Repeated inoculation with rumen fluid accelerates the rumen bacterial transition with no benefit on production performance in postpartum Holstein dairy cows

Background The dairy cow’s postpartum period is characterized by dramatic physiological changes,therefore imposing severe challenges on the animal for maintaining health and milk output.The dynamics of the ruminal microbiota are also tremendous and may play a crucial role in lactation launch.We aim to investigate the potential benefits of early microbial intervention by fresh rumen microbiota transplantation(RMT)and sterile RMT in postpartum dairy cows.Twelve fistulated peak-lactation dairy cows were selected to be the donors for rumen fluid collection.Thirty postpartum cows were divided into 3 groups as the transplantation receptors respectively receiving 10 L fresh rumen fluid(FR),10 L sterile rumen fluid(SR),or 10 L saline(CON)during 3 d after calving.Results Production performance,plasma indices,plasma lipidome,ruminal microbiome,and liver transcriptome were recorded.After fresh and sterile RMT,we found that the molar proportion of propionic acid was increased on d 7 in the FR and SR groups and the bacterial composition was also significantly changed when compared with the CON group.A similarity analysis showed that the similarities between the CON group and FR or SR group on d 7 were 48.40%or 47.85%,whereas the similarities between microbiota on d 7 and 21 in the FR and SR groups were 68.34%or 66.85%.Dry matter intake and feed efficiency were not affected by treatments.Plasmaβ-hydroxybutyrate concentration in the FR group was decreased and significantly different lipids mainly included phosphatidylcholine and lysophosphatidylcholine containing polyunsaturated fatty acids.Hepatic transcriptomics analysis indicated acutephase response pathways were upregulated in the SR group.Conclusions Our study suggests that RMT can shorten the transition process of the ruminal microbiota of postpartum dairy cows with no benefit on dry matter intake or feed efficiency.Inoculation with rumen fluid may not be a useful approach to promote the recovery of postpartum dairy cows.

Training Generative Adversarial Networks with Adaptive Composite Gradient

The wide applications of Generative adversarial networks benefit from the successful training methods,guaranteeing that an object function converges to the local minimum.Nevertheless,designing an efficient and competitive training method is still a challenging task due to the cyclic behaviors of some gradient-based ways and the expensive computational cost of acquiring the Hessian matrix.To address this problem,we proposed the Adaptive Composite Gradients(ACG)method,linearly convergent in bilinear games under suitable settings.Theory analysis and toy-function experiments both suggest that our approach alleviates the cyclic behaviors and converges faster than recently proposed SOTA algorithms.The convergence speed of the ACG is improved by 33%than other methods.Our ACG method is a novel Semi-Gradient-Free algorithm that can reduce the computational cost of gradient and Hessian by utilizing the predictive information in future iterations.The mixture of Gaussians experiments and real-world digital image generative experiments show that our ACG method outperforms several existing technologies,illustrating the superiority and efficacy of our method.

This paper presents a learning-based control policy design for point-to-point vehicle positioning in the urban environment via BeiDou navigation.While navigating in urban canyons,the multipath effect is a kind of interference that causes the navigation signal to drift and thus imposes severe impacts on vehicle localization due to the reflection and diffraction of the BeiDou signal.Here,the authors formulated the navigation control system with unknown vehicle dynamics into an optimal control-seeking problem through a linear discrete-time system,and the point-to-point localization control is modeled and handled by leveraging off-policy reinforcement learning for feedback control.The proposed learning-based design guarantees optimality with prescribed performance and also stabilizes the closed-loop navigation system,without the full knowledge of the vehicle dynamics.It is seen that the proposed method can withstand the impact of the multipath effect while satisfying the prescribed convergence rate.A case study demonstrates that the proposed algorithms effectively drive the vehicle to a desired setpoint under the multipath effect introduced by actual experiments of BeiDou navigation in the urban environment.

Resonant Beam Communications:A New Design Paradigm and Challenges

Resonant beam communications (RBCom), which adopts oscillating photons between two separate retroreflectors for information transmission, exhibits potential advantages over other types of wireless optical communications (WOC). However, echo interference generated by the modulated beam reflected from the receiver affects the transmission of the desired information. To tackle this challenge, a synchronization-based point-to-point RBCom system is proposed to eliminate the echo interference, and the design for the transmitter and receiver is discussed. Subsequently,the performance of the proposed RBCom is evaluated and compared with that of visible light communications(VLC)and free space optical communications (FOC). Finally, future research directions are outlined and several implementation challenges of RBCom systems are highlighted.

Influence of Micro/Nano-Ti Particles on the Corrosion Behavior of AZ31-Ti Composites

Adding Ti particles to magnesium alloy simultaneously enhances its strength and ductility.However,how these particles influence on Mg alloy’s corrosion performance is seldom reported.The corrosion behavior of AZ31-Ti composites containing titanium nanoparticles(1.5 and 5 wt%)and micron particles(10 wt%)prepared by powder metallurgical in 3.5 wt%NaCl solution was investigated.The results indicate that Ti particles serve as the primary location for the cathodic hydrogen reduction reaction,resulting in intense galvanic corrosion between the Ti and Mg matrix.Ti nanoparticles distributed at the interface of the original AZ31 powder were in a discontinuous mesh structure,thus failing to act as a barrier against corrosion.The corrosion products with the existence of numerous cracks gradually peel off during the corrosion process and cannot protect the matrix.The average corrosion rate P_(w) of AZ31,AZ31-1.5%Ti,AZ31-5%Ti,and AZ31-10%Ti after 7 days of immersion is 27.55,105.65,283.67,and 99.35 mm/y,respectively.Therefore,AZ31-Ti composites can be considered as potential candidates for degradable fracturing tools.Otherwise,it is recommended to improve their corrosion resistance through surface treatment.

