Swelling and erosion assisted sustained release of tea polyphenol from antibacterial ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene for joint replacement

The considerable hazard posed by periprosthetic joint infections underlines the urgent need for the rapid advancement of in-situ drug delivery systems within joint materials. However, the pursuit of sustained antibacterial efficacy remains a formidable challenge. In this context, we proposed a novel strategy that leverages swelling and erosion mechanisms to facilitate drug release of drug-loaded ultrahigh molecular weight polyethylene(UHMWPE), thereby ensuring its long-lasting antibacterial *** oxide(PEO), a hydrophilic polymer with fast hydrating ability and high swelling capacity, was incorporated in UHMWPE alongside the antibacterial tea polyphenol(epigallocatechin gallate,EGCG as representative). The swelling of PEO enhanced water infiltration into the matrix, while the erosion of PEO balanced the release of the encapsulated EGCG, resulting in a steady release. The behavior was supported by the EGCG release profiles and the corresponding fitted release kinetic *** demonstrated by segmented antibacterial assessments, the antibacterial efficiency was enhanced 2to 3 times in the PEO/EGCG/UHMWPE composite compared to that of EGCG/UHMWPE. Additionally, the PEO/EGCG/UHMWPE composite exhibited favorable biocompatibility and mechanical performance, making it a potential candidate for the development of drug-releasing joint implants to combat prosthetic bacterial infections.

Dark energy effects on surface gravitational redshift and Keplerian frequency of neutron stars

Research on the properties of neutron stars with dark energy is a particularly interesting yet unresolved problem in *** analyze the influence of dark energy on the equation of state,the maximum mass,the surface gravitational redshift and the Keplerian frequency for the traditional neutron star and the hyperon star matter within the relativistic mean field theory,using the GM1 and TM1 parameter sets by considering the two flavor symmetries of SU(6)and SU(3)combined with the observations of PSR J1614-2230,PSR J0348+0432,PSR J0030+0451,RX J0720.4-3125,and 1E *** is found that the existence of dark energy leads to the softened equations of the state of the traditional neutron star and the hyperon *** radius of a fixed-mass traditional neutron star(or hyperon star)with dark energy becomes smaller,which leads to increased *** existence of dark energy can also enhance the surface gravitational redshift and the Keplerian frequency of traditional neutron stars and hyperon *** growth of the Keplerian frequency may cause the spin rate to speed up,which may provide a possible way to understand and explain the pulsar glitch ***,we infer that the mass and the surface gravitational redshift of PSR J1748-2446ad without dark energy for the GM1(TM1)parameter set are 1.141 M_(☉)(1.309 M_(☉))and 0.095(0.105),*** corresponding values for the GM1(TM1)parameter set are 0.901 M_(☉)(1.072M_(☉))and 0.079(0.091)if PSR J1748-2446ad contains dark energy withα=*** J1748-2446ad may be a low-mass pulsar with a lower surface gravitational redshift under our selected models.

Effects of Paclobutrazol Seed Soaking on Non-Structural Carbohydrate and Grain Enrichment in Direct-Seeded Rice

The yield of direct-seeded rice(DSR)was constrained by inadequate grain *** studies have indicated that paclobutrazol application plays a significant role in enhancing crop agronomic traits and increasing *** study aimed to examine the effects of paclobutrazol seed soaking(PSS)on non-structural carbohydrate accumulation and grain enrichment in DSR,potentially providing a theoretical foundation for achieving high-yield DSR *** experiment utilized two rice varieties,Jiyujing(JYJ)and Jijing305(JJ305),with seeds soaked in paclobutrazol concentrations of 0 mg L−1 and 100 mg L−*** demonstrated increased chlorophyll content,net photosynthetic rate,and leaf area,as well as an extended photosynthetic function period during the filling *** also elevated soluble sugar and starch contents in the flag leaf(during the filling stage)and stem sheath(after heading),decreased starch content in the top panicle while increasing it in the middle and lower panicle during the filling stage,and enhanced spikelet per unit area and seed setting rate,thereby improving DSR *** conclusion,PSS enhanced the photosynthetic capacity of DSR during the filling stage,coordinated the filling process of superior and inferior grains,maintained source-sink balance,and facilitated stable and orderly filling,ultimately resulting in improved yield.

Thermodynamic modeling is still themostwidely usedmethod to characterize aerosol acidity,a critical physicochemical property of atmospheric ***,it remains unclear whether gas-aerosol partitioning should be incorporated when thermodynamicmodels are employed to estimate the acidity of coarse *** this work,field measurements were conducted at a coastal city in northern China across three seasons,and covered wide ranges of temperature,relative humidity and NH_(3) *** examined the performance of different modes of ISORROPIA-II(a widely used aerosol thermodynamic model)in estimating aerosol acidity of coarse and fine *** M0 mode,which incorporates gas-phase data and runs the model in the forward mode,provided reasonable estimation of aerosol acidity for coarse and fine *** to M0,the M1 mode,which runs the model in the forward mode but does not include gas-phase data,may capture the general trend of aerosol acidity but underestimates pH for both coarse and fine particles;M2,which runs the model in the reverse mode,results in large errors in estimated aerosol pH for both coarse and fine particles and should not be used for aerosol acidity ***,M1 significantly underestimates liquid water contents for both fine and coarse particles,while M2 provides reliable estimation of liquid water *** summary,our work highlights the importance of incorporating gas-aerosol partitioning when estimating coarse particle acidity,and thus may help improve our understanding of acidity of coarse particles.

