Enteromorpha prolifera polysaccharide-Fe(Ⅲ) complex promotes intestinal development as a new iron supplement

Iron is a crucial micronutrient, and its deficiency can have detrimental effects on the health of infants. Dietary polysaccharide-iron(Ⅲ) complexes(PICs) are promising for addressing iron deficiency due to their minimal adverse reactions and high iron absorption rate. This study aimed to investigate the effects of dietary Enteromorpha prolifera polysaccharide-Fe(Ⅲ) complex(EP-Fe) on newborns, using 3-day weaned piglets as the iron-deficiency model. Results showed that EP-Fe improved iron levels and promoted intestinal development in piglets. Transcriptome sequencing revealed that EP-Fe increased the survival of intestinal epithelial cells under hypoxia by upregulating the expression of genes that promote the development of the vascular system. Additionally, EP-Fe enhanced the mucosal barrier functions by inhibiting myosin light chain kinase(MLCK)/phosphorylated myosin light chain(p-MLC) signaling pathway to increase the expression of intestinal tight junction proteins. Furthermore, the 16S r RNA gene sequencing of gut microbiota showed that EP-Fe promoted the enrichment of Bacteroides_fragilis and other gut microbes that can metabolize carbohydrates. In conclusion, EP-Fe is an effective iron supplement for newborns, and it can be developed as a comprehensive nutritional supplement.

In recent years, biopharmaceuticals have witnessed remarkable advancements, transforming the landscape of therapeutic interventions. Biopharmaceuticals encompassing therapeutics generated through cutting-edge biotechnological methods have shown promising therapeutic outcomes. However, their clinical success hinges significantly on overcoming drug delivery challenges related to stability, intracellular delivery, immunogenicity, and pharmacokinetic properties. Herein, we provide an overview of various marketed macromolecules, including nucleic acids, and immunotherapeutic agents such as cytokines and monoclonal antibodies, as well as other therapeutic peptides/proteins like enzymes, hormones, and coagulation factors. Our primary focus is on elucidating the delivery challenges associated with these macromolecules and highlighting the pivotal role played by drug delivery platforms in the development of currently marketed products, offering valuable insights for both scientific research and the pharmaceutical industry.

Improving performance of perovskite solar cells enabled by defects passivation and carrier transport dynamics regulation via organic additive

Defects at the grain boundaries(GBs) of perovskite film highly restrict both the efficiency and stability of perovskite solar cells(PSCs). Herein, organic small molecules of butanedioic acid(BA) and acetylenedicarboxylic acid(AA), containing two carbonyl(C=O) groups and different core-units, were incorporated into perovskite as additives for PSCs application. Thanks to the strong coordination interaction between C=O group and under-coordinated Pb2+, the additives can effectively passivate film defects and regulate the perovskite crystallization, yielding high-quality perovskite films with lower defect densities. More importantly, the additives can efficiently regulate the charge transport behaviors in PSCs. Benefiting from the defects passivation and the regulation of charge carrier dynamics, the BA and AA-treaded PSCs show the power conversion efficiencies of 21.52% and 20.50%, which are higher than that of the control device(19.41%). Besides, the optimal devices exhibit a remarkable enhanced long-term stability and moisture tolerance compared to the pristine devices. Furthermore, the transient absorption spectrum reveals the mechanism of enhanced photovoltaic performances, attributing to the improvement of charge transport capability at the perovskite/Spiro-OMeTAD interfaces. This work affords a promising strategy to improve the efficiency and stability of PSCs through regulating the charge-carrier dynamic process in perovskite film.

Construction of the porcine genome mobile element variations and investigation of its role in population diversity and gene expression

Background Mobile element variants(MEVs)have a significant and complex impact on genomic diversity and phe-notypic ***,the quantity,distribution,and relationship with gene expression and complex traits of MEVs in the pig genome remain poorly *** We constructed the most comprehensive porcine MEV library based on high-depth whole genome sequencing(WGS)data from 747 pigs across 59 breeds *** database identified a total of 147,993 poly-morphic MEVs,including 121,099 short interspersed nuclear elements(SINEs),26,053 long interspersed nuclear elements(LINEs),802 long terminal repeats(LTRs),and 39 other transposons,among which 54%are newly *** found that MEVs are unevenly distributed across the genome and are strongly influenced by negative selec-tion ***,we identified 514,530,and 584 candidate MEVs associated with population differentiation,domestication,and breed formation,*** example,a significantly differentiated MEV is located in the ATRX intron between Asian and European pigs,whereas ATRX is also differentially expressed between Asian and European pigs in muscle *** addition,we identified 4,169 expressed MEVs(eMEVs)significantly associated with gene expression and 6,914 splicing MEVs(sMEVs)associated with gene splicing based on RNA-seq data from 266 porcine liver *** eMEVs and sMEVs explain 6.24%and 9.47%,respectively,of the observed cis-heritability and high-light the important role of MEVs in the regulation of gene ***,we provide a high-quality SNP–MEV reference haplotype panel to impute MEV genotypes from genome-wide ***,we identified a candidate MEV significantly associated with total teat number,demonstrating the functionality of this reference *** The present investigation demonstrated the importance of MEVs in pigs in terms of population diversity,gene expression and phenotypic traits,which may provide useful resources and theoretic

