Understanding the failure mechanism towards developing high-voltage single-crystal Ni-rich Co-free cathodes

Benefited from its high process feasibility and controllable costs,binary-metal layered structured LiNi_(0.8)Mn_(0.2)O_(2)(NM)can effectively alleviate the cobalt supply crisis under the surge of global electric vehicles(EVs)sales,which is considered as the most promising nextgeneration cathode material for lithium-ion batteries(LIBs).However,the lack of deep understanding on the failure mechanism of NM has seriously hindered its application,especially under the harsh condition of high-voltage without sacrifices of reversible ***,singlecrystal LiNi_(0.8)Mn_(0.2)O_(2) is selected and compared with traditional LiNi_(0.8)Co_(0.1)Mn_(0.1)O_(2)(NCM),mainly focusing on the failure mechanism of Cofree cathode and illuminating the significant effect of Co element on the Li/Ni antisite defect and dynamic ***,the presence of high Li/Ni antisite defect in NM cathode easily results in the extremely dramatic H2/H3 phase transition,which exacerbates the distortion of the lattice,mechanical strain changes and exhibits poor electrochemical performance,especially under the high cutoff ***,the reaction kinetic of NM is impaired due to the absence of Co element,especially at the single-crystal ***,the negative influence of Li/Ni antisite defect is controllable at low current densities,owing to the attenuated ***,Co-free NM can exhibit better safety performance than that of NCM *** findings are beneficial for understanding the fundamental reaction mechanism of single-crystal Ni-rich Co-free cathode materials,providing new insights and great encouragements to design and develop the next generation of LIBs with low-cost and high-safety performances.

Coronary artery disease （CAD） is the leading cause of cardiovascular death in the Chinese *** angiography is the golden standard for the diagnosis of CAD and coronary tortuosity （CT） is a common coronary angiographic finding, however, little work has been done on clinical manifestation and significance of CT. Soil phosphorus dynamic, balance and critical P values in longterm fertilization experiment in Taihu Lake region, China

Phosphorus（P） is an important macronutrient for plant but can also cause potential environmental risk. In this paper, we studied the long-term fertilizer experiment（started 1980） to assess the soil P dynamic, balance, critical P value and the crop yield response in Taihu Lake region, China. To avoid the effect of nitrogen（N） and potassium（K）, only the following treatments were chosen for subsequent discussion, including： C0（control treatment without any fertilizer or organic manure）, CNK treatment（mineral N and K only）, CNPK（balanced fertilization with mineral N, P and K）, MNK（integrated organic manure and mineral N and K）, and MNPK（organic manure plus balanced fertilization）. The results revealed that the response of wheat yield was more sensitive than rice, and no significant differences of crop yield had been detected among MNK, CNPK and MNPK until 2013. Dynamic and balance of soil total P（TP） and Olsen-P showed soil TP pool was enlarged significantly over consistent fertilization. However, the diminishing marginal utility of soil Olsen-P was also found, indicating that high-level P application in the present condition could not increase soil Olsen-P contents anymore. Linear-linear and Mitscherlich models were used to estimate the critical value of Olsen-P for crops. The average critical P value for rice and wheat was 3.40 and 4.08 mg kg^（–1）, respectively. The smaller critical P value than in uplands indicated a stronger ability of P supply for crops in this paddy soil. We concluded that no more mineral P should be applied in rice-wheat system in Taihu Lake region if soil Olsen-P is higher than the critical P value. The agricultural technique and management referring to activate the plant-available P pool are also considerable, such as integrated use of low-P organic manure with mineral N and K.

In-Plane and Out-of-Plane Mechanical Properties of Zero Poisson’s Ratio Cellular Structures for Morphing Application

Intelligent structures like zero Poisson’s ratio(ZPR)cellular structures have been widely applied to the engineering fields such as morphing wings in recent decades,owing to their outstanding characteristics including light weight and low effective modulus. In-plane and out-of-plane mechanical properties of ZPR cellular structures are investigated in this paper. A theoretical method for calculating in-plane tensile modulus,in-plane shear modulus and out-of-plane bending modulus of ZPR cellular structures is proposed,and the impacts of the unit cell geometrical configurations on in-plane tensile modulus,in-plane shear modulus and out-of-plane bending modulus are studied systematically based on finite element(FE)simulation. Experimental tests validate the feasibility and effectiveness of the theoretical and FE analysis. And the results show that the in-plane and out-of-plane mechanical properties of ZPR cellular structures can be manipulated by designing cell geometrical parameters.

