Magnetic digital microfluidics(MDM)manipulates fluids in the form of droplets on an open substrate,and incorporates surface energy traps(SETs)to facilitate the droplet *** MDM devices are fabricated monolithically,which makes it difficult to modify the device configuration without completely overhauling the original *** this paper,we present a modular MDM architecture that enables rapid on-demand configuration and re-configuration of MDM platforms for customized *** modular component contains a SET and a Lego-like antistud that fits onto a base board with Lego-like *** illustrate the versatility of the modular MDM architecture in biomarker sensing,pathogen identification,antibiotic resistance determination,and biochemical quantification by demonstrating immunoassays,phenotypical assays and enzymatic assays on various modular MDM platforms configured on demand to accomplish the fluidic operations required by assorted bioanalytical *** modular MDM architecture promises great potential for point-of-care diagnostics by offering on-demand customization of testing platforms for various categories of diagnostic *** also provides a new avenue for microfluidic assay development with its high configurability which would significantly reduce the time and cost of the development cycle.

We present in this paper an ab initio method, named KnotFold, for RNA H-type pseudoknot prediction. Our method employs an ensemble of RNA folding tools and a filtering heuristic to generate a set of pseudoknot-free stems, and then predicts pseudoknots by utilizing a search technique with a pseudo-probability scoring scheme. Experimental results show that KnotFold achieves higher sensitivity than existing methods. The KnotFold package with documentation is freely available at http：//***/KnotFold.

Filter socks frequently are used for erosion and sediment perimeter control during oil and gas development activities in the Appalachian Basin of the United *** specify the use of composted wood material for sock *** specification,as opposed to non-composted or fresh wood chips(woods-run),has created inefficiencies during well site *** than use fresh wood chips created during site construction,composted chips must be procured and used as filter sock media for erosion and sedimentation *** woods-run chips could be used as filter sock media instead of composted chips,there could be a significant reduction in energy/capital costs,truck traffic,and disposal *** primary objective of this research project was to compare the effectiveness of woodsrun material versus traditionally composted wood chips in controlling sediment transport as well as other chemical and physical parameters in a laboratory *** significant differences in pH(5.96 versus 6.02) or conductivity(0.029 dS/m versus 0.035 dS/m) were found in sediment laden water filtered through woods-run versus composted chips,***,chip particle sizes were outside the allowable limits for composted sock media,and moisture content also was outside the specified limits for woods-run ***(NO) concentrations were significantly higher in woods-run,while phosphorus(P) and potassium(K) concentrations were greater in composted chips;however none of the N,P,or K concentrations were above the regulatory ***,no difference in the filtering efficiency or time was found between woods-run and composted *** laboratory results indicate that current regulations allowing the use of woods-run chips in all but the highest quality watersheds is justified.

