a.va.ces in fa.rica.ion of mesoscopic membra.e sensors with unique structures a.d morphologies inside a.odic a.umina.membra.e （a.M） na.ocha.nels ha.e led to the development of va.ious methods for detecting, visua.izing, a.sorbing, filtering, a.d recovering ultra.tra.e concentra.ions of toxic meta. ions, such a. Hg^2＋ a.d Pb^2＋, in wa.er a.d blood. These often ＂one-pot＂ screening methods offer a.va.ta.es over conventiona. methods in tha. they do not require sophistica.ed instruments or la.orious sa.ple prepa.a.ion. In the present study, we fa.rica.ed two mesoscopic membra.e sensors for na.ed-eye detection, recognition, filtra.ion, a.d recovery of Hg^2＋ a.d Pb^2＋ in biologica. a.d environmenta. sa.ples. These sensors were cha.a.terized by the dense immobiliza.ion of orga.ic colora.ts on the mesopore surfa.es of silica.na.otubes tha. were constructed using the na.ocha.nels of a. a.M a. a.sca.fold. We confirmed tha. the na.otubes were oriented a.ong the long a.is of the a.M na.ocha.nels, open a. both ends, a.d completely a.d uniformly filled with orga.ic colora.ts; a.so, the dense immobiliza.ion of the orga.ic colora.ts did not a.fect the speed of ion-to-liga.d binding events. We used simple, desk-top, flow-through a.sa.s to a.sess the suita.ility of the developed membra.e sensors for detection, remova., a.d filtra.ion of Hg^2＋ a.d Pb^2＋ with respect to recycla.ility a.d continuous monitoring. Remova. of the ta.get ions from biologica. fluids wa. a.sessed by mea.s of flow cytometric a.a.ysis. Our results demonstra.e the potentia. of our membra.e sensors to be used for preventing the hea.th risks a.socia.ed with exposure to toxic meta. ions in the environment a.d blood.

Immobilizing biocomponents on solid surfa.es is a.critica. step in the development of new devices for future biologica., medica., a.d elec- tronic a.plica.ions. Therefore, numerous integra.ed films were recently developed by immobilizing different proteins or enzymes on electrode surfa.es. In this work, hemeproteins were sa.ely immobilized onto ma.roporous nickel-ba.ed electrodes while ma.nta.ning their functiona.ity. Such modified electrodes showed interesting pseudo-ca.a.itive beha.ior. a.ong hemeproteins, hemoglobin （Hb） film ha. a.higher electro- chemica. performa.ce a.d grea.er cha.ge/discha.ge cycling sta.ility tha. myoglobin （Mb） a.d cytochrome C （CytC）. The heme group in a. a.ka.ine medium could induce the forma.ion of superoxides on the electrode surfa.e. These ca.a.itive fea.ures of hemeprotein-Ni electrode were rela.ed to strong binding sites between hemeproteins a.d porous Ni electrode, the a.cumula.ion of superoxide or ra.ica.s on the Ni sur- fa.e, a.d fa.ile electron tra.sfer a.d electrolyte diffusion through the three-dimensiona. ma.roporous network. Thus, these new protein-ba.ed superca.a.itors ha.e potentia. use in free-sta.ding pla.form technology for the development of impla.ta.le energy-stora.e devices.

Ba.kground: Left ventricula. size is a.fa.tor independently a.socia.ed with increa.ed morta.ity in mitra. surgery, pa.ticula.ly, in the setting of ischemic mitra. regurgita.ion (IMR). In some pa.ients with dila.ed ventricles, reverse remodelling does not occur, with a.high risk of residua. or recurrent mitra. regurgita.ion a.d therefore a.socia.ed with worse outcome. We conducted multi-centers retrospective observa.iona. study on a.cohort of pa.ients who ha. combined Ca.G a.d mitra. surgery for modera.ely severe IMR to correla.e a.rela.ionship between periopera.ive left ventricula. dimensions to postopera.ive morta.ity ra.es in both genders. Results: 287 pa.ients ha. combined Ca.G a.d mitra. va.ve surgery. The exclusion criteria.were pa.ients with very low function Conclusion: Fa.lure of ea.ly ventricula. remodeling with persistently eleva.ed end systolic dimensions is a.risk fa.tor for postopera.ive dea.h in both genders. Fema.es gender will ha.e a. a.ditiona. higher risk if the end dia.tolic dimensions rema.n eleva.ed.
