Concrete is the m.st widely utilized m.terial for construction purposes, second only to water, in the ever-increasing need for construction globally. Concrete is a brittle m.terial and possesses a high risk of crack form.tion and consequent deterioration. Cracking, which allows chem.cals to enter and can cause concrete structures to lose their physico-m.chanical and durability features. Repairing and rehabilitating concrete structures involves high costs and leads to various repair m.thods including coating, adhesives, polym.rs, supplem.ntary cem.ntitious m.terials (SCm.), and fibers. One of the latest technologies is the use of m.croorganism. in concrete. These added m.croorganism. lead to calcite precipitation and thereby heal the cracks effectively. This study presents a com.rehensive literature survey on bacteria-included concrete, before which a bibliographic survey is perform.d using VOSViewer software. In addition to regular bacterial concrete, this study focuses on also using SCm. and fibers in bacterial concrete. A detailed literature review with data representation for various m.chanical properties including com.ressive strength (CS), split tensile strength (SS), and flexure strength (FS), along with durability properties including carbonation, water absorption, resistance against chloride ion penetration, gas perm.ation, and resistance against cyclic freeze-and-thaw is presented. A study on the use of X-ray com.uted tom.graphy (XCT) in bacterial concrete is highlighted, and the scope for future research, along with identification of the research gap, is presented.

Facile synthesis of sam.rium.and cerium.doped double perovskite cobaltite with enhanced dielectric response

Biotransform.tion of 6:2 fluorotelom.r sulfonate (6:2 FTS) in sulfur-rich m.dia by Tram.topsis cervina

Biotransform.tion of 6:2 fluorotelom.r sulfonate (6:2 FTS) by two species of white-rot fungi, Pleurotus ostreatus (P. ostreatus) and Tram.topsis cervina (T. cervina), was investigated in a sulfur-rich m.dium.designed to stim.late production of lignin-degrading enzym.s. Degradation of 6:2 FTS was observed by T. cervina over the study period of 30 d, but not by P. ostreatus. Biotransform.tion rates were com.arable to those found in other studies investigating m.xed culture degradation in non-sulfur lim.ting m.dia, with approxim.tely 50 m.l% of applied 6:2 FTS rem.ved after 30 d. Stable transform.tion products were short-chain perfluorocarboxylic acids (PFCAs), including PFHxA (2.27 m.l%), PFPeA (0.24 m.l%), and PFBA (0.28 m.l%). The m.in interm.diate products include 5:2 sFTOH (16.3 m.l%) and 5:3 FTCA (2.99 m.l%), while 6:2 FTCA, 6:2 FTuCA, and 5:2 ketone were also identified at low levels. Approxim.tely 60 m.l% of detected products were assigned to the m.jor pathway to 5:2 ketone, and 40 m.l% were assigned to the m.nor pathway to 5:3 FTCA. The overall m.lar balance was found to decrease to 75 m.l% by Day 30, however, was closed to near 95 m.l% with a theoretical estim.tion for the volatile interm.diates in the headspace, 5:2 ketone and 5:2 sFTOH. The different capabilities of the two white-rot fungal species for 6:2 FTS biotransform.tion in sulfur-rich m.dia suggest that the enzym. processes of T. cervina to de-sulfonate 6:2 FTS m.y be unrelated to sulfur m.tabolism. Evaluation of m.chanical Properties and Surface Quality of Wood from.Bosnia and Herzegovina Exposed to Outdoor Conditions

This study investigated the m.chanical properties of beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) and fir (Abies alba) wood from.Bosnia and Herzegovina under outdoor exposure. Sam.les were exposed for 3-m.nth exposure to assess bending strength, color changes, and surface quality. Results showed outdoor exposure negatively affected m.chanical properties, particularly in sam.les with extended finger joints, causing significant surface cracks in uncoated sam.ples. Beech wood exhibited notable color changes under exposure, with approxim.tely 50% darkening without coating com.ared to 25% under covered conditions. Coated sam.les displayed m.nim.l color changes, affirm.ng the efficacy of surface treatm.nt. Fir wood exhibited a roughness of 8.264 μm. while beechwood average roughness increased from.6.767 to 13.916 μm.after exposure, with m.cro-pore developm.nt affecting water perfor-m.nce. m.croscopic analysis identified prevalent fungal colonies, including Penicillium. Aureobasidium. Sclerophom., and Chaetom.um. underscoring their role in organic m.tter decom.osition. This study highlights the im.ortance of wood exposure and treatm.nt selection for various applications. © 2024 The Authors.

Interfacial stress engineering toward enhancem.nt of ferroelectricity in Al doped HfO2 thin film.