Reversible phase transition poly(benzyl methacrylate)/ionic liquid electrolytes for effective overheating protection in lithium batteries

Battery safety is influenced by various factors,with thermal runaway being one of the most significant *** most studies have concentrated on developing one-time,self-activating mechanism for thermal protection,such as temperature-responsive electrodes,and thermal-shutdown separators,these methods only provide irreversible ***,reversible temperature-sensitive electrolytes have emerged as promising alternatives,offering both thermo-reversibility and self-protective ***,further research is crucial to fully understand these thermal-shutdown *** this study,we propose lower critical solution temperature(LCST) phase behavior poly(benzyl methacrylate)/imidazolium-based ionic liquid mixtures to prepare temperature-sensitive electrolytes that provide reversible thermal shutdown protection of *** electrolyte features an appropriate protection temperature(～105℃) and responds quickly within a 1 min at 105℃,causing cells to hardly discharge as the voltage suddenly drops to 3.38 V,and providing efficient thermal shutdown protection within 30 *** cooling back to room temperature,the battery regains its original ***,the electrolyte exhibits excellent cycling stability with the capacity retention of the battery is 91.6% after 500 *** work provides a viable solution for preventing batteries from thermal runaway triggered by overheating.

Honglian type-cytoplasmic male sterility(HL-CMS)is caused by the inter-communication between the nucleus and ***,the mechanisms by which sterility genes regulate metabolic alterations and changes in mitochondrial morphology in the pollen of HL-CMS remain *** this study,we compared the morphological differences between the pollen of the male sterile line YA and the near-isogenic line NIL-Rf6 using hematoxylin-eosin staining and 4ʹ,6-diamidino-2-phenylindole(DAPI)***-CMS is characterized by gametophytic sterility,where the aborted pollen grains are empty,and the tapetal layer remains *** electron microscopy was employed to observe mitochondrial morphological changes at the microspore stage,revealing significant mitochondrial alterations,characterized by the formation of'large spherical mitochondria',occurred at the binucleate stage in the YA ***,metabolomics analysis revealed decreased levels of metabolites associated with the carbohydrate and flavonoid ***,the decrease in flavonoids was found to contribute to an elevation in reactive oxygen species(ROS)***,we propose a model in which rice fertility is modulated by the levels of pollen carbohydrates and flavonoid metabolites,with impaired mitochondrial energy production and reduced flavonoid biosynthesis as the main causes of ROS accumulation and pollen abortion in rice.

Model and Data Hybrid Driven Approach for Quantifying the Meteorology-Dependent Demand Flexibility of Building Thermal Loads

Recently, the heat and electricity integrated energy system (HE-IES) has become a hot topic in both industry and academia. In the HE- IES, the potential flexibility of the buildings' thermal loads can be exploited to relax the heat power balance constraints and consequently allow a more flexible operation of the combined heat and power units. In this paper, model-driven and data-driven techniques are combined to quantify the demand flexibility of the buildings' thermal loads in a non-instructive way. First, the explicit analytical equivalent thermal parameter (ETP) model of the aggregated buildings is developed. The heat transfer coefficient (k) and thermal inertia coefficient (C) of the ETP model are designated to measure the potential demand flexibility. Second, the Particle Swarm Optimization optimized Radial Basis function neural network (PSO-RBF) is used to identify the relationship between the values of k and C and the meteorological factors. To obtain the training data, an innovative two-stage regression method based on the adaptive temporal resolution is proposed to extract k and C values from the historical thermal load data. Finally, a flexible thermal load model is built based on the predictions of the meteorological factors, which can be conveniently incorporated into the online dispatch of the HE-IES. A comprehensive simulation environment is designed to verify the accuracy and availability of the proposed technique.

Graphene oxide wrapped-silica microspheres humidity sensor with fast response/recovery,high sensitivity,and selectivity for pig respiratory rate monitoring

Respiratory rate monitoring is of great significance in pig healthy breeding for the early detection and timely prevention of respiratory *** sensing is an important noncontact method to monitor pig respiration,which does not cause direct harm to pigs and meets the requirements of animal *** paper proposes a humidity sensor based on graphene oxide wrapped-silica microspheres(GO@SiO_(2)).First,the sensor shows fast response/recovery performances of 0.24/0.73 *** demonstrate that the wrapped microsphere structure can inhibit water *** is speculated that the wrapped microsphere structure can inhibit the stacking of GO,and its curved surface can promote the evaporation of water ***,the sensor shows a high sensitivity of 1.2%/%RH-4.2%/%RH in 11%-95%RH *** can be attributed to different sensing mechanisms,from hopping transport to increasing ion transport,leading to a significant change in the sensor’s ***,the sensor shows selectivity to water molecules due to the hydrophilic characteristic of GO and the significant increase in conductivity by ion ***,the sensor is applied to realize the respiratory rate monitoring of adult pigs and piglets.

随着元宇宙图书馆发展,知识不断迭代、转化和重构,多模态知识被纳入知识服务过程。为避免知识冗余、信息不完备、信息价值缺失等知识发展弊端出现,文章梳理元宇宙图书馆和多模态知识流通发展现状,总结图书馆内数据流通问题,归纳元宇宙知识流通范式建设原则,从知识关联、知识组织到知识服务三个角度构建元宇宙视域下图书馆多模态知识流通范式(AOS),试图改善元宇宙环境下知识服务运行机制,为元宇宙图书馆各实践模型提供底层知识流动范式,为数字技术赋能以图书馆为代表的知识情报领域工作提供借鉴。
