Bound states in the continuum （BIcs） are perfectly localized resonances despite embedding in the continuum ***,an isolated BIc is very sensitive to the structure ***,we report merging acoustic BIcs in a single open resonator,robust against the structure *** find that both symmetry-protected BIc and friedrich-Wintgen BIc are sustained in a single coupled waveguide-resonator *** varying the height and length of the resonator,these two BIcs move toward each other and merge into a single one at a critical *** to an individual BIc,the merged BIc is robust against fabrication error because its Q-factor is proportional to ΔL-4,whereΔL embodies the structure *** essence of this extraordinary phenomenon is perfectly explained by the two-and three-level approximations of the effective nonHermitian ***,we present direct experimental demonstrations of the moving and merging of BIcs in a coupled 3D waveguide-resonator,which are evidenced by the vanishing of the linewidth of fano resonance in the transmission *** results may find exciting applications in designing high-quality acoustic sources,sensors and filters.

Organic solar cells(OScs) hold great potential as a photovoltaic technology for practical ***, the traditional experimental trial-and-error method for designing and engineering OScs can be complex, expensive, and time-consuming. Machine learning(ML) techniques enable the proficient extraction of information from datasets, allowing the development of realistic models that are capable of predicting the efficacy of materials with commendable accuracy. The PM6 donor has great potential for high-performance OScs. However, it is crucial for the rational design of a ternary blend to accurately forecast the power conversion efficiency(PcE) of ternary OScs(TOScs) based on a PM6 ***, we collected the device parameters of PM6-based TOScs and evaluated the feature importance of their molecule descriptors to develop predictive models. In this study, we used five different ML algorithms for analysis and prediction. for the analysis, the classification and regression tree provided different rules, heuristics, and patterns from the heterogeneous dataset. The random forest algorithm outperforms other prediction ML algorithms in predicting the output performance of PM6-based TOScs. finally, we validated the ML outcomes by fabricating PM6-based TOScs. Our study presents a rapid strategy for assessing a high PcE while elucidating the substantial influence of diverse descriptors.

AIM:To determine the incidence of brain metastasis in a contemporary group of patients with carcinoma of the ***:Retrospective analysis of 53 patients with esophageal carcinoma who received radiotherapy as a component of treatment between 1998 and 2007,including patient and tumor characteristics,and subsequent diagnosis of brain *** association between the histological type of esophageal cancer and the incidence of brain metastasis was assessed using fisher's exact ***:forty-four of the fifty-three patients in this study had adenocarcinoma and nine had squamous cell carcinoma,ranging from stage ⅡA-Ⅳ*** treatment was surgery with neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (trimodality therapy) in 19% of patients;chemoradiotherapy in 42%;and surgery and adjuvant radiotherapy in 7%.Twenty-five percent of patients inthis study received palliative *** overall incidence of brain metastasis in this cohort was 13%.Adenocarcinoma was the primary tumor histology in all of the patients who developed brain metastasis,representing an incidence of 16% in this *** patients with squamous cell carcinoma received trimodality *** association between histology and brain metastasis was not statistically ***:The incidence of brain metastasis in this contemporary cohort of patients with esophageal carcinoma is higher than previously reported and was confined to those with adenocarcinoma.

A pot experiment was conducted to investigate cadmium(cd) uptake by different rice cultivars that produce white or dark grains. four cultivars with white grains(hereafter, white rice) and five cultivars with dark colors (hereafter dark rice) were selected for this experiment. Three levels of soil cd concentrations, background(0), 5 and 10 mg/kg, were used. After harvest, plant biomass, tissue concentrations of cd, ca, fe, cu and Zn were analyzed. The results showed that cd concentrations are significantly different between different genotypes, but when comparing the cd concentrations for the two groups, no significant difference was found. for other divalent cations, ca concentrations in dark rice were higher than those in white ones(Pfor shoots, P=0.037 for roots); fe concentrations in dark rice were also higher than those in white ones(P=0.001 either in shoot or root); Zn concentrations in shoot of dark rice were higher than those in white ones, but no significant difference in roots. The total molar concentrations of divalent cations in dark rice were also significantly higher than in white rice. The potential benefit of higher ca and fe concentrations in dark rice and similar cd concentrations in both groups is also discussed in this paper.

cholangiocarcinoma is a rare cancer originating from the neoplastic transformation of the epithelial cells (i.e. cholangiocytes) that line the biliary tract. The prognosis for patients with cholangiocarcinoma is grim due to lack of viable treatment options. The increase in world-wide incidence and mortality from cholangiocarcinoma highlights the importance of understanding the intracellular mechanisms that trigger the neoplastic transformation of cholangiocytes and the growth of biliary cancers. The purpose of the following review is to address what has been learned over the past decade concerning the molecular basis of cholangiocarcinogenesis. The material presented is divided into two sections:(1) mechanisms regulating neoplastic transformation of cholangiocytes; and (2) factors regulating cholangiocarcinoma growth. An understanding of the growth regulatory mechanisms of cholangiocarcinoma will lead to the identification of therapeutic targets for this devastating cancer.

