To the editor:It is commonly reported that people with insomnia often experience comorbid emotional disorders,such as mood and anxiety disorders.12 A study found that fragmented rapid eye movement(REM)sleep in individuals with insomnia is associated with higher Beck Depression Inventory(BDI)scores.3 REM sleep architecture disruption is a typical symptom of insomnia.

Fmoc or Boc mono-substituted cyclo（L-Lys-L-Lys）s were synthesized via the reaction of lysine cyclic dipeptide with Fmoc N-hydroxysuccinimide este（Fmoc-OSu） and di-tert-butyl dicarbonate[（Boc）20], respectively. The resulted mono-substituted cyclo（L-Lys-L-Lys）s（2-4） by means of test tube inversion method served as organogelators enabled to form stable thermo-reversible organogels in alcoholic, substituted benzene and chlorinated solvents, with the minimum gelation concentration（MGC） in a range of 1%-4%（mass fraction）. The transmission electron microscopy（TEM） and scanning electron microscopy（SEM） observations reveal that these gelators self-assembled into 3D nanofiber, nanoribbon or nanotube network structures. The rheological measurement exhibited that the sto- rage modulus of gels is higher than the loss one, and the complex viscosity is reduced linearly with the increasing of scanning frequency. The fluorescence spectrum of compound 2 in 1,2-dichloroethane and benzene demonstrates that the emission peak of Fmoc at 320 nm has red-shifted and the intensity decreases gradually, while the intensity of the emission peak at 460 nm substantially enhances as a function of concentration, indicating the existence of π-π stacking interactions and the formation of J-type aggregates. Meanwhile, compound 4 self-assembled into nanotubes via the stacking of multiple bilayer membranes. Fmoc and Boc disubstituted cyclo（L-Lys-L-Lys）（3） holds the relatively lower MGC values, showing the stronger gelation ability in most selected organic solvents due to the presence of both Fmoc and Boc groups.

Cellulose and its derivatives are natural materials with high carbon contents, but it is challenging to convert their carbon into high value-added carbonaceous materials(e.g., graphene). Here, an approach to convert the carbon in cellulose into N, P co-doped porous graphene(LIG) materials via laser induction is proposed. Cellulose nanofibrils(CNFs), a cellulose derivative with high dispersion uniformity and abundant surface hydroxyl groups, were easily formed on a bulk substrate(thickness ≥5 mm) containing ammonium polyphosphate(APP). Then, a 10.6 μm CO2 laser was used to scribe for 1–5 passes on the CNFs/APP substrate under an ambient environment to produce N, P co-doped porous LIG. Upon increasing the number of laser scribing passes, the IG/IDof LIG first increased and then decreased, reaching a maximum of 1.68 at 4 passes. The good pore structure and low resistance also showed that 4 laser passes were ideal. Besides, the N, P co-doped LIG also showed excellent electrochemical performance, with a specific capacitance of 221.4 FF·g^(-1) and capacitance retention of 89.9%. This method exploits the advantages of nanocellulose and overcomes the difficulties associated with directly compounding cellulosic materials, providing a method for the further development of biomass nanomaterials.

A cerium-iron oxide solar control coating on glass was prepared by citric acid sol-gel method, dip-coating techniques and proper heat treatment process. Results show that the cerium-iron glass coating is composed of nanocrystalline CeO2, Fe2O3, and nano holes. The cerium-iron glass coating has high transmittance in visible light, low UV and near IR transmittance. The wavelength of absorption edge for most glass coating has an obvious redshift to about 375 nm. There exist a wide absorption band at the range of 800-1600 nm and high transmittance at the wavelength from 400 nm to 800 nm, and the solar energy and visible transmittances are 50% and 65%, respectively. It ascribes to the high content of trivalence cerium and bivalence iron ions in the cerium/iron coating. It is indicated that this kind of glass coating has very good UV-sheering and heat-insulating property, can be used as an effective solar control glass in automobile and architecture.

With the rapid development of portable electronics, new energy vehicles, and smart grids, ion batteries are becoming one of the most widely used energy storage devices, while the safety concern of ion batteries has always been an urgent problem to be solved. To develop a safety-guaranteed battery, the characterization of the internal structure is indispensable, where electron microscopy plays a crucial role. Based on this, this paper summarizes the application of transmission electron microscopy(TEM) in battery safety, further concludes and analyzes the aspects of dendrite growth and solid electrolyte interface(SEI) formation that affect the safety of ion batteries, and emphasizes the importance of electron microscopy in battery safety research and the potential of these techniques to promote the future development of this field. These advanced electron microscopy techniques and their prospects are also discussed.

