Vertical diversity of sediment bacterial communities in two different trophic states of the eutrophic Lake Taihu, China

Vertical diversity of sediment bacterial communities in 2 different trophic states （macrophyte-dominated and algae-dominated） of the large shallow eutrophic Lake Taihu, China, were investigated using denaturing gradient gel electropfioresis （DGGE） and 16S rRNA sequence analysis. Clustering analysis of DGGE profiles showed that different clusters were recognized in different depths of sediment cores in the 2 lake trophic states. Analyses of the bacterial diversity, as estimated by the Shannon index （H＇）, showed that different sediment layers of the macrophyte-dominated state had higher diversity than the algae-dominated state. In addition, bacterial diversity of the sediment in the macrophyte-dominated state changed abruptly throughout the layers, but bacterial diversity of the algae-dominated state decreased gradually with sediment depth. Phylogenetic analysis showed that Proteobacteria was the most abundant phylum in the middle sediment of the 2 lake trophic states. In the macrophyte-dominated state, clone sequences related to Betaproteobacteria （50.0%） were the most abundant, followed by Epsilonproteobacteria （21.1%）, Acidobacteria （7.9%）, Deltaproteobacteria （7.9%）, Chloroflexi （7.9%）, and Bacteroidetes （5.3%）; whereas in the algae-dominated state, sequences affiliated with Betaproteobacteria （84.4%） were predominant, followed by Deltaproteobacteria （12.5%） and Acidobacteria （3.1%）. Canonical correspondence analysis showed that organic matter and pH play key roles in driving the vertical changes of bacterial community composition.

Multi-parametric Sensitivity Analysis of Improved Transformer Thermal Models Considering Nonlinear Effect of Oil Time Constant

This paper aims to develop an approach to investigating the effect of a particular parameter on the output accuracy of transformer thermal models,*** analysis,which can not only reveal the most sensitive parameter of a thermal model but also improve model output *** the first time,the nonlinear time constant(NTC)of transformer oil is proposed to reshape three practical top-oil temperature models based on an expression of nonlinear thermal conductance:the modified IEEE clause 7 model,Swift’s model,and Susa’s ***,the multi-parametric sensitivity analysis(MPSA)is undertaken to reveal the effect of each parameter on the model output *** onsite data validation,the results show that the accuracy performance of the proposed NTC thermal models are improved significantly by considering the nonlinear effect of oil time ***,the derived sensitivity performances can clearly reveal the most dominant parameter of the model,so as to simplify the model parameter identification process by reducing the number of insensitive ***,the heat-run test data is used as a reference to validate parameters optimized through a genetic algorithm(GA),which demonstrates that the proposed NTC IEEE model has not only one sensitive parameter but also superior accuracy performance.

Insights from untargeted metabolomics: revealing potential marker compounds into the maturation of fermented chili

Chili fermentation is one of the most important processes in the production of Pixian Douban (PXDB)， which determines the flavor and product quality of PXDB. However， the maturity of fermented chili mainly depends on empirical judgment， which can not satisfy the need for standardized production of PXDB. Therefore， this study aimed to investigate volatile and non-volatile substances during the maturation process and to find markers related to the maturity of fermented chili. GC×GC-MS combined with multivariate statistical analysis revealed that 2-methoxy-3-isobutyl pyrazine， linalool， 3-(methylthio)propionaldehyde， myrcene， and decanal (ROAV ≥ 1， VIP > 1， P < 0.05) were regarded as potentially active aromatic markers for differentiating fermentation time. Additionally， UPLC-QTOF-MS combined with multivariate statistical analysis resulted that 14 compounds can serve as differentiated non-volatile compounds. The correlation of maturity-related physico-chemical indicators with volatile and non-volatile compounds revealed that three volatile compounds (2-methoxy-3-isobutylpyrazine， linalool， and decanal) along with fructose and adenosine could serve as markers for evaluating the maturity of chili. This study is expected to establish a standard for the determination of maturity the fermented chili and lay the foundation for intelligent production of PXDB.