Corticosterone rapidly promotes respiratory burst of mouse peritoneal macrophages via non-genomic mechanism

Background The immunomodulatory effects of glucocorticoids （GCs） have been described as bimodal. High concentration of GCs exerts immunosuppressive effects and low levels of GCs are immunopermissive. While the immunosuppressive mechanisms of GCs have been investigated intensely, the immunopermissive effects of GCs remain unclear. A lot of studies showed GCs could exert rapid non-genomic actions. We herein studied the rapid immunopromoting effects of *** We observed the rapid （within 30 minutes） effects of corticosterone on respiratory burst of mouse peritoneal macrophages and studied their mechanisms. The superoxide anions were measured by cytochrome C reduction *** kinase C phosphorylation was measured by Western blotting and membrane fluidity was evaluated by fluorescence polarization *** The 10-8 mol/L and 10-7 mol/L corticosterone rapidly increased the superoxide anions production by macrophages, which were insensitive to GC-receptor antagonist, mifepristone, and protein-synthesis inhibitor,cycloheximide. Corticosterone coupled to bovine serum albumin was able to mimic the effects of corticosterone. The effects were independent of protein kinase C pathway and the change in membrane *** The results indicate that corticosterone rapidly promote the superoxide anions production by mouse peritoneal macrophages may through non-genomic mechanisms. This study may contribute to understanding the effects of GCs under stress condition and the physiological significance of nongenomic effects of GCs.

A retrospective study of echocardiographic cardiac function and structure in adolescents with congenital scoliosis

Background Patients with congenital scoliosis often also have intraspinal abnormalities and other organ defects, and few studies of the effects of congenital scoliosis on cardiac function and structure have been published. Methods A total of 215 adolescent patients with congenital scoliosis （average age, 13.58 years） underwent preoperative echocardiography and were then assigned to subgroups according to apex vertebral rotation, side of convexity, curvature severity in the coronal and sagittal planes, type of deformity, and sex. Differences between the subgroups were compared by independent-samples ttest or a one-factor analysis of variance. Results We observed statistically significant differences between patients with right-sided scoliosis curvature and those with left-sided scoliosis curvature, respectively, in left ventricular inner diameter at end-diastole （（39.39±4.66）mm vs （41.74±4.90）mm）, left ventricular inner diameter at end-systole （（24.80±3.45）mm vs （25.92±3.07）mm）, interventricular septum thickness at end-diastole （（5.66±0.98）mm vs （5.98±1.03）mm）, and posterior wall of left ventricle at end-diastole （（5.61±0.98）mm vs （6.06±1.20）mm）. When the patients were evaluated by coronal plane Cobb angle, significant differences were found between those with Cobb angle of 40°-80° and of 〉80° in left ventricular inner diameter at end-diastole （（40.97±5.06）mm vs （38.98±4.45）mm） and left ventricular inner diameter at end-systole （（25.53±3.39）mm vs （24.36±3.14）mm）, respectively. When the patients were evaluated by sagittal plane Cobb angle （〈20°, group 1; 20°-40°, group 2; 〉40°, group 3）, significant differences were found in right ventricular diameter between those with Cobb angle of 〈20° and of 20°-40° （（18.27±3.66）mm vs （16.54±3.57）mm） and in diameter of aortic root between those with Cobb angle of 20°-40° and of 〉40° （（23.83±3.39）mm vs （24.90±3.30）mm）, respectively. Kinetics of Phosphatase of Regenerating Liver-3(PRL-3) Inhibition by Small-molecular Inhibitors

Phosphatase of Regenerating Liver-3 （PRL-3） is a newly identified colorectal cancer metastasis-related protein, which is a 22 kDa non-classical protein tyrosine phosphatase with a C-terminal prenylation motif. In this study, the inhibition kinetics of protein tyrosine phosphatases（PTPs） by a fluorescent substrate, 6,8-difluoro-4-methylumbelliferyl phosphate（DiFMUP） was evaluated. PRL-3 exhibits classical Michaelis-Menten kinetics with a Vmax value of 11.3 μmol · L^-l · min^-1 Analysis of PRL-3 by a Michaelis-Menten plot and a double-reciprocal plot indicated that the inhibitor magnolol can cause Km to increase, but does not alter the Vmax value, which suggests the competitive inhibition of PRL-3. At the same time, it was found that DiFMUP is a more sensitive substrate for PRL-3 than para-nitrophenyl phosphate（pNPP） that is more frequently used at present. Furthermore, the method of screening for PTPs by the use of DiFMUP was developed, which studied the acceptance of DiFMUP by other PTPs.

