Importance:The impact of long-term burden of excessive body weight,beginning in childhood,on inflammatory status in adulthood has been poorly described.Objective:To characterize the longitudinal body mass index(BMI)trajectory from childhood and examine its relationship with inflammatory status in adulthood.Methods:We included 1285 adults who had 4-15 repeat measurements of BMI from childhood to adulthood.The area under the curve(AUC)of growth curves was calculated to characterize long-term burden(total AUC)and trends(incremental AUC)of BMI.Results:After adjusting for covariates,higher values of BMI in terms of childhood and adulthood,as well as total and incremental AUC,were strongly associated with elevated levels of adult C-reactive protein(CRP)in the four race-sex groups.There were significant differences in linear and nonlinear curve parameters between the normal and high CRP groups for all race-sex groups(P<0.01).Compared with participants who had consistently low BMI in both childhood and adulthood,participants with high BMI in adulthood had higher CRP levels(P<0.001),irrespective of their childhood BMI status;participants with high BMI in childhood but low BMI in adulthood had similar adult CRP levels.Interpretation:The impact of excessive body weight on inflammation is cumulative and exacerbated over time.The influence of childhood overweight/obesity on inflammatory status in adulthood can be alleviated by reducing adiposity in adulthood.

Sluggish oxygen evolution reaction(OER)and oxygen reduction reaction(ORR)kinetics inevitably impede the practical performance of rechargeable zinc-air batteries.Thus,combing the structural designability of transition metal-based electrocatalysts with anionic regulation is highly desired.Herein,mesoporous lamellar-stacked cobalt-based nanopiles with surface-sulfurization modification are elaborately designed and integrated with N/S co-doped graphene to build a robust OER/ORR bifunctional electrocatalyst.The lamellar-stacking mode of mesoporous nanosheets with abundant channels accelerates gas-liquid mass transfer,and partial-sulfurization of cobalt-based matrix surface efficiently improves the intrinsic OER activity.Meanwhile,N/S co-doped graphene further reinforces the ORR active sites while providing a stable conductive skeleton.As expected,this composite electrocatalyst delivers considerable bifunctional activity and stability,with an OER overpotential of 323 m V at 10 m A cm^(-2)and high durability.When applied in zinc-air batteries,remarkable ultralong-term stability over 4000 cycles and a maximum power density of 150.1 m W cm^(-2)are achieved.This work provides new insight into structurecomposition synergistic design of rapid-kinetics OER/ORR bifunctional electrocatalyst for nextgeneration metal-air batteries.

Early filiform needle acupuncture for poststroke depression: a meta-analysis of 17 randomized controlled clinical trials

OBJECTIVE： To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of filiform needle acupuncture for poststroke depression, and to compare acupuncture with the therapeutic efficacy of antidepressant drugs. DATA RETRIEVAL： We retrieved data from the Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure （1979-2012）, Wanfang （1980-2012）, VIP （1989-2012）, Chinese Biomedical literature （1975- 2012）, PubMed （1966-2012）, Ovid Lww （-2012）, and Cochrane library （-2012） Database using the internet. SELECTION CRITERIA： Randomized controlled trials on filiform needle acupuncture versus antidepressant drugs for treatment of poststroke depression were included. Moreover, the in- cluded articles scored at least 4 points on the Jadad scale. Exclusion criteria： other acupuncture therapies as treatment group, not stroke-induced depression patients, score 〈 4 points, non-ran- domized controlled trials, or animal trials. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES： These were the Hamilton Depression Scale scores, clinical ef- fective rate, Self-Rating Depression Scale scores, Side Effect Rating Scale scores, and incidence of adverse reaction and events. RESULTS： A total of 17 randomized controlled clinical trials were included. Meta-analysis results displayed that after 4 weeks of treatment, clinical effective rate was better in patients treated with fill- form needle acupuncture than those treated with simple antidepressant drugs [relative risk = 1.11, 95% confidence interval （C/）： 1.03-1.21, P = 0.01]. At 6 weeks, clinical effective rate was similar between filiform needle acupuncture and antidepressant drug groups. At 2 weeks after filiform needle acupuncture, Hamilton Depression Scale （17 items） scores were lower than in the antide- pressant drug group （mean difference = -2.34, 95%CI： -3.46 to -1.22, P 〈 0.000,1）. At 4 weeks, Hamilton Depression Scale （24 items） scores were similar between filiform needle acupuncture and antidepressant drug groups. 采用LC-MS为基础的代谢组学技术,研究蒺藜果提取物对大脑中动脉阻塞(MCAO)致缺血性脑中风(IS)大鼠的保护作用。30只大鼠随机分为假手术组、模型组和给药组,以大鼠神经症状评分和脑缺血面积百分比为指标,评价蒺藜果提取物对IS大鼠的保护作用。基于LC-MS的非靶向代谢组学的方法对大鼠尿液进行研究,获取蒺藜果提取物可调控IS的差异代谢物,并对其进行代谢通路分析。蒺藜果提取物能显著降低MCAO大鼠的神经症状评分和脑梗死面积;通过分析模型组和假手术组尿液代谢谱,筛选并鉴定出差异代谢物20个,主要涉及3条代谢通路。蒺藜果提取物主要通过调控缬氨酸、亮氨酸及异亮氨酸的生物合成、三羧酸酸循环(TCA循环)和叶酸生物合成起到抗IS的作用,为临床应用提供理论依据。