Experimental Study of Local Scour Around Four Piles Under Different Attack Angles and Gap Ratios

In an effort to investigate and quantify the patterns of local scour,researchers embarked on an in-depth study using a systematic experimental *** research focused on the effects of local scour around a set of four piles,each subjected to different hydromechanical *** particular,this study aimed to determine how different attack angles—the angles at which the water flow impinges on the piles,and gap ratios—the ratios of the spacing between the piles to their diameters,influence the extent and nature of scour.A comprehensive series of 35 carefully designed experiments were orchestrated,each designed to dissect the nuances in how the gap ratio and attack angle might contribute to changes in the local scour observed at the base of pile *** these experimental trials,a wealth of local scour data were collected to support the *** data included precise topographic profiles of the sediment bed around the pile groups,as well as detailed scour time histories showing the evolution of scour at strategic feature points throughout the test *** analysis of the experimental data provided interesting *** study revealed that the interplay between the gap ratio and the attack angle had a pronounced influence on the scouring dynamics of the pile *** of the key observations was that the initial phases of scour,particularly within the first hour of water flow exposure,were characterized by a sharp increase in the scour depth occurring immediately in front of the *** this initial rapid development,the scour depth transitioned to a more gradual change *** contrast,the scour topography around the piles continuously *** suggests that sediment displacement and the associated sculpting of the seabed around pile foundations are sustained and progressive processes,altering the underwater landscape over *** results of this empirical investigation have significant implications for the design and constructio

Pyrite Geochemistry and S-Hg Isotopes Reveal the Ore Genesis of the Hydrothermal Vein-type Cuiluan Ag-Pb-Zn Deposit in NE China

The Xing'an-Mongolian orogenic belt is an important Ag-Pb-Zn metallogenic province in China. The study on the genesis of the newly discovered Cuiluan hydrothermal vein-type Ag-Pb-Zn deposit located in the Lesser Xing'an Range， within the eastern of Xing'an-Mongolian orogenic belt， is pivotal in understanding the metallogenic mechanism and regularity of Ag-Pb-Zn deposits in this region. This study utilizes pyrite trace elements and sulfur isotopic geochemistry， and mercury isotope of rocks and ores to constrain the genesis of the Cuiluan deposit. Pyrite geochemical data show that Ag exists in the form of galena inclusions (Ag++(Bi3+， Sb3+) ? Pb2+) in the polymetallic sulfide stage， and independent Ag-bearing minerals （matildite and gustavite） precipitate during the main mineralization stage. The small varied δ34S values （3.24‰ - 4.94‰） of pyrites from four hydrothermal stages are within the range of magmatic S isotopes， indicating that the ore-forming fluid of the Cuiluan deposit mainly originated from the magma. The Δ199Hg values of the ores are close to 0‰， which are consistent with the Δ199Hg values of mantle， further indicating that the ore-forming materials came from the lithospheric mantle. Combined with the regional tectonic evolution， we conclude that the plate subduction of Paleo-oceans in NE China triggered the partial melting of metasomatized mantle. The mantle-derived magma rose along the deep fractures and evolved ore-forming fluids， and finally caused the formation of Cuiluan quartz vein-type Ag-Pb-Zn deposit in the shallow crust. Accompany with previous documents， we infer that the fractures in the large-scale “Granite Sea” in the Lesser Xing'an Range may have significant potential for vein-type Ag-Pb-Zn exploration.

Influences of different crossing types on dynamic response of underground cavern subjected to ground shock

An intersecting cavern is a common structural form used in underground engineering,and its safety and stability performance directly control the service performance of the whole *** dynamic responses of the three kinds of crossing type(+-shaped,T-shaped,L-shaped)caverns subjected to ground shock were studied by numerical *** velocity plus force mode boundary setting method was proposed in the coupled static and dynamic analysis of a deep underground *** results show that,among the three types of crossing caverns,the+-shaped cavern is the most significantly affected by the dynamic action,followed by T-shaped,and then L-shaped *** vault settlement,straight wall deformation,vault peak particle velocity,effective plastic strain of surrounding rock,and maximum principal stress and strain at the bottom of the lining of the straight wall increase with the increase of cavern *** vault settlement,straight wall deformation,effective plastic strain of surrounding rock,and the maximum principal stress and strain at the bottom of lining to the straight wall decrease with the increase of lateral pressure coefficient,and the peak particle velocity at the vault *** variation is small compared with the change of cavern *** influence range of the underground cavern intersection is two cavern diameters from the intersection *** bottom of the straight wall at the intersection is the weak *** is suggested to thicken the support locally to improve the stability of the cavern.

