Influence of Interfacial Enantiomeric Grafting on Melt Rheology and Crystallization of Polylactide/Cellulose Nanocrystals Composites

Incorporating the surface-grafted cellulose nanocrystals(CNCs)with enantiomeric polylactide(PLLA or PDLA)is an effective and sustainable way to modify PLLA,but their difference in promoting matrix crystallization is still unrevealed.In this study,the CNCs with identical content and length of PLLA and PDLA(CNC-g-L and CNC-g-D)were prepared and blended with PLLA.The rheological properties of PLLA/CNC-gD are greatly improved,indicating that the stereocomplexation can significantly improve the interfacial strength as compared with the conventional van der Waals force in PLLA/CNC-g-L.Surprisingly,the matrix crystallizes at a higher rate in PLLA/CNC-g-L than PLLA/CNC-g-D.PLLA/CNC-g-L15 reaches its half crystallinity in 8.26 min while a longer period of 13.41 min is required for PLLA/CNC-g-D15.POM observation reveals that the superior crystallization behavior in PLLA/CNC-g-L is originated from its higher nucleation efficiency and faster growth rate.The formation of low content of sc-PLA at the interface can restrict the diffusion of PLLA but contribute less to generate crystalline nuclei,which synergistically leads to the retarded crystallization kinetics in PLLA/CNC-g-D.Revealing the mechanism of different interfacial enantiomeric grafting on the melt rheology and crystallization of PLLA is of great significance for the development of high-performance polylactide materials.

Optimization of iron ore blending based on replacing Australian low alumina limonite

Mauritanian iron ore powder(OM)has advantages of high iron grade,low aluminum content,and low loss on ignition,which can be used as a new mineral to replace low alumina limonite that has been exhausted in Australia.However,it will have a certain negative impact on sintering because of its high SiO_(2) content.The mechanism of SiO_(2) content affecting the sintering behavior was first studied through FactSage 7.2.Then,the liquid fluidity,penetration,and high-temperature performance of different iron ore powders were compared.Finally,the optimization of ore blending structure was studied by the micro-sintering method and the sinter pot test.The results show that the increase in SiO_(2) content can reduce the assimilation temperature.The low penetration of OM can lead to an increase in the amount of liquid,and the high SiO_(2) content of OM increases the viscosity of the liquid phase.What is more,the increase in SiO_(2) also increases the formation of silicate and fayalite phase and inhibits the formation of silico-ferrite of calcium and aluminum(SFCA).To optimize ore blending structure,OM and the low SiO_(2) powder OD from Australia were used together,which improves the content of SFCA by 2.04%and decreases the contents of calcium silicate and fayalite by 0.63%and 4.99%,respectively.The results of the sinter pot test indicated that the properties of sinter have been improved.

Analysis of operational parameters affecting denitrification rate of sintering flue gas in cross-flow activated coke purification facility

The denitrification rate of the cross-flow activated coke flue gas purification facility varies with operational parameters. According to the simulated experiments, the denitrification rate with the height drop of the denitrification unit experiences 100%, rapid decreasing, and gradual rising to the equilibrium. According to the correlation analysis results based on production data, several operational parameters affecting the denitrification rate have been obtained. The denitrification rate has negative relationships with the activated coke bed temperature, the flue gas flow, the H2O content, the SO2 content and the NH3 slip, and has positive relationships with the O2 content, the NOx content, the NH3–NOx molar ratio, the flue gas pressure and the regeneration temperature. Properly increasing the sintering air leakage or the cooling air added into flue gas is beneficial to increase the denitrification rate. Priority should be given to O2, NH3–NOx molar ratio and flue gas flow to improve the denitrification rate. Additionally, a linear model, which had been validated, was developed and can be used to predict and control the denitrification rate.

