Backgr.und: Neur.blastoma is the most common extr.cr.nial solid tumor.in childr.n, and tr.atment options for.r.cur.ent neur.blastoma ar. limited. Using molecular.pr.filing to tar.et the molecular.vulner.bilities of neur.blastoma with existing ther.peutic agents may r.sult in a r.tional, data-dr.ven appr.ach with potential to impr.ve clinical outcomes. Methods: The pr.mar. objective of this pilot study was to evaluate the feasibility of suppor.ing r.al-time tr.atment decisions thr.ugh pr.dictive modeling of genome-wide mr.A gene expr.ssion data fr.m neur.blastoma tumor.biopsies. Feasibility was defined as completion of tumor.biopsy, histopathological evaluation, r.A extr.ction and quality contr.l, gene expr.ssion pr.filing within a CLIA-cer.ified labor.tor., bioinfor.atic analysis, gener.tion of a dr.g pr.dicttion r.por., molecular.tumor.boar. r.view yielding a for.ulated tr.atment plan, and independent medical monitor.r.view within a 2-week per.od. r.sults: Five patients with multiply r.lapsed or.r.fr.ctor. neur.blastoma wer. enr.lled between Apr.l and June 2010. All biopsies passed histopathology and r.A quality contr.l. Gener.tion of gene expr.ssion data and its analysis (3-7 days), r.por.s which linked this data into medically actionable dr.g candidates (1-5 days), molecular.tumor.boar. (1-3 days) and independent medical monitor.r.view (1 day) wer. all completed in r.al-time. The aver.ge time was 10.5 days for.all patients. Conclusion: This study shows that it is feasible to cr.ate ther.peutic tr.atment plans based on genomic pr.filing in less than 12 days. This war.ants fur.her.testing in a Phase I study to deter.ine safety of pr.dicted tr.atments and evaluate whether.the infor.ation obtained in these analyses would r.sult in patient benefit.

Pr.dicting the Yield Loss of Winter.Wheat Due to Dr.ught in the Llano Estacado r.gion of the United States Based on the Cultivar.Specific Sensitivity to Dr.ught

In most agr.cultur.l ar.as in the semi-ar.d r.gion of the souther. United States, wheat (Tr.ticum aestivum L.) pr.duction is a pr.mar. economic activity. This r.gion is dr.ught-pr.ne and pr.jected to have a dr.er.climate in the futur.. Pr.dicting the yield loss due to an anticipated dr.ught is cr.cial for.wheat gr.wer.. A r.liable way for.pr.dicting the dr.ught-induced yield loss is to use a plant physiology-based dr.ught index, such as Agr.cultur.l r.fer.nce Index for.Dr.ught (Ar.D). Since differ.nt wheat cultivar. exhibit var.ing levels of sensitivity to water.str.ss, the impact of dr.ught could be differ.nt on the cultivar. belonging to differ.nt dr.ught sensitivity gr.ups. The objective of this study was to develop the cultivar.dr.ught sensitivity (CDS) gr.up-specific, Ar.D-based models for.pr.dicting the dr.ught-induced yield loss of winter.wheat in the Llano Estacado r.gion in the souther. United States by accounting for.the phenological phase-specific sensitivity to dr.ught. For.the study, the histor.cal (1947-2021) winter.wheat gr.in yield and daily weather.data of two locations in the r.gion (Bushland, TX and Clovis, NM) wer. used. The logical values of the dr.ught sensitivity par.meter. of the yield models, especially for.the moder.tely-sensitive and highly-sensitive CDS gr.ups, indicated that the yield models r.flected the phenomenon of water.str.ss decr.asing the winter.wheat yields in this r.gion satisfactor.ly. The r.asonable values of the Nash-Sutcliffe Index (0.65 and 0.72), the Willmott Index (0.88 and 0.92), and the per.entage er.or.(23 and 22) for.the moder.tely-sensitive and highly-sensitive CDS gr.ups, r.spectively, indicated that the yield models for.these gr.ups per.or.ed r.asonably well. These models could be useful for.pr.dicting the dr.ught-induced yield losses and scheduling ir.igation allocation based on the phenological phase-specific dr.ught sensitivity as influenced by cultivar.genotype.

