Efficacy of laparoscopic low anterior resection for colorectal cancer patients with 3D-vascular reconstruction for left coronary artery preservation

BACKGROUND Laparoscopic low anterior resection(LLAR)has become a mainstream surgical method for the treatment of colorectal cancer,which has shown many advantages in the aspects of surgical trauma and postoperative ***,the effect of surgery on patients'left coronary artery and its vascular reconstruction have not been deeply *** the development of medical imaging technology,3D vascular reconstruction has become an effective means to evaluate the curative effect of *** To investigate the clinical value of preoperative 3D vascular reconstruction in LLAR of rectal cancer with the left colic artery(LCA)*** A retrospective cohort study was performed to analyze the clinical data of 146 patients who underwent LLAR for rectal cancer with LCA preservation from January to December 2023 in our *** patients underwent LLAR of rectal cancer with the LCA preserved,and the intraoperative and postoperative data were *** patients were divided into a reconstruction group(72 patients)and a nonreconstruction group(74 patients)according to whether 3D vascular reconstruction was performed before *** clinical features,operation conditions,complications,pathological results and postoperative recovery of the two groups were collected and *** A total of 146 patients with rectal cancer were included in the study,including 72 patients in the reconstruction group and 74 patients in the nonreconstruction *** were 47 males and 25 females in the reconstruction group,aged(59.75±6.2)years,with a body mass index(BMI)(24.1±2.2)kg/m^(2),and 51 males and 23 females in the nonreconstruction group,aged(58.77±6.1)years,with a BMI(23.6±2.7)kg/m^(2).There was no significant difference in the baseline data between the two groups(P>0.05).In the submesenteric artery reconstruction group,35 patients were type Ⅰ,25 patients were type Ⅱ,11 patients were type Ⅲ,and 1 patient was type Ⅳ.There were 37 type Ⅰ patients,24

Impact of nanografting on the local structure of ternary self-assembled monolayers

Prior studies using single and binary adsorbates indicate that nanografting impacts the reaction pathways and local structure of self-assembled monolayers （SAMs）. This work explores the influence of nanografting in the case of ternary SAMs. Using atomic force microscopy （AFM） as both a nanografting and imaging tool, the local structures of two ternary SAMs, SC14：SSC10CHO：SC2COOH and SC18：SSC10CHO：SC2COOH, formed under natural growth and nanografting were imaged and compared. The results indicate that nanografting impacts the degree of phase segregation and the domain height in ternary SAMs. In addition to the previously known effect of altering self-assembly pathways, this study reveals an additional impact for these ternary systems： By shaving over the previous trajectory （grafted region）, nanografting could start exchange reactions and lateral movement of surface-bound thiols, which leads to new and somewhat unanticipated local structures.

NUMB is an evolutionarily conserved protein that plays an important role in cell adhesion,migration,polarity,and cell fate *** has also been shown to play a role in the pathogenesis of certain cancers,although it remains controversial whether NUMB functions as an oncoprotein or tumor ***,we show that NUMB binds to anaplastic lymphoma kinase(ALK),a receptor tyrosine kinase aberrantly activated in several forms of cancer,and this interaction regulates the endocytosis and activity of ***,the function of the NUMB-ALK interaction is *** both p66-NUMB and p72-NUMB isoforms are capable of mediating the endocytosis of ALK,the former directs ALK to the lysosomal degradation pathway,thus decreasing the overall ALK level and the downstream MAP kinase *** contrast,the p72-NUMB isoform promotes ALK recycling back to the plasma membrane,thereby maintaining the kinase in its active *** work sheds light on the controversial role of different isoforms of NUMB in tumorigenesis and provides mechanistic insight into ALK regulation.

Ultrasound (US) has become one of the most commonly performed imaging modalities in clinical practice. It is a rapidly evolving technology with certain advantages and with unique challenges that include low imaging quality and high variability. From the perspective of image analysis, it is essential to develop advanced automatic US image analysis methods to assist in US diagnosis and/or to make such assessment more objective and accurate. Deep learning has recently emerged as the leading machine learning tool in various research fields, and especially in general imaging analysis and computer vision. Deep learning also shows huge potential for various automatic US image analysis tasks. This review first briefly introduces several popular deep learning architectures, and then summarizes and thoroughly discusses their applications in various specific tasks in US image analysis, such as classification, detection, and segmentation. Finally, the open challenges and potential trends of the future application of deep learning in medical US image analysis are discussed.

In-situ measurement and distribution of flue gas mercury for a utility PC boiler system

The in-situ instrumentation technique for measuring mercury and itsspeciation downstream a utility 100 MW pulverized coal (PC) fired boiler system was developed andconducted by the use of the Ontario hydro method (OHM) consistent with American standard test methodtogether with the semi-continuous emissions monitoring (SCEM) system as well as a mobile laboratoryfor mercury monitoring. The mercury and its speciation concentrations including participate mercuryat three locations of before air preheater, before electrostatic precipitator (ESP) and after ESPwere measured using the OHM and SCEM methods under normal operation conditions of the boiler systemas a result of firing a bituminous coal. The vapor-phase total mercury Hg(VT) concentration declinedwith the decrease of flue gas temperature because of mercury species transformation from oxidizedmercury to particulate mercury as the flue gas moved downstream from the air preheater to the ESPand after the ESP. A good agreement for Hg°, Hg^(2+) and Hg( VT) was obtained between the twomethods in the ash-free area. But in the dense particle-laden flue gas area, there appeared to be abig bias for mercury speciation owing to dust cake formed in the filter of OHM sampling probe. Theparticulateaffinity to the flue gas mercury and the impacts of sampling condition to accuracy ofmeasure were discussed.

Statistical and Probability Quantification of Hydrologic Dynamics in the Lake Tuscaloosa Watershed, Alabama, USA

Interconnected components of water cycle, including surface water, groundwater, and precipitation, can exhibit complex hydrologic dynamics. This study investigates dynamics embedded in surface water, groundwater, and precipitation time series data in the Lake Tuscaloosa watershed located in northern Alabama, using standard statistics and non-stationarity analysis. Standard statistics analysis shows that less water is available in this watershed over time. A significant correlation between different data sets is found, and groundwater is found to be slower evolving than its nearby surface systems. Non-stationarity analysis based on time scale-local Hurst exponents calculated by the multifractal detrended fluctuation approach shows that, on one hand, the stream system exhibits non-stationarity properties similar to precipitation, as expected. On the other hand, groundwater and lake stage non-stationarity is found to be influenced by the seasonal variation in rainfall and the long-term anthropogenic factors. Therefore, sustainability of surface water and aquifer may be affected by natural input and/or anthropogenic activity, both of which can evolve non-stationary in different time scales.