Migration Behavior of Impurity Iron in Silicon Melt Under Pulsed Electric Current

The impurity iron in silicon material will seriously affect the photoelectric conversion efficiency of silicon solar cells.However,the traditional silicon purification method has the disadvantages of long cycle,high energy consumption and serious pollution.In this study,an efficient and green pulsed electric current purification technology is proposed.The electromigration effect of iron elements,the current density gradient driving of iron phase,and the gravity of iron phase all affect the migration behavior of iron phase in silicon melt under pulsed electric current.Regardless of the depth of electrode insertion into the silicon melt,the solubility of iron in silicon decreases under the pulsed electric current,which helps to form the iron phase.At the same time,the iron phase tends to sink toward the bottom under the influence of gravity.When the electrode is shallowly inserted,a non-uniform electric field is formed in the silicon melt,and the iron phase is mainly driven by the current density gradient to accelerate sink toward the bottom.When the electrode is fully inserted,an approximately uniform electric field is formed in the silicon melt,and iron elements are preferentially migrated to the cathode by electromigration,forming iron phase sinking at the cathode.The study of impurity iron migration behavior in silicon melt under pulsed electric current provides a new approach for the purification of polycrystalline silicon.

This study analyzed and summarized in detail the spatial and temporal distributions of earthquakes,tidal responses,focal mechanisms,and stress field characteristics for the M 7.3 Haicheng earthquake sequence in February 1975.The foreshocks are related to the main fault and the conjugate faults surrounding the extension step-over in the middle.The initiation timing of the foreshock clusters and the original time of the mainshock were clearly modulated by the Earth's tidal force and coincided with the peak of dilational volumetric tidal strain.As a plausible and testable hypothesis,we proposed a fluid-driven foreshock model,by which all observed seismicity features can be more reasonably interpreted with respect to the results of existing models.Together with some other known examples,the widely existing step-over along strike-slip faults and associated conjugate faults,especially for extensional ones in the presence of deep fluids,favor the occurrence of short-term foreshocks.Although clustered seismicity with characteristics similar to those of the studied case is not a sufficient and necessary condition for large earthquakes to occur under similar tectonic conditions,it undoubtedly has a warning significance for the criticality of the main fault.Subsequent testing would require quantification of true/false positives/negatives.

Image Recognition Model of Fraudulent Websites Based on Image Leader Decision and Inception-V3 Transfer Learning

The fraudulent website image is a vital information carrier for telecom fraud.The efficient and precise recognition of fraudulent website images is critical to combating and dealing with fraudulent websites.Current research on image recognition of fraudulent websites is mainly carried out at the level of image feature extraction and similarity study,which have such disadvantages as difficulty in obtaining image data,insufficient image analysis,and single identification types.This study develops a model based on the entropy method for image leader decision and Inception-v3 transfer learning to address these disadvantages.The data processing part of the model uses a breadth search crawler to capture the image data.Then,the information in the images is evaluated with the entropy method,image weights are assigned,and the image leader is selected.In model training and prediction,the transfer learning of the Inception-v3 model is introduced into image recognition of fraudulent websites.Using selected image leaders to train the model,multiple types of fraudulent websites are identified with high accuracy.The experiment proves that this model has a superior accuracy in recognizing images on fraudulent websites compared to other current models.

Vascularized lymph node transfer using axilla as recipient site restores lymphatic flow in upper limb lymphedema: Evidence from magnetic resonance lymphangiography

Background: Lymphedema is a debilitating condition that frequently occurs after breast cancer treatment. Vascularized lymph node transfer(VLNT) is a promising approach to reduce lymphedema. This study used magnetic resonance lymphangiography(MRL) to assess lymphatic reconnections post-VLNT in patients with breast cancerrelated lymphedema(BCRL).Methods: The clinical records of six female patients with unilateral upper limb BCRL who underwent VLNT(4cases) or VLNT combined with breast reconstruction(2 cases) were retrospectively reviewed. All patients were examined using MRL preoperatively and at the 1-year follow-up. The morphological characteristics of the lymphatic network, dermal backflow patterns, and architecture of the lymph nodes were evaluated. Clinical outcomes, patient satisfaction, and complications were assessed.Results: At the 1-year follow-up, reduction in tissue edema and limb circumference was achieved in all six patients.In MRL, the implanted lymph nodes in the axillary region of the affected upper arm were enhanced and visualized in all six patients. Reconnected lymphatic vessels in the subcutaneous tissue associated with the implanted lymph nodes were observed in four patients. Decreased dermal backflow and lymphatic vessel dilation of the affected limbs were observed in all six patients. No disruption of the lymph flow in the donor area was detected.Conclusion: This is the first study to provide direct imaging evidence for the reconnection of afferent lymphatic channels between implanted lymph nodes and the recipient lymphatic system in patients with BCRL. Overall, our study demonstrates the mechanism and efficacy of VLNT in reducing lymphedema.