A glasshouse pot experiment was conducted to investigate effects of the arbuscular mycorrhizal fungus Glomus mosseae on the growth of Vicia faba and toxicity induced by heavy metals （HMs）（cu, Zn, Pb and cd） in a field soil contaminated by a mixture of these metals. There was also uninoculation treatment （NM） simultaneously. Mycorrhizal （GM） plants have significantly increased growth and tolerance to toxicity induced by heavy metals compared with NM plants. P uptake was significantly increased in GM plants. Mycorrhizal symbiosis reduced the transportation of HMs fi＇om root to shoot by immobilizing HMs in the mycorrhizal, shown by increasing the ratios of HMs from root to shoot. Oxidative stress, which can induce DNA damage, is an important mechanism of heavy metal toxicity. GM treatment decreased oxidative stress by intricating antioxidative systems such as peroxidases and non-enzymic systems including soluble protein. The DNA damage induced by heavy metals was detected using comet assay, which showed DNA damage in the plants was decreased by the GM treatment.

Sensory drive predicts that the conditions under which signaling takes place have large effects on signals, sensory systems, and behavior. The coupling of an ecological genetics approach with sen sory drive has been fruitful. An ecological genetics approach compares populations that experi ence different environments and asks whether population differences are adaptive and are the result of genetic and/or environmental variation. The multifaceted effects of signaling environ ments are wellexemplified by the bluefin killifish. In this system, males with blue anal fins are abundant in tanninstained swamps that lack UV/blue light but are absent in clear springs where UV/blue light is abundant. Past work indicates that lighting environments shape genetic and envir onmental variation in color patterns, visual systems, and behavior. Less is known about the select ive forces creating the across population correlations between UV/blue light and the abundance of blue males. Here, we present three new experiments that investigate the roles of lighting environ ments on male competition, female mate choice, and predation. We found strong effects of lighting environments on male competition where blue males were more likely to emerge as dominant in teastained water than in clear water. Our preliminary study on predation indicated that blue males may be less susceptible to predation in teastained water than in clear water. However, there was little evidence for female preferences favoring blue males. The resulting pattern is one where the effects of lighting environments on genetic variation and phenotypic plasticity match the direction of selection and favor the expression of blue males in swamps.

A general thermodynamic variational approach is applied to study the force on an edge dislocation, which drives the dislocation to climb. Our attention is focused on the physical mechanism responsible for dislocation climb. A dislocation in a material element climbs as a result of vacancies diffusing into or out from the dislocation core, with the dislocation acting as a source or a sink for vacancy diffusion in the material element. The basic governing equations for dislocation climb and the climb forces on the dislocation are obtained naturally as a result of the present thermodynamic variational approach.

High Strain Rate Superplasticity in a Micro-grained Al-Mg-Sc Alloy with Predominant High Angle Grain Boundaries

friction stir processing （fSP） was applied to extruded AI-Mg-Sc alloy to produce fine-grained microstructure with a grain size of 2.2μm. Electron backscatter diffraction （EBSD） result showed that the grain boundary misorientation distribution was very close to a random grain assembly for randomly oriented cubes. Super- plastic investigations in the temperature range of 425-500 ℃ and strain rate range of 1x100^-2-1x10 s^-1 showed that a maximum elongation of 1500% was achieved at 475 ℃ and a high strain rate of 1x100^-2-1x10 s^-1. The fSP AI-Mg-Sc exhibited enhanced superplastic deformation kinetics compared to that predicted by the constitutive relationship for superplasticity in fine-grained aluminum alloys. The origin for enhanced superplas- tic deformation kinetics in the fSP alloy can be attributed to its high fraction of high angle grain boundaries （HAGBs）. The analyses of the superplastic data and scanning electron microscopy （SEM） examinations on the surfaces of deformed specimens indicated that grain boundary sliding is the main superplastic deformation mechanism for the fSP AI-Mg-Sc alloy.
