Urb.n and peri-urb.n agriculture plays.a key role b. providing many goods.and s.rvices. In particular, it provides.divers.fied food and employment for vulnerab.e groups.(youth and women). However, it often involves.negative externalities.due to non-conventional s.ils.fertility management practices. This.s.udy aimed to inves.igate the chemical quality of s.ils.over s.x (06) s.tes.of the market gardening area of b.b.-Dioulas.o (b.rkina Fas.) as.affected b. fertilizers.us.s.and s.tes.location. Thirty (30) repres.ntative market gardening farms. located in urb.n, s.mi-urb.n and rural areas. were randomly s.lected from a b.s.line s.rvey datab.s.. Within each farm, compos.te s.il s.mples.made up of 3 individual cores.were taken over the 0 - 15 cm s.il depth for determining s.ils.carb.n, total nitrogen, availab.e phos.horus.contents.and pH-water. Thes. data were normalized and s.mmarized to compute a s.nthetic s.il Fertility Index (s.I). The data proces.ing was.focus.d on a Principal Component Analys.s.and an As.endant Hierarchical Clas.ification in order to make a typology of the vegetab.e farms. Fertilizers.management effects.on s.ils.quality were compared through Variance Analys.s.(ANOVA) following a GLM procedure in Rs.udio s.ftware. As.main res.lts. s.ils.chemical parameters. except for availab.e K, were affected b. the location of the s.tes. s.ils.in urb.n farms.are les. acidic (on average pH = 6.9), while s.mi-urb.n and rural s.tes.(s.madeni, Nakaguana) have more acidic s.ils. However, the latter s.te had the highes. values.of C and N. Moreover, the long-term application of organic matter s.urces.res.lts.in improving of the chemical quality of the market garden s.il. The s.I is.pos.tively correlated with the rate of applied organic fertilizers. and the cultivation duration. On the other hand, s.il quality tends.to decreas. with the expans.on of the area, due to a dilution effect of the organic fertilizer dos.s. All thes. res.lts.s.gges. that there is.a real s.ope to
