Cu-Zn ferrite with general formula of Cu1-xZnxFe2 O4 with a range from x = 0.0 to 0.7 (in steps of 0.1) was prepared by using standard ceramic techniques. The confirmation of sin-gle-phase formation was carried out by employing X-ray diffraction technique. Some of the magnetic properties were measured, such as Curie temperature, the complex permeability and low field hysteresis loop. It was found that Curie temperature Tc decreases from 464?C to 20?C. The real part of initial permeability, μ′ in-crease with increasing Zn contents up to x = 0.5 after that it decreases with higher Zn content. Low field hysteresis measurement was carried out at room temperature and this measurement with the increase of Zn2+ ions yields the increase of saturation magnetic induction (By) and magnetic remanance (Br) up to x = 0.4 thereafter it decreases. The decrease in corecivity (Hc) and hysteresis loss is observed for all samples. In view of this, the possible changes in magnetic properties with the increase in Zn concentration are un-dertaken.

Co-rich Nd-Fe-B nanocomposite ribbons with Tb substituted have been fabricated by single roller melt spinning technique of Nd4-xTbxFe83.5Co5Cu0.5Nb1B6 (x = 0, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8 and 1) alloys in an argon (Ar) atmosphere at a circumferential speed of 40 m/s. According to the differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) traces the nanocomposite samples have been annealed at different temperatures like 675°C, 687°C, 700°C, 712°C and 725°C for 10 min. Crystallization behavior was studied by X-ray diffraction in which it was found that the XRD patterns are characterized by broad diffused pattern which demonstrate the amorphous state of materials. The ribbon samples were also characterized by vibration sample magnetometer (VSM) and Mössbauer spectroscopy at as-cast and annealed condition. Co-rich and Tb substitution has significantly enhanced the value of coercivity (Hc) and maximum energy product (BH)max. Highest value of Hc and (BH)max has been obtained as 2.36 kOe and 6.11 MGOe for the sample annealed at 700°C for 10 min with higher concentration of Tb. The M-H hysteresis loops show extremely soft natures which do not possess any area. We have found reduced remanent ratio (Mr/Ms) up to 0.49 at optimal annealing temperature 700°C. However, with the annealing of the samples in the above mentioned temperature, evolution of large coercivity was observed due to the formation of exchange couple hard and soft nanocrystal composites. We have investigated the variation of Curie temperature (Tc) with annealing temperature of the melt spun ribbon samples. Mossbauer spectroscopy was carried out to study the hyperfine parameters such as hyperfine field, hyperfine field distribution for full width half maximum (FWHM) and isomer shift of Fe species of these two phases.

Nanocrystalline Magnesium ferrite has been prepared by chemical co-precipitation technique. Structural characterization has been performed by X-ray diffraction. Formation of ferrites has also been studied by using FTIR. Frequency dependence of real and imaginary part of initial permeability has been presented for the samples sintered at different temperatures. Real part of initial permeability, increases with the increase of grain growth. The loss component repre- sented by imaginary part of initial permeability decreases with frequency up to the measured frequency of this study of 13 MHz. Curie temperatures have been determined from the temperature dependence of permeability. Curie temperatures for the samples of this composition do not vary significantly with the variation of sintering temperatures. B-H loop measurements have been carried out by B-H loop tracer. Transport property measurements haven been carried out by electrometer and impedance analyzer.

An experiment was meticulously conducted at the research field of Bangabandhu sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University (BSMRAU), Gazipur, Bangladesh, during the 2011-2012 potato growing season to develop integrated crop management practices for the potato seed production of industrial processing varieties Asterix and Courage. Significantly, higher growth and yield parameters were found in the BADC-recommended practice. Later, another experiment was conducted to validate the BADC practice during the 2013-2014 potato growing season in two locations in Bangladesh. Results showed that the production of tuber per hill, tuber weight per hill as well as gross tuber yield per plot, higher proportion of storable seed tubers, and more quality seed potatoes (A-grade and B-grade) seed tubers were found significantly higher in the “BADC developed practice” compared to other treatments. Viral diseases (PLRV and PVY) prevalence was lower in “BADC developed practice”. Moreover, “BADC developed practice” contributed more economic yield by minimizing input cost compared to “Munshiganj advanced farmers’ practice”. Therefore, the “BADC developed practice” was found “superior” regarding yield, quality, and profitability in seed potato production of industrial varieties—Asterix and Courage in Bangladesh.