One hundred and five patients with primary unipolar depression were randomly divided into three groups： drug group （Seroxat administration）, acupuncture group （Seroxat plus acupunc- ture）, and electroacupuncture group （Seroxat plus acupuncture plus electroacupuncture）. Patients＇ symptoms were evaluated using a psychometric questionnaire, the Symptom Check- list-90, before intervention and after 2, 4, 6 and 10 weeks of treatment. The individual factor scores and the total score from the Symptom Checldist-90 reduced in all three groups as treat- ment progressed. In the acupuncture and electroacupuncture groups, the total score and the factor scores for obsessive-compulsive symptoms, depression, and anxiety were significantly lower than those in the drug group. There was no significant difference in the factor scores or total scores between the acupuncture and electroacupuncture groups. Some factor scores in the electroacupuncture group, such as somatization, depression, hostility, and phobic anxiety, were increased at 10 weeks compared with the respective score immediately after the course of electroacupuncture at 6 weeks. Our findings indicate that administration of Seroxat alone or in combination with acupuncture/electroacupuncture can produce a significant effect in patients with primary unipolar depression. Furthermore, acupuncture/electroacupuncture has a rapid onset of therapeutic effect and produces a noticeable improvement in obsessive-compulsive, de- pressive and anxiety symptoms.

Remarkable difference of phospholipid molecular chirality in regulating PrP aggregation and cell responses

Prion diseases are fatal neurodegenerative diseases that can cause severe dementia.The misfolding and accumulation of the prion peptide (PrP)_(106–126) is crucial,and this process is closely relevant to biological membranes.However,how PrP_(106–126)aggregation is affected by the molecular chirality of phospholipid membrane is unknown.Thus,in this study,a pair of L-and D-aspartic acid (Asp)-modified 1,2-dipalmitoyl-sn–glycero-3-phosphoethanolamine (DPPE) were synthesized to construct chiral liposomes.We discover that L-Asp-DPPE liposomes strongly inhibit the oligomerization and amyloidogenesis of PrP_(106–126),whether acting on monomers or oligomers,which rescues cytotoxicity induced by PrP_(106–126).By comparison,D-Asp-DPPE liposomes inhibit peptide oligomerization only at a high concentration and cannot prevent amyloidogenesis when acting on oligomers,which lead to pronounced cytotoxicity.Apoptosis experiment,dynamic change of intracellular Ca^(2+)(_(i)Ca^(2+)) and Ca^(2+)release from endoplasmic reticulum(ER),reactive oxygen species (ROS) production,adsorption dynamics and affinity tests,and fluorescent imaging clearly disclose that molecular chirality of the liposomes dominates conformational transition of PrP_(106–126)from random coil to β-sheet,binding and adsorption of the monomers and oligomers,and subsequent fibrillation process,resulting in distinct inhibition effect in Ca^(2+)overload and release,ROS production and cell apoptosis.This work is the first to report that interfacial molecular chirality is a potentially crucial influence on the fibrillation process of PrP_(106–126) and its cell responses,whereas the convergence of chiral amino acids and liposomes can be considered potential inhibitors in prion diseases.

Effect of li and Ti additions on Lα(AI)+Mg2Si pseudobinary eutectic reaction in ternary Al-Mg-Si system has been investigated by thermoanalysis, directional solidification and metallographic techniques in this study. It has been found that li addition causes decreasing of the volume fraction of Mg2Si, while a little amount of Ti causes to increasing, which is of a great importance to the adjustment of phase constitution and alloy properties. Doping components have little influence on the eutectic temperature.
