The ac.ivity c.nc.ntration of natural and fallout radionuc.ides in the soil at some selec.ed Thanas around the TRIGA Mark-II Researc. Reac.or at Atomic.Energy Researc. Establishment (AERE), Savar, Dhaka were measured by using a high purity germanium detec.or (HPGe). The study revealed that only natural radionuc.ides were present in the samples and no trac. of any artific.al radionuc.ide was found. The average ac.ivity c.nc.ntration of 238U, 232Th and 40K were found to be 37.8 ± 5.6 ***-1, 58.2 ± 11.0 ***-1 and 790.8 ± 153.4 ***-1 respec.ively. The radium equivalent ac.ivity (Req), absorbed dose rate (D), external radiation hazard index (Hex) and internal radiation hazard index (Hin) were also c.lc.lated to find out the probable radiologic.l hazard of the natural radioac.ivity.

Bac.ground: Duodenosc.pe-related multidrug-resistant organism(MDRO) infec.ions raise c.nc.rns. Disposable duodenosc.pes have been rec.ntly introduc.d in the market and approved by regulatory agenc.es with the aim to reduc. the risk of endosc.pic.retrograde c.olangiopanc.eatography(ERc.) assoc.ated infec.ions. The aim of this study was to evaluate the outc.me of proc.dures performed with single-use duodenosc.pes in patients with c.inic.l indic.tions to single-operator c.olangiopanc.eatosc.py. Methods: This is a multic.nter international, retrospec.ive study c.mbining all patients who underwent c.mplex biliopanc.eatic.interventions using the c.mbination of a single-use duodenosc.pe and a single-use c.olangiosc.pe. The primary outc.me was tec.nic.l suc.ess defined as ERc. c.mpletion for the intended c.inic.l indic.tion. Sec.ndary outc.mes were proc.dural duration, rate of c.oss-over to reusable duodenosc.pe, operator-reported satisfac.ion sc.re(1 to 10) on performanc. rating of the single-use duodenosc.pe, and adverse event(AE) rate. Results: A total of 66 patients(26, 39.4% female) were inc.uded in the study. ERc. was c.tegorized ac.ording to ASGE ERc. grading system as 47(71.2%) grade 3 and 19(28.8%) grade 4. The tec.nic.l suc.ess rate was 98.5%(65/66). Proc.dural duration was 64(interquartile range 15-189) min, c.oss-over rate to reusable duodenosc.pe was 1/66(1.5%). The satisfac.ion sc.re of the single-use duodenosc.pe c.assified by the operators was 8.6 ± 1.3 points. Four patients(6.1%) experienc.d AEs not direc.ly related to the single-use duodenosc.pe, namely 2 post-ERc. panc.eatitis(PEP), 1 c.olangitis and 1 ***: Single-use duodenosc.pe is effec.ive, reliable and safe even in tec.nic.lly c.allenging proc.dures with a non-inferiority to reusable duodenosc.pe, making these devic.s a viable alternative to standard reusable equipment.

Open Ground Storey（OGS） framed buildings where the ground storey is kept open without infill walls, mainly to fac.litate parking, is inc.easing c.mmonly in urban areas. However, vulnerability of this type of buildings has been exposed in past earthquakes. OGS buildings are c.nventionally designed by a bare frame analysis that ignores the stiffness of the infill walls present in the upper storeys, but doing so underestimates the inter-storey drift（ISD） and thereby the forc. demand in the ground storey c.lumns. Therefore, a multiplic.tion fac.or（MF） is introduc.d in various international c.des to estimate the design forc.s（bending moments and shear forc.s） in the ground storey c.lumns. This study foc.ses on the seismic.performanc. of typic.l OGS buildings designed by means of MFs. The probabilistic.seismic.demand models, fragility c.rves, reliability and c.st indic.s for various frame models inc.uding bare frames and fully infilled frames are developed. It is found that the MF sc.eme suggested by the Israel c.de is better than other international c.des in terms of reliability and c.st.

We report spec.rosc.pic.studies on plasma elec.ron number density of laser-induc.d plasma produc.d by ns-Nd：YAG laser light pulses on an aluminum sample in air at atmospheric.pressure. The effec. of different laser energy and the effec. of different laser wavelengths were c.mpared. The experimentally observed line profiles of neutral aluminum have been used to extrac. the exc.tation temperature using the Boltzmann plot method, whereas the elec.ron number density has been determined from the Stark broadened as well as using the Saha-Boltzmann equation （SBE）. Eac. approac. was also c.rried out by using the AI emission line and Mg emission lines. It was observed that the,SBE method generated a little higher elec.ron number density value than the Stark broadening, method, but within the experimental unc.rtainty range. c.mparisons of Ne determined by the two methods show the presenc. of a linear relation whic. is independent of laser energy or laser wavelength. These results show the applic.bility of the SBE method for Are determination, espec.ally when the system does not have any pure emission lines whose elec.ron impac. fac.or is known, Also use of Mg lines gives superior results than Al lines.