Pattern of Eye Diseases among Tea Workers

Background: Bangladesh’s tea industry is essential to the country’s economic expansion. Since tea workers in Bangladesh are marginalized within our community, they have limited access to comprehensive eye care services. Productivity and well-being are cornerstones of comprehensive health care strategy. Ocular disorders are influenced by life expectancy, sociodemographic status, and the epidemiological transition. In this context, the state of ocular health and the many eye illnesses remain to be significantly addressed. Purpose: To evaluate the pattern of eye diseases among tea workers in a tea estate of Bangladesh. Methods: This cross-sectional observational study was carried out in Halda Valley Tea Estate, Nazirhat, Fatickchari, Chattogram, Bangladesh, under the supervision of the Department of Community Ophthalmology, BSMMU, following ethical clearance and approval by the IRB board of BSMMU. With informed written consent and approval from the authority of the tea estate, a total of 110 tea workers were recruited. Socio-demographic characteristics, ocular findings, and patterns of eye diseases were determined and recorded. Results: The mean age of the study participants was 39.60 ± 11.63 years. The maximum (58.1%) study participants were 31 - 50 years old, female (64.5%), illiterate (82.7%), and tribal (71.8%) indigenes. Eye diseases were found in 94.5% of workers. Presbyopia (28.2%), cataracts (27.3%), and refractive error (26.4%) were the most common. Tea workers with eye diseases were significantly older than those who did not have any eye diseases (40.20 ± 11.57 vs. 29.17 ± 7.31 years, p Conclusion: A significant number of tea workers had eye diseases, of which presbyopia, cataracts, and refractive error were the most common.

River bank erosion is a natural process that occurs when the water flow of a river exceeds the bank’s ability to withstand it. It is a common phenomenon that causes extensive land damage, displacement of people, loss of crops, and infrastructure damage. The Gorai River, situated on the right bank of the Ganges, is a significant branch of the river that flows into the Bay of Bengal via the Mathumati and Baleswar rivers. The erosion of the banks of the Gorai River in Kushtia district is not a recent occurrence. Local residents have been dealing with this issue for the past hundred years, and according to the elderly members of the community, the erosion has become more severe activities. Therefore, the main objective of this research is to quantify river bank erosion and accretion and bankline shifting from 2003 to 2022 using multi-temporal Landsat images data with GIS and remote sensing technique. Bank-line migration occurs as a result of the interplay and interconnectedness of various factors such as the degree of river-related processes such as erosion, transportation, and deposition, the amount of water in the river during the high season, the geological and soil makeup, and human intervention in the river. The results show that the highest eroded area was 4.6 square kilometers during the period of 2016 to 2019, while the highest accreted area was 7.12 square kilometers during the period of 2013 to 2016. However, the erosion and accretion values fluctuated from year to year.

Background: Following coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG), delirium emerges as a prevalent complication. This study aimed to assess the correlation between elevated serum cortisol levels and the occurrence of postoperative delirium subsequent to off-pump CABG. Methods: Conducted in the Department of Cardiac Surgery at BSMMU from October 2020 to September 2022, this comparative cross-sectional study included a total of 44 participants. Subjects, meeting specific criteria, were purposefully assigned to two groups based on off-pump CABG. Group A (n = 22) consisted of patients with normal serum cortisol levels, while Group B (n = 22) comprised individuals with high serum cortisol levels on the first postoperative day. Delirium onset was assessed at the bedside in the ICU on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th postoperative days using standard tools, namely the Richmond Agitation Sedation score (RASS) and The Confusion Assessment Method (CAM-ICU). Data were collected based on the presence or absence of delirium. Statistical analysis utilized SPSS version 26.0, employing an independent Student’s t-test for continuous data and chi-square and Fischer’s exact test for categorical data. A p-value ≤ 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: Group-A had a mean age of 54.50 ± 17.97, and Group-B had a mean age of 55.22 ± 15.45, both with a male predominance (81.81% and 86.36% respectively). The mean serum cortisol level was significantly higher in Group B (829.71 ± vs. 389.98 ± 68.77). Postoperative delirium occurred in 27.3% of Group B patients, statistically significant compared to the 4.5% in Group A. However, patients in Group B who developed delirium experienced significantly longer postoperative ICU and hospital stays (79.29 ± 12.27 vs. 11.44 ± 2.85, p ≤ 0.05). This research project investigates the current status of water supply, sanitation, and hygiene practices in Munshiganj District, Bangladesh. Data collection involved a structured questionnaire and a reconnaissance survey. Findings reveal that 30% of individuals rely on surface water (hand-tube wells, rivers, and ponds), prioritized as canal > river > pond, while 70% depend on groundwater (subterranean electric motor, deep tube-well). Drinking water is generally sufficient, with 95% reporting adequacy throughout the year. About 45% use hand tube-well water, 28% use deep tube-well water, and 11% use supply tap water for various purposes. Bathing trends include underground water through electric motor > pond > hand tube-well water > river, while for cooking, the order is underground water through electric motor > pond > hand tube-well water > river. Toilet water supply ranks as supply tap water > hand tube-well water > deep tube-well water. Although sanitation awareness is high, some lack knowledge of good hygiene practices. After defecating, handwashing methods include soap, ash, soil, or water. Children’s waste disposal varies, with some discarding it in open areas. Approximately 40% suffer from diseases like Diarrhoea due to unsafe water, primarily affecting children and elders. Training exists, but a significant portion lacks sanitation education. Dry skin or exposure to cold water may cause temporary irritation. Local government involvement in sanitation efforts is less active compared to non-governmental organizations. Results emphasize the need to enhance community awareness of safe water supplies and sanitation practices. .