Calibration of the Solar X-ray Detector on-board the Macao Science Satellite-1B for Soft X-ray Detection

The Solar X-ray Detector(SXD) on-board the Macao Science Satellite-1B(MSS-1B) was successfully launched via the Chinese Long March-2C rocket on 21 May 2023, and commenced operations in early June of the same year. The MSS-1B/Soft X-ray Detection Units(SXDUs) employ two silicon drift detectors(SDDs), providing a wide range of energy spectra spanning from 0.7 to 24 keV. Notably, the SXDUs deliver a high-resolution capability of 0.14 keV@5.9 keV and operate with a time cadence of 1 second. Here, we perform thorough calibrations of the MSS-1B/SXDUs, employing a combination of ground experiments and simulations. In addition, quantitative analysis comparing the flux measurements obtained by the MSS-1B/SXDUs to the data collected by the Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite(GOES), provides compelling evidence of their consistency. Furthermore, the preliminary spectral analysis results showcase the robustness and expected performance of the MSS-1B/SXDUs, unlocking their potential for facilitating the study of dynamic evolution of solar flares. Moreover, the innovative MSS-1B/Solar X-ray Detector facilitates concurrent observations of solar soft and hard X-rays, thereby making valuable contributions to the advancements in solar research.

Effect of high-or low-speed fluctuations on the small-scale bursting events in an active control experiment

Active control of a fully developed turbulence boundary layer(TBL) over a flat plate has been investigated with a statistical view. The piezoelectric(PZT) oscillator is employed to produce periodic input into the inner region of the TBL.A wall probe is fixed upstream of the oscillator to identify the high-or low-speed fluctuations as the detecting ***, the impact of the detecting signals on the small-scale bursting process is investigated based on the data acquired by the traversing probe downstream of the oscillator. The results indicate that the small-scale bursting intensity is restrained more apparently at high-speed detecting fluctuations but less impacted at low-speed detecting fluctuations. Furthermore, the perturbed-scale fluctuations arrange the small-scale bursting process in the near-wall region. The detecting signals have an obvious impact on this arrangement, especially the high-intensity regions of the small-scale bursting events: the vibration enhances the intensity at high-speed detecting signals but weakens it at low-speed detecting signals in these regions, which gives a direct evidence on how detecting signals interfering the small-scale bursting process.

Evaluation of the zonal wind stress response to SST in the CMIP5 AMIP simulations

Zonal wind stress plays an important role in the evolution of El Ni（n）o-Southern Oscillation （ENSO） events;however,a comprehensive comparison and analysis in terms of model performance and related bias in the interannual variability of zonal wind stress across the tropical Pacific has yet to be *** this study,the authors evaluate how well the individual atmospheric models participating in phase 5 of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project simulate zonal wind *** is found that the wind stress anomalies simulated by the multi-model ensemble are weaker than those in the observation in both El Ni（n）o and La Ni（n）a events,with a larger bias in the *** analysis indicates that the bias associated with El Ni（n）o events may be mainly attributable to the weaker negative precipitation anomalies in the AMIP simulations,compared with observations,over the eastern Indian *** the Gill-like responses in atmospheric circulation,the rainfall bias over the eastern Indian Ocean results in an easterly wind stress anomaly in the western and central equatorial Pacific,which to some extent offsets the westerly wind stress anomalies associated with El Ni（n）o ***,the responses of zonal wind stress anomalies to warm SST anomalies are much underestimated in AMIP simulations during El Niffo events.

QSAR Studies on PCDD/Fs by Kernel PLS

QSPR models of PCDD/Fs were generated by means of kernel partial least squares. The molecular distance-edge vector method was used as descriptors to get model I for predicting PCDD/Fs retention behavior. The chlorinated positions were also used and model II was obtained. In studied cases, the predictive ability of the KPLS model is comparable or superior to those of PLS and ANN. The results indicate that KPLS can be used as an alternative powerful modeling tool for QSPR studies.
