A quantitative structure–activity relationship(QSAR) was performed to analyze antimalarial activities against the D10 strains of Plasmodium falciparum of triazole-linked chalcone and dienone hybrid derivatives using partial least squares regression coupled with stepwise forward–backward variable selection method. QSAR analyses were performed on the available Ic50 D10 strains of Plasmodium falciparum data based on theoretical molecular descriptors. The QSAR model developed gave good predictive correlation coefficient(r2) of 0.8994, significant cross validated correlation coefficient(q2) of 0.7689, r2 for external test set)(2predr of 0.8256, coefficient of correlation of predicted data set)(2sepred,r of 0.3276. The model shows that antimalarial activity is greatly affected by donor and electron-withdrawing substituents. The study implicates that chalcone and dienone rings should have strong donor and electron-withdrawing substituents as they increase the activity of chalcone. Results show that the predictive ability of the model is satisfactory, and it can be used for designing similar group of antimalarial compounds. The findings derived from this analysis along with other molecular modeling studies will be helpful in designing of the new potent antimalarial activity of clinical utility.

Development of Palmprint Verification System Using Biometrics

Palmprint verification system using Biometrics is one of the emerging technologies, which recognizes a person based on the principle lines, wrinkles and ridges on the surface of the palm. These line structures are stable and remain unchanged throughout the life of an individual. more importantly, no two palmprints from different individuals are the same, and normally people do not feel uneasy to have their palmprint images taken for testing. Therefore palmprint recognition offers a promising future for medium-security access control systems. In this paper, a new approach for personal authentication using hand images is discussed. Gray-Scale palm images are captured using a digital camera at a resolution of 640×480. Each of these gray-scale images is aligned and then used to extract palmprint and hand geometry features. These features are then used for authenticating users. The image acquisition setup used here is inherently simple and it does not employ any special illumination nor does it use any pegs that might cause any inconvenience to users. Experimental results show that the designed system achieves an acceptable level of performance.

Background:Land use change plays a vital role in global carbon *** land use change impact on soil carbon stock is crucial for implementing land use management to increase carbon stock and reducing carbon ***,the objective of our study was to determine land use change and to assess its effect on soil carbon stock in semi-arid part of Rajasthan,*** temporal satellite data of Pushkar valley region of Rajasthan acquired on 1993,2003,and 2014 were analyzed to assess land use *** trading of land use was depicted *** organic carbon(SOc)stock was calculated for soil to a depth of 30 cm in each land use type in 2014 using field data *** SOc stock for previous years was estimated using stock change *** effect of land use change on SOc stock was determined by calculating change in SOc stock(t/ha)by deducting the base-year SOc stock from the final year stock of a particular land use ***:The total area under agricultural lands was increased by 32.14%while that under forest was decreased by 23.14%during the time period of 1993–*** land use change shows that in both the periods(1993–2003 and 2003–2014),7%of forest area was converted to agricultural land and about 15%changes occurred among agricultural *** 1993–2003,changes among agricultural land led to maximum loss of soil carbon,i.e.,4.88 mt c and during 2003–2014,conversion of forest to agricultural land led to loss in 3.16 mt ***:There was a continuous decrease in forest area and increase in cultivated area in each time *** use change led to alteration in carbon equity in soil due to change or loss in ***,we can conclude that the internal trading of land use area during the 10-year period(1993–2003)led to net loss of SOc stock by 8.29 mt ***,land use change during 11-year period(2003–2014)caused net loss of SOc by 2.76 mt *** should be made to implement proper land

mountain ecosystem, on the earth, has plenty of natural resources. In Him.chal Pradesh all the rivers are snowfed and therefore rich in water resources. These resources have been supporting enough for the generation of electricity through introducing hydropower projects since the last decade However, every developmental activity has its own negative impacts on the surrounding environment. Due to the fragile nature of topography and delicacy of ecology of the Himalaya, it results in lot of disturbances because of high degree of human interferences like construction of major hydropower projects. The increased extent of geological hazards, such as landslides, rock fall and soil erosion, have mainly due to alike developmental interventions in the natural ecosystem. So understanding and analysing such impacts of the hydropower projects have mainly been on the environment in various forms but natural hazards have been frequent ones. The present study, therefore, focuses mainly on the Parbati Stage II （800 mW） and the Parbati Stage III （520 mW） hydropower projects; both of which fall within the Kullu district of Him.chal Pradesh. Based on the perception survey of the local communities, the existing land use pattern, status of total acquired land of the residents by hydropower projects, frequent natural hazards and resultant loss to the local communities due to upcoming construction of hydropower projects surrounding to the Parbati Stage II and III have been analysed in the paper. Also, the preventive measures to mitigate these adverse impacts have been suggested to strengthen these projects in eco-friendly manner in the mountain context.

Boundary conditions are derived to represent the continuity requirements at the boundaries of a porous solid saturated with viscous fluid. They are derived from the physically grounded principles with a mathematical check on the conservation of energy. The poroelastic solid is a dissipative one for the presence of viscosity in the interstitial fluid. The dissipative stresses due to the viscosity of pore-fluid are well represented in the boundary conditions. The unequal particle motions of two constituents of porous aggre~ gate at a boundary between two solids are explained in terms of the drainage of pore-fluid leading to imperfect bonding. A mathematical model is derived for the partial connec- tion of surface pores at the porous-porous interface. At this interface, the loose-contact slipping and partial pore opening/connection may dissipate a part of strain energy. A numerical example shows that, at the interface between water and oil-saturated sandstone, the modified boundary conditions do affect the energies of the waves refracting into the isotropic porous medium.

Earthquake 2001 in Bhuj region of Kachchh district of Gujarat(India) was one of the most devastating earthquakes in the Indian history. This earthquake has caused severe damage to human life and properties. The impact of earthquake on groundwater resources at many locations was significant. Steep rise in static water level due to earthquake was observed at Bhachau and chandarani. At other location groundwater followed the declining trend.