Properties change of activated coke for sintering flue gas purification in cyclic removal of SO_(2) and NO_(x)

The properties of activated coke(AC)for sintering flue gas purification greatly affect the efficiency of desulfurization and denitration,but they gradually change during cycles.The change in properties of coal-based AC during cycles was studied to clarify the change law and AC optimization index.The AC oxygen content rapidly increases 13.49 to 17.87 wt.%in the early cycles to form phenol,which promotes the denitration rate 55.63%to 78.20%.The denitration performance slowly increases in subsequent cycles becaof the generation of quinone AC slow oxidation.However,the oxygen-containing groups are not conducive to adsorption capacity of AC for NO.The adsorbed NO species which can be replaced SO2 is the main NO species on AC,and its amount decreases with the decrease in CC content of AC.The AC chemical loss leads to the opening of closed pores,expansion of original pores and formation of new pores,causing micropore volume to increase 0.085%to 0.152%,compressive strength to decrease 472 to 336 N,and abrasive resistance to decrease 97.87%to 94.16%during cycles.The low oxygen content and high micropore volume are favorable to the initial desulfurization performance,and the former is more decisive.After a while,the desulfurization rate is linearly positively correlated with the micropore volume regardless of the chemistry.4-h desulfurization rate increased 69.03%to 85.91%during 25 cycles due to the increasing micropore volume.The AC properties change in cycles will greatly affect the desulfurization and denitration rate in the height direction of the flue gas purification system.Selecting the coal-based AC with moderate micropore volume,easy oxidation surface and less original oxygen-containing groups facilitates the better purification efficiency at lower cost for sintering plants.

Strengthening granulation behavior of specularite concentrates based on matching of characteristics of iron ores in sintering process

Specularite concentrates have advantages of high ferrous grade, less harmful impurities and low price. However, the small size and poor granulation behavior of specularite concentrates consequently deteriorate the permeability of sinter bed and reduce the productivity of sinter, resulting in un-effective utilization in sintering process. The granulation experiments were carried out when specularite concentrates matched with five kinds of fine or coarse ores, and the effects of surface property and wettability of fine or coarse ores on granulation behavior of specularite concentrates were investigated. Then, the optimized ore blending recipes were proposed to strengthen the granulation behavior of specularite concentrates. The results indicated that the growth index increased with increasing the specific surface area of fine ores and had a positive linear correlation with the circularity degree of coarse ores, whereas negative correlations exist between the growth index and the contact angle of fine or coarse ores. Compared with the concentrates, the growth index increased by approximately 22% scheme of blended ores containing 15 mass% specularite in the case of using Ore-A and Ore-E with greater surface property and higher wettability to replace all of Ore-B and half of Ore-D, respectively. Furthermore, the vertical sintering speed and the productivity of sinter improved by approximately 23% and 20%, respectively.

Reduction of NO_(x)emission based on optimized proportions of mill scale and coke breeze in sintering process

Reducing NO_(x) emission of iron ore sintering process in a cost effective manner is a challenge for the iron and steel industry at present.Effects of the proportion of mill scale and coke breeze on the NO_(x) emission,strength of sinter,and sinter indexes were studied by com-bustion and sinter pot tests.Results showed that the peak value of NO concentration,total of NO emission,and fuel-N conversion rate gradu-ally decreased as the proportions of the mill scale increased because NO was reduced to N_(2) by Fe_(3)O_(4),FeO,and Fe in the mill scale.The strength of sinter reached the highest value at 8.0wt%mill scale due to the formation of minerals with low melting point.The fuel-N conver-sion rate slightly fluctuated and total NO_(x) emission significantly decreased with the decreased proportions of coke breeze because CO forma-tion and content of N element in the sintered mixture decreased.However,the sinter strength also decreased due to the decrease in the amount of the melting minerals.Furthermore,results of the sinter pot tests indicated that NO_(x) emission decreased.The sinter indexes performed well when the proportions of mill scale and coke breeze were 8.0wt%and 3.70wt%respectively in the sintered mixture.

