Glandular trichomes of plants produce a wide variety of secondary metabolites which are considered as major defensive chemicals. The capitate glandular trichomes of Oenothera glazioviana(Onagraceae) were collected with laser microdissection and analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The volatile compound 4-hydroxy-4-methylpentan-2-one(1) was identified. We found that compound 1 displays antimicrobial, insecticidal, and phytotoxic activities. These results suggest that compound 1 might function as a defensive compound in the capitate glandular trichomes of O. glazioviana against pathogens, insect herbivores, and presumably competitive plants as well.

Developing algorithms based on lip contour estimation is a distinctive trend in lip segmentation which is the first step of visual speech recognition. In order to establish an optimized estimation of lip contour that is complex enough to describe the principal features of the lip but at the same time simple enough to be implemented,the selection of lip model, estimator as well as parameters for features of lips, including the horizontal length of snake of feature points and horizontal distance between these feature points will be optimized. Experimental result demonstrates that the optimized estimation method of lip contour provides more accurate and more stable results of lip segmentation.

Two chimeric sesterterpene synthases(Aa TPS1 and Aa TPS2)were functionally characterized from Alternaria alternata MB-30 isolated from the leaves of a sesterterpenoid-producing Lamiaceae plant Leucosceptrum *** TPS1 generated a 5/8/6/5 tetracyclic sesteraltererol(1)and its absolute stereochemistry was determined by X-ray crystallographic analysis of its derivative 10,11-epoxysesteraltererol(2),which enabled revision of the absolute configuration of C7 of sesterfisherol produced by Nf SS and PTTS014 characterized previously and its derivative 10,*** TPS2 produced a 5/15 bicyclic preterpestacin I(3).Site-directed mutagenesis suggested that F192 in Aa TPS1 was likely involved in controlling of the hydroxylation of C12,and eight amino acids were important for the enzyme activity of Aa TPS1 and Aa *** engineered Escherichia coli and Saccharomyces cerevisiae strains were constructed for the productions of compounds 1 and 3,and the highest titer of compound 1 reached 62.3 mg/L in shake-flask *** compounds 1 and 2 showed anti-adipogenic activity.

The purpose of present work is to examine the financial problem of finding the universal reservation prices of a European call option written on exchange rate when there is proportional transaction costs of trading foreign currency in the market. An approach is suggested to compute the reservation bid-ask price of foreign currency call option based on maximizing the investor＇s expected utility. Option prices are determined from the investor＇s basic portfolio selection problem, without the need to solve a more complex optimization problem involving the insertion of the option payoffs into the terminal value function. Option prices are computed numerically in a Markov chain approximation for the case of exponential utility. Numerical results show that the option price bounds are almost independent of the alternative risk aversion parameter, but the bounds of NT region becomes narrower and the range of values of the initial holding for which the fair price lies within the bid-ask spread is shifted to a lower value when the risk aversion parameter increases.

This paper presents a dynamic probabilistic marking algorithm with multiple routing address tags, which allows the vic- tim to traceback the origin of ICMP （Internet Control Message Pro- tocol）-based direct and reflective DoS attacks. The proposed ap- proach makes full use of scalable data space of ICMP packet to achieve multiple information tags. The difference between this pro- posal and previous proposals lies in two points. First, the number of packets needed by the victim to reconstruct the attack path is greatly reduced because of three key mechanisms： multi-tag, uniform left- over probability, and tag location choice based on the module of accommodated tag numbers within a packet. Second, the true origin of both direct and reflective ICMP-based DoS attacks can be traced.

Sugar-sugar glycosyltransferases play important roles in constructing complex and bioactive ***,we characterized a series of UDP-glycosyltransferases responsible for biosynthesizing the branched sugar chain of bioactive steroidal saponins from a widely known medicinal plant Paris polyphylla *** them,a 2'-O-rhamnosyltransferase and three 6'-O-glucosyltrasferases catalyzed a cascade of glycosylation to produce steroidal diglycosides and triglycosides,*** UDP-glycosyltransferases showed astonishing substrate promiscuity,resulting in the generation of a panel of 24 terpenoid glycosides including 15 previously undescribed compounds.A mutant library containing 44 variants was constructed based on the identification of critical residues by molecular docking simulations and protein model alignments,and a mutant UGT91AH1^(Y187A)with increased catalytic efficiency was *** steroidal saponins exhibited remarkable antifungal activity against four widespread strains of human pathogenic fungi attributed to ergosterol-dependent damage of fungal cell membranes,and 2'-O-rhamnosylation appeared to correlate with strong antifungal *** findings elucidated the biosynthetic machinery for their production of steroidal saponins and revealed their potential as new antifungal agents.

The discovery of biological activities of natural products plays a vital part in drug *** mechanism by which organisms respond to temperature changes via biosynthesis of natural products remained largely cryptic.A thermophilic fungus under cold stress turned black and accumulated a polyketide metabolite 1 and lipid *** in 1 caused melanin loss and accumulated extra lipid mass,unexpectedly leading to seriously damaged mitochondria diagnostic for *** analysis revealed that lipid mass induced by cold stress intensively increased ferroptosis risk and 1 functioned as cell wall reinforcer against mass lipid accumulation and as reactive oxygen species scavenger against lipid *** also found that melanin in mice lowered lipid level but enhanced animal resistance to cold *** with melanin precursors significantly increased mouse cell survival rate under cold *** results unveiled a metabolite-lipid-ferroptosis-cold relationship,which provided mechanistic insights into the functions of most common metabolites and into diseases related to cold *** findings opened a perspective for developing anti-cold and anti-ferroptosis therapeutics and agents.