Effectiveness of mobile health interventions on management of patients with hypertension:a systematic review of systematic reviews

Objective:To systematically evaluate the effectiveness of mobile health(mHealth)interventions on self-management and blood pressure(BP)control in patients with hypertension and to provide recommendations for the clinic and future ***:Databases including Embase,Cochrane Library,CINAHL,CNKI,SinoMed,Wanfang,and Weipu were searched to collect systematic reviews(SRs)and meta-analyses on mHealth interventions for hypertension *** researchers independently screened the articles and extracted data,and the Assessment of Multiple Systematic Reviews(AMSTAR 2)was used to evaluate the methodological quality of the included ***:A total of 11 SRs were included:1 review was rated as high quality,3 as low quality,and 7 as critically low *** mobile phone was the most common intervention type,followed by the *** reviews performed meta-analyses and showed that mHealth was associated with a significant reduction in systolic blood pressure(SBP),from 2.28 mmHg(95%CI-3.90 to-0.66;I^(2)=40%)to 14.77 mmHg(95%CI 11.76-17.77;I^(2)=89.7%),and diastolic blood pressure(DBP),from 1.50 mmHg(95%CI-2.20 to-0.08;I^(2)=62%)to 8.17 mmHg(95%CI 5.67-10.67;I^(2)=86%).Self-management behaviors included medication adherence(MA),diet,smoking,alcohol drinking,physical activity,and BP *** were inconsistent results on the effectiveness of mHealth ***:mHealth interventions can improve BP control,MA,diet,and smoking in patients with hypertension,but the evidence for the efficacy of mHealth on physical activity and alcohol drinking improvement is *** methodological quality of existing SRs on the management of BP in patients with hypertension was relatively low,and more well-designed SRs or meta-analyses were needed to provide more *** interventions are useful for improving BP control of patients with hypertension.

Significant reduction of anisotropy in stress relaxation aging and mechanical properties improvement for 2195 Al-Cu-Li alloy subjected to plastic loading

Although the plastic loading can enhance creep deformation and yield strength,the anisotropic Stress Relaxation Aging(SRA)behavior and mechanism under plastic loading remain unclear,which presents a significant challenge in accurately shaping aluminum alloy *** this study,the SRA behavior of 2195-T4 Al-Cu-Li alloys were thoroughly studied under initial loading stresses within the elastic(210/250 MPa)and plastic(380/420 MPa)ranges at 180℃by stress relaxation and tensile tests as well as microstructure *** findings reveal that compared with those under elastic loadings,in-plane anisotropy(IPA)values of the stress relaxation amount,yield strength and fracture elongation under plastic loadings are reduced by 60%–80%,70%–90% and 72%–89%,***,IPA values of precipitate size in grains and PrecipitationFree Zones(PFZ)width at grain boundaries under plastic loading decrease by 31.4%and 94.4%*** results indicate plastic loading significantly weakens the anisotropic SRA behavior,owing to numerous uniformly distributed fine T1phases and small IPA values of both T1precipitates size and PFZ width in various loading *** with those of elastic loadingaged alloys,yield strength of plastic loading-aged alloys shows high strength-ductility because of the combined effect of closely dispersed fine T1precipitates,narrowed PFZ and numerous sheared and rotated T1phases at different locations during tensile *** uniformly distributed larger Kernel Average Misorientation(KAM)and Schmidt factor values of the plastic loading-aged alloy,as well as the cross-slip generated,also help to enhance the strength and ductility of the alloy.

A functional cathode sodium compensation agent for stable sodium-ion batteries

Hard carbon(HC)is widely used in sodium-ion batteries(SIBs),but its performance has always been limited by lowinitial Coulombic efficiency(ICE)and cycling *** compensation agent is a favorable strategy to make up for the loss of active sodium ions consumed *** it lacks agent that effectively decomposes to increase the active sodium ions as well as regulate carbon defects for decreasing the irreversible sodium ions ***,we propose 1,2-dihydroxybenzene Na salt(NaDB)as a cathode compensation agent with high specific capacity(347.9 mAh g^(-1)),lower desodiation potential(2.4–2.8 V)and high utilization(99%).Meanwhile,its byproduct could functionalize HC with more C=O groups and promote its reversible ***,the presodiation hard carbon(pHC)anode exhibits highly reversible capacity of 204.7 mAh g^(-1) with 98%retention at 5 C rate over 1000 ***,with 5 wt%NaDB initially coated on the Na3V2(PO4)3(NVP)cathode,the capacity retention of NVP + NaDB|HC cell could increase from 22%to 89%after 1000 cycles at 1 C *** work provides a new avenue to improve reversible capacity and cycling performance of SIBs through designing functional cathode compensation agent.

Ammonia pyrolysis oxidation excited by nanosecond pulsed discharge:Global/fluid models hybrid solution