Ore-blending optimization for Canadian iron concentrate during iron ore sintering based on high-temperature characteristics of fines and nuclei

Canadian iron concentrate(CIC)can elevate the ferrous grade and lower the contents of gangue components and harmful elements in the sinter.To understand high-temperature characteristics of CIC and typical iron ore,the formation of the melt was calculated mainly through FactSage 7.2,and melt fluidity(MF)test for iron ore fines and penetration characteristic test of CIC melt into iron ore nuclei were carried out via micro-sintering method.The results show that hematite,calcium ferrites,dicalcium silicate,and magnetite take part in the formation of the melt in N2.The formation temperature of the liquid for CIC is higher than that for hematite/limonite ore.The MF of CIC is lower than that of hematite/limonite ore fines.The MF of hematite/limonite ore fines is dominated by the liquid amount and melt viscosity.The penetration depth(PD)of CIC melt into limonite ore nuclei is smaller than that into hematite ore nuclei.The PD is related to the reaction ability of the nuclei with the melt.Based on above results,sinter pot tests were conducted.The result shows that in the base ore blends including two hematite ores and two limonite ores,adding CIC deteriorates the sintering indexes.Increasing the proportion of high-MF and small-PD hematite ore can significantly improve the sintering indexes.10 mass%is a suit-able proportion for adding CIC in ore blends.

Ore-blending optimization model for sintering process based on characteristics of iron ores

An ore-blending optimization model for the sintering process is an intelligent system that includes iron ore characteristics, expert knowledge and material balance. In the present work, 14 indices are proposed to represent chemical composition, granulating properties and high temperature properties of iron ores. After the relationships between iron ore characteristics and sintering performance are established, the ＂two-step＂ method and the simplex method are introduced to build the model by distinguishing the calculation of optimized blending proportion of iron ores from that of other sintering materials in order to improve calculation efficiency. The ore-blending optimization model, programmed by Access and Visual Basic, is applied to practical production in steel mills and the results prove that the present model can take advantage of the available iron ore resource with stable sinter yield and quality performance but at a lower cost.

Development and application of coke oven gas spraying on sinter bed

The Shanghai Meishan Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. has a large supply of coke oven gas (COG) and has the potential to develop and apply the spraying of COG on the surface of a sinter bed. The effects of the amount of COG, the spraying time, and the spraying distribution with the process on the quantity and quality indexes of sinter were investigated in the laboratory experi-ments. The results showed that the COG spraying can improve the sinter indexes to a large extent if appropriate parameters were used. It was found that an appropriate amount of COG, a relatively long spraying time, and a decreasing distribution of the COG amount with the spraying process all help to obtain a better performance for sinter quantity and quality indexes. When the COG spraying was applied to the No. 3 sintering machine, the sinter tumbler index increased by 0.45%, the overall finished product rate increased by 0.72%, the solid fuel consumption decreased by 4.06kg/t, the reducibility increased by 3.89%, and the cost of iron decreased by 5.29 CNY/t, and the CO2, SO2 and Nox emissions also decreased, thus proving the feasibility of this technology. Therefore, COG spraying provides a new way to improve sinter and also decrease the energy consumption and pollution.

Influencing factors and mechanism of water absorption process of iron ores during sintering

The appropriate content and distribution of sinter moisture play an important role in the granulation of iron ores. In this study, the effects of porosity, size distribution, and particle shape on the water absorption rate （WAR） of four types of iron ores were analyzed by using the immersion method and capillary water absorption method. In addition, the mechanism underlying the water absorption process in iron ores was unraveled. It is found that the WARs of iron ores decrease quickly with the increase in water absorption time at the initial stages of water absorption. With further increase in absorption time, the WARs decrease gradually, until near 0. Iron ores with higher porosity, smaller particle size, and plate-like structure have the higher WARs. Compared with pores in the single-particle iron ore, voids among particles in the multi-particle iron oxide play an important role at the initial stages of water absorption. The water absorption mechanism of all single-particle and multi-particle iron ores analyzed in this study includes four steps, wherein the first three steps play a significant role in the sintering pro-cess.