Na-ion batteries(NIBs)have received significant interest as potential candidates for large-scale energy storage owing to the widespread distribution of sodium and superior low-temperature ***,their commercial application is usually hindered by the high production cost and inadequate performance for electrode materials,particularly for ***_(3)(VOPO_(4))_(2)F(NVOPF)has been recognized as one of the most promising cathodes for high-energy NIBs owing to the high working voltage and energy ***,we report a facile highly efficient room-temperature solution protocol for large-scale synthesis of NVOPF cathode for *** simply regulating pH,NVOPF can be obtained,which delivered a discharge capacity of 120.2 mAh g^(-1) at 0.1 C and 72%capacity retention over 8000 cycles at 25 ***,the kilogram-level NVOPF products have been synthesized,and 26650 cylindrical cells were fabricated,which exhibit excellent cycling stabilities,remarkable lowtemperature performance with comparable safety *** hope our findings could provide insights on the industrial application of NVOPF in NIBs.

Numerical Simulation and Experimental Verification of Temperature Distribution of Piezoelectric Stack with Heating and Thermal Insulation Device

This paper discusses the temperature field distribution of piezoelectric stack with heating and thermal insulation device in cryogenic temperature environment. Firstly,the model of the piezoelectric damper is simplified and established by using partial-differential heat conduction equation. Secondly,the two-dimensional Du Fort-Frankel finite difference scheme is used to discretize the thermal conduction equation,and the numerical solution of the transient temperature field of piezoelectric stack driven by heating film at different positions is obtained by programming iteration. Then,the cryogenic temperature cabinet is used to simulate the low temperature environment to verify the numerical analysis results of the temperature field. Finally,the finite difference results are compared with the finite results and the experimental data in steady state and transient state,respectively. Comparison shows that the results of the finite difference method are basically consistent with the finite element and the experimental results,but the calculation time is shorter. The temperature field distribution results obtained by the finite difference method can verify the thermal insulation performance of the heating system and provide data basis for the temperature control of piezoelectric stack.

Effects of heme oxygenase-1 gene modulated mesenchymal stem cells on vasculogenesis in ischemic swine hearts

Background Mesenchymal stem cells （MSCs） transplantation may partially restore heart function in the treatment of acute myocardial infarction （AMI）. The aim of this study was to explore the beneficial effects of MSCs modified with heme xygenase-1 （HO-1） on post-infarct swine hearts to determine whether the induction of therapeutic angiogenesis is modified by the angiogenic cytokines released from the implanted *** In vitro, MSCs were divided into four groups：（1） non-transfected MSCs （MSCs group）, （2） MSCs transfected with the pcDNA3.1-Lacz plasmid （Lacz-MSCs group）, （3） MSCs transfected with pcDNA3.1-hHO-1 （HO-1-MSCs group）,and （4） MSCs transfected with pcDNA3.1-hHO-1 and pretreatment with an HO inhibitor, tin protoporphyrin （SnPP）（HO-1-MSCs＋SnPP group）. Cells were cultured in an airtight incubation bottle for 24 hours, in which the oxygen concentration was maintained at 〈1%, followed by 12 hours of reoxygenation. After hypoxia/reoxygen treatment, ELISA was used to measure transforming growth factor （TGF-β） and fibroblast growth factor （FGF-2） in the supernatant. In vivo,28 Chinese mini-pigs were randomly allocated to the following treatment groups：（1） control group （saline）, （2）Lacz-MSCs group, （3） HO-1-MSCs group, and （4） HO-1-MSCs ＋ SnPP group. About 1×107 of autologous stem cells or an idertical volume of saline was injected intracoronary into porcine hearts 1 hour after MI. Magnetic resonance imaging （MRI） assay and postmortem analysis were assessed four weeks after stem cell *** Post hypoxia/reoxygenation in vitro, TGF-β in the supernatant was significantly increased in the HO-1-MSCs （（874.88±68.23） pg/ml） compared with Lacz-MSCs （（687.81±57.64） pg/ml, P 〈0.001）.