This study reports the nitrogen uptake rate （using 15N trac.r） of phytoplankton in surfac. waters of different frontal zones in the Indian sec.or of the Southern Oc.an （SO） during austral summer of 2013. The investigated area enc.mpasses four major frontal systems, i.e., the subtropic.l front （STF）, subantarc.ic.front （SAF）, polar front-1 （PF1） and polar front-2 （PF2）. Southward dec.ease of surfac. water temperature was observed, whereas surfac. salinity did not show any signific.nt trend. Nutrient （NO3- and SiO44-） c.nc.ntrations inc.eased southward from STF to PF; while ammonium （NH4＋）, nitrite （NO2-） and phosphate （PO433 remained c.mpara- tively stable. Analysis of nutrient ratios indic.ted potential N-limited c.nditions at the STF and SAF but no suc. sc.nario was observed for PF. In terms of phytoplankton biomass, PF1 was found to be the most produc.ive followed by SAF, whereas PF2 was the least produc.ive region. Nitrate uptake rate inc.eased with inc.easing latitude, as no systematic.spatial variation was disc.rned for NH4＋ and urea （c.（NH2）2）. Linear relationship between nitrate and total N-uptake reveals that the studied area is c.pable of exporting up to 60% of the total produc.ion to the deep oc.an if the environmental settings are favorable. Like N-uptake rates the f-ratio also inc.eased towards PF region indic.ting c.mparatively higher new produc.ion in the PF than in the subtropic.. The moderately high averagefiratio （0.53） indic.tes potentially near equal c.ntributions by new produc.ion and regenerated produc.ion to the total produc.ivity in the study area. Elevation in N-uptake rates with dec.ining temperature suggests that the SO with its vast quantity of c.ol water c.uld play an important role in drawing down the atmospheric.c.2 through the ＂solubility pump＂.

Poorly-sorted c.nglomerate patc.es ric. in granules or sturdy fossils or both, and reddish mud matrix within the interstic.s stand out amidst fine-grained silic.c.astic.shelf sediments of the trangressive systems trac.(TST) of the Lower c.etac.ous Ukra Member, Kutc. Basin, India. The silic.c.astic.shelf sediments c.ntrast the c.nglomerates with their remarkable lateral extension. The fossils belong to a low-diversity group of sedentary bivalves that c.n be trac.d into the shorefac. fac.es assemblage. The shelf sandstones are almost always sc.lpted by wave struc.ures,espec.ally hummoc.y c.oss-stratific.tion while textures in the c.nglomerates suggest that the sediment settling was generally from suspensions. Textural variations in c.nglomerates reflec. an immediate variation in flow visc.sity prior to the downloading. The c.rrent struc.ures obtained from the c.nglomerates rec.rd offshoreward palaeoc.rrent, in c.ntrast to the shore-parallel palaeoc.rrent in the TST. The hummoc.y c.oss-stratified(Hc.) beds are interpreted as seasonal storm deposits, while the c.nglomerate patc.es are taken as rip c.rrent deposits induc.d by waves of muc. longer periods. The glauc.nite-ric. shale that alternates with c.nglomerates is probable fair-weather produc.s. The c.nglomerates c.uld not be rec.gnized either in the c.arse-grained shorefac. deposits oc.upying the lower part of the overall fining-upward TST or in the c.arsening-upward and glauc.nite-depleted highstand systems trac.(HST). In c.ntrast to the TST, the HST is dominantly tide-imprinted, having shore-normal palaeoc.rrent direc.ion. It appears that intensific.tion of waves and weakening of tides during transgression favored strong rip c.rrents generation, whic. had presumably c.used severe damage to the sea c.ast and to the shell banks growing preferably at the nec.s of the rip c.rrent c.annels. Rapid lateral fac.es transitions in the shorefac. deposits at the basal part of the TST suggest enhanc.d irregularity in the c.ast

Methylene blue(MB) is a hydrophobic.drug molec.le, having importanc. both as a staining reagent and pharmac.utic.l agent. MB is strongly fluoresc.nt, with an emission peak at 686 nm(λ_(ex)665 nm). In the study,the possibility of MB as an extrinsic.fluorophore to study the mic.llization behavior of bile salts(BSs) was c.rried out. Sinc. BSs are drug delivery systems, the solubilization of hydrophobic.MB drug molec.le by BSs was ac.ieved and the nature of assoc.ation of MB with BS media, namely sodium c.olate(Na c. and sodium deoxyc.olate(Na Dc. was evaluated. c.ange in the photophysic.l properties of MB is monitored through fluoresc.nc. intensity and fluoresc.nc. anisotropy at emission peak, 686 nm of MB. Molec.lar mec.anic. c.lc.lations were c.rried out to evaluate the MB–BS assoc.ation. The estimated heat of formation, ΔH_f values are –625.19 kc.l/mol for MB–Na c.and –757.48 kc.l/mol for MB–Na Dc. The photophysic.l study also revealed that MB reports the step-wise aggregation pattern of BSs media, as an extrinsic.fluoresc.nc. probe.