The original vector discrete ordinate radiative transfer(VDISORT)model takes into account Stokes radiance vector but derives its solution assuming azimuthal symmetric surface reflective matrix and atmospheric scattering phase matrix,such as the phase matrix derived from spherical particles or randomly oriented non-spherical particles.In this study,a new VDISORT is developed for general atmospheric scattering and boundary conditions.Stokes vector is decomposed into both sinusoidal and cosinusoidal harmonic modes,and the radiance at arbitrary viewing geometry is solved directly by adding two zero-weighted points in the Gaussian quadrature scheme.The complex eigenvalues in homogeneous solutions are also taken into full consideration.The accuracy of VDISORT model is comprehensively validated by four cases:Rayleigh scattering case,the spherical particle scattering case with the Legendre expansion coefficients of 0th-13th orders of the phase matrix(hereinafter L13),L13 with a polarized source,and the randomoriented oblate particle scattering case with the Legendre expansion coefficients of 0th-11th orders of the phase matrix(hereinafter L11).In all cases,the simulated radiances agree well with the benchmarks,with absolute biases less than 0.0065,0.0006,and 0.0008 for Rayleigh,unpolarized L13,and L11,respectively.Since a polarized bidirectional reflection distribution function(pBRDF)matrix is used as the lower boundary condition,VDISORT is now able to handle fully coupled atmospheric and surface polarimetric radiative transfer processes.

In applications such as marine rescue,marine science,archaeology,and offshore industries,autonomous underwater vehicles(AUVs)are frequently used for survey missions and monitoring tasks,with most operations being performed by manned submersibles or remotely operated vehicles(ROVs)equipped with robotic arms,as they can be operated remotely for days without problems.However,they require expensive marine vessels and specialist pilots to operate them.Scientists exploring oceans are no longer satisfied with the use of manned submersibles and ROVs.There is a growing desire for seabed exploration to be performed using smarter,more flexible,and automated equipment.By improving the field operation and intervention capability of AUVs,large-scale and long-range seafloor exploration and sampling can be performed without the support of a mother ship,making it a more effective,economical,convenient,and rapid means of seafloor exploration and sampling operations,and playing a critical role in marine resource exploration.In this study,we explored the integration technology of underwater electric robotic arms and AUVs and designed a new set of electric manipulators suitable for water depths greater than 500 m.The reliability of the key components was analyzed by finite element analysis and,based on the theory of robot kinematics and dynamics,simulations were performed to verify the reliability of the key components.Experiments were conducted on land and underwater,trajectory tracking experiments were completed,and the experimental data in air and water were compared and analyzed.Finally,the objectives for further research on the autonomous control of the manipulator underwater were proposed.

Biological water striders have advantages such as flexible movement,low disturbance to the water surface,and low noise.Researchers have developed a large number of biomimetic water strider robots based on their movement mechanism,which have broad application prospects in water quality testing,water surface reconnaissance,and search.This article mainly reviews the research progress of biomimetic water strider robots.First,the biological and kinematic characteristics of water striders are outlined,and some mechanical parameters of biological water striders are summarized.The basic equations of water strider movement are then described.Next,an overview is given of the past and current work on skating and jumping movements of biomimetic water strider robots based on surface tension and water pressure dominance.Based on the current research status of biomimetic water strider robots,the shortcomings of current research on biomimetic water striders are summarized,and the future development of biomimetic water strider robots is discussed.This article provides new insights for the design of biomimetic water strider robots.

A series of symmetrical peptidomimetics(3–8) based on cysteine-modified cyclo(L-Lys-L-Lys)s were synthesized, and their gelation capability in organic solvents was dominated by fluorenylmethyloxycarbonyl(Fmoc) and triphenylmethyl(Trt) protecting groups and the exchange of thiol-to-disulfide as well. The peptidomimetics holding Trt(3 and 4) showed no gel performance, while the Fmoc groups promoted 5 and 6 to give rise to thermo-reversible organogels in a number of organic solvents. The self-assembled fibrillar networks were distinctly evidenced in the organogels by transmission electron microscopy(TEM) and scanning electron microscopy(SEM) observations. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR) and fluorescence analyses revealed that the hydrogen bonding and ?-? stacking play as major driving forces for the self-assembly of these organogelators. A ?-turn secondary structure was deduced for the organogel of 6 by virtue of X-ray diffraction, FT-IR and circular dichroism(CD) measurements, and an interdigitated bilayer structure was also presented.