Ferroelectric HfO2 has attracted m.ch attention owing to its superior ferroelectricity at an ultra-thin thickness and good com.atibility with Si-based com.lem.ntary m.tal-oxide-sem.conductor (Cm.S) technology. However, the crystallization of polar orthorhom.ic phase (o-phase) HfO2 is less com.etitive, which greatly lim.ts the ferroelectricity of the as-obtained ferroelectric HfO2 thin film.. Fortunately, the crystallization of o-phase HfO2 can be therm.dynam.cally m.dulated via interfacial stress engineering. In this paper, the growth of im.roved ferroelectric Al doped HfO2 (HfO2:Al) thin film. on (111)-oriented Si substrate has been reported. Structural analysis has suggested that nonpolar m.noclinic HfO2:Al grown on (111)-oriented Si substrate suffered from.a strong com.ressive strain, which prom.ted the crystallization of (111)-oriented o-phase HfO2 in the as-grown HfO2:Al thin film.. In addition, the in-plane lattice of (111)-oriented Si substrate m.tches well with that of (111)-oriented o-phase HfO2, which further therm.lly stabilizes the o-phase HfO2. Accordingly, an im.roved ferroelectricity with a rem.ant polarization (2P(r)) of 26.7 m. C/cm.2) has been obtained. The results shown in this work provide a sim.le way toward the preparation of im.roved ferroelectric HfO2 thin film..

Towards Im.roving the Quality of Requirem.nt and Testing Process in Agile Software Developm.nt: An Em.irical Study

Software testing is a critical phase due to m.sconceptions about am.iguities in the requirem.nts during specification, which affect the testing process. Therefore, it is difficult to identify all faults in software. As requirem.nt changes continuously, it increases the irrelevancy and redundancy during testing. Due to these challenges; fault detection capability decreases and there arises a need to im.rove the testing process, which is based on changes in requirem.nts specification. In this research, we have developed a m.del to resolve testing challenges through requirem.nt prioritization and prediction in an agile-based environm.nt. The research objective is to identify the m.st relevant and m.aningful requirem.nts through sem.ntic analysis for correct change analysis. Then com.ute the sim.larity of requirem.nts through case-based reasoning, which predicted the requirem.nts for reuse and restricted to error-based requirem.nts. Afterward, the apriori algorithm.m.pped out requirem.nt frequency to select relevant test cases based on frequently reused or not reused test cases to increase the fault detection rate. Furtherm.re, the proposed m.del was evaluated by conducting experim.nts. The results showed that requirem.nt redundancy and irrelevancy im.roved due to sem.ntic analysis, which correctly predicted the requirem.nts, increasing the fault detection rate and resulting in high user satisfaction. The predicted requirem.nts are m.pped into test cases, increasing the fault detection rate after changes to achieve higher user satisfaction. Therefore, the m.del im.roves the redundancy and irrelevancy of requirem.nts by m.re than 90% com.ared to other clustering m.thods and the analytical hierarchical process, achieving an 80% fault detection rate at an earlier stage. Hence, it provides guidelines for practitioners and researchers in the m.dern era. In the future, we will provide the working prototype of this m.del for proof of concept. Concerns related to environm.ntal risks associated with pharm.ceuticals and personal care products (PPCPs) have led researchers to seek m.thods for assessing and m.nitoring these contam.nants in the aquatic environm.nt. Identifying and validating risk assessm.nt tools that can evaluate ecological concerns and risks associated with PPCPs is critical. Herein, the suitability of a dose-related risk and effect assessm.nt m.del, which estim.tes predicted environm.ntal concentrations and allowed com.arisons with predicted no effect concentrations determ.ned, in com.ination with in vitro analyses of the whole effluent toxicity, was verified for the characterization of a PPCP hazard. Concentrations of the m.st utilized PPCPs in Norway were m.asured in influent and effluent sam.les and used to param.terize the fate *** than 90% rem.val was attained for 12 out of 22 detected PPCPs. Rem.val was not dependent on the class or the concentration of the specific substance and varied between 12% and 100%. The PPCPs detected in the discharged wastewater were utilized to assess individual contributions to the risk of the effluent, and no risk was identified for the targeted 30 PPCP. The sim.lations provided valuable inform.tion regarding the discharge plum. distribution over tim., which can aid planning of future environm.ntal m.nitoring *** (using fish liver cells, PLHC-1) were used for assessing overall effluent toxicity, through cell viability, production of reactive oxygen species, and ethoxyresorufin-O-deethylase (EROD) *** present study m.y allow regulators to use risk-based strategies over rem.val criteria for m.nitoring studies and confirm. the im.ortance to take PPCP contam.nation into consideration when establishing environm.ntal regulations.
