PERFORMANcE MODELING AND ANALYSIS OF bLOOD FLOW IN ELASTIc ARTERIES

Two different non_Newtonian models for blood flow are considered,first a simple power law model displaying shear thinning viscosity,and second a generalized Maxwell model displaying both shear thinning viscosity and oscillating flow viscous_*** models are used along with a Newtonian model to study sinusoidal flow of blood in rigid and elastic straight arteries in the presence of magnetic *** elasticity of blood does not appear to influence its flow behavior under physiological conditions in the large arteries,purely viscous shear thinning model should be quite realistic for simulating blood flow under these *** using the power law model with high shear rate for sinusoidal flow simulation in elastic arteries,the mean and amplitude of the flow rate were found to be lower for a power law fluid compared to Newtonian fluid for the same pressure *** governing equations have been solved by crank_Niclson *** results are interpreted in the context of blood in the elastic arteries keeping the magnetic effects in *** physiological flow simulation in the aorta,an increase in mean wall shear stress,but a reduction in peak wall shear stress were observed for power law model compared to a Newtonian fluid model for matched flow rate wave *** flow in the presence of transverse magnetic field in an elastic artery is investigated and the influence of factors such as morphology and surface irregularity is evaluated.

cOMPUTATIONAL TEcHNIQUE FOR FLOW IN bLOODVESSELS WITH POROUS EFFEcTS

A finite element solution for the Navier-Stokes equations for steady flow under the porosity effects through a double branched two-dimensional section of a three-dimensional model of a canine aorta was obtained. The numerical solution involves transforming a physical coordinates to a curvilinear boundary fitted coordinate *** steady flow,branch flow and shear stress under the porous effects were discussed in detail. The shear stress at the wall was calculated for Reynolds number of 1 000 with branch to main aortic flow rate ratio as a parameter. The results are compared with earlier works involving experimental data and it has been observed that our results are very close to the exact *** work is in fact an improvement of the work of sharma et al. (2001) in the sense that computational technique is economic and (Reynolds) number is large.

Microstructures of co-axially folded vein segments and crenulation cleavage： Evidence for dissolution phenomena in the chamba Thrust Sheet, western Himalayas

The metasediments in the chamba region experienced three phases of deformation: DF1, DF2 and *** quartz veins are co-folded with the F2 crenulation folds. Their geometric and tectonic significance is studied by microstructures and shortening adjacent to the discrete crenulation cleavage, S2. Microstructures of folded vein segments, their geometric changes and truncation to cleavage (S2) are mainly due to pressure-solution phenomena and the estimated volume loss from reconstructed vein segments range from 16 to 25.5%,which is closely related to volume decrease (26%) calculated from the polydeformed slates of North Wales areas.

The oscillating natural convection in the presence of transverse magnetic field with time depending pressure gradient is studied. The analysis of the problem is carried out by assuming that the fluid is flowing in a parallel plate configuration. The emphasis is on low frequency oscillating convective flows induced by g-jitter associated with micro gravity b.c.use of their importance to the space processing materials. A general solution for an oscillating flow in the presence of transverse magnetic field is carried out. Some special cases of the oscillating flow and its response to an applied magnetic field are performed. It was observed that the behavior of oscillating free convective flows depends on frequency, amplitude of the driving buoyancy forces, temperature gradient,magnetic field and the electric conditions of the channel walls. In the absence of magnetic field, buoyancy force plays a predominant role in driving the oscillatory flow pattern, and velocity magnitude is also affected by temperature gradients. To suppress the oscillating flow external magnetic field can be used. It is also found that the reduction of the velocity is inversely proportional to the square of the applied magnetic field with conducting wall but directly proportional to the inverse of the magnetic field with insulating wall. Detailed calculations and computational results are also carried out to depict the real situation.

Intermediate Energy coulomb Excitation of Neutron-Rich Nuclei

We reinvestigate the collective effects of the retardation as well as the bending on the coulomb excitation cross sections and also on the b（E2） strengths of some neutron-rich isotopes using the intermediate energy coulomb excitation theory. It is found that the b（E2） strengths extracted from the experimental coulomb excitation cross section data get suppressed approximately by 6%. Furthermore, the obtained b（E2） strengths in the energy range 30-100 MeV/A are found to be in better agreement with the corresponding values known from other sources, than those obtained by using the recoil-corrected relativistic coulomb excitation theory.

Improved thermoelectric property of cation-substituted caMnO_3

Single-phase pristine and cation-substituted calcium manganite（ca1-xbixMn1-yVyO3-δ） polycrystalline samples were synthesized by the solid state reaction technique. Their thermoelectric properties were measured by a set up that was designed and assembled in the laboratory. The ca1-x bixMn1-yVyO3-δsample with x = y = 0.04 has shown a power factor（S^2σ） of 176 μW/m/K^2 at 423 K, which is nearly two orders of magnitude higher than that of the pristine sample（2.1 μW/m/K2）. The power factor of the substituted oxide remains almost temperature independent as the Seeb.c. coefficient increases monotonically with temperature, along with the simultaneous decrease in electrical resistivity which is attributed to enhanced electron density due to co-doping of bismuth and vanadium and grain boundary scattering. These cation-substituted calcium manganites can be used as a potential candidate for an n-type leg in a thermoelectric generator（module）.

Development of Palmprint Verification System Using biometrics

Palmprint verification system using biometrics is one of the emerging technologies, which recognizes a person based on the principle lines, wrinkles and ridges on the surface of the palm. These line structures are stable and remain unchanged throughout the life of an individual. More importantly, no two palmprints from different individuals are the same, and normally people do not feel uneasy to have their palmprint images taken for testing. Therefore palmprint recognition offers a promising future for medium-security access control systems. In this paper, a new approach for personal authentication using hand images is discussed. Gray-Scale palm images are captured using a digital camera at a resolution of 640×480. Each of these gray-scale images is aligned and then used to extract palmprint and hand geometry features. These features are then used for authenticating users. The image acquisition setup used here is inherently simple and it does not employ any special illumination nor does it use any pegs that might cause any inconvenience to users. Experimental results show that the designed system achieves an acceptable level of performance.

Tribology of Wc reinforced Sic ceramics: Influence of counterbody

Hot pressed silicon carbide(Sic) composites prepared with 0, 10, 30 or 50 wt% tungsten carbide(Wc) are subjected to dry sliding wear against Wc-co and steel ball. In particular an attempt has been made to answer the following important questions:(i) How does the load(from 5 to 20 N) effect sliding wear behaviour of Sic-ceramics against Wc-co and steel counterbodies?(ii) Is there any effect of Wc content on friction and wear characteristics of Sic ceramics?(iii) Does the dominant material removal mechanism of Sic ceramics change with the addition of Wc or counterbody?(iv) What is the influence of mechanical properties on the sliding wear? Experimental results indicated that coefficient of friction(cOF) for the Sic ceramics varied between 0.66 and 0.33 with change in load and counterbodies. Wear volume for Sic ceramics found approximately 6-10 times more against Wc-co as compared against steel. Wear volume changes from 2.0 × 10^(–3)mm^3 to 1.2 × 10^(–2)mm^3 with change in counterbodies for Sic -(10, 30 or 50 wt%) Wc composite at 20 N. Sic ceramics indicated abrasion and composites reveal trib.c.emical wear as major material removal mechanisms. Wear is influenced by the hardness of counterbody and fracture toughness of Sic -Wc composites.