Previously, we demonstrated the virucidal efficacy of low concentration chlorine dioxide (ClO2) gas in room settings. The purpose of these studies was to evaluate novel ClO2 formats as potential biocidal interventions for real world congregate settings and air systems. Three types of studies were conducted to determine the efficacy of ClO2 in reducing bacteria and mold in various workspaces: hard and soft surfaces (gymnasium & equipment), aerosol (in-room), and within a laboratory environment. The study demonstrated that ClO2 was highly effective against both bacteria and mold with reduction ranging from 85.0% - > 99.4% for bacteria and >99.4% for yeast and mold. Treatments on hard and soft surfaces (gymnasiums and sports equipment), reduced bacteria by an average of 90% - 95%. The following treatments were applied overnight: 1) hard surface spraying with dilute ClO2 solutions, 2) carpet and tumbling treatments with powdered ClO2 releasing impregnates, and 3) HVAC treatment and overall room deodorization with low dose ClO2 gas from controlled releasing sachets. The in-room study treating air with a ClO2 filtration media also indicated significant air and surface room efficacy, with an average of 94% reduction in bacteria after 24-hour, and 99.4% reduction in mold after 24-hours. In a related air study, a biological combination of Raoultella terrigena and Staphylococcus aureus was injected as a bio-aerosol into a 4-inch diameter pipe with air flowing at approximately 1200 ft/min. Dry ClO2 gas was introduced into the air flow to achieve an effective concentration of 5 or 10 ppmv. Air samples were collected at sampling ports downstream from the fan at 10, 22, 55 and 100 ft along the pipe and used to evaluate changes in airborne bacteria and mold. 13-Lipoxygenases(LOXs)initiate the synthesis of jasmonic acid(JA),the best-understood oxylipin hormone in herbivory ***,the roles of 9-LOX-derived oxylipins in insect resistance remain ***,we report a novel anti-herbivory mechanism mediated by a tonoplast-localized 9-LOX,ZmLOX5,and its linolenic acid-derived product,9-hydroxy-10-oxo-12(Z),15(Z)-octadecadienoic acid(9,10-KODA).Transposon-insertional disruption of ZmLOX5 resulted in the loss of resistance to insect ***5 knockout mutants displayed greatly reduced wound-induced accumulation of multiple oxylipins and defense metabolites,including benzoxazinoids,abscisic acid(ABA),and JA-isoleucine(JA-Ile).However,exogenous JA-Ile failed to rescue insect defense in lox5 mutants,while applications of 1 mM 9,10-KODA or the JA precursor,12-oxo-phytodienoic acid(12-OPDA),restored wild-type resistance *** profiling revealed that exogenous 9,10-KODA primed the plants for increased production of ABA and 12-OPDA,but not *** none of the 9-oxylipins were able to rescue JA-Ile induction,the lox5 mutant accumulated lower wound-induced levels of Ca^(2+),suggesting this as a potential explanation for lower wound-induced *** pretreated with 9,10-KODA exhibited rapid or more robust woundinduced defense gene *** addition,an artificial diet supplemented with 9,10-KODA arrested fall armyworm larvae ***,analysis of single and double lox5 and lox10 mutants showed that ZmLOX5 also contributed to insect defense by modulating ZmLOX10-mediated green leaf volatile ***,our study uncovered a previously unknown anti-herbivore defense and hormonelike signaling activity for a major 9-oxylipin α-ketol.

Stent graft(SG),isolating the diseased vessels from the normal blood circulation and preventing the rupture of the aneurysm wall in minimally invasive surgery,is normally composed of a metallic stent and a cover with a textile *** this study,the electrospinning method was used to prepare a new type of cover,and the preparing conditions and the performance of the SG were *** polytetrafluoroethylene(PTFE)and polyethylene oxide(PEO)were blended at the ratios of 99:1,98:2,97:3 and electrospun to form precursor *** they were dried in a vacuum and sintered at different temperatures under different time periods to obtain PTFE membrane,which was compounded with a *** morphology,mechanical properties,water permeability and biological properties were *** results showed that when the membrane was sintered at 380℃ for 10 min,it had the best tensile *** integral water permeability of the PTFE electrospun SG was close to *** hemolysis rate of the SG was 2.84%,and human umbillical vein endothelial cells(HUVECs)can adhere and proliferate well on the surface of the PTFE *** PTFE electrospun SG had great potential for clinical application and industrialization.

频域介电谱响应测试技术广泛应用于评估变压器油纸绝缘系统的老化状态。为突出松弛极化过程及缩短测试时间，首次利用桥式电路和Chirp波形电压对现有的频域介电谱测试技术进行了改进。其中桥式电路用来消除几何电容的主导作用同时测量非瞬时极化过程的介电响应。桥电路的应用使虚导纳成为老化指标，即利于理解极化过程，又能简化系统辨识过程。该技术还采用扫频Chirp波形信号作为电压激励源来缩短测量时间，并设计 Chirp 匹配滤波器来提取Chirp信号的频域信息。测量结果表明，经桥电路测量的虚导纳能够作为老化指标来评估油纸绝缘系统老化状况，并且在10？4~1 Hz的频率范围内，测试仅耗时3.3 h，节省至少7 h测试时间。
