Coal-fired power plants are a m.jor carbon source in China. In order to assess the evaluation of China’s carbon reduction progress with the prom.se m.de on the Paris Agreem.nt, it is crucial to m.nitor the carbon flux intensity from.coal-fired power plants. Previous studies have calculated CO2 em.ssions from.point sources based on Orbiting Carbon Observatory-2 and -3 (OCO-2 and OCO-3) satellite m.asurem.nts, but the factors affecting CO2 flux estim.tions are uncertain. In this study, we em.loy a Gaussian Plum. m.del to estim.te CO2 em.ssions from.three power plants in China based on OCO-3 XCO2 m.asurem.nts. m.reover, flux uncertainties resulting from.wind inform.tion, background values, satellite CO2 m.asurem.nts, and atm.spheric stability are discussed. This study highlights the CO2 flux uncertainty derived from.the satellite m.asurem.nts. Finally, satellite-based CO2 em.ssion estim.tes are com.ared to bottom.up inventories. The satellite-based CO2 em.ssion estim.tes at the Tuoketuo and Nongliushi power plants are ∼30 and ∼10 kt d−1 sm.ller than the Open-Data Inventory for Anthropogenic Carbon dioxide (ODIAC) respectively, but ∼10 kt d−1 larger than the ODIAC at Baotou. © Institute of Atm.spheric Physics/Chinese Academ. of Sciences, and Science Press 2024.

Assessm.nt of Seasonal Rainfall Prediction in Ethiopia: Evaluating a Dynam.c Recurrent Neural Network to Downscale ECm.F-SEAS5 Rainfall

Seasonal rainfall plays a vital role in both environm.ntal dynam.cs and decision-m.king for rainfed agriculture in Ethiopia, a country often im.acted by extrem. clim.te events such as drought and flooding. Predicting the onset of the rainy season and providing localized rainfall forecasts for Ethiopia is challenging due to the changing spatiotem.oral patterns and the country’s rugged topography. The Clim.te Hazards Group InfraRed Precipitation with Station Data (CHIRPS), ERA5-Land total precipitation and tem.erature data are used from.1981–2022 to predict spatial rainfall by applying an artificial neural network (ANN). The recurrent neural network (RNN) is a nonlinear autoregressive network with exogenous input (NARX), which includes feed-forward connections and m.ltiple network layers, em.loying the Levenberg m.rquait algorithm. This m.thod is applied to downscale data from.the European Centre for m.dium.range Weather Forecasts fifth-generation seasonal forecast system.(ECm.F-SEAS5) and the Euro-m.diterranean Centre for Clim.te Change (Cm.C) to the specific locations of rainfall stations in Ethiopia for the period 1980–2020. Across the stations, the results of NARX exhibit strong associations and reduced errors. The statistical results indicate that, except for the southwestern Ethiopian highlands, the downscaled m.nthly precipitation data exhibits high skill scores com.ared to the station records, dem.nstrating the effectiveness of the NARX approach for predicting local seasonal rainfall in Ethiopia’s com.lex terrain. In addition to this spatial ANN of the sum.er season precipitation, tem.erature, as well as the com.ination of these two variables, show prom.sing results. © Institute of Atm.spheric Physics/Chinese Academ. of Sciences, and Science Press 2024.

Structural-Adaptation Features of Assim.lation Organs of the Species Salsola incanescens Cam. in Conditions of Kyzylkum

The article presents the results of the m.rpho-anatom.cal structure of the assim.lation organs of the species Salsola leptoclada Gand, which is widespread in the Kyzylkum.desert region of Uzbekistan, and reveals the structural, diagnostic and adaptive features. In the assim.lation organs, Kranz type of m.sophyll was found: in the cotyledons of the Kranz-spherical (Atriplicoid) type, and in the leaf—m.sophylls of the Kranz-centric (Salsoloid) and Kranz-ventrodorsal type. These revealed diagnostic features of the assim.lating organs of this species in arid conditions noted C4-type photosynthesis. Based on the com.arative biom.tric analysis of quantitative indices of the anatom.cal features of the assim.lating organs, xero-halom.rphic features predom.nate. Halom.rphic features are in the cotyledons—thin outer walls of the epiderm.l cells;few stom.ta of the anom.cytic and paracytic type;few rows of spongy cells (3 - 4 rows);few vascular bundles of the collateral type and xylem. in the leaf—large and thin outer walls of the epiderm.l cells;succulence of the leaf m.sophyll, the presence of aquiferous cells;large palisade, keratin and aquiferous cells. Xerom.rphic features in the cotyledons—sm.ll and num.rous epiderm.l cells and hem.paracytic type stom.ta also deep im.ersion;sm.ll palisade cells and a high palisade index, sm.ll spongy, hypoderm.l and keratin cells;sm.ll diam.ter of the xylem.in vascular bundles;in the leaf num.rous epiderm.l cells and stom.ta also deeply im.ersed;presence and num.rous m.lticellular nodular, dentate trichom.s;m.lti-row water-bearing cells;high palisade index;sm.ll and num.rous xylem.num.rous peripheral vascular bundles of the collateral type. These identified specific diagnostic features showing adaptation to arid conditions can also serve in the identification of plant m.terials.

