Acid-based purification process of multi-walled carbon nanotubes （MWNTs） produced via catalytic decomposition of methane with NiO/TiO2 as a catalyst is described. By combining the oxidation in air and the acid refluxes, the impurities, such as amorphous carbon, carbon nanoparticles, and the NiO/TiO2 catalyst, are eliminated. Scanning electron microscopy （SEM） and transmission electron microscopy （TEM） images confirm the removal of the impurities. The percentage of the carbon nanotubes purity was analyzed using thermal gravimetric analysis （TGA）. Using this process, 99.9 wt% purity of MWNTs was obtained.

As the world’s populations increase and age, there is a parallel increase in the number of medical procedures addressed to bone related injuries. It is estimated that approximately 1 million of orthopaedic implant surgeries in association with total joint replacements are needed every year. This number is expected to double between 1999 and 2025 as a result of increasing numbers of musculoskeletal injuries (i.e., due to routine activities such as work, sport, etc.) and musculoskeletal diseases (i.e., such as osteoporosis, arthritis and bursitis due to increase age). Consequently, the increase demand for better quality of life has necessarily led people to opt for high quality orthopaedic devices for early recovery and speedy resumption of their routine activities. Unfortunately in the present time, it has been found that the current used orthopaedic implants have the tendencies to fail after long period of usage, due to the corrosion issue of implant in the human body. Therefore, this paper provides a simple overview about the corrosion issue of stainless steel (SS) 316L as implants in human body. Electrophoretic deposition (EPD) of hydroxypaptite (HA) bioceramic was proposed as the approach to minimize the corrosion phenomena. Additionally, the corrosion testing of HA coated SS 316L in comparison to pristine SS 316L was also performed and discussed.

Urban researchers have maintained a constant interest in the complexity and continuity of urban space *** have applied actor-network theory(ANT)to investigate the heterogeneity of spaces and present them through the networks of their users'***,these accounts are predominantly limited in examining the extent to which these spaces may be heterogeneous when exploring such *** paper draws on recent ANT scholarship,which employs an ethnographic research conducted in a main park in a housing project at Dahiyat Al hussein in Amman,*** findings describe the complex and unpredictable negotiations that occur with in spaces by documenting the varieties and in terrelations among user activity networks within this common and shared urban *** research reveals the extent to which spaces,parks in this case,may be heterogeneous by unpacking their *** conclusions and in sights assert then ecessity of paying attention to design detail and creating designs that are responsive to evolving user activities.

Antioxidant activity of water-soluble polysaccharide extracted from Eucalyptus cultivated in Lebanon

Objective: To extract and identify the chemical composition of the polysaccharide isolated from the Eucalyptus cultivated in Lebanon and to evaluate its antioxidant ***: The water-soluble polysaccharide was isolated from Eucalyptus leaves, and its structure was identified by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, proton nuclear magnetic resonance, and carbon-13 nuclear magnetic resonance. The antioxidant activity of the active ingredient was screened for its radical scavenging ability using 2,2-diphenyl-1-picryl-hydrazyl radical(DPPH) ***: The results of the DPPH test have shown that fucoidan, the polysaccharide isolated from Eucalyptus, exhibited almost the same antioxidant activity against DPPH$as the ascorbic acid did at 100 mg/***: This natural molecule extracted from a medicinal plant has a promising antioxidant activity and could be used in pharmaceutical and medical applications.

Two Iranian Rice Cultivars’ Response to Nitrogen and Nano-Fertilizer

This experiment was carried out as split factorial in randomized complete blocks design with three replications in Sari, Iran during 2013 and 2014. Rice cultivars were chosen as the main factor including Tarom Mahalli and Tarom Hashemi. Nitrogen rates (34 and 69 kg N ha−1 and nitroxin) with nano-particle (nano-potassium, nano-silicon and control) selected as the subfactor. The results indicated that the amount of total tiller per hill and fertile tiller per hill for Tarom Hashemi was more than Tarom Mahalli in both years. The highest paddy yield in both years was observed for Tarom Hashemi, the main reason behind it is increasing panicle length and fertile tiller number for this cultivar. For Tarom Hashemi, the highest paddy yield (5000 kg⋅ha−1) was produced with 34 kg N ha−1 and nano potassium application. For Tarom Mahalli, the highest paddy yield 4657 kg⋅ha−1 was obtained with nitroxin and nano potassium consumption. The highest harvest index was achieved with nitroxin and nano-silicon consumption. Therefore, nano particle consumption in both cultivars resulted in improved yield.

Simple Nutritional and Inflammatory Markers Associated with Bed Sores in Elderly Stroke People

Background: Bed sores are major burden to hospital care and usually associated with worse prognosis and longer hospital stay. Aims: To evaluate whether simple biochemical inflammatory and nutritional markers would differ between those with bedsores and those without in elderly stroke patients and if there is a distinction between recent bed sore stroke patients and old bed sore stroke patients as regard these biomarkers. Methods: 80 Stroke elderly patients were enrolled and divided into four groups: patients with recent stroke who developed bedsores, patients with recent stroke who did not develop bedsores, patients with old stroke who developed bedsores and patients with old stroke who did not develop bedsores. Nutritional markers (albumin, total protein, magnesium, iron, total iron binding capacity (TIBC), hemoglobin and cholesterol) and inflammatory markers (total leucocyte count, neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio and ferritin) were compared between the four groups. Results: Concerning nutritional markers, albumin (P =< 0.001), Alb/Pr ratio (P =< 0.001), TIBC (P =< 0.001) and cholesterol (P = 0.005) are lower in the acute stroke with bed sore patients versus acute stroke without bed sore. Lower albumin (P =< 0.001) is only found in comparison between chronic stroke with bed sore patients and chronic without bed sore patients. There is a difference between acute stroke with bed sore and chronic stroke with bed sore concerning albumin (P =< 0.001), TIBC (P =< 0.001) and TG (p =< 0.001). Albumin is lower while TG and TIBC are higher in those with acute stroke with bed sores. Regarding inflammatory markers, high neutrophil and ferritin (p =< 0.001) were found in acute stroke with bed sore patients versus acute stroke without bed sore. No difference was found between chronic stroke with bed sore patients and chronic stroke without bed sore patients. Acute stroke with bed sore group has higher TLC, neutrophil, neut/lymph ratio and ferritin (p =< 0.001) than chronic stroke

AIM:To share the results of a national screening program for amblyopia in school children in the north of ***:This is a prospective national screening study for *** program rolls first and second-grade children(6 to 7 years old) in the north of *** eye examination included:best-corrected visual acuity,cover-uncover test,and cycloplegic *** visual acuity was tested using an ETDRS visual acuity chart without ***,children were tested with full cycloplegic refraction when the test criteria were *** amblyopia was defined as a best-corrected visual acuity difference of 2 or more *** comparison,bilateral amblyopia was defined as a best-corrected visual acuity of 20/40 or worse in the best ***:The prevalence of amblyopia for the total sample tested(n=17 203) was 2.78%(n=479).The most common cause of amblyopia was hypermetropia(64.45%),followed by previous ocular surgeries(15.1%),myopia(10.43%),strabismus(9.39%),and congenital cataract(0.63%).CONCLUSION:This is the first and only study,identifing modifiable risk factors in Jordanian children with *** their first couple of years of elementary education,many Jordanian children are affected by amblyopia and pass unnoticed.A more governmental effort is needed into screening programs to improve vision in the Jordanian population.