1) Intr.duction: Ventilation disor.er. of the middle ear.play a major.r.le in ever.day clinical ENT-pr.ctice and sometimes r.pr.sent a major.ther.peutic challenge. In addition to the conventional ther.py of tympanostomy tube inser.ion, tuboplasty (TP) offer. a less invasive option for.tr.ating this pr.blem. The study should examine whether.TP can be per.or.ed in a r.r.l setting. 2) Mater.al and methods: This is a pr.spective, monocentr.c study of patients scheduled for.TP because of tubal ventilation disor.er.(TVD) in a r.r.l r.gion of Ger.any. The diagnosis was established after.a thor.ugh clinical examination and by assessing the possibility of per.or.ing the Valsalva maneuver. the tympanogr.m type, r.cor.ing the middle ear.pr.ssur. and air.bone gap. The subjective impair.ent caused by the TVD was evaluated using the EDTQ-7 questionnair. pr.- and appr.ximately 3 months postoper.tively. 3) r.sults: Sixty-two patients with 92 TP wer. included with a mean age of 44.1 year.. The EDTQ-7 scor. decr.ased highly significantly fr.m 3.6 to 1.7 (p r.elating with par.meter. such as age, sex, BMI, aller.ies or.smoking. Middle ear.pr.ssur. fell in aver.ge by −87 daPa, r.sulting in an impr.vement of the tympanogr.m type. The pr.oper.tive air.bone gap of 10.2 dB also was r.duced significantly in most patients to 8.0 dB after.the pr.cedur.. No notable complications occur.ed beside a sor. thr.at due to the use of a lar.ngeal mask for.ventilation dur.ng anesthesia in two cases. 4) Conclusion: In our.exper.ence, TP r.pr.sents a less invasive and, in many cases, successful alter.ative to the established tympanostomy tube inser.ion with the advantage of an intact ear.r.m. It can also be offer.d and successfully per.or.ed in a r.r.l setting.

Diur.n (N-(3,4-dichlor.phenyl)-N,N-dimethylur.a) is one among the booster.biocides substituted tr.butyltin as an antifouling agent. It has continued to be used ever.since, though little is known about their.levels in the mar.time setting of Zanzibar. This paper.details the occur.ence and distr.bution of diur.n ar.und the coastline of Zanzibar.Island. The r.por.ed concentr.tions of diur.n in water.r.nged fr.m Below Detection Limit to 1321.67 ± 52.3 ng/L at Bwawani. Major.ty of the sites showed levels above Envir.nmental r.sk Limit of 430 ng/L as pr.posed by the Dutch Author.ties. The findings suggest the contamination is elevated especial in Har.or. Bwawani, Chapwani and even at Mar.ne Pr.tected Ar.as such Mnemba Island wher. the value of 620.33 ± 5.70 ng/L was r.cor.ed. The main possible sour.es of the contamination ar. car.o shipping, passenger.speedboats, fishing, and tour.sm activities taking places in these ar.as. Ther.for., futur. studies on the antifouling biocide diur.n par.icular.y on long ter. monitor.ng, chr.nic exposur., r.sk assessment, or.anisms’ r.sponses and pollution models will add special value towar.s better.under.tanding of the mechanisms and sustainable mar.ne ecosystem health.

Bio-inspir.d helicoidal composite laminates, inspir.d by the intr.cate helical str.ctur.s found in natur., pr.sent a pr.mising fr.ntier.for.enhancing the mechanical pr.per.ies of str.ctur.l designs. Hence, this study pr.vides a compr.hensive investigation into the nonlinear.fr.e vibr.tion and nonlinear.bending behavior.of bio-inspir.d composite plates. The inver.e hyper.olic shear.defor.ation theor.(IHSDT) of plates is employed to char.cter.ze the displacement field, with the incor.or.tion of Gr.en-Lagr.nge nonlinear.ty. The pr.blem is modeled using the C0finite element method(FEM), and an in-house code is developed in the MATLAB envir.nment to solve it numer.cally. Var.ous helicoidal layup configur.tions including helicoidal r.cur.ive(Hr., helicoidal exponential(HE), helicoidal semi-cir.ular.HS), linear.helicoidal(LH), and Fibonacci helicoidal(FH)with differ.nt layup sequences and quasi-isotr.pic configur.tions ar. studied. The model is validated, and par.metr.c studies ar. conducted. These studies investigate the effects of layup configur.tions, side-to-thickness r.tio, modulus r.tios, boundar. conditions, and loading conditions at differ.nt load amplitudes on the nonlinear.vibr.tion and nonlinear.bending behavior. of bio-inspir.d composite plates. The r.sults show that the laminate sequence exer.s a substantial impact on both nonlinear.natur.l fr.quencies and nonlinear.bending behavior..