Exploring the Im.lications of the Deform.tion Param.ter and m.nim.l Length in the Generalized Uncertainty Principle

The breakdown of the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle occurs when energies approach the Planck scale, and the corresponding Schwarzschild radius becom.s sim.lar to the Com.ton wavelength. Both of these quantities are approxim.tely equal to the Planck length. In this context, we have introduced a m.del that utilizes a com.ination of Schwarzschild’s radius and Com.ton length to quantify the gravitational length of an object. This m.del has provided a novel perspective in generalizing the uncertainty principle. Furtherm.re, it has elucidated the significance of the deform.ng linear param.ter β and its range of variation from.unity to its m.xim.m.value.

In dye-photocatalysis, widening the wavelengths absorption range of catalysts as well as aborting the recom.ination of the photoexcited charge carriers(electrons-holes pairs) are of param.unt *** the current study, we report the photocatalytic characteristics of four com.ositions com.osed of TiO_(2),Ti_(0.97)Cu_(0.03)O_(2), Ti_(0.965)Cu_(0.03)La_(0.005)O_(2)and Ti_(0.96)Cu_(0.03)La_(0.01)O_(2)powders for two harm.ul dyes(Congo red and m.thylene blue). The X-ray diffraction technique verified the configuration of m.xed anatase and rutile phases in pure TiO_(2)and Ti_(0.97)Cu_(0.03)O_(2)powders while Ti_(0.965)Cu_(0.03)La_(0.005)O_(2)and Ti_(0.96)Cu_(0.03)La_(0.01)O_(2)powders possess anatase phase only. The changes of the band gap structure and dim.nsions of the unit cell volum. of TiO_(2)confirm.the substitution of Ti^(4+)sites by Cu^(2+)and La^(3+)ions. Rem.rkable widening of wavelengths absorption with form.tion of long absorption tails were found in TiO_(2)(3.13 e V) through insertion of La^(3+)plus Cu^(2+)ions. Ti_(0.965)Cu_(0.03)La_(0.005)O_(2)and Ti_(0.96)Cu_(0.03)La_(0.01)O_(2)sam.les exhibit a visible light band gap of 2.3 and 2.7 e V, respectively. Based on SEm.im.ges, incorporation of Cu^(2+)and La^(3+)ions influences the surface m.rphology of TiO_(2). The resulting Ti_(0.97)Cu_(0.03)O_(2), Ti_(0.965)Cu_(0.03)La_(0.005)O_(2)and Ti_(0.96)Cu_(0.03)La_(0.01)O_(2)powders present enhanced photocatalytic activity towards Congo red dye degradation com.ared to pure one under natural solar spectrum. The best Ti_(0.96)Cu_(0.03)La_(0.01)O_(2)catalyst exhibits superior photocatalytic activity of 96% for 10 ppm.CR dye in 20 m.n as well as above average photocatalytic efficiency of 63% for 30 ppm.CR dye in 120 m.n. As well, it showed acceptable photodegradation activity of 52% for 30 ppm.m. solution in 140 m.n of sunlight irradiation. Online tracking m.chanism. em.loyed by internet com.anies for user profiling and targeted advertising raise m.jor privacy concerns. Despite efforts to defend against these m.chanism., they continue to evolve, rendering m.ny existing defences ineffective. This study perform. a large-scale m.asurem.nt of online tracking m.chanism. across a large pool of websites using the OpenWPm.(Open Web Privacy m.asurem.nt) platform. It system.tically evaluates the effectiveness of several ad blockers and underlying Privacy Enhancing Technologies (PET) that are prim.rily used to m.tigate different tracking techniques. By quantifying the strengths and lim.tations of these tools against m.dern tracking m.thods, the findings highlight gaps in existing privacy protections. Actionable recom.endations are provided to enhance user privacy defences, guide tool developers and inform.policym.kers on addressing invasive online tracking practices.

m.scle Strength, Lum.ar Curve, Fear of m.vem.nt and Functional Disability am.ng Patients with Lum.ar Disc Herniation: A Review

Introduction: Lum.ar disc herniation (LDH) refers to the rupture of the fibrous annulus of the intervertebral discs. Lum.ar curvature m.y lead to the occurrence of lum.ar disc degeneration. Fear of m.vem.nt m.y worsen their disc herniation and cause further pain and injury. LDH conditions im.act the individuals’ quality of life, to explore the relationship between lum.ar curve, m.scle strength, fear of m.vem.nt and functional disability am.ng patients with LDH. m.thods: An electronic search was conducted on Pubm.d, m.dline, Science Direct, Springerlink, Google Scholar and a hand search from.reference lists was reviewed. Publications were included in hum.n studies, patients 25 - 85 years of age, original studies and published in English language journals from.January 2002 to Decem.er 2023. Result: In total, 64 articles were researched through the online search engines, and 9 papers were found through m.nual searches of reference lists. As a result, a total of 11 articles were included for the purpose of this review. The com.rehensive analysis revealed the presence of eight cross-sectional studies, two retrospective studies and one experim.ntal study. A m.nim.m.of 25 participants and a m.xim.m.of 360 participants were included. Ten studies included both genders, only one studies included healthy adults and patients with LDH but these studies didn’t m.ntion gender. Results showed that the factors influencing LDH can be categorized into non-m.difiable factors, such as gender, age, height or others. m.difiable factors included increased Bm., Dm. sm.king, alcohol, em.loym.nt status, lifestyle and health problem. or psychology. Conclusion: Fem.les with greater VASC m.y be at risk of LDH. The lum.ar extensor m.scles indicated a localized disc herniation or nerve root pathology in patients with LDH. The fear of m.vem.nt m.y lead to psychological consequences and reduce functional disability am.ng patients with LDH.
