonn,which consists of 2 classes–seizure and *** addition,a fast Walsh-Hadamard Transform(FWHT)technique is implemented to analyze the EEG signals within the recurrence space of the ***,Hadamard coefficients of the EEG signals are obtained via the ***,the FWHT is contributed to generate an efficient derivation of seizure EEG recordings from non-seizure EEG ***,a k-fold cross-validation technique is applied to validate the performance of the proposed *** LSTM classifier provides the best performance,with a testing accuracy of 99.00%.The training and testing loss rates for the LSTM are 0.0029 and 0.0602,respectively,while the weighted average precision,recall,and F1-score for the LSTM are 99.00%.The results of the SVM classifier in terms of accuracy,sensitivity,and specificity reached 91%,93.52%,and 91.3%,*** computational time consumed for the training of the LSTM and SVM is 2000 and 2500 s,*** results show that the LSTM classifier provides better performance than SVM in the classification of EEG ***,the proposed classifiers provide high classification accuracy compared to previously published classifiers.

Promising supercapacitor electrodes based immobilization of proteins onto macroporous Ni foam materials

Immobilizing biocomponents on solid surfaces is a critical step in the development of new devices for future biological, medical, and elec- tronic applications. Therefore, numerous integrated films were recently developed by immobilizing different proteins or enzymes on electrode surfaces. In this work, hemeproteins were safely immobilized onto macroporous nickel-based electrodes while maintaining their functionality. Such modified electrodes showed interesting pseudo-capacitive behavior. Among hemeproteins, hemoglobin （Hb） film has a higher electro- chemical performance and greater charge/discharge cycling stability than myoglobin （Mb） and cytochrome C （CytC）. The heme group in an alkaline medium could induce the formation of superoxides on the electrode surface. These capacitive features of hemeprotein-Ni electrode were related to strong binding sites between hemeproteins and porous Ni electrode, the accumulation of superoxide or radicals on the Ni sur- face, and facile electron transfer and electrolyte diffusion through the three-dimensional macroporous network. Thus, these new protein-based supercapacitors have potential use in free-standing platform technology for the development of implantable energy-storage devices.
